"Piyush is here to tell u about a phone call which came in ur absence...", Kashish said in an icy cold voice...
"Phone call?...Kiska phone call?", Sujal demanded irritably looking at Piyush...
Piyush opened his mouth to speak but before he could do so, Kashish's voice interrupted again...
"It...was....Manasi...", said Kashish slowly and fixed her gaze on Sujal's face to observe his reaction...
"Manasi?...", repeated Sujal in a surprised voice and turned towards Piyush with his eyebrows raised..."Manasi called?...Kis liye?", he asked him enquiringly...
Piyush lowered his eyes for a brief instant and then looked straight at Sujal and spoke for the first time..."She called to say that she is in Shimla and wants to meet u urgently for something..."...
"Manasi is in Shimla?", Sujal burst out sounding totally astonished...Kashish caught the inflection of surprise in his tone, and mistaking it for excitement, suddenly felt a throbbing pain in her heart...
"Par last time jab baat hui thi, to usne kuch kaha nahi..."...Sujal continued frowning thoughtfully to himself....Kashish felt her face tighten and clenched her fists without realizing what she was doing...So Manasi and Sujal are in such close touch with each other still...she thought painfully...
"She has asked u to contact her on this number....", Piyush said and held out a scrap of paper towards Sujal...Sujal took the paper from him and whipped out his cell from his pocket..."I should call her up abhi...", he murmured more to himself than to anyone else and briskly pressing the buttons on the keypad of his cell, walked out of the room...
Kashish saw him go out of the room with a sinking heart..."Hullo?...Manasi?...is that u?"...she suddenly heard Sujal's voice drift across into her ears from the corridor as he made his way downstairs....Feeling suddenly weak in the knees, she sat down on the bed with a thud...Piyush looked at her for a moment as she sat there staring into space blankly...He opened his mouth to say something, but then changing his mind closed it again...Turning his back towards her, he walked out of the room, shutting the door behind him softly...

Once outside the room, Piyush looked around to see if Sujal was there in the vicinity...but it seemed that he had walked out into the garden while talking on the phone as the side door was wide-open...Piyush quickly walked to his own room, and entering it fastened the lock from inside...He then eased himself on an easy chair and leaning back smiled broadly to himself...
Things were going his way even more rapidly than he had expected...It had been evident from Sujal's attitude today that he had started feeling insecure regarding Kashish...Obviously then even their trip to Bombay had not led to the removal of all barriers between them...His planning with Mudita and his phone call to Kashish seemed to have worked beautifully...
Piyush rubbed his hands in glee and gave a short laugh to himself...It was all so easy...Especially because he knew Sujal and his nature so well... He was well-aware of how possessive Sujal always was of all his things...and this was something more important...his wife and his love...So even the smallest things would be enuf to make him jealous and angry...Not only this, he knew only too well, that Sujal was not one to ask or give any explanations...his ego would prevent him from even confessing his feelings towards Kashish unless he was assured that she felt the same towards him...So in case of any misunderstanding, he would be angry with Kashish, but would be unable to express it in the right way...
Oh Sujal! Ab tumhe samajh aayega ki haarna kya hota hai...Apna hak khona kya hota hai...Saari zindagi main tumse haarta aaya hoon...Har pal...har jagah...har makam par...tum jeette rahe aur main haarta raha...but now no more...I am going to take ur Kashish from u...and make her mine...
And now god also seems to be helping me out...Manasi's sudden and unexpected arrival in Shimla is nothing short of god-sent...Its a golden opportunity and I am going to make full use of it to widen the distance between Kashish and Sujal...Piyush gave a leering grin again and feeling a deep contentment inside, slowly shut his eyes close...

Sujal came back to his room after having finished his conversation with Manasi, only to find it in total darkness and Kashish already in bed...He was surprised momentarily to find that Kashish had gone to sleep so early and then attributed it to the long tiring day they had had...He decided not to switch on the light as it would disturb her and went out quietly to stand on an adjoining balcony...
Sujal looked outside at the moonlit garden and stood there drinking in the night sounds...the sounds of insects trilling...the occasional crackle of a leaf...and the hooting of owls...Hel turned his mind once again to the talk he had had with Manasi...He had felt really worried about her, the minute he had heard about her unexpected arrival from Piyush...He and Manasi had been good friends ever since college...For a while, the friendship had cooled a little, mainly at his initiative, when Manasi had expressed a desire that they become something more than friends...He had been irritated and had shown it to her rather bluntly....She had been hurt and had left for the States...But there, she had met and married a well-settled NRI...and soon afterwards, their friendship had been resumed...Somehow, once she had gotten married,all the earlier constraints had gone away, and Sujal had been able to feel free with her again...He genuinely cared for her now as a friend and she too had made him her confidante on a number of occasions...
Lately, he knew that she had been having some problems with her husband...and this was what had caused him to get concerned about her sudden arrival...His first thought had been that she had finally ended her marriage and had come back home...But thankfully, he had been wrong...Manasi had just confirmed that she had come mainly on some property-related matter...What was more, her husband had accompanied her on the trip, all their problems having been sorted out...She had only wanted Sujal's help in her business dealings while in Shimla....
His talk with Manasi had done one good thing though...it had served to bring about a pause in the mental tumult which had afflicted him since afternoon...Their conversation though brief had broken his chain of thought with regard to Piyush and Kashish, and had left him feeling calmer and in a more reasonable frame of mind...The sharp pangs of jealousy and insecurity had ceased at least for the while , and he was even able to wonder at the intensity of his emotions in the preceding hours....
Its indeed been a long long day...Sujal thought....Emotionally as well as physically...Guess i should turn in too now....In any case, tomorrow, i have to go to office...I bet, things have gotten pretty messed up in my absence...Thus thinking, he turned his back to the starry night and went back to his room...
