Chapter 25

Daadi, Mrs Savitri Devi Khurana. The matriarch of Khurana household. The head of the family and epitome of elegance and poise. She had worked very hard to keep this family together after the incident that had shaken the very core of its foundation.

Savitri devi had held on to her breaking family with all her heart and might. She had groomed two fine young men the best she could. She knew both of them had their axes to grind but it was natural. They had lost both the parents at the time when they needed their guidance not their affairs thrown in their faces.

She had been waiting for Maan and Vicky to come home. But looks like these two boys have decided that work comes first, even before the wedding.

Savitri Devi was very happy to have Maan settle down finally. She knew about a French girl in college who had taken his fancy. He had made her partner too but didn't know why he never brought her to meet her. May be it was not serious, unlike Abolee, who seemed to have changed her grandson from a frowning machine to a living breathing being. She had brought the smile back on his face. She had loved meeting her. She was a cheerful girl, even if a bit shy for a Canadian. But she was happy that she was more Indian than most girls she has seen in New Delhi. Gosh, what the britishers did not do, the americans finished. The trends had changed so much over the years, it was hard to believe the same conservative India exists other than in the rural areas.

She finally retired to her room, making up her mind to give a few choice words to both the grandsons.

Vicky came home to the Khurana Mansion around one am tiptoeing to his room. He did not want Daadi to wake up and neither did he want maan to know what he had been up to. But he was out of luck. Maan came out of his study as he was going up the staircase. He said Vicky! And Vicky winced, tried to go another step to show as if he has not heard but Maan said, I know you hear me. Come into the Study now.

Vicky went with a sullen face behind Maan making faces behind his head and straightened when Maan turned suddenly.

He said, I hope you were not up to your usual tricks with Nargis. She is our lawyer and I don't want you screwing things up because you fancy someone. That's when Vicky decided to come clean.

I love her bro! really. I didn't say because one she had not told me in so many words how she felt. I have proposed to her but there is a dilemma I need to talk with you about.

Maan said yeah her religion! Daadi will have to be told carefully, if you are really wanting to marry her, I will help you.

Vicky then goes to maan and hugs him Thanks bhaiya! I love you. you know me so well. yes I want to marry her, but should we talk now? I mean your wedding is coming up. I can wait, he adds magnanimously.

Wait is it? You and wait? That's a first! But no we will talk to Daadi in the morning. What about Nargis' family. Have you asked her about that? Vicky clapped his hand on his forehead. Dhut teri ki! I forgot about that. I thought Daadi raazi ho jaayengi to everything will be fine. Now I am even more scared. Bhai kya hoga mera. Pehli baar soch raha hoon ki kisi se shaadi karni hai..and all these hassles. No, No, she is worth it. I really really love Nargis and I am not letting her go.

Maan says arre melodrama king of the 1940s kis track pe chale gaye. Who is telling you to give anyone up. Everything will be fine. Arre larki chukk le aayenge'aise thori uske ghar wale mana kar sakte hai. Lekin sochna to padta hai. By the way, remind me again, why do I let you handle the business? Love life to handle nahi kar sakte. Arre tujhe ishq ne nikkama bana diya..Vicky.

They both laugh out and feel much better. They then discuss how, who and what will be told to daadi about Nargis. they both then retire to their respective rooms.

Maan= a bag of contradictions.

1st he was the one hyperventilating that he was getting married, and now he's all cool as a cucumber: "Everything will be fine"

Waah Maan waah, suno tum log yeh tarzan ban ne ki koshish chhor do. Do Eiffel tower & slap ring a bell? It does! Very Good!: "Arre larki chukk le aayenge"

Hello, agar mere ghar waala mana kar dete, then no way I'd hurt them and proceed ahead with marrying you!: "aise thori uske ghar wale mana kar sakte hai"

Jaise khud ki love life handle ho rahi thi jhaapar kha kar! During the whole flight, and even after it, Maan you were incensed:" Love life to handle nahi kar sakte "

Arrey cold showers, aur meetings ke doraan mujhe check out karne waale deewane ke muh se: "By the way, remind me again, why do I let you handle the business? .......... . Arre tujhe ishq ne nikkama bana diya..Vicky "

Ab main aur kya kahoon! Mujhe lagta hai maine saare proofs de diye hain!

he knows what he had done..lekin bhai ko thora.help karne ke liye kya..jaata..hai..he is giving him dutch courage..that's all..

Maan ki pol toh kholni hogi mujhe kabhi na kabhi! But I can't do it front of Dadi! It would be too embarressing for both of us!😆
