Part 22- The Bitter Truth!

Geet turns to face Maan knowing he will not let her escape this time. She gathers the courage to look into his eyes that have turned red with anger. The minute she looks into those powerful irate eyes, his grip on her hands tightens. She gasps in pain. Maan remains unaffected.

"ready geet?common now tell me, har baar tumhe ho kya jata hai?"

"sir, mere haath chodiye. Mujhe dard ho raha hai."

"geet, jab tak tum mujse baat nahi karoge tab tak nahi chodunga." Geet's eyes are filled with tears. Maan instantly releases his grip a little.

"geet aansuo ko rokho."

"haan sir, main jaanti hoon. Aapko aansu se nafrat hai. Aap kehte hai na aansu dimaag ke sehad ke liye aache nahi hai.lekin kya karu main jab bhi bheeti baton ke bare mein sochti hoon tuo mujhe taqleef hoti hai. Isiliye yeh aansu. Lekin aapko lagta hai ki main hamesha rohti rehti hoon."

"geet, ek waqt tha jab tumhari rone se mujhe koi farak nahi padta. Leking ab tum jab rohte ho, tuo tumse zyaada mujhe taqleef hoti hai. tumhari aansu se pareshaani hoti hai. Tumhe yeh baat samaj mein kabhi nahi aayegi."

He pulled her even close to kiss her tears away. He realizes what he was doing and pushes her away from him. She had a tendency to make him lose his control. Geet does not understand what was happening to him. He wipes her tears and tells her to relax. He opens the car door for her and she sits down with her legs crossed in the seat facing him while he stands outside near the door. She leans her head onto the head rest for sometime and gazes at the sky. She could remember everything that happened- her first meeting with Dev, her marriage, and her first night with him , her pregnancy news-everything played in front of her eyes and she could not stop those tears. Maan notices her crying again and kneels by the door close to her.

"geet" he said softly holding her hand and pressing it on her lap. Geet looks at him blankly. The news that dev had deceived her and that she is pregnant keep ringing in her ears. Unable to control her feelings anymore, she elicits her pain-"Maan, main pregnant hoon."

Maan looks at her with utter disbelief. Geet still continues to look at the sky. Maan looks at her to see if she is in her senses. How can this be possible? As far as he knew her, she was not married and she did not have anyone in her life. The fellow whom maan had mistook to be her boyfriend was indeed her friend's husband. His world came shattering down for a moment. His eyes turned even red, not out of anger but due to agony. He did not have the nerve to question her further. It would damage him further. He had not anticipated this- not even in his worst possible dreams. She belonged to someone else? This very thought burned his heart. But, he did not let go her hand. He held it even firmly. He waited patiently for her to speak. He had to know the entire truth. He had to know what led her to say something as heart-breaking as that.

Geet holds his hand with her other hand and looks at it. She clears her voice, "maan, mujhse ek ghalti ho gayi. Maine ek aise insaan se shaadi ki jo mujhe pyar nahi karta tha. Mere zameen aur paiso ke liye shaadi kiya tha."

He still did not speak. So, she was married, he concluded. He did not want to disturb her train of thoughts or rather he did not want her to realize what he was going through after realizing the bitter truth that the only woman that ever touched his heart, that ever made him feel so special and different was indeed not his. He would not be her first love and that pain was not easy for him to bear. He had withstood a lot of pain and suffering in his life but nothing was in par with this.

He looked into her eyes. He had never realized that the twinkle in these beautiful eyes was hiding a very painful story. She smiled despite all this pain and she made him smile too. His thoughts were disturbed when geet spoke again.

"us din jab mujhe us insaan ne airport mein cho kar chala gaya tha, mujhe kuch samaj mein nahi aaya. Lekin baad mein pata chala ki who kabhi wapas nahi aayega. Meri shaadi mere ghar ke bhuzurgo ne tey kiye the. Unhe laga ki ladka NRI hai, aur meri zindagi set ho jayegi. Lekin unhe bhi nahi pata tha ki us insaan ke meeti muskurahat ke peeche galat irade hai."

Maan's eyes raged in anger. He could feel his heart beating faster and his blood boiling. It was true he never cared for women or never liked them, but he always respected them. He hated the fact that someone would go to this extent to spoil a girl's life for money or for their selfish motives.

"jab ghar mein sab ko pata chala ki usne mujhe dhoka diya, tuo sab ne mujhe use bhool jaane ke liye kaha. Aur phir sab ko yeh pata chala ki main pregnant hoon."

Maan Singh Khurana did not know what tears were and he always remained unaffected by them until geet entered his life. But now he felt like he was going to cry for the first time in his life. No, he stopped himself. There was no way he was going to cry. His heart broke but he was not going to let that pain weaken him. He looked away with disgust for that person who not only deceived her for money but also took advantage of her.

"jis zameen ke liye aap hoshiarpur aaye the, who meri thi, jo mere daarji ne shaadi ke tofhe mein us insaan ko diye the. Usne kisi ko woh zameen beich diya aur aapne who zameen kareed liya."

"Mere pariwaar ke liye izzat aur swabhimaan sab kuch hai. Woh chahte the ki main abortion karwa loon.lekin mujhe nahi karni thi abortion. Isiliye mere bhai mujhe maarna chahta tha. Aur aapne mujhe bacha ya, mujhe nai zindagi di. Phir se zindagi apne tareeke se jeene ka sahara diya. Main yeh ehsaan kabhi nahi bhoolungi maan."

"jab us din aap mujhe chod ke chale gaye the, main seedha ghar gayi aur apne parivaar ko chodne ka faisla kiya. Maine apne faisla bhi unhe sunaya aur ghar chod ke yahan aa gayi."

"aur mere kismet tuo dekhiye. Jis maan khurana ne mujhe ek baar bacha kar mujhe ek aur zindagi di, usi maan khurana ne naukri de kar mujhe ke nai vishwas di, nai himmat di."

"mujhe us din ehsaas ho gaya tha maan, ki aap chahe jitna bhi daante, jitna bhi nafrat kare mujhse, aur jitna bhi mujhe pareshaan kare, aapke hote hue koi bhi musibat mere aas paas nahi aa sakti."

"aur yeh sach hai. Har baar, har musibat ko agar main paar karke bahar aayi hoon tuo woh aapke wajah se."

"mere zindagi main ek woh aaya tha jo mere zindagi ko barbaad dar diya, mere haste khelte duniya ko khatam kar diya aur ek aap hai jo meri duniya ko phir se shuru karne par mazboor kiya."

Geet had not finished yet and was about to speak more but maan could not take it anymore. He stopped her.

"bas geet, aur kuch mat kehna."
