Aishwarya was SUPPOSED to be annoyin. thats what Valley Girls DO. If you live in India you wud not understand that. Her acting was good. It was polished in the emotional scenes.

And please...After Aish came in the movie, no one even remembered who Bipasha was 😆 😆 😆

[QUOTE=Fashion_2005]Review: Dhoom 2

NOT QUITE WRITE
The New Sunday Express - November 26, 2006

The stars rock. The stunts rock. The dances rock. The writing sucks.

THE censor's certificate for Dhoom 2 has the number of reels as 16, which approximates to roughly two-and-a-half hours. But I'll let you in on a little secret – the content, such as it is, barely fills up a couple of hours. So what's with the extra thirty minutes, you ask? For the slow-motion shots, of course. With Bipasha Basu and Aishwarya Rai, Hrithik Roshan and Abhishek Bachchan, this is a star-studded film – what stars! what studs! – and their contracts clearly include a clause that says they will not begin emoting till they have locked eyes with the camera and had their moment (or moments, and more moments) of introductory slo-mo glory. So we're treated to shots such as the one with Bipasha Basu – as a policewoman so bodylicious, the rest of the force is surely imagining a game of cops 'n' rubbers – at a shooting range, with a gun in hand, with her eyes glinting with steely concentration at the outlined target, and... with her hair billowing silkily in the wind. (That's probably why she's not sweating, because of that invisible fan under her chin.) And Hrithik, I don't think I ever saw him walk normally – in normal time, that is. He gets into that slo-mo stride and keeps walking – and walking and walking – towards us. Heck, even Uday Chopra is allotted a quota of slow-motion.

And that's why Dhoom 2 is as much an action adventure as a show reel for the gorgeousness of its stars. I got my biggest laugh in the scene where Hrithik whips up a salad dinner for himself and Aishwarya. (They're both crooks. On their tail are cops Abhishek, Uday and Bipasha. End of functional story.) She takes a dainty bite, then asks if she could have some, you know, real food – so he fixes her a big, juicy, calorific burger. What a laugh, Aishwarya Rai wolfing down a burger! You should see her here, the sexiest she's been in a while. (Performance-wise, she's annoyingly affected, but hey, she was sincere in Umrao Jaan and that tanked like nobody's business, so why complain if she's back in plastic mode in search of a hit?) Aishwarya and Bipasha and Hrithik have quite a few dance numbers – each one wonderfully choreographed – and despite all the gravity-defying jumping around, there's nothing on their bodies that jiggles, nothing that wobbles. Only the fact that their mouths are lip-synching the songs reminds us that they're really actors, not androids. Oh no, burgers are definitely not what these people were having for dinner – especially while shooting a film where Hrithik is described as, "Duniya mein sabse kaabil aur cool chor," the most capable, cool thief in the world. Dhoom 2 is the kind of star vehicle where coolness becomes the USP of a chor.

Apart from the stars – a flashy Hrithik steals the film from under Abhishek's dour nose – the reason Dhoom 2 works to the extent that it does is because it keeps invoking masala Bollywood (Abhishek's unexpected nod to his father's coin-tossing in Sholay, Hrithik's elaborately silly heists reminiscent of Dharmendra's in Jugnu and Shalimar) and masala Hollywood, especially the Bond adventures. Like the latter, this too begins "somewhere in the desert of Namibia" and winds up "somewhere in the Fiji islands", making a stop at colourful Rio along the way. I thought I saw the name of Vic Armstrong in the credits, and if this is the Vic Armstrong – the man behind some of the best 007 stunts – that probably explains the Live and Let Die-style water-scooter leap. Some of the action is so preposterously entertaining, I didn't know if I was laughing with the movie or at it. But between stunts, we're at the mercy of the writers – and I didn't even mind the laziness in logic or continuity or character development so much as the out-of-nowhere reach for grand emotion, with a completely unneeded love story that reaches its own levels of preposterousness by the time someone witnesses an act of betrayal while dressed in a Pagliacci clown-suit. I think we're meant to sniffle at the operatic sadness of it all, but you may end up thinking: Why all this fuss in a film that hired Bipasha Basu for the sole reason that she could put on a Baywatch-red swimsuit and jog... in slow motion?

JayShahs Dhoom 2 Review - Spoiler Alert

I finally caught Dhoom 2 yesterday.

I basically will judge the film under 5 categories and give a score out of 2 for each.

Storyline, Screenplay
Character sketching/behavioural quotients
Performances
Direction
Does it Gel ?

Storyline/Screenplay

The storyline is very simple and ala Hollywood in a way with a dose of Bollywood. A simple cop and robbers caper, only the robber is in fact a lover and an amazing dancer ! Hrithik plays 'A', an internationally known criminal who steals rare antiques. Abhishek is the cop assigned to catch him with the help of his sidekick Uday and ex school friend Bipasha. On assignment, Hrithik meets the gorgeous Aishwariya, who is in awe of Hrithik and the two decide to join forces and steal internationally. What is not known to Hrithik until later on is Aishwariya has been employed by Abhishek to knab him when he commits the crime ! A pretty simple story ! The twist in... ... the tale ala Bollywood is the movie takes of on a different tangent. The chemistry between Hrithik and Aishwariya leads to them falling in love ! And this is the point for me when D2 really fails.
The screenplay and storyline was in place for this to be an Abhishek vs Hrithik show down. What really happens is that Aishwariya is the 'bridge' between the two and the two never really get enough screentime together to solidify the main backbone of the storyline. The screenplay as expected is all over the place. Many loopholes but this was as expected.

Character sketching/behavioural quotients

Hrithik and Aishwariya are pretty well etched out characters. The real let down is Abhishek and how little his character gets to develop. I just felt the film needed more of him to really make the right impact. It turned into more a Hrithik/Aish love fest, full of dance sequences, face offs, Aish stripping, Hrithik playing the cool dude and just a different tangent in the movie which made it into something it should never have been. Uday was a funny character and Bips was ok

Performances

Hrithik gets a lot of scope in this movie. The guy is an unbelievable mover/dancer and looks darn cool in this role. He plays his character pretty well and has many disguises. He doesn't overact in the emotional scenes – that there are quite a few is another flaw ! The scenes with Abhishek are done really well – especially the scene where they find out about each other in the beach party. That he has the best introduction, the best songs, is without question. Whether the movie works solely because of him I don't really agree.
Aishwariya looks so gorgeous. She annoyed me a little at the beginning but settled in well into the role.
Abhishek had only 3 or 4 scenes of particular importance in the context of the movie. That he delivered in these scenes is great; that he only got this much is questionable. The movie really would have worked for me if there was more importance placed on his characterisation – that he is integral to the movie is without question, but more could have been done. The scene at the table when he meets Hrithik was done well and his friendship with Uday is well etched out.
Uday got the most laughs, more so for the lines then the acting. Bipasha looked so hot and actually got a failry decent role. Not completely sidetracked.

Directon

Sanjay Gadhvi does as well as can be expected here. Poor screenplay and not really the right blend of macho braun – it turned into a love story for the most part. The showdown scenes and the emotional ones were the places where he could show his metal and he pretty much delivered here. The direction style on the whole wasn't great. Too many entrances, far too many slow motion confrontational/fight scenes and just a lack of discipline to create the right air of tension between Abhishek and Hrithik.

Does it Gel ?

Well as a pure entertainer Dhoom 2 does deliver. It's full of gloss, a few great sequences and big lavish dance sequences. Is it a good movie – not particularly, but my expectation was never for a great movie.
YashRaj have really missed a trick here. The Abhishek vs Hrithik confrontation has taken a backseat and Aishwariya's character takes to much precedence in proceedings. A great example to compare to is the De Niro/Pacino chemistry in Heat. That they only meet twice in the movie for a matter of minutes COULD have been a fatal flaw; but the underlying tension and one upsmanship depicted makes for compelling viewing. This tension was never really felt in this movie. That the two or three scenes where Abhishek and Hrithik met were the ones I remembered the most pretty much solidifies my standing on the movie.
Apart from this, the movie looks slick and has its share of good moments. The structure is pretty bad – as expected. The fight sequences in slow motion and the face offs are a little over the top too. That the movie looks aesthetically great saves it from being a poor one.

Rating 1 out of 2

A sidenote : If a Dhoom 3 was ever to be made, call this a sickening wet dream…..but the kind of character SRK portrayed in Don would kick ass. A Dhoom meets Don movie would rock IMO. The crazy, madman against the ice cool Bachchan would be some compelling stuff IMO.

Cumulative rating – 5.5 out of 10

Dhoom 2 is definitely worth a watch ONCE. It's a youthful casting; one where you might not see them together again for some time.

For the Box Office, this move should be a winner. Not award worthy – far from it, but a flood of stars and glossy sets + a few really good scenes should see the movie rake in the moolah for at least 10 days. Beyond that and the initial euphoria it should settle down and end at a handsome total.

Totally agree with Dola..I am a die hard Aishwarya fan,I really like her,but in this film, she was a disappointment

For one,she looked totally LOST in the movie.SHe looked confused and overawed...The liplock was passionate, but the passion mainly emanated from Aryan...That entire scene, where Aryan loads the revolver with one bullet and both start shooting taking turns,Ash looked LOST,CONFUSED,INTIMIDATED,SCARED and ICY cold...🤢...She didnt show any passion from her side,it was one of her worst performances...She looked so uncomfortable....

The clothes....She had ZILCH attitude, she just couldnt carry it off..The scene where she uncovers, she's in those hotpants, short top and boots..It was 🤢 ..The basketball scene was another one where she looked BAD in those short clothes(especially when the camera caught a toe to head view of her)...She looked good in Dil LAga NA (albeit she wore a mini skirt, she looked good👏) and the Crazy song...Even in the last scene(at the pub, where she's wearing a white shirt and white skirt),it looked forced on her.....

Bipasha on the other hand didnt get the meaty role, but she oozed sex appeal and oomph..As Shonali, and as Monali, she looked great...She has the right attitude, which is THE sine qua non needed to carry off short clothes.....I was initially put off by the pictures and posters YRF had released before the movie,I though Bips looked ewww, but I was wrong...Ash has a photogenic face and thus looked good in the still photographs, but when it comes to real life and celluloid,Bips takes away the cake....Just goes to prove that simply short clothes and mini skirts alone dont make anyone look sexy,Its the attitude with one sports and attitude is innate, either one has it,or one doesnt..Period!...No offense, but this was my brutally honest opinion...

Ash was terrible. Her look, her lingo - nothing about her character was any good. Even the emotional scene with Hritik looked forced and unnatural. When she revealed herself to Aryan after they escaped I couldn't believe that such a gorgeous woman could look so bad! 🤢

I agree,....her character never hooked me on..From the beginning till the end,I was simply waiting for her to start performing, but she left alot to be desired....All those scenes with Hrithik, the passion and love seemed to be one sided,Ash plainly looked like a cold ice maiden🤢.....Their first meeting, the basketball scene, the dinner scene, the confrontation scene, all of these were enacted by Ash with mediocrity.....The ONLY good scenes(or rather dare I say tolerable scenes) were the following

When Aryan first shows his real face to Sunehri(She was drooling, and it looked real),the scene where Aryan explains the importance and value of those coins to Sunehri at the Museum at Rio,and the intercuts of Aryan-Sunehri in the My name is Ali song...BArring these scenes,NONE of the HR-Ash scenes looked impressive....

And there were people saying DHoom 2 is the best movie..SORRY,it doesnt come anywhere close to Omkara,RDB and Munnabhai...HEck,Krrish was better,as Priyanka did better than Ash😭..ATleast she showed some passion towards Krrish...IF only Hrithik wasnt there in the movie,it would have been total total total CRASS....I hope Ash improvises on her histrionics in Jodha Akbar,if this is the case, them I'm afraid JA would flop...Dhoom atleast had other stars too, actions etc so one actor can afford to perform badly...But JA is 3 hrs devoted to Hrithik Ash's romance and life..If Ash doesnt act, then no one can save it from tanking...😭
