PART 26

Shashank looked at Riddhima. He had never seen his child look so helpless and vunerable. With his eyes, he assured that everything would be okay-for them. But what about him? Ever since Riddhima and Anjali were young, it was drilled into their minds that they would be great doctors. The love angle never even crossed Shashank's mind. He never thought about his children falling in love and boys coming into the picture. It was hard for him to accept the fact that now he would be the second man in Riddhima's life.

S: Beta mein yeh toh nahi keh sakta ke mein khush hoon. Kyunki aggar tum meri jagaa hoti toh samaj sakti ke mujhpe kya beet rahi hai. Kissi bhi baap ke liye yeh pal mushkil pal hota hai jab uski beti kissi aur ki ho jaati hai.

Shashank laughed nervously. He couldn't make eye contact with Riddhima, but looked directly at Armaan.

S: Dekhiye Doctor Armaan, mujhe tumhare saath koi dushmani nahi hai. Haan aapke tattos pasand nahi hai aur kabhi kabhi aapke shararti attitude se problem hai lekin aggar Riddhima ne yeh fesla kiya hai toh bahut soch samaj ke kiya hoga. Aur mujhe uspe bharosa hai. Zahir hai ke aap mera bharosa tootne nahi denge. Jab aap ek lardki ke baap banjayenge toh shayad samaj aajayega. Ek baap pe kyaa beet thhi hai jab uski beti kisi aur ki hojaati hai. Maine Riddhima ko kabhi ek aurat ki nazar se nahi dekha. Woh hamesha meri choti si gudiya thhi. Sabse pyaari.

With a shaking hand, Shashank stroke Riddhima's head.

S: (looking at Riddhima) Beta koi bhi hota na, tabhi mujhe itna hi dukh hota. Tumhara pyaar mujhe baatna nahi aata.

Riddhima gathered all of her strength and hugger her father.

R: Papa, aap ki jagaa koi nahi le sakta. Koi bhi nahi. Aapne mujhe hamesha itna saara pyaar diya. Main kaise bhool sakti hoon?

Shashank laughed nervously at the irony of it all. Suddenly Riddhima has taken the place of a parent and Shashank was the child. Riddhima was comforting Shashank while he had turned into a child needing comforting. It was a role-reversal.

S: Riddhima tum itni samajdaar aur sayaani kaisi hogayi? Apne papa ka khayal rakti ho haina?

Riddhima held Shashank's face in her hands before kissing his forehead. He in turn kissed her on her cheek and laid her back down so that she would be comfortable. Armaan felt awkward and totally out of place. Still, he wished he had the same relationship with his father that Riddhima had with Shashank.

Ar: Doctor Shashank, mein Riddhima ko hamesha khush rakhunga. Use kabhi kissi cheez ki kami mehsoos nahi hogi.

Armaan felt like an idiot saying the things he was saying. Maybe it was his love talking. Whatever he was saying, he meant it. He genuinely wanted Riddhima's happiness.

S: Mein jaanta hoon Doctor Armaan ke aao meri beti ka khaal rakhenge. Mujhe aap par bharosa hai. But I hope you understand what I'm feeling.

Ar: I do sir. Mein samaj sakta hoon.

There was an awkward silence before Riddhima realized what had happened and remembered Jai's plight.

R: Papa, Jai kaisa hai?

Shashank looked at Armaan who was already looking at the floor.

S: Woh theek hai. Tumhari maa uski dekh bhal kar rahi hai. Doctor Armaan apne Jai ko kafi hadh tak chot pochayi hai.

Ar: (still looking at the floor) Sorry sir.

S: Sorry? Aap jhaake Jai ki halat dekhiye. Aggar use kuch ho jaata toh mein apne aapko kabhi maaf nahi kar sakta. Actually, mein aapko samjhana chahta hoon ke mein aur Jai ke papa bahut achche dost thhe. Hum ek hi medical college se graduate hue aur tabse bahut nazdeek thhe. Phir unka dehaant hogaya. Kuch sal baad unki patni, yaani ki Jai ki maa jal basi. Tabse Pia aur Jai mere hifazat mein hai. Jab wouh South Africa chale gaye toh mujhe bilkul achcha nahi laga. Paanch saal tak woh hum se door rahe aur ab wapas aye hain. Aur mein unko phir se khona nahi chahta. Agaar Jai par koi chot pochata hai toh mera khoon khol uthha hai. Lekin, ab baat todi si alag hai kyunki ab aap bhi mere parivaar ka ek hissa hai.

Shashank turned to Riddhima while Armaan listened intently. Shashank had just recognized him as part of his family. He wasnt going to do anything that would upset Shashank anymore.

S: Riddhima, dekho beta. Mujhe tumhare aur Armaan ka rishta se koi problem nahi hai. Lekin, jaise tum jaanti ho, Jai mera beta hai. Uski khushi mein ham sab ki khushi hai. Is liye maine fesla kiya hai ke jab tak Jai ki shaadi nahi ho jaati, phir Anjali ki, tab tak tum logon ki shaadi nahi ho sakti. Abhi tak mujhe Pia ke baare mein kuch pata nahi. Uske liye humare paas waqt hai. Lekin pehle Jai ki shaadi, phir Anjali ki, aur phir tumhari. Can you meet me half way beta?

R: Papa? Jai ki shaadi?! Woh kabhi nahi manega!

S: Aur yeh tumhari aur Armaan ki zimidaari hai. Tum logon ko Jai ko manaana hoga.

R: Nahi papa! Aap samaj nahi rahe hai! Jai sirf shaadi ke baare mein mazaak karta hai. Use shaadi mein koi diljaspi nahi hai. Woh shaadi ke baare mein sochta bhi nahi. Aur agar use pataa chala ke mein uske shaadi ke baare mein soch rahi hoon, toh woh mujhe jeeteji mardalega!

S: Riddhima, zyaada excite hone ki zaroorat nahi hai. Tumhare liye theek nahi hai. Bachpan se usko pata thha ke mein aur uske papa tum dono ki shaadi karaana chahtethhe. Use shaadi se koi aitraaz nahi hai.

R: (feeling defeated) Papa apne kaisi shart rakhdi? Jai kabhi nahi maanega. Woh pyaar nahi karega. Haan use lardkiyan pasand hai, lekin woh kabhi kissi ke baare mein serious nahi thha.

S: Riddhima, mujhe bhi tumse pyaar ki umeed nahi thhi. Lekin tumne pyaar kar dikhaya. Agar sahi lardki aur sahi mauka ko tum dono ne pechan liya, toh kuch bhi ho sakta hai.

After much deliberation, Riddhima decided to accept the position of making Jai fall in love.

R: Theek hai Papa, hume aap ki shart manzoor hai.

Ar: (confused) Manzoor hai? Kya? Tumne mere taraf se haan kaha?

S: (jokingly) Doctor Armaan aap ab apne fesle khud kabhi nahi karpayenge. Ab se aap ki ghulami ke din agaye.

R: Papa, aap mera mazaak urda rahe hai?

S: (jokingly) Nahi! Mein Doctor Armaan ka mazaar urda raha hoon!

Jai laughed and walked out of Riddhima's room after checking on her wounds. He was amazed at how quickly she was healing in a matter of hours. Was it becuase Armaan was by her side? Was it because she was deliriously in love? Whatever it was, Shashank was greatful. He turned around and saw Riddhima's face light up as her hands clasped Armaan's. A strange feeling came over Shashank. It was as if he had already done the kanyadaan, all that was left was the bidaai.

As he walked out, the other interns gathered around him. Shashank already knew what they were going to ask, so he gave his answer.

S: Aap sab fikar mat kijiye, Doctor Armaan kahi nahi jha rahe hain. Maine unhe suspend nahi kiya hai.

A sigh of relief came out of everyone.

R: Excuse me sir?

S: Yes Doctor Rahul?

R: Sir jab aap andar thhe, tab meri didi ka phone agaya thha. Sir agle hafte Punjab mein Baisakhi hai. Aur meri family chahtihai ke mein Sanjeevani se sab ko ghar leke chaloon Baisakhi manaane ke liye. Kya mein sab ko leh jha sakta hoon? Muskaan ki family bhi yehi chahti hai. Aap toh jaante hai ke Muskaan aur mein Patiala mein padosi hai.

S: Well Doctor Rahul aggar aap sab chale gaye toh yahan patients ka dhyaan kaun rakhega?

Shashank saw everyones face fall.

S:...Lekin agar aap sab jaana chahte hai toh mein rokunga nahi. Waise bhi aaj khushi ka din hai. Gupta parivaar mein Doctor Armaan shamil ho chuke hai. Aur ek hafte ke baad Riddhima theek ho jayegi. Lekin Punjab mein no paagalpan, no hungama, ok? Aap doctors hai, doctors ki tarah behave kijiye. Mujhpe aap sab pe bharosa hai isi liye mein ijazat de raha hoon. Aap sab ko ek hafte ki chuti hai. Lekin Patiala ke baad aap sab Lonavla jayenge. Wahan sab checkups karne ke baad aap wapas ayega.

M: Yeh kaisi chuti hai? Kaam karna pard raha hai?

R: (looking at Muskaan) Oye chup kar warna yehi tera gala ghot dunga! (looking at Shashank) Ji sir.

An: Dad, hum andar jha sakte hai Ridzy ko dekhne?

S: Haan aap sab jaaye. Go ahead.

Shashank walked off while Rahul, Muskaan, Anjali, Pia and Atul who had cme back from his secret meeting with Nana, walked into Riddhima's room. Anjali was unable to hold her questions in any longer.

An: Ridzy! Tumne mujhe kuch bataya kyun nahi? Yeh sab kab hua? Meri choti behen ko pyaar hogaya, aur mujhe pata bhi nahi chala?!

Everyone was so surprised at Anjali's behavior. usually she was the one who was calm, cool and collected. She was always so serious about everything. And how she was like a child wanting to know the ways of the world. Riddhima was not amused. The past was beautiful, but heart wrenching at the same time.

R: Please Di, mein purane zakhm ko taaza nahi karna chahti. Puraani baaton ko nahi doraana chahti.

M: Riddhima, hum sab Punjab jha rahe hai! Mere aur Rahul ke ghar!! Agle hafte Baisakhi hai na, is liye!

Ar: Kya? Aur Doctor Shashank maan gaye? Hum sab ko chuti dedi?

M: Oye hero! Yeh sab tera kamaal hai! Unhone hume chuti is liye di kyunki tu ab unka parivaar ka ek hissa ho gaya hai! Ab Doctor Shashank ko din mein taare nazar aane lage hai!

Ar: Ek minute, ek minute! Hum sab Patiala jha rahe hai? Aap sab paagal hai kya? Aapne kabhi Muskaan ke family ke saath do minute bitaye hai? Sab ke sab ek number ke paagal hai!

M: Dekh hero! Mere family pe mat jha. Tu jab mere saath aya thha tab un sab ne tera kitna khayal rakha thha! Yaad nahi?

An: Kya? Armaan tum Muskaan ke ghar kab gaye thhe?

R: (interupting Anjali) Mujhe Patiala nahi jaana.

riddhima doesnt want to go to Patiala...b'cuz of Muskaan's family...and you will get to see some "ahem ahem" scenes soon! riddhima needs to get better...and once she does, armaan and riddhima will try and meet chori chori chupke chupke! but things are gonna get funny...and romantic very VERY soon! Im still building up!
