Chapter 7

Rajkumari Sandhya gasped. Rajkumar Veer and Dharam's eyes widened in horror.

Rajkumari Sandhya:(Encouragingly) Uthiye pitaji! Aap isse nahi haar sakte hai! Dikhadijiye ki Rajkumari Sandhya ke pitaji kisi se kam nahi hai!

Maharaj Sumeshwar stirred feebly, unsure whether to move or not.

Rajkumari Sandhya: Uthiye pitaji! Uthiye!

Veer couldn't bear it any longer. He grabbed his weapon and charged towards Bhimdev.

He raised his sword, but stopped in mid-air, his mouth formed into a perfect '0'.

Maharaj Sumeshwar had got up! Sword in hand, scratch on neck, he started fighting again.

Maharaj Sumeshwar: Veer! Chale jao yahaan se! Yeh ladayi mere aur Bhimdev ke beech mein hai!

Veer remained stationary. An exasperated Rajkumari Sandhya walked towards him, grabbed his arm, and tried to pull him away.

Sandhya: Chalo Veer.

No words came out of Veer's mouth as Sandhya dragged him away.

Maharaj Sumeshwar faught with new vigour. He jumped around with his sword, hurting Bhimdev with every chance he could grasp, and making it impossible for Bhimdev to touch him with his sword. Evidently, the end of this fight was definite, and all the small doubts were cleared as Maharaj Sumeshwar knocked down Bhimdev's sword.

Dharam started clapping, a finally conscious Veer followed his example, while an ecstatic Sandhya ran towards her father, wearing a broad smile.

Carefully trodding on Bhimdev's foot, Sandhya opened her arms wide (so to knock Bhimdev down) and gave her father a big hug.

Sandhya: Shabbash pitaji, aapne kar dikhaya.

Sumeshwar: (Laughing) Arrey, mein pita kiska hoon?

Sandhya: Voh bhi sahi hai...

Dharam and Veer walked towards the king.

Dharam: Hume pata nahi tha, ki aap itne acche yodha hai.

Sandhya: Pita kiske hain?
Veer: Isiliye to hairani ho rahi hai.

Sandhya: (Angrily) Accha, aur kal raat mene kis jungli bandar ko haraya tha?

Veer: Mujhe kaise pata hoga. Mein ek jungli bandar thodi hoon.

Sandhya tried to retaliate, but Sumeshwar interrupted.

Sumeshwar: (Pointing at pocket) Veer, yeh kya hai?

Veer: Voh, yeh...yeh..haan...yeh Rajkumari Sandhya ka inaam hai.

Sumeshwar: (Smiling) Bohot sundar gudiya hai. Sandhya, shukriya kaho.

Sandhya: Mujhe nahi chahiye.

Sumeshwar: (Shocked) Sandhya....

Sandhya: Mujhe nahi chahiye.

And with that, Sandhya starts walking away.

Veer: (Calling to her) Lekin yeh to tumhara inaam hai.

Sandhya: Mera nahi, yeh tumhara inaam hai.

Veer: Mera? Lekin ladayi to tumne jeeti hai.

Sandhya: Haan, toh yeh tumhara haarne ka inaam hai.

Veer's face represented utter shock as he followed the king and his brother.

Soon, they reached the fairgrounds, where they were greeted with much applause, cheers, and enormous hugs for everyone from Sneha.

Sneha:(To Sandhya) Humari to jaan hi nikal gayi thi, pata hai tumne hume kitna rulaya.

Sandhya: Sneha, meri galti thi ki Maharaj Bhimdev ko mujhe lagaav hai?

Sneha: Yeh Maharaj Bhimden kaun hai?

Sandhya: Koi hai. Veer se bhi bade bewakuf.

Veer: Arrey, maine tumhari jaan bachayi hai, aur tumne shukriya bhi nahi kaha.

Sandhya: (Laughing madly) Bohot mazaak karte ho tum.

Veer scowled.

Sumeshwar: Lekin Sandhya, tumhe dhunda to isi ne hai na.

Sandhya: Pitaji, aap iski baton mein mat aiye. Vo sab daku se mein ladi hoon. Us Tasha se mein bhagi hoon. Aur agar kisine meri jaan bachayi hai, to voh hai aap. Us Bhimdev se lad kar.

Sumeshwar: Lekin mein vahaan aata hi nahi, agar Veer ne-

Sandhya: (Interrupting) Aur jab tak Bhimdev vaha pohochta, tab tak mein vahaan se bhaag jaati.

Veer: (Smugly) Theekh hai, agli baar jab tumhari jaan khatre mein hogi, tab tum mujhe mat bulana.

Sandhya: Kabhi nahai bulaungi.

While Sandhya and Veer were bickering, an outraged Bhimdev was shouting at Tasha (who was now in Bhimdev's guest chamber, getting treated).

Bhimdev: (Shouting) Ek pandrah saal ki ladki mere khaas aadmi ke haathon se kese phisal gayi?!

Tasha: (Meekly) Maharaj, voh ek mamuli ladki nahi hai. Use ladna aata hai.

Bhimdev: MEIN JAANTA HOON USE LADNA AATA HAI BEWAKUF! MENE TUMHE BATAYA BHI THA! LEKIN NAHI! TUMHE TO APNE AADMIYON PAR PURA BHAROSA HAI! KYA KAH RAHE THE TUM?! Maharaj, mein aur mere aadmi aisi Rajkumariyon ko ungli par nachate hai, aap fiqr mat kariye.

Tasha: (Pleadingly) Maharaj, mujheek aur mauka chahiye. Mein aapko saabit kar dunga-

Bhimdev: (Interrupting) Ek mauka to diya tha tumko.

Tasha: Haan Maharaj. Lekin tab mein naasamajh tha. Ab nahi hu. Ab mein puri taiyaari ke saath-

Bhimdev: (Bored) Thikh hai, thikh hai. Mil gaya mauka. Ab apna bhashan band karo.

Tasha: Sumaina mein mera ek bhaidiya hai. Voh mujhe Rajkumari Sandhya ki khabar dete rahega.

Bhimdev: Bohot accha. Ab bas sahi mauka ka intezaar hai.

The two villians laugh maniacally.

Meanwhile, at the fair, everyone was celebrating the return of the princess.

Sumeshwar: Ab to humari saari chinta dur ho gayi hai. Ab hume chalna chahiye.

Sandhya: Lekin pitaji, aap thodi der aur nahi ruk sakte hai?

Sumeshwar: Nahi Sandhya. Hum Sumaina ke Raja hai. Aur Sumaina ke Raja ko mauj masti karna mana hai. Lekin tum charo meri tarah budhe thodi ho. Jao, nacho, gao, mauj manao. Abhi to tumhare khelne ke din hain.

The four royals nod.

Sandhya: (Eyeing Veer) Aur haan, meri jaan bachane ke liye bohot, bohot shukriya. (Pauses) Pitaji .

The king ignores his daughter's acknowledgement, and Veer sniggers.

Sneha: (Hastily) Accha, ab chalo, hume tumhe bohot kuch dikhana he.

And with that, Sneha pulls Sandhya away as DharamVeer follow.

After half an hour Sneha had showed Sandhya everything around the fair, from the food stalls, to the horses, and even the bangles shop.

Sneha: Ab tumhe kya karna hai.

Sandhya: Pata nahi. Ab to tumne mujhe sab kuch dikha diya hai.

As if god had heard Sandhya's prayer, a group of dancers came their way, pulling people in to join their dance.

Sneha: (Excited) Chalo naachte hai.

Sandhya: Mujhe nahi jaana hai, agar tumhe jaana he to tum chale jao.

Sneha: Sandhya, tum jaanti ho ki hum tumhare bager nahi jayenge.

Sandhya: Nahi Sneha, mujhe naachna nahi aata hai.

Sneha: Jhoot kyun bol rahi ho? Chalo na!

Dharam coughed.

Dharam: Agar Rajkumari Sandhya ko nahi jaana hai, to hum aapke saaath chal sakte hai.

Sandhya: Arrey vah! Jao Sneha, aise Rajkumar ke saath nachna tumhare naseeb mein likha hai. Kya keh rahi thi tum? Itne sundar aur-

Sneha: (Interrupting) Theekh hai Sandhya. Tum itna keh rahi ho to''(turning to Dharam) chale?

Dharam and Sneha joined in with the group of dancers.

After a while, a dancer came jumping towards Sandhya and Veer. He grabbed their hands and tried to pull them in.

Sandhya: Nahi, mujhe naachna nahi aata hai.

Dancer: Accha, lekin mene suna hai ki aapko to bohot acchi tarah se naachna aata hai.

Sandhya: (Anxiously) Sach me, mujhe naachna nahi aata hai.

Despite the cries and requests from the two royals, the dancer pulled them in.

Everyone from the fair joined in the dancing, having the time of their life. Sandhya and Sneha danced together. Dharam and Veer danced together. There was no competition, it was all just for fun.

Sandhya: (Shouting over noise) Esa lag raha hai ki saari duniya humare saath naach rahi hai.

Sneha: (Also shouting) Haan, kitna maza aa raha hai na?

Before Sandhya could reply, a commanding voice shouted for the music to stop, for all the dancing to stop, and called out to Sneha.

Commanding voice: Rajkumari Sneha!

Sandhya squeeked as she grabbed Dharam and Veer by their arms and whisked them away to hide behind a tree.

Sandhya: Jaldi, is ped par jadho, aur chup jao.

Dharam: Lekin aap hume chupa kyun rahi hai?
Sandhya: Voh sab tumhe mein baad me bata dungi.

Sandhya grabbed a ripe mango from the lowest branch of the tree and ran towards Sneha.

Sneha: M'.ma'.

Sandhya: (Casually) Arrey bua! Aap yahaan kese?

Sandhya bends down to touch her aunt's feet.

Sneha's mum (Maharani Sushila): Humne suna hai ki tum dono Aryavraths ke saath yeh mela dekhne ae ho. Kya yeh sach he?

Sneha: Ma''voh'..

Sandhya: Nahi bua. Mein to Aryanagar ke Rajkumaron ke saath jaana chahti thi, lekin Sneha ke mana kar diya. Keh rahi thi, ma ko Aryavrathon se sakt nafrat hai'..aur mujhe bhi.

At that moment, Veer fell out of the tree.

Dharam: (Worried) VEER!

Dharam jumped down too.

Maharani Sushila: Yeh dono kaun hain?

Sneha: Vo ma'.yeh hai Dharam (gestures to Dharam) aur yeh hai Veer (gestures to Veer).

Maharani Sushila: Aryanagar ke Dharam Veer?

Sneha: (Scared) J'j'j-

Sandhya: (Interrupting) Nahi nahi. Dharam to humara dost hai. Aur Veer mera naya sevak. Maine Veer ko aam todne ka kaam saup diya, lekin Dharam madat karna chahta tha.

Veer glares at Sandhya fiercly.

Maharani Sushila: Vaise tumhare sevak ke paas bohot acche kapde hai.

Sandhya: Kya karoon, meri humdardi hai iske saath.

(Turning to Veer) Aam kyun nahi tode tumne? Itne der se pedh mein bethe bethe kya kar rahe the?

Veer: Nahi mein tumhara sevak hoon, aur nahi mein tumhare liya aam todunga.

Maharani Sushila: To kaun ho tum?
Veer: Mein'..mein'

Sandhya: Mein to mazaak kar rahi thi bua. Yeh to Dharam ka bhai hai.

Maharani Sushila: Sandhya, aisa mazaak nahi karna chahiye, logo ko bura lagta hai.

(Turning to Veer) Sandhya ke taraf se hum maafi maangti hoon.

Dharam: Uski koi zaroorat nahi hai. Rajkumari Sandhya aur humare bhai mein humesha mazak hi chalta rehta hai.

The queen smiles.

Maharani Sushila: Kher, ab tum humare saath chalo Sandhya. Tumhare pitaji tumhara intazaar kar rahe hai.

Sneha: Ji maa.

Sneha turned around and hugged Sandhya.

The mother and daughter start picking their way out of the colourful fairgrounds as Rajkumar Dharam watches his love vanish away with her mother.
