Part 9
Hey guys…Here with the next part! May seem kind of boring and a real drag, but I needed to move the story somehow…I hope I don't disappoint you all! Please excuse my mistakes as one of the keys on my labtop broke, so I got to get it fixed…
The birds sat outside perched on the tree branch, chirping their melodious and soothing hymns as the rays of sunshine made their way through the light curtains in the room. Armaan stirred in his sleep as the bright rays hit his eyes, he immediately drew the covers on himself in hope of getting more peaceful sleep. He had never attained such peaceful sleep as he had that night.
He had never ever in his life thought about one girl so much as he did that night. Plenty of girls came and went from his life, and he being a flirt, didn't mind getting attention from the girls either. Armaan never took the girls he went out with seriously, but he never in his life disrespected a girl. None of the girls made such an impact on him as Riddhima had. Riddhima—there was definitely something to her which made Armaan admit to himself that he is in love with her. She was different than all the other girls he had ever gone out with. No girl ever made it a point to come into his dreams, however, just last night all Armaan saw in his dreams was Riddhima's beautiful, glowing face over and over again as if someone had pressed the repeat button on their iPOD and somehow Armaan didn't want to wake up from his sleep for the fear of not being able to see it again.
"Tring Tring" rang Armaan's alarm.
Armaan slowly moved his hand over to his dressing table and shut the alarm, while laying in bed with his eyes closed.
"Armaan, utho," said Keerti as she knocked on his door and left to the kitchen.
Hearing his mother's voice, Armaan quickly sat himself on bed as he ruffled his hair with the movement of his hand. "Hmmm…kitni achi neend ayi thi mujhe," said Armaan as he smiled with his eyes closed, sitting cross-legged on bed. Armaan sighed, "Aab to shaadi bhi khatam ho gayi, patani Riddhima se mulakat ho ghi bhi ya nahi….yeh nahi ho keh sirf sapno mein Riddhima se mulakat ho," he said in desperation.
"I am stupid, I am so stupid," said Armaan while he hit his head with his hand as a thought came to him. "I never asked her if she is staying in Mumbai…maybe she isn't...maybe she is going back to Delhi." "No, she can't leave," he said while shaking his head in attempt to keep the negative thoughts away. After debating with himself for a while, he came to a conclusion. "I'll have to call up Anji and ask her…I'll go get fresh and I'll call her after I get to the hospital," he said as he assured himself while walking toward the bathroom.
Armaan got out wearing a crisp white collared shirt with denim jeans. He went downstairs to find a note sitting beside a mug of coffee.
Armaan, here's your coffee made just the way you like it…I've left for Sanjeevani...eat your breakfast and come on time for your duty at the hospital…
Love, Mom
A smile found its way on Armaan's face as he read the note. "Yeh Mom bhi na, aapni phikar kaam, meri zyaada karti haan," said Armaan as he shook his head smilingly. Armaan ignored his mother's instructions to eat breakfast…He just grabbed his coffee and made way to his car to leave for the hospital.

On the other side, Riddhima was up and awake since early morning. After all, today was her first day of work at Sanjeevani Mumbai. She had made frequent visits to this Sanjeevani as a child, but now she was actually going to work there. She was excited to work at the same place her father was working at; however, she was still a bit nervous. After all, her dad was the head of Sanjeevani in Mumbai and a well-renowned doctor, so she had to make sure she made her dad proud of her. She had to work to the best of her ability and make sure that she didn't do anything which would prompt her dad to bow his head down with shame.
She had just come back from her jogging and went to hit the showers. She got out of the shower wearing a blue churidaar suit and made her way toward her dresser. As she sat in front of the mirror, she dried her long hair with a towel, and applied kajal around her wide eyes and finished off with applying gloss on her rosy lips.
She made her way to the dining table as she grabbed her purse.
"Morning papa, ma, nani," said Riddhima as she pulled out the seat to sit on.
"Morning beta," replied Shashank as Padma and Nani smiled at Riddhima while arranging breakfast on the table.
"Tho beta, are you excited for your first day of work in Sanjeevani," said Shashank as he sipped on his masala wala chai.
"Of course Papa, but I am also feeling nervous as I'm going to be working with a great doctor like you…but it's not my first day working at Sanjeevani, after all I've worked 4-5 months at the Sanjeevani in Delhi," she said as she ate a bowl of fruits.
Shashank let out a laugh. "Hmmm, you are right beta…The only difference is that you have to work under my administration now," said Shashank.
"Yes Papa and that is exactly why I am nervous," she replied.
"Don't worry…Be confident and everything will be alright… I know my daughter will make me proud of her talent," said Shashank while resting his hand on Riddhima's.
"So are you ready to go," said Shashank as he got out of the chair.
"Yes Papa…Let's go," she said with a smile on her face as she hugged her mom and nani and got their blessings.

SANJEEVANI LOCKER ROOM
"Yeh Atul aur Anjali kitne lucky hai na," said a tired, worn-out Muskaan while sitting on the bench. The wedding had been exhausting for everyone, and signs of sleep-deprivation were evident on all of the intern's faces.
"Kyun," asked Rahul surprisingly while he put on his lab coat, noticing Muskaan's tone. "Tujhe bhi shaadi karke, honeymoon pe jana hai?," he added teasingly.
"Abbe mere saath behas maat shuru kar…mujhme abhi himat nahi hai ladne ki…" she said while rolling her eyes. "Atul aur Anjali lucky hai kyun ki shaadi kar ke unko chuti tho naseeb hui hai," said Muskaan while shifting her posture to lay down on the bench. "Aur idhaar mein hoon jo neend pane ke liye taras rahi hoon," she added while closing her eyes and folding her hands together underneath her head.
"Sirf tu nahi, hum sabko neend ki zaroorat hai," said Rahul as Armaan entered the locker room and made his way to his locker.
"Lagta hai, kisi ki bhi neend poori nahi hui," said Armaan as he noticed Muskaan trying to catch up on some sleep before duty started and small signs of weariness on Rahul's face.
"Hmm…neend kaisi poori hogi jab hum soye hi itni dair se ho shaadi ki wajas se," said Rahul closing his locker.
"Yeah, I agree…Even I wanted more sleep and didn't wan't to wake up in the morning," said Armaan as he grabbed his labcoat and slipped his muscular arms through it. Armaan thought about the beautiful reason for not wanting to wake up in the morning, and slowly came back to reality realizing that it was almost time for duty as he glanced at his watch.
"Get up Muskaan," Armaan shook her shoulders. "Ab hume neend bhula ke kaam kar na parega…Since Atul and Anjali have left for a holiday, we have to work twice as hard in their absence…And you know mom…so get up." As soon as Armaan brought up Keerti, Muskaan opened her eyes wide and sat up on the bench forgetting her sleep. "Yaar tu hamesha mujhe aapne mom ke naam se darra de tha hai," she said adjusting her labcoat as she got up while Armaan chucked. "Ab chale warna Dr. Keerti se daant pari gi," she finished while leading the way out of the locker room.
NURSE STATION
"Good Morning Doctors," greeted Dr.Keerti as she walked toward the three interns who stood waiting for their duty to be allotted to them.
"Good Morning Dr.Keerti," Armaan, Rahul, and Muskaan responded curtiously.
"Since Dr. Atul and Anjali are on vacation and we are short of two doctors, you three will need to work dedicatively and put a lot of effort in each of your cases…There are a lot of patients in the hospital and a few doctors…is that understood?" Keerti said glaring at each one of them.
"Yes Mam," they all replied.
"Meri neend to gayi," muttered Muskaan under her breath, "Patani kab neend naseeb ho gi mujhe," she sighed. Armaan heard her and shook his head lightly. He had warned her several times about his mother's anger but Muskaan would never mend her ways.
"Aap ne kuch kaha Dr. Muskaan?" asked Keerti glancing up from her file and looking toward Muskaan.
"Nnnn—No mam," Muskaan said stuttering while Rahul and Armaan tried to suppress their laughter.
"Good…We'll let me assign you all your duties…Dr. Rahul you will be in Children Ward …Dr.Armaan you will be in General Ward and Dr. Muskaan your duty is in OPD…is that understood?"
"Yes," they all replied looking towards Dr. Keerti. They each gathered their case files and began to read them.
Just then Dr. Shashank entered Sanjeevani with Riddhima behind him. "Quick, shift him to General Ward," yelled Dr. Shashank as the ward boys carried an injured man on the stretcher.
Dr. Shashank made his way to the nurse station with Riddhima walking behind him.
"Good Morning Sir," said Dr. Keerti as he approached her.
"Good Morning everyone," he replied, "Dr. Keerti there was an accident on the way and therefore Riddhima was late…I shifted the injured man to General Ward… he has minor wounds and I want someone appointed on the case right away," he finished off as Keerti nodded. Dr. Shashank knew that Keerti hated when her interns didn't arrive on time and he clarified the purpose to why they were late.
At the instant Dr. Shashank took Riddhima's name, Armaan glanced up from reading his case file and looked towards him suprised to see Riddhima standing there dressed in a blue churidaar suit. A smile formed on his face, and his dimples began to set in as he looked at Riddhima admiringly. She looked beautiful with her long, silky hair opened and flowing past her shoulders, her eyes expressing a lot of emotion, and her wide smile giving rise to her cheeks. Armaan stared at her intently; she was wearing minimal make-up yet she looked so pretty—there was a certain glow to her face.
"Yes, Sir," Keerti replied as Dr. Shashank left towards his cabin leaving Riddhima standing there with all the other interns.
"Welcome Dr. Riddhima," said Keerti with a smile on her face, "Interns, I forgot to mention that Dr. Riddhima is also an intern and has transferred from the Sanjeevani branch in Delhi to accompany us."
Rahul and Muskaan smiled at Riddhima. Riddhima had already mentioned to them that she was going to be joining them today so they weren't surprised like Armaan was.
"Dr. Riddhima, I'm sure you don't need a tour of Sanjeevani," Keerti said while handing her a pager and her labcoat, "I'm assigning you to the general ward with Dr. Armaan to the emergency case Dr. Shashank just described."
Riddhima looked toward Armaan who was smiling at her, and she smiled back. Riddhima really didn't need a tour of Sanjeevani since she had a photographic memory. She had been coming here since childhood and she remembered everything very clearly.
Armaan, on the other hand, was happy that Riddhima had duty in the General ward with him.
"Yes Mam," replied Riddhima.
"Dr. Riddhima if you need any assistance then Dr. Armaan will help you." "Now you all may go to you respective duties," Keerti said as she left.
"Welcome Riddhima," said both Muskaan and Rahul as they walked towards her to give her a hug.
"Thanks guys," said Riddhima with a smile on her face—making her face glow all the more as she pulled out from the hug.
"Well, I think we should go to our duties and we'll meet up at lunch time in the canteen," said Rahul. Upon receiving a nod from Riddhima, Muskaan and Rahul went to their respective centers while Armaan came towards Riddhima.
"Hi Riddhima," said Armaan as he held out his hand for a shake.
"Hi Armaan," she replied back, with a smile on her face as she hesistantly took hold of his hand.
"So you never told me that you were going to be working at Sanjeevani," said Armaan as both Riddhima and him walked towards the General Ward.
"Hmmm…I guess I wanted to surprise you," she said as she looked towards him and flashed him a cute smile. "Itna to haq banta hai mera…" She stopped, registering the words she had just spoken out loud. 'How did I just say that…I have no right on him—He is no one to me…How could I just say that with so much ease…How could I just create my right on him as if he was my own,' she thought in her mind.
Armaan was melting on the inside. 'She feels that she has a right on me---is that supposed to be a good sign..Does that mean that she feels the same way I do…' his thoughts were interrupted by her hesitant voice.
"Wo…Wo..I mean you have helped me quite a lot in the short span of time that we have known each other…Right from our first encounter at the airport…So, of course I had a right to surprise you," she said with a weak smile on her face as she made up an excuse.
Armaan smiled. "Hmmm…isn't it funny how first we bumped into each other at the airport, then I saved you from falling at our second meeting at the shaadi, and now we're going to be working as intern collegues at Sanjeevani…Lagta hai kismat mein humare bar bar milna likha hai," he said as he chuckled. "You're right," she replied back as she chuckled lightly, entering the general ward. Although Riddhima was trying hard to brush away the fact that she loved him, she couldn't deny the fact that destiny indeed had something in store for them. Her mind and heart were in a constant battle with each other—while her mind told her to keep her distance from Armaan and remain as friends; her heart always aroused feelings of love within her. It couldn't be a mere coincidence that she and Armaan kept on meeting each other… there was something definitely to it. 'Maybe it was God's wish after all,' she thought in her mind, 'Only time will tell.'
Riddhima brushed away her thoughts and got busy with the emergency case she had been assigned to. The injured man only had minor bruises. Riddhima got the gauze and started wiping the blood that flowed from the wound while Armaan got busy attending some other patients in the ward. Riddhima injected an anesthetic drug into the man's veins and began to stitch the wound after cleaning it up and sterilizing it. Armaan, who was busy reading a patient's case history nearby, glanced up and saw Riddhima working dedicatively. Her bang flew in front of her eyes, bothering her, but she continued stitching the man's wound. Armaan felt a sudden urge to go up to her and put the lock of hair behind her ear, however, by that time Riddhima had finished stitiching and took off her gloves to go to the washroom.
Enjoy this song, "Chayya hai jo dil pe," from the movie 'Dil Hai Tumhara', as it sums up Armaan's and Riddhima's emotions as they both studied each other secretly while doing their duties.

Everyone was busy in their respective duties. At lunch time, Armaan came up to Riddhima, who was occupied giving medication to a patient after checking the charts, and asked her if she wanted to accompany him to the canteen for lunch.
"Do you want to go to the canteen…hmm…for some coffee?" asked Armaan as he stood behind her.
"Hmm…coffee?," she said turning around to face him, raising her eyebrows with a smile forming on her face.
"Yeah coffee," he replied back, puzzled by her expressions.
"Nothing more," she asked, with the smile still stuck on her face.
"Hmmm…I get it…," replied Armaan, shaking his head while his lips curled into a smile. "You're tired of just having coffee with me…I see…," he chuckled as he remembered having coffee with her at the airport lounge, "Well, I guess if you're really that hungry, then we could grab something to eat also while we are at the canteen," he finished off.
Riddhima chuckled lightly as she remembered sitting in the airport lounge sipping on coffee, with a stranger who had become more than just a stranger at this point of time. "I was just messing with you," said Riddhima shaking her head, " I have no problem with just having plain and simple coffee with you as you are a good company to be with…but if you insist then maybe I'll order something to eat also." Riddhima knew that she needed to stop blushing whenever she was around Armaan and needed to appear more confident. 'I need to act friendly' she said to herself as they both laughed, walking out the general ward, making their way to the Canteen.
Riddhima tried to analyze Armaan's behavior as they sat in the canteen, opposite from one another, munching on their sandwiches and sipping their coffee. In these three days, she had noticed that Armaan was a relaxed and a carefree guy. 'He's quite charming and I'm sure that he's been through quite a lot of relationships…Maybe I'm overanalyzing things to much…Just cause he is acting super friendly with me doesn't mean that he feels the same way I do… I bet he acts that way with all girls, and I'm not an exception. I should keep all my emotions aside before coming to conclusions,' she sighed, 'I can't pull myself into another relationship and in return have my heart broken once again.'
She was pulled out of her thoughts as Armaan snapped his fingers in front of her eyes.
"Kya hua," he asked with concern, "Are you okay."
"Oh…yeah I am fine…no need to worry," she answered back as she put the coffee cup to her lips.
"Well, I was asking you why didn't you start your internship year at this Sanjeevani like Anji…Why Delhi," he questioned, looking towards her. Her face became blank. Old memories with Karan flashed in front of her eyes, rendering her speechless. Armaan noticed her expression change. 'Did I do something wrong by asking her that question…Maybe I shouldn't have asked her such a personal question…What would she be thinking about me…After all I have no right to know about her personal life,' he thought.
Armaan cleared his throat and decided to speak up when he sensed Riddhima's discomfort at that question. "I'm sorry…I don't think I should have asked you such a personal question," he said with an apologetic look on his face, as he put his hands on top of her's on the table. "I hope you are all right."
Riddhima felt his hands creeing up on top of hers. A chill ran through her spine. She looked up at him and saw his eyes—truly expressing regret for even asking such a question. His small, caring gesture slowly formed a smile on her face. His small gesture meant the world to her---It sent her to another world. Riddhima felt like pouring out all the grief she had kept in her heart to this man, who had undoubtedly affected her in some way or the other in this short span of time she had known him.
"No….No, it's not like that…," she hesitated looking toward his face, "You don't have to apologize…Actually, the reason why I didn't join this Sanjeevani was because----,"
"BEEP BEEP*, rang Riddhima's pager. She stopped, unable to continue her story and reached down into her labcoat pocket and grabbed her pager out. "Sorry, I have to go…Got to get discharge papers ready for that patient of mine," she said as she got up, "I'll talk to you later."
Armaan saw her walk out of the canteen and thought to himself. "Something is definitely wrong…When I asked her that question, it seemed like all the color drained away from her face…There is a major reason why she went to Delhi, he concluded, "I can sense it…and I will find out one day or the other."
Armaan heard a scream from the corridor as he made his way out from the canteen after finishing up his coffee.
"DR. KEERTI!!"
Armaan rushed out in panic and stood there shocked at the sight in front of him. A swarm of nurses and wardboys stood huddled around a person's body on the floor. As he stepped closer, he was stunned to see his mom lying unconscious on the floor on Riddhima's lap.
"MOM," he yelled out loud.
