Chapter Sixteen
"Have a nice time" Kripa wished embracing Ridhimaa. Kripa had promised to see Ridhimaa off at the airport for her six day honeymoon. Kripa could see the glow on Ridhimaa's face. She was the same woman who was her best friend but there was something more now, something different. Her smile looked bigger than ever, the blush still existent on her face just with different means. Her big expressive eyes shone with happiness, her eyes flooded with joy. Kripa smiled at her blissful for her best friend. Just the feeling of knowing Ridhimaa was now a married woman made Kripa feel tingly. She felt the absence of her other half, the one who would fuse her cheeks with blush. She smiled to herself and parted from Ridhimaa.
"Thanks" Ridhimaa replied timidly
Kripa grinned then turned her attention towards Angad. Angad had tagged along getting some time with his friend. Since her uncle had arrived he hadn't really gone to her house like he always did. Her uncle's presence was like Hitler's presence to him. He could just envisage her uncle holding a rifle ready to shoot him. He shook his head in attempt to avoid the disturbing image and embraced Armaan wishing "good luck"
Armaan smirked looking satisfied as ever as he stole mischievous glances towards his love. Ridhimaa's eyes lowered the instant her husband's eyes fell on her. It had been two days since they were married and Armaan left no chance to make her blush. If he was close his touch would do the job otherwise his eyes were enough for her to turn red head to toe "Thanks" Armaan answered. He patted Angad's back "so?" he started "when is it your and Kripa's turn?" he asked
Kripa's creamy skin flushed while Angad choked hearing the unnecessary question "there's nothing between us Armaan" Kripa muttered
Armaan grinned "I can see with the looks of it" he pulled his giggling wife closer "I hope you don't deny when we're back" he winked "Any way's I'm off. My next few days are very busy so I expect no phone calls from anyone" he warned and ambled towards the security check after saying his goodbye's.
Angad and Kripa stood next to each other in uncomfortable silence. There avoiding eyes turned to glance at each other, only to be caught. Angad scratched his head like a fool whilst Kripa simply looked away "Umm, so shall we go?" Angad asked
"Yeah" she answered walking forward. Angad followed her closely, questioning his mind over and over again exactly why he found it so uncomfortable to answer Armaan's questions when it could be shunned as a simple joke. They reached his Audi R8 and stopped not knowing what to say. Kripa turned around spoke quickly "don't take what Armaan said seriously"
Angad looked down at her evading eyes "same to you" he answered huskily and walked to the driver's seat leaving Kripa stunned. He was somewhat hurt with her comment but ignored. They were friends; he couldn't let such things get between them.
She wasn't taking Armaan's sayings seriously Kripa told herself and sat next to him choosing to simply avoid the uncomfortable topic.
Angad walked into his room whistling to find Abhi sitting on his bed throwing cushions at Ayush who sat on the floor. If this had happened a weeks ago then he would be gnashing his teeth in frustration ready to blow but he surprised himself by smiling at the two small boys who were messing his room up.
He walked inside tossing his keys on the dresser. He lifted Abhi to his feet and sat down placing Abhi on his lap "What are you two doing?"
"Playing" Abhi answered trying to grab another cushion
Angad laughed and pulled him up, standing him on his lap "Playing with cushions?"
"Yeah" he turned his head towards Ayush "Ayush told me not to come into your room. He kept and pulling me so I hit him with the cushion"
Angad glanced at Ayush and spoke "then that's not called playing. It's called hitting. You shouldn't hit him"
Abhi frowned but said "sorry"
"It's ok" Angad smiled "say sorry to Ayush, not me"
He let Abhi down his lap and watched him pat Ayush's head saying "sorry"
Angad smiled and sat on the floor next to Ayush "you still don't trust me, do you?" he mumbled. Ayush looked down "I'm sorry Ayush, I know I've been the worst uncle anyone could get but I still ask for a chance?" he looked into his eyes pleadingly "Will you give me a chance?"
Ayush looked up into his uncles honest eyes and smiled "I will if you and dad stop fighting"
Angad looked away "Your asking for something I can't give you" he looked down at Ayush "I can't forget what your fathers done to me and still does" he whispered
Ayush looked at him mystified "what has dad done?"
Angad smiled and patted him "your too small to understand. You'll understand when your bigger"
Ayush looked down disappointed but immediately stood up in fright on hearing his father's voice. Abhi and Ayush hadn't told Aditya about their new bonding with Angad. Abhi was too small to understand why but Ayush was scared of his reaction. He didn't want a negative reaction so he kept it away from his father.
Aditya caught sight of Ayush looking frightened in Angad's room. Anger took over him. How long would he tolerate after all. Angad always found one way or the other to disturb him. He never spared Sanya when he saw her and he was still frightening his children. Aditya burst into the room shouting "what is your problem?" Angad looked at him bewildered "You don't spare a chance to cause trouble, do you?" Aditya took Ayush's arm "Can't you just stay without causing trouble. For god sake Ayush and Abhi are kids. How cruel can you get?"
Angad's jaws tightened in fury. He stood up "I'm not here to listen to your stupid lectures; if you want to give me lectures then get out" he said pointing towards the door.
Aditya's fist tightened "If this house is yours, it's mine too and Ayush and Abhi are my children. You have no right to shout at them. You can't share them like you've shared this house" he pulled Abhi's hand and turned to leave
"There my nephews. I have a full right on them. You can't do anything about it" Angad growled taking Ayush's hand.
Aditya turned and glared "if you don't take me as your brother then you have no relationship with my son's" he roared pulling Ayush's hand and marched out of the room leaving Angad enraged but saddened.
Kripa wiped the tears escaping her eyes. She had just dropped her uncle and his family to the train station. She sure was going to miss them. The house would seem so empty and silent with them gone. She paid the taxi driver and walked up the stairs to her apartment.
She was surprised to find Angad at her doorstep. He was always there but since her uncle had come he didn't come properly. He always informed her before coming. She stepped closer and noticed his swollen red eyes. Her footsteps quickened seeing his tear clad eyes.
Angad watched her walk towards him. He swallowed hard and embraced her suddenly wanting to seek comfort through his best friend's arms. His arms encircled her tiny frame, his head rested in her hair as he cried his heart out. Maybe Kripa was only person he could cry in front. He didn't feel like a fool crying in front of her. He felt it was the right thing to do.
Meanwhile Kripa felt tingling sensations through her body with the close body contact. Her skin flushed under his arms as he cried. Ignoring the tingling sensation she tried soothing him brushing her fingers in his hair "Angad, what's wrong?" she felt his arms tighten. She moved back, tilting her head back "what happened?" she asked caressing his wet cheeks.
He blinked his eyes suddenly looking confused "I don't know" he said "I don't know why I was crying. I just felt I needed to cry"
Kripa sighed and hit his head "you scared me" she turned towards the door unlocking it "come inside and tell me why you were crying. I want an answer this time" she escorted him inside and settled next to him after giving him a glass of water "now tell me, what happened?"
He looked down "I don't know" he paused then looked up "I fought with Aditya this morning"
"I see" Kripa raised her brow "why?"
"Ayush and Abhi were playing in my room. He saw them and thought I did something to them. He accused me of causing trouble with the kids. I got angry and fought back"
Kripa looked towards him "Angad you shouldn't have fought back" she mumbled "I know Aditya was wrong for shouting at you but it doesn't mean you go answering back. You don't want to be the same" he opened his mouth to retort but was cut off "I know you have a short temper" she stated "but Ayush and Abhi were probably there as well. What impression will it bring on them?"
"I--I just can't help it Kripa. He just says things to me and then ignores me. I just can't keep my temper in check"
"Try to" she said "and now smile and go wash your face. You don't want anyone else knowing you were crying"
He smiled "Thanks" he took her hands in his "I needed that" She whacked him hard on the arm "hey what was that for?" he complained
"That's for scaring the hell out of me" she answered "you jumped on me as soon as I came"
He grinned "I know you didn't mind" he kissed her cheek "where's your uncle?"
"They've gone. I just dropped them back"
"Great" Angad squeezed her in his arms "now I can come every day"
"No you can't" Kripa giggled "I won't let you in all the time"
"Then I'll have to barge in"
"Yeah right" she laughed while he continued teasing her.
"Why do ask?" Sanjeeda questioned
"Just. I've got a friend who has two brothers fight because of a misunderstanding. What do you think she should do?"
"Well I'd personally lock them up in a room together"
"No, not the right solution. They will end up killing each other. What else can be done?"
"Other than that just talk to each one separately. Convince each one of them that the other one thinks positively about them. It's a movie trick "
"Hmm it might just work"
"By the way which friend is this?" Sanjeeda asked mischievously
"No one" Kripa answered standing "I'm going to go if you start teasing me"
"Ok, ok sit down" she pulled her hand "So, how's your headless groom?" she spoke teasingly
"Sanjeeda" Kripa whined. She scooped Hayaa in her arms and walked out of her room saying "you're not getting her back until you stop teasing"
Sanjeeda grinned "no problem for me. Gives me a day off"
Kripa rolled her eyes and settled in the living room playing with baby Hayaa, Sanjeeda joining minutes later.
Kripa ambled into the children's room to baby sit. Abhi smiled widely while Ayush looked somewhat relived. Kripa could see the signs of stress. He was upset and she knew exactly why. She placed her purse on the bed and sat in front of Ayush, taking Abhi in her lap "How are you?" she asked concerned. Ayush looked at her with flooding eyes. She placed Abhi aside taking Ayush into her arms "it's alright baby, don't cry" Kripa spoke softly caressing his soft brown hair "it will be alright"
Ayush continued weeping clutching onto her "why do they always fight?" he spoke between sobs "There always-fighting" he hiccupped "why can't they stop fighting?"
Kripa caressed his back sensitized. The poor soul was only seven and he was going through so much" Shhh Ayush" she rubbed his back "just prayer to god that they stop their arguments, crying won't get you anywhere" she kissed his temple and pulled him apart "You're a strong boy Ayush. Don't become weak now" she wiped the streaks of tears "they will be just like you and Abhi one day, it's just not now. Time will heal" she kissed his forehead "smile, I don't like your tears" He smiled slightly but his lips shivered "Don't force a smile, smile truly" he eventually smiled and cuddled Kripa "now tell me, are you alright?"
He nodded "dad and uncle were fighting again. I like uncle but I don't like it when he fights" he confessed "he seems like the bad man he use to be when he was all mean and nasty" he looked into her eyes "can you tell uncle to stop fighting? He listens to you"
Kripa smiled "I can tell your uncle but he's stubborn, worse than a child at times. I'll tell him but it will take time Ayush. Your uncle doesn't understand things quickly, so be strong and bear the arguments. Just think that one day your dad and uncle will be like you and Abhi, think positively"
He looked towards her nervously "what if they never stop fighting?"
She cupped his cheek "Have trust in god Ayush. If you wish sincerely then god will answer your prayer"
Abhi climbed onto her back "where is god?"
Kripa smiled "in our hearts" her hands lifted to her own heart "if you believe in god then he is always with you"
Abhi looked around and then down at his tiny chest peeping inside his shirt "I can't see my heart?" he complained.
Kripa and Ayush giggled "your heart is inside your body" Ayush informed
Abhi walked towards the mirror opening his mouth wide "I still can't see anything" he whined looking into his mouth.
Kripa stood up and kneeled beside him "your heart is here" she spoke pointing to his chest "and it's not something to see, it's something to feel" she took his hand and placed it on his chest "can you feel anything?"
"No" he answered baffled "how can you feel it?"
"Concentrate" she placed her hand on top of his "can you feel the slight beating of the heart"
He stood still on his spot for a few minutes then finally let out a cheerful shout on the feel of his beating heart "I felt it" he yelped while Ayush and Kripa smiled at his innocent act.
"What's wrong Sanya? Do you want to share the problem?" Anjali asked sitting next to her
Sanya nodded and then paused "Why does Angad hate me so much?" she questioned after minutes of silence
Anjali stared at her questioning eyes speechless. She didn't know herself "I don't know. Maybe he doesn't hate you, you just think he hates you"
"He does hate me" she cried "he always shouts at me. He even said he hates me"
Anjali tried to calm her placing a hand on her shoulder "He's like that. He hates everyone"
"No he doesn't. He only hates me" she bawled "your only telling me that because I'm ill" she pulled her shoulders away "I know I'm ill"
"You're not ill" Anjali spoke taking her arms "You're perfectly fine"
"Stop lying to me" she bawled "Why do you come then? I know I'm ill" she pushed her hands away pulling her knee's to her chest "leave me alone"
"I'm your friend Sanya. You're not ill. You're perfectly fine"
"I said leave me alone" she screamed. She screamed and shouted breaking into another fit. Anjali managed to hypnotize her, pushing away the hidden woman in Sanya and walked out making sure she was asleep.
Aditya rushed to her worried "why was she screaming?" he asked
"Sit down Mr Khanna" Anjali sat in front of him "now tell me, who told Mrs Khanna that she is ill? I warned you before, her mental stability could become worse if she is reminded again and again" she looked towards Aditya "she was shouting because she had another fit"
Aditya looked down guilty "I can stop myself doctor. I can even stop my children but Angad doesn't stop"
"You have to stop him Mr Khanna. Mrs Khanna is getting worse by day for the past few days. The little progress we made is pointless if this is what's going to happen in the end"
"I can't" he spoke "I can't. He won't listen to me, no matter how much I try. I've given up on him" he whispered
Anjali sighed "Mr Khanna, you're going to have to do something. Mrs Khanna is reacting to his behaviour and it isn't positive. If you want her to be her old self you're going to have to take some action"
"I'll try my best doctor but I can't make promises"
"You're going to have to stop all this Angad" Kripa spoke "do you know how upset Ayush was? He started crying"
Angad looked down guilty "I couldn't help it"
"Angad" she sat next to him "look at me" when he didn't she held his cheek forcing him to "Do you love Ayush and Abhi?"
"Of course I do but it wasn't my fault their dad came and—"
"Listen to me before saying anything" he frowned "for the sake of Ayush and Abhi please stop fighting. For now Ayush cries when he's upset or he keeps it to himself but when he grows up he won't do that. He'll react. The outcome can be anything, good or bad"
Angad held his head "I don't know what to do Kripa?" he looked towards her "My brother's ignorance has made me a different person. I just can't turn back and be the same person anymore I don't know what I've made of myself"
"What you are is a question only you can answer. Time stays long enough for anyone who will use it Angad; you can use your time to change yourself instead of fighting with your brother. So what if your brother did bad to you, it doesn't mean you do bad to him. If you don't want to talk to him, fine, don't. But for now don't argue with him especially in front of the kids. It affects them mentally. There too small to be under so much stress"
"I can't ever be what I was with my brother Kripa. He's hurt me too much to forget"
"Angad try. If you don't want to talk to him don't. Ignore his ill comments and don't react with temper. When you're angry you go over your limits sometimes"
"It's not something that can be controlled Kripa"
"I know but you have to learn to control. It's your temper which has become your arrogance not your self-respect" she sighed "all I'm trying to say is please don't fight in front of the kids and if possible, for their sake, for our friendships sake don't fight at all"
"I can only try, it's not a promise" he informed bringing the topic to an end but he knew it would open again. Kripa wasn't going to let this go easily. She hadn't let anything go yet. She wouldn't leave this chance behind either.
"It's good to see you" Kripa spoke embracing Ridhimaa "you should have told me you were back. I would have come to pick you up"
Ridhimaa smiled "I didn't want to trouble you, besides dad was coming"
"Uncle didn't tell me. I visited him yesterday" she complained
"He didn't want to disturb you Kripa" she plopped onto the sofa "so, How's life?" she asked "what's been happening in my absence"
Kripa sighed "a lot but I want to hear your story first. What did you do on your honeymoon?" she teased bumping her shoulder to Ridhimaa's.
Ridhimaa turned a shade of crimson "what all honeymooners do" she answered
"Oh come on Ridz, how am I supposed to know what honeymooners do?"
"That's why I say get things going with Mr headless groom, you'll find out yourself" she teased
"Angad is not my headless groom" she retorted
"When did I say Angad?"
Kripa looked baffled "you meant that"
"Seems like he's got an impression on you" she pinched her cheek and giggled at Kripa's frown. Soon the two gossiping friends were interrupted by the doorbell "looks like Armaan's here" Ridhimaa spoke
Kripa smiled "it might be Angad" she stood up "he's normally here at this time"
"Oh really?" Ridhimaa said with a hint of mischief
Kripa threw the nearest cushion towards her and rushed to open the door. She was a little disappointed when saw Armaan but smiled "Hey, how was your honeymoon?" she asked escorting him
"Great" Armaan answered occupying the seat next to his dear wife "they were the best days I've ever had" he said kissing Ridhimaa's cheek "How's life been for you?" he asked "get anywhere with your headless groom"
Kripa rolled her eyes shoving the cushion in his face "don't start" she snapped "Ridhimaa hasn't finished yet and you started"
He looked towards Ridhimaa "very good Ridhimaa" he pecked her lips "you're proving you're my wife"
"Armaan" she whined embarrassed
Kripa giggled "I'm here Armaan, keep the romances for later"
He grinned "I wouldn't mind romancing with you"
"Armaan" Kripa whined "you're married and your wife is sitting right in front of you"
"I'm sure Ridhimaa wouldn't mind, would you?" he asked looking towards Ridhimaa
Ridhimaa giggled whilst Kripa shook her head watching the married couple cuddle time to time, making her realize the empty spot beside her.
"Angad how many times have I told you not to say anything to Sanya" Aditya yelled as Sanya wept after being insulted once again "cant you just stay out of our way"
Angad tightened his fist and looked around. He was relieved finding Abhi and Ayush absent from the room "well tell your wife to stop coming in my way" he said sternly trying to keep his anger under control
"Sanya hasn't done anything, it's you. You have a problem with everyone. You couldn't stand me, you couldn't stand my children and then you couldn't stand the presence of any baby sitter for my children. What is your problem? Tell me. Why can't you do anything without shouting?"
Angad's eyes narrowed down as his fists tautened by the second "Well I won't have a problem if she stays away from me. I have to repeat myself over and over again"
"So do I" Aditya retaliated "I've repeated myself for the past nine years Angad. What went wrong? Why have you changed?"
"It's all your fault and it was that woman" he pointed towards Sanya "she's the woman who provoked you and changed you. I was the person I was but it was because of your change I changed" he barked and stomped to his room leaving Aditya mystified. He rushed to Sanya's aid taking her into his arms as he rocked her, soothing her inner wounds.
"Abhi, be a good boy" Kripa spoke running behind him "if you finish your food we can go to the park"
"I don't want it" he answered further "I don't like the green thing. It's like a crocodile"
"Yes but it's not a crocodile" she ran behind him again "come on Abhi. Don't you want to go to the park?"
"No, I'm not going to eat that horrible crocodile. I'll stay at home"
Kripa sighed and placed the plate on the table. She rushed behind him pulling him back with her hands. He struggled in her grip but she picked him up taking him to the table locking him in her arms "this is called bitter gourd not crocodile" she pointed "if you eat it then we can go to the park and maybe have an ice scream as well"
His mouth watered but he still struggled "I don't want to eat crocodile" he whined
"Taste it at least, it's nice" she said holding the morsel to his lips.
Abhi made a face but ate the morsel offered "it's alright" he mumbled "but it's still not nice"
"Abhi" Kripa spoke sternly "eat it. You should eat everything"
"But I don't like it—"
There conversation was interrupted with the shouting from the living room. Kripa looked towards the living room then Ayush "I'll be back" she said leaving Abhi and Ayush to enjoy their crocodile dinner.
Kripa was surprised to find Aditya at home. Angad stood in front of Aditya red with anger, Aditya looking similar "It's not an option at all" Angad growled "I knew she wanted something and now it's clear. She wanted the property"
"Angad" Aditya snarled "leave her out of it. Sanya has nothing to do with this. It's my decision"
"And you're her pet always following what she wants" he retorted
Aditya clenched his teeth "mind your language Angad" his nostrils flared. He picked a few papers from the table and spoke "take them, there all your shares in the property. I can't have you living here anymore if you're going to be rude with all of us. Sanya's turning worse by day because of you. You have a problem with me and my children then why live here. Go find yourself another place. I need peace in this house"
Angad's voice sobered "you've shown me my position Aditya. That's how much you care for me. You don't want me in this house because of that woman. This is the reason why I changed years ago. The woman still isn't satisfied so she wants me out of the house" he raised his voice "I'm not leaving this house and you can't stop me. I have a right on this house. This is where my mom and dad lived. If you have so much of a problem then go find yourself another house" he glared at Aditya and turned to walk out but caught sight of Kripa "you see what I mean when I said he will never change" he swallowed hard and stamped out of the house in anger.
Aditya looked at Kripa questionably "Why did he say that?"
Kripa walked towards him "You've been unfair to Angad" she spoke "People say that time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself" she quoted "I know Angad's been rude to you all these years but you've never known the reason Mr Khanna. The reason was you sir and the reason was time. You've been giving your wife so much importance you forgot you have a brother. You don't realize how much you've hurt him. All I can say is change things before it's too late Mr Khanna. He's drifted away from you enough, don't let him drift away more. You'll lose him" she whispered
