Part 10
Khurana Constructions had been running as it always had. Except now, there was a change in their khadoos boss, Maan Singh Khurana. No one noticed this apart from Geet. But that day Sasha watched Maan while they were in his office discussing a project. Geet and Adi were there too. Maan could not take his eyes off of Geet. Sasha always knew that Maan treated Geet differently than any other employee, but especially today she didn't like the way he looked at her. It seemed that these days he talked to Geet more than before and gave her projects to do despite her being only a mere secretary. She was not going to sit around and let this behnji get ahead of her and she was definitely not going to let Geet get close to MK. "MK will only be mine.", Sasha thought.
"MK, why don't you take a look at the designs that I have made." Sasha said smiling. She moved next to his chair and put a hand on his shoulder while showing him the designs.
Geet watched Sasha do this and asked if she could be excused for a minute and left the room. What was wrong with her? Why did she just leave? All she knew was that she felt an odd sense of irritation towards Sasha when she put her hand on Maan's shoulder. She told herself it was probably because Sasha was so evil and went back to Maan's office.
Maan looked up from his work and saw Geet come in. "Geet I want you take a look at these designs Sasha made. I think they are good and was thinking you may have some ideas to make them better.", Maan said.
"Okay, I'll look at them.", Geet replied.
As she took the designs, Sasha fumed with rage. How could MK ask that worthless behenji to make her designs better? This was the limit. She had to find a way to get rid of Geet once and for all.
Geet was in her office reviewing Sasha's design, while Sasha was in MK's office still discussing the project. After some time Maan asked Sasha to give Geet the contract terms and make a new contract for the project. Sasha left the his office promising to give it to Geet. After receiving the contract details, Geet did as Maan said and made a new contract. Soon it was time for lunch and she went to eat.
Sasha watched as Geet left her office. As soon as Geet was out of sight she entered her office. She saw the new contract Geet had just made and left on her desk. Sasha decided to make a few changes to the terms. She opened the saved file of the contract on Geet's computer. She threw out the copy Geet printed out and put a copy of her version on the same exact place Geet had left the original contract. She was sure Ms. Hoshiarpur would be done for this time. When MK would see the mistakes on the contract he would surely fire her. When she was done she quickly saved the file and snuck out of Geet's office. Sasha felt very smug and was confident about what she had done. But little did she know that someone had seen her play her dirty little trick.
Geet was having lunch with Pinky and Adi. "By the way Geet, where were you and MK yesterday? I know he took you to the hospital but you guys came back really late?", Adi asked.
"What!, oh no, its nothing like that, he just took me to see the doctor and then dropped me home. Maybe he went somewhere else after dropping me off and was late to the office.", Geet said with panic.
"Oh, well I just thought…", Adi stopped mid sentence. He was about to say I thought you spent the whole day together but then thought better of it.
"Lunch time is over.", Pinky announced.
Geet was relieved and hurried to her desk. Maan asked her to bring the contract to him. He also asked Sasha and Adi to come in so they could continue on the project. "Sasha can you please review the contract and let me know if everything is in place?"
"Of course, MK", she said stealthily. She pretended to read through the contract. Then she skimmed to the part she changed. What in the world? This was not the same contract she had changed. Instead this was the correct one. How could this be? She became nervous. Did someone know that she had changed the contract. How was that possible? She made sure no one saw. Then she relaxed herself and gave the papers back to MK and told him the contract was good.
Sasha could barley concentrate on the discussion of the project. She was worried that someone knew about what she did. But she was also angry. Her plan didn't work and this Geet wasn't getting fired.
"I think we could discuss the rest of this project tomorrow. You guys can get back to your office.", Maan declared. Geet, Sasha and Adi began to leave when Maan asked Sasha to stay behind.
When Geet and Adi were gone Sasha asked, "Do you have something important to say to me MK?
"Yes actually I do. What were you doing in Geet's office during lunch today?", Maan asked with his hand folded across his chest.
"What? I wasn't in Geet's office. Frankly MK, I don't know what your talking about.", Sasha replied with fear in her eyes.
"Really? So it wasn't you who changed the Contract terms?", Maan went into his drawer and pulled out some crumpled paper and then another copy of the contract that was neatly stapled together. "Do you mind telling me why you threw out Geet's contract and printed out this new one with changes?", he said shaking the paper in his hand. He look of fury on his features were frightening.
Sasha began to back away, "MK, I…I didn't do it", she didn't know what else to do besides denying it. She knew there was no way to cover this up.
"Don't you dare lie to me. I saw you with my own eyes. Did you forget that my office and Geet's office is only divided by glass?", he whispered ferociously.
Sasha looked at the blinds the shielded Geets's office from MK's and noticed that thought they were closed one of the blinds was open. There was a clear view of Geet's desk through it. How could she have not noticed that? Damn!! What was she going to do to get out of this?
"Listen Sasha, I don't know why you did this. Maybe it's because you don't like Geet, but your messing with my company and I won't stand for that. If this contract was sent to the clients with the mistakes the company would have suffered.", Maan informed her.
"I'm really sorry. Please don't fire me. I promise it won't happen again.", Sasha pleaded. "I've worked here for five years and I have always done a good job. All this was just poor judgment on my part. I'm very sorry."
"I can't trust you, how do you expect me to keep you as an employee?"
"I promise I will never do anything like this again. Please just give me one more chance. My father will be so disappointed at me if he finds out about this. Just give me one more chance and I will redeem myself.", She said in fear.
Maan thought it over. If he fired Sasha he would loose a excellent architect. But what she did was inexcusable. Then he thought what would Geet do in this situation. He knew that Geet would give Sasha another chance despite her trying to harm her, plainly out of the goodness of her heart. Then he deliberated.
"Fine, I will give your one more chance. But this will be your one and only chance. Just remember I will keep an eye on you.", He said towering over her.
"Thank you so much MK. I promise I will never do anything like this again.", She said in relief and quickly turned to leave.
"Oh one more thing Sasha. If you ever try to harm Geet in any way, you will never step into Khurana Constructions again. Is that understood?", He said glaring at her.
Sasha could clearly see the ager and conviction in his eyes and quietly replied, "Yes MK". She left his office in a hurry.
The rest of the day went smoothly. Every time Geet went to Maan's office his face lit up. When Geet was near him she got a weird feeling at the pit of her stomach. What was wrong with her? She brushed away her silly thoughts and decided to get her work done. Geet finished all her work and went to ask Maan if she could go home. "Sir, do you need me to do anything else?"
"No Geet, you can go.", He said wishing he could drop her home.
An hour after Geet left the office was empty. Maan missed her presence. He was doing some new building designs when he looked up to see Geet sitting across his desk. She smiled at him sweetly and was wearing the white saree she wore at Mr. Chopra's party. She was so beautiful he thought.
"Geet? What are you doing here? And I thought that saree ripped on the night of the party?", He questioned.
She didn't answer, instead she got off the chair and walked around the desk to him. She took on of his hands and ushered him to get up. When he got up, all of a sudden, she hugged him tightly. He was surprised at her action. What was going on with her? But he stopped thinking and hugged her back. He held on to her as tight as he could. Geet pulled away from him and whispered in his ear, "I Love You."
Maan looked at her in shock. Then his phone began to ring and Geet disappeared. He was still standing there ignoring the phone. He was seriously going crazy. This wasn't the first time this happened. Geet always occupied his thoughts but to think she was actually there was definitely a sign of a mental problem. But he also knew the solution to his problem. If only Geet marry him his problems would go away. "Yeh ladki mujhe pagal kar degi", he said exasperated. Then he decided to go home and get some rest before his imagination ran wild.
When Maan arrived home Dev was waiting for him at the out house. "Hey bro, I really need to talk to you.", he told Maan.
"Not now Dev, can we talk later?"
"It's really important. I'll only take a few minutes."
"Alright, what is it?", Maan asked.
"I was wondering if I can start working at the office from now on?", He said nervously.
"You really want to work? Since when?", Maan asked him raising an eyebrow.
"Yes, I do. I want to make something of my life. How long can I sit at home doing nothing? Also I want to give you a hand with the business.", Dev answered.
Maan wasn't entirely sure if letting Dev come to the office would be a good idea. Dev wasn't exactly the most efficient and reliable person. The mistakes he made in past also didn't make decreased his confidence in Dev. But then he decided to let come to work. Maybe it would bring a change in him for the better he thought. But he had to keep an eye on him at all times.
"Okay you can come to the office, but starting Monday. There's no point of you starting in the middle of the week. Anyways I have to arrange a office for you.", Maan told him.
"Thanks bro. I promise I'll work hard.", Dev said smiling.
"I hope so.", Maan told him.
"Now I'll finally get to meet your secretary.", Dev said with a devious smile.
"Dev why do you always say unnecessary things? I'm tired now. Leave before I change my mind about you working.", Maan said in aggravation.
"Ok, ok, relax. I'll go.", then he left Maan alone.
Maan got in the shower and calmed his mind. Then he got into bed anticipating for morning to come so he could see his Geet again. He went to sleep peacefully. But this peace would only last for a few more days because a dark storm was on the horizon.
