Chapter 1: Birthday woes

As the clock struck Dot at 00:00 hrs on the night of 26th April changing the moments of the sands of time a new day had begun with it.

27th April 2008 & Neha had turned 22, she was smiling as she read a SMS sent to her at midnight wishing her a happy birthday & a wonderful life with some beautiful lines by her best friend Jessica.

She was quite happy to read the greetings n SMSed her friend right back thanking her for the wishes & slept with a smile on her face & a dream in her eyes.

At 8'O clock she was awakened by her mom, Jaya to wish her on her birthday n to tell her that her father Mr. Deepak Kotak, had called up from Bangalore to wish his daughter on her birthday

she woke up n hugged her mom as she wished her & took the phone to talk to her father who was away on a business trip & couldn't be there to wish her personally.

N: good morning papa

D: good morning sweetheart n a very happy birthday

N: thx papa aap kaise hai?

D: I m fine beta so tell me what do u want from here as a birthday gift from here?

N: oh papa anything that u bring will be fine

D: hmm that's ok but I remember the last time I got u a dress from a trip u made such a face looking at it that I can never forget besides u never wore it so it will b better if u just tell me what do u want

N: papa I didn't mean to do that really maar mujhe woh dress bilkul acchi nahi lagi thi toh main kya karoon? How can I wear something that doesn't even make me wanna look at it?

D: ok its fine par ab toh bata ki tujhe kya chahiye?

After a bit of thinking she finally said: papa mera PC ab purana ho Gaya hai n I want a new one

D: a new PC? I think a dress would have been better; it would have been lighter on my pocket

N: papa

D: ok baba ok main mazaak kar raha tha u'll get a new PC

N: oh thx papa love you

D: love u 2 beta n once again happy birthday

As soon as Neha was done talking to her father on the phone that she was nearly attacked from behind as a tall, slender guy almost jumped on her hugging her from the behind,

It was her mischievously naughty younger brother Pratik (Harshad Chopra aka Prem of Kis desh Main hain mera dil) who was just waiting for the opportunity to harass n wish his beloved elder sister Neha.

Being 4 years younger to her he was a brat & loved to irritate her as much as he loved her.

P: happy birthday Di

N: nalayak (that was what she called him) tune mujhe darra diya as she pulled his ear

P: di mera kaan chhod it hurts

N: achha jumping on me is fine n pulling your ear isn't

P: ok, ok but leave my ear I m sorry

N: fine par pehle mera gift

P: what gift?

N: huhh what gift? Aaj mera birthday hai woh gift

P: par woh to main nahi laya

N: nahi laya toh main bhi kaan nahi chhodungi

P: par tu bhi toh mujhe mere birthday par gift nahi deti bas kehti hai mera aashirwad hi meri gift hai kanjoos

N: main kanjoos hu lekin kya karoo tere demands mujhe kangaal kar denge after all aapke kharche kuch kam hain janaab

P: ok thik hai thik hai magar jyada zor se mat bol warna mom ne agar suna toh woh bhi subah subah shuru ho jayegi pls

N: thik hai toh mera gift de

P: achha deta hu deta hu par mera kaan toh chhod

He went to his room n gave her a neatly gift-wrapped item.

As soon as she opened it Neha loved it, it was a pretty leather big bag that she had seen just 2 days ago in the mall n had loved it but since she had not got that much money on her at the time couldn't buy it n when she went later it was sold.

The bag was purchased by Pratik who happened to notice Neha n Jessica in the mall n saw his sister loved it, but didn't bought it.

{If being a girl you don't have fetishes it's an unforgivable sin 😆}

Neha like every other girl in this world was also full of her share of fetishes at which bags, watches, earrings & shoes topped the list. She loved to collect em.

If there was someone who very well knew Neha & her choices other than Jessica it was her brother, happy with the gift she hugged him & asked him how he knew that she had liked this bag.

P: I was in the mall with Karisma di (his new girlfriend) n the 2 chatted 4 a while.

The day went by as usual and Neha was sweating it out in the scorching Mumbai summer in her vacations. In the evening Jessica came n hugged Neha wishing her & giving her a huge birthday card similar to what Neha had given her a day before along with a small gift of a pair of beautiful earrings that she had purchased for her as a surprise secretly slipping away in the mall as Neha was in crossword.

A small celebration took place after which everyone except Jessica left, both went for a little walk & started talking like always on their daily after dinner walks about their day & their lives.
