I am one of the silent readers of this forum and make a comment once in a while. Personally I think the PH did a great job in picking the leads. Gurmeet is a fitting choice for the portrayal of Maan. He has gotten into the skin of the character of Maan and is doing a fabulous job playing him. Dhrasti is fantastic and I cannot imagine anyone other than her as Geet.
The character of Maan requires a talented actor, otherwise the portrayal could fall flat , simply because of the complexity of Maan's character. He comes off as uncaring and rude, this could be quite a turn off. Gurmeet is doing a fabulous job balancing that with the caring side. Even at his rudest, there was an intensity about him that drew you to Maan and compelled you to keep watching the show.
Coming to Dhrasti, I think she is doing an awesome job. Geet's character is someone who is very timid and scared of everyone and everything - which is the antithesis of how Dhrasti actually is by her own admission. Geet is also a character that needs a talented actress, because initially Geet was painted as very subservient - most of us live in the city and would have found that very difficult to identify with. But she made sure that did not happen. In the current track the character of Geet runs the danger of becoming too annoying and irritating. But her portrayal has kept all of us hooked and in fact endeared Geet to us. She has managed to strike the right balance, not an easy thing to do.
I am going to be honest with you. After LNMDJ this is the first TV show that I am following and the reason for it is Gurmeet's portrayal of Maan and Dhrasti's portrayal of Geet. I love the characters of Geet and Maan. The chemistry the two share on-screen is mind-blowing. We wait for the episodes each day and speculate about what will happen furiously day in and day out. I think that alone is enough to show how popular the show and its leads are, how much people like the show and how well the actors are essaying the characters.
Finally I do not watch MJHT and hence cannot comment on Arjun Bijlani and how well he would fit the character of Maan. But if you think he would be better, that is your opinion and you are entitled to it.
