"I'm tired" he said softly, and saw her eyelids flutter closed at his voice. "I'm tired of lying to myself, I'm tired of hurting the ones I love without meaning to, but today…today, I just want to know, Soni."
She met his eyes and seemed to shrink back at his expression.
"Veer, there's nothing to know – " she began.
"Don't lie to me, how many times will you keep doing this? At least today, for the first and last time –"
She interrupted, her eyes silently beseeching him to go no further.
"Veer, I told you, there's nothing I can say that you will want to hear, please let go of me – "
"All these lies, Soni? And in front of God? You can't hide your feelings that well, did all these days only mean something to me? I don't care how much it hurts, you have to tell me the truth today, this very moment, as we stand – God is your witness today, Soni…"
Veer hated her, hated himself for being the cause of the tears that were beginning to flow freely down her face.
"Soni, please look at me," Hesitantly, he raised his hands and cupped her face, and almost regretted it when he felt her flinch. "I will go my whole life without another word from you, not even a glance, if only you can let me have this moment. Tell me, Soni…tell me that you love me."
