CHAPTER 8: DRAAMEBAAZ They say time is the best medicine for any wound. As time moved on, Atuls pain ceased to a numb feeling, leaving no mark. As the happiness of being around the ones he loved made him rejoice more than ever. Before we knew it the old Atul was back. SANJEEVANI CANTEEN (break time) Like every break time there was chaos in the canteen. Mainly due to the noise made by Armaan, Atul, Ray, Aaliyah, Anjali and Riddhima. Sapna as usual, was not present as she was assisting Sameer.
"Armaan stop leaning backwards on your chair" Atul said pulling Armaan's chair so he doesn't fall. "Otherwise you'll fall, like that time when we were 13, remember?"
"Oh yeah" Armaan said scratching the back of his head "That was embarrassing"
"What is this yaar? All the time you 2 are going on about your childhood stories…hamein bhi tau bataon!" Ray said butting in between their conversation.
Aaliyah who had just watched
'Sholay' yesterday and was still in the filmy mood said
"Nahee, iss kutte kamine kau matt batana"
(Hema Malini style) Everybody laughed whilst Atul joined in
"Naach Basanti naach!"
(Gabbar style) This made everybody laugh even more.
Ray, who didn't want to be left out, said
"Nahin Basanti, in kuttau ke saamne matt naachna!"
(Dharmendra style) Anjie who just happened to be in a very happy mood also joined
"Nahee, mein nachungi. Apne Pyaar ke liye nachungi!"
(Hema Malini style) she said putting her hand on her head like a tragedy queen.
"Yeh sab kya hau raha hai? Haaii" Armaan said copying
Amitabh Bachchan Riddhima, who was probably the only sane one at the table right now, looked around at them all and said
"What the heck is going on?"
Armaan, who was sitting next to her turned around and said in true
SRK (Shah Rukh Khan) style.
"Eh eh eh Senorita, bade bade deshaun main aisi chotti chotti baatein hauti rehti hai" Then he said in his normal voice "They're talking to me, because that's what girls do"
Riddhima who was catching the vibe now said
"Mujhe pata hain, Armaan ladkiyon ke peeche nahi, ladkiya Armaan ke peeche baaghti hain"
(Kajol style from Kuch kuch hota hain) "Ohhhh, so Basket's got a new line" Armaan said irritating her
"Ohhh, Superman needs a new line" Riddhima said imitating him.
They all started bickering and making even more noise. Everybody in the canteen were watching them hack each other up.
"
DOCTORS! What is going on here!"
All 6 of them turned around slowly knowing very well who it was.
"Dr Kirti woh hum-" Armaan said but was cut off by her.
"All of you have night duty, it's time you all realise that this is a hospital not a zoo!" She said boiling with anger. Giving them all a killer look once more, she left the canteen.
"Hailaa! I hate nightshift! Abb hum kya kare?" Ray said
Atul who was still in filmy mode stood on a chair, holding a water bottle like he was drunk and said
"Suicide!"
(Dharmendra style) "Uss Gabbar ne hamara jeena haraam kar diya hai" Anjali said.
Dr Shubankar who was heading towards the interns had heard Anjali's sentence and asked
"Yeh Gabbar kaun hai?"
Armaan who had his back towards Shubankar, didn't know it was him and carelessly said
"Woh Dr Kir-" he stopped midway as he saw Ray signalling him to shut up.
Armaan turned around and saw Shubankar standing there. Armaan faked a smile and said
"Sir, woh koi nahin…I have to go mera shift ka time hai. Chalein Riddhima?"
He left with Riddhima before Shubs could say anything. All the interns left as well, one by one; making some rubbish excuse.
Shubankar was left standing there alone saying to himself
"Was he going to say Kirti…oh well she is a Hitler! Ghar pe bhi aur yaha pe bhi"
Atul left the canteen as fast as he could. Luckily his break wasn't over yet so he went out to the locker room to pick up a file whilst thinking about their little dramatic fiasco in the canteen. Just then a cord struck in his mind and he said to himself
"Hey that's not a bad idea"

LOCKER ROOM (nightshift) Aaliyah and Ray entered the locker room taking a break from their nightshift. They were the only ones there. Ray lay down on the bench whilst Aaliyah was going through her locker she picked up her phone and sat down on the other bench. Ray was watching her all this time.
"
My dil goes mmhmmmhhhh" he muttered without realising.
"Did you say something?" Aaliyah asked putting her phone on bench.
"No…" Ray lied.
"Okay, well I'm going to freshen up from the bathroom" Aaliyah said getting up from the bench, without realising that she left her phone there.
Ray watched her leave for the bathroom; he looked at where her phone was lying. A smirk appeared on his face.
"This is gonna be fun" Ray muttered as he picked up her phone and started going through it. whilst he was reading her text messages, the phone started vibrating. On the screen he read
'Bandarya calling'. So he picked it up, being his mischievous self.
"Hello" Ray said. He heard giggling from the other end
"Yo! Teri aawaz ko kya ho gaya? So deeeeeep... Did you swallow a machchar or something?" a girls voice could be heard.
"Main Aaliyah nahi…uska dost Ray hoon" He said
"Ja jaa, phone uthane ka itna shauk hai to ek phone kharid lo apne liye, doosro ke phone uthane ki koi zaroorat nahi hai. Waise meri bakri kaha hai?" She asked.
"Bakri??" aha! He could tease Aaliyah by calling her bakri now. Kya maaza ayega jab woh tere mere shakal banaye gi!
"Oye Bakra, jaldi se Aaliyah di ko phone do! Warna teri to aisi ki taisi!"
"Woh abhi busy hai" He said wondering why on earth was he talking to her "should I take a message?" he asked politely.
"Just tell her I called" she said rudely.
"You must have a name" He said sarcastically "unless bandarya is your real name"
"Just tell her Zainab called" she said angrily and without waiting for him to say anything she put the phone down.
"Talk about rude" Ray said to the phone. And then after a pause, "and weird..."
"Who's rude and weird? And what are you doing with my phone?" Aaliyah asked as she came out the bathroom
Rehaan looked like a scared bachcha who had been caught doing something wrong.

GENERAL WARD Armaan and Riddhima were just finishing off their rounds in the general ward. Every body was asleep, so they only checked the charts.
"We have our break soon, who's taking over the general ward after us?" Riddhima asked Armaan as he finished checking his patient.
"Atul and Anjali…infact they should be coming now" Armaan said look at his watch.
A hushed squabbling could be heard down the end of the ward. Without looking up Armaan and Riddhima both said together
"Here they are"
They laughed and left a bickering Atul and Anjali in the ward. They walked down the corridor but instead of going to the canteen or the locker room; they went to their little hang out area…The staircase.
Riddhima sighed as she sat down on the step next to Armaan. He looked at her massaging her head and said
"Why don't I get you something? You look tired"
He got up as she was about to say something when Armaan cut in
"Yes Basket I know, you only like 2 tsp Sugar and little milk in your coffee"
Riddhima laughed and said
"Of course how could I forget, you know more about me than I do…"
He left to leave when she added "Don't forget to get something for your self"
After 5 mins Armaan came back holding 2 mugs. He was about to give Ridzi her cup when he realised she was asleep, leaning against the wall. A smile played on his lips as he stared at her sleeping peacefully. Strands of her hair were covering her face as she slept. Armaan hesitantly reached forward to move the hair behind her ear. As he did, he thought to himself
Why is it always different when I am around her…I can't be in love, that's not possible… I guess I only wanted to ask her out because she's different to the other girls I have dated and there is a different comfort level when I am around her…But I think it's best I give her some time…maybe I'll give her a couple of hints. Armaan kept staring at her whilst consumed in his thoughts…when he felt the urge to touch her soft cheeks. His fingers stroked her cheek tenderly. As smooth as marble but as soft as a feather; he wanted time to freeze. To sit there forever marvelling at her innocence. Riddhima woke up, Armaan quickly retreated his hand. She rubbed her eyes
"I fell asleep, when did you come?"
Armaan picked up the mugs next to him; luckily they were still hot and said
"Just now" He handed her the coffee, and remembered that he had an important thing to tell her.
"Oh before I forget again…its Atul's birthday, the day after tomorrow. So I was thinking we could have a little get together at our flat. What do you think?" He asked taking a sip of his hot chocolate
"Oh, I completely forgot…That would be fun, I get to see your flat" she said taking a sip of her coffee as well. "Why don't we get a joint present for him, all us interns"
"Yeah that's not a bad idea…we'll talk to the rest" Armaan said finishing of his drink.

ATULS B'DAY
(Midnight) Someone slowly creeped into his room, and started jumping on his bed singing
"Happy birthday to you,
Stick your head down the loo,
Happy birthday, happy birthday
Happy birthday Bhaiyu!!" Armaan screamed pulling the covers off Atul. He was still jumping on Atuls bed.
Atul pushed Armaan off his bed, and Armaan landed on the floor on his butt. Atul got out of his bed, Armaan got up from the floor. Whilst they both hugged each other Atul said
"Armaan tu kabhi nahin sudhrega…you jump on my bed every year!"
"And you push me off every year" Armaan said smiling "Oh let me go get my laptop"
"Oh lemme guess mum and dad on the webcam" Atul said
"Obviously bhaiyu" Armaan said as he brought his laptop from his room. He put it on Atuls desk and they both sat down.
Atul waved at his mum and dad (through webcam)
"Happy birthday Guddu" His mum said as his dad laughed.
"Awww mum atleast not on my birthday" Atul pouted. His dad laughed even more and this time Armaan joined him.
"Guddi beta why are you laughing" Their mum said in disapproval to Armaan. Now it was Atul's turn to laugh.
Their Dad started to speak
"Hey beta Happy birthday! May god always keep you happy and all your dreams come true-"
"Ohhh dad…not this AGAIN!" Armaan cut in "Every year, on both our birthdays. You say the same thing; finds some new lines dad"
"Chupp!" His mum said, whilst Atul's laughing "Aur tum kya hass rahe hau" she said to Atul. Then she turned to Mr Mallik and said
"They are your kids after all!"
Atul and Armaan started laughing even harder
"Acha enough laughing, Atul beta u never told us what gift you wanted" She said to Atul
"Nahi mum, mujhe kuch nahi chahye" Atul said sweetly.
"Mujhe chahiye!" Armaan said excitedly.
"Its not your birthday is it!" Mrs Mallik said to Armaan
"Haa, tau mujhe Atul ka gift dedo" He said cheekily, whilst Atul pulled his ears.
"Tu kabhi nahi sudhrega" Atul said to Armaan "Now I definitely want a gift mum."
They all laughed and joked for a little while, and then said their goodbyes.
As Atul turned off the Laptop he turned around, but Armaan wasn't there. Armaan returned after a while with a big gift bag in his hand.
"Bhaiyu for you" Armaan said handing the bag to Atul.
"Let's see what kind of antic gifts you have got me this year" Atul said chuckling, eagerly wanting to know the contents of the bag.
Every year Armaan always got Atul hatke (unusual) gifts, which Atul cherished the most. Though by age Armaan was 24, but his mind worked like a 4 year old.
Atul opened the gift bag, and took out a T-shirt. It read
'CHAMP' and had a picture of a younger Atul when he had won the Table-tennis championship. Then came 3 pair of bright coloured patterned socks, on each was written 'Bhaiyu', 'Atul' and 'Champ'. There were various other such personalised items, including cufflinks which had the letter 'A' on it.
As Atul looked at each item in detail with love and affection he couldn't control his laughter, whilst Armaan watched his brother eagerly wanting to know his reaction like always, though he knew that most of the items would go in his secret cupboard where he has kept all his previous gifts given by Armaan.
Atul finally finished through all the items and gave a huge hug to Armaan and said "Kitna time laga, ye sab sauchne ke liye??" but before Armaan could answer he said "I love it, I wait for this every year" He said coming out of the hug.
Armaan replied "I know, by the way I have something else for you as well" With that he picked up a small packet from the bed which contained Atuls favourite cologne and handed it to him. Atul looked at it and said "Ab yeh kya hai?" He opened it and smiled.
"Good thing you bought it, it was finishing anyways"
Armaan secretly laughed, as he was the one using up Atuls cologne.
"Okay now go to sleep, we have to get to hospital, in a couple of hours" Atul reminded him looking at the clock…
The mini party in the evening is going to be fun!! Armaan thought.
