PART 46

Nishant, Inspector Han and two other CBI agents sat with bated breaths around a table, with the micro-chip recorder in the middle….it was connected to an amplifier, so they could hear every little sound, every single word!

There was a slight click of the recorder being turned on.
Then the sound of a door opening.

Kanan's voice: Sir, aapney mujhey bulaya tha?

Josh's voice: Yes, come in and shut the door!
Sound of door closing.

Josh (sounding stern) : Take a seat! Now tell me the truth! Sach sach batao, mera beta kahan hai? What have you done with him?

Sir, main aapka matlab nahin samjhi? Mujhey kya pata Prateek kahan hai? Mainey toh kuchh bhi nahin kiya…..mujhey behosh kiya gaya tha….. Kanan sounded defensive, blabbering.

Josh yelled furiously: JHOOTH MAT BOLO! MAIN JAANTA HOON…..YOU ARE INVOLVED IN THIS! BATAO, PRATEEK KO KISNEY UTHAYA?

SIR! Aap mujhpar galat ilzaam kyun laga rahey hain? Un logon ne mujhey behosh karkey Prateek ko kidnap kiya. Mujhey kya pata wo log Prateek ko kahan le gaye?

JHOOTH !!! TUM BEHOSH NAHIN THI….BEHOSH HONAY KA DHONG KAR RAHI THI ….(there was the sound of a chair being knocked down as Josh stood up in rage) …..NEERAJ SHOWED ME YOUR PICTURES IN THE LIFT! TUMHEY PEECHHEY SE KISINEY VAAR NAHIN KIYA….SAB JHOOTH HAI! ALL BL***Y LIES!

Kanan yelled back in severe protest : SIR! AAP MUJHPAR ZYAADTI KAR RAHEY HAIN….EK TOH ITNA BADA SADMA LAGA…..BACHCHEY KO UTHA LE GAYE….USKEY UPAR AAP MUJHPAR ILZAAM LAGA RAHEY HAIN (sob sob, sniff-sniff)….sounds of Kanan crying.
Please Sir! Mera yakeen keejiye, mujhey kuchh nahin pata….mainey un aadmiyon ko dekha bhi nahin. Aur unhoney sachmuch mujhey sar per maara tha….abhi tak dukh raha hai (Uffff)

Toh un logon ne tumhey sar ke upar maara tha? Josh sounded caustic…. Lekin tumney toh kaha tha sar ke peechhey maara? Itni jaldi bayaan badal gaya?

Nahin, Sir! Sar ke peecheey hi maara tha…..ab bhi dard hai ….

Oh Really? Josh sneered…..toh phir sar ke upar kyun barf laga rahi thi? First decide, sar ke UPAR maara tha ya peechhey?

Kanan was silent…..she knew her lies had been caught.
Kanan, I am really disappointed with you! Josh rebuked her bitterly…..tum ek CBI agent hokar gundon ka saath de rahi ho? Batao, kisney tumhey paisey diye? Kisney Prateek ko kidnap kiya? Why did you help them kidnap Sunny? TELL ME! IS IT ZAIB?

Kanan's voice sounded half-sure: Sir! Ho sakta hai Zaib ne hi kidnap kiya ho….

Right then, there were two strong knocks on the room door. Josh muttered softly to himself : That must be Nishant.

[That was Josh's fatal mistake. One must never underestimate one's opponent…..but Josh under-estimated Kanan….he opened the door without asking who it was…..he assumed it was Nishant…and assumption is the mother of all troubles]

Josh warned Kanan: You wait right there! Don't move! ……he got up to open the room door. There was the sound of a door opening. Then a LOUD CRAAASHHH ! Josh had been knocked down by the butt of a gun!

The door closed. The rough, hoarse, deep voice of an intruder: Utha saaley ko aur chair se baandh de.

Josh had been hit hard on his head with the gun….he groaned, rolling on the floor.

[There was another guy in the room, Intruder no. 2 lifted Josh up and put him on the chair….he tied Josh's hands to the chair handles. That's how his body was found later, tied to the chair and shot! ]

Kanan spoke up: Thank God you guys are here! Isney toh meri naak mein dum karkey rakha tha…..Prateek kahan hai…Prateek kahan hai….mera sar kha raha tha….kaafi der kar dee tum dono ne aaney mein….I had called you fifteen minutes ago!

ABEY CHUP SAALI! HUMEIN APNEY BAAP KA NAUKAR SAMAJH RAKHA HAI KYA? The 1st intruder growled at her….HUM APNEY BOSS KE LIYE KAAM KARTEY HAIN, TEREY LIYE NAHIN! JACKO, ISS AGENT SAALEY KO HOSH MEIN LAA…..PAANI DAAL USPAR!

Sounds of water being splashed on a half-conscious Josh…..from the water jug in the room.

UMMMMmmmm! Josh groaning….[he opened his eyes and saw two hard-faced, ugly goons standing over him]

Tum log kaun ho? Kya chahtey ho? He asked slowly.

Hum kya chahtey hain? 1st goon laughed roughly: Hum Zaib ko chahtey hain….BATAA….ZAIB KAHAN HAI? SAALEY NE HUMEIN ACHHA JHANSA DIYA…..BACHCHEY KO CHHEEN LE GAYA HUMSEY!

Kanan shouted: KYAA? PRATEEK TUM DONO KE PAAS NAHIN HAI? LEKIN LIFT MEIN TOH MAINEY USEY TUM DONO KE HAATHON SAUNPA? PHIR KAHAN GAYA PRATEEK?

CHUP BEY CHHOKRI ! AGAR HUMAREY PAAS BACHCHA HOTA TOH HUM WAPAS NAHIN AATEY…..ZAIB KO BLACKMAIL KARTEY….APNEY BETEY KI JAAN PYARI HAI TOH HUMAREY PAAS AAJA…..

Toh phir hua kya? Kanan sounded flabbergasted…..Kisney Prateek ko uthaya? Khera….tumharey Boss ne sirf kidnapping mein madad karney ke liye mujhsey kaha tha….aagey main kuchh nahin kar sakti (Kanan got up and tried to leave the room)

ABEY EYYYYY….KAHAN JAA RAHI HAI? CHUPCHAP BAITH YAHAN….The one called Khera said ferociously….BOSS NE TUJHEY DUS PETI DIYE HAIN…WO KYA SIRF PHOTOS KE LIYE YA BACHCHEY KO KIDNAP KARNEY KA? JAB TAK ZAIB HUMAREY HAATH NAHIN LAGTA…..TU HAMARI BAAT MANEGI, SAMJHI KYA?

[Kanan sat down again meekly….she didn't want to anger the dangerous hitmen of Damodar Pandey's gang…..the most notorious Underworld gang of Upper Mumbai!

Khera turned his attention to Josh….
Josh was glaring at Kanan….his suspicions were confirmed now, he was shocked, he couldn't believe Kanan had sold Angad/Zaib's photos to Damodar's gang…the same gang who had killed Angad's parents, whose hitmen had been executed by Zaib. It was a vicious cycle of bloodshed in the Underworld. Now Damodar had sent men to kill Zaib and avenge his men's deaths>

Khera growled at Josh: BATA SHANEY…..TERI BIWI KA YAAR KAHAN HAI? ZAIB KAHAN HAI? He slammed his fist on Josh's face.

[Josh's nose and lip were bleeding, but he was desperate to know what had happened to Prateek]

Pehley tum log batao….mera beta kahan hai? Kaun le gaya usey? Josh was still alert and questioning.

Khera's sneering laughter: Saaley ki himmat toh dekh….khud qaid hai aur humsey poochh taachh kar raha hai….khair teri aakhri khwaish hai toh hum bata hi detey hain…..sab iss bewakoof Jacko ka lafdaa hai…..terey betey ko lift se uthakar hum pichhu ke darwajey se nikal gaye. Basement ki parking mein gaye….terey betey ko behosh karna pada…bachhua bahut phudak raha tha.

[Josh closed his eyes in agony, hoping Sunny hadnt been badly hurt>

Khera saw that and laughed: Arey, apna bhejaa mat jalaa…tera beta maraa nahin hai….buss ek halka sa dose diya choloform ka.

Kanan asked: Phir kya hua?

Phir gadbad hua, aur kya? Main car leney gaya…Jacko bachhua ko sambhal raha tha…kisiney usko ek tapkaa sar per….saala behosh ho gaya…main lauta toh dekha bachcha GAYAB!

Oh GOD! Kanan exclaimed….Zaroor Zaib ke aadmi hongay….wo Prateek ko uthakar le gaye….ab kya hoga?

[Josh sent a silent prayer of Thanks upto God! Sunny was safe, he didn't have to worry about him anymore, he was with Angad ]

WHACK! Another sound of a punch as Khera hit Josh's face again.
BATAA, ZAIB KAHAN HAI?

Josh spit out some blood from his bleeding gums: Mujhey pata nahin…..I don't know!

Kyun, Agent Chhokri ? Tu toh bata rahi thi isey pata hai? Khera turned on Kanan furiously.

Kanan was on the defensive at once: Haan, mainey apney kaanon se suna…yeh apni biwi se keh raha tha….Zaib zaroor wapas aayega usey leney….isey zaroor pata hoga, nahin toh itna sure kaisey hota?

Arey waah….iski biwi ke baarey mein toh hum bhool hi gaye the…usey zaroor pata hoga Zaib kahan hai….

Kanan piped in: Mujhey nahin lagta Kripa ko pata hai…. ab toh Zaib gaya tum logon ke haath se…ab kaisey pakdogey?

Kyun? Iski biwi hai na? Zaib ki mashuka…. Angad ki biwi….Hahahaha….kya maal hai….ek saath do-do pati ! Chal, iskey biwi ko pakadtey hain….phir toh Zaib bhaagta hua hamarey paas aayega….uska maal jo hamarey haath mein hoga….Khera slobbered at the thought.

Josh flinched and shuddered inwardly at the thought of Kripa at the mercy of those ruthless killers!

Kripa ko kuchh nahin pata….usey bhool jaao tum log…..Josh tried to save Kripa.

Tch tch tch….pata nahin toh kya hua? Teri biwi ka bahut yaarana hai na Zaib ke saath? Usey pakda toh Zaib bhi kaboo mein aayega. Jacko aur Agent chhokri….tum dono upar jaao, iskey biwi ko pakadkey laao….main isko sambhalta hoon….Khera ordered the other two to get hold of Kripa and bring her down.
Kanan and Jackie left for the Suite.

[Josh prayed hard that Kripa wouldn't be found: Please, Kripa….wahan se nikal jaao….get out of there…..get out….and strangely enough, by some telepathic connection, Kripa went out of the Suite and took the lift down to the Lobby exactly at the same time. Kanan and Jacko came down after 10 minutes, looking worried.]

Jacko's strained voice: Khera, wo Suite mein nahin hai….kahin nikal gayi…

Khera turned to Kanan in rage: Kahan gayi wo aurat? KRIPA KAHAN HAI?

Kanan shook in terror: Pata nahin…main toh usey wahin chhodkar aayi thi…shayad Prateek ko dhoond rahi hogi….

JAA, usey dhoondkar le aa….JAA ..MOOH KYA DEKHTI HAI? ! Khera barked out .

Kanan quickly ran out of the room again, relieved to be out of sight of the ferocious killers.

Khera turned to Josh with a snarl: Apney biwi ko phone per bulaa yahan…..he took out Josh's mobile from his pocket and held it near his mouth : CHAL BULAA USEY YAHAN….NAHIN TOH …..(Khera pointed his loaded gun at Josh's head)

Josh of course refused to call Kripa.

Khera hit him again and again….pounding his face with his fist, but Josh silently put up with the torture….except for an occasional grunt or gasp of pain.

Finally Khera pointed his gun in the center of Josh's forehead: Chal, ab apney Bhaggu ko yaad kar, terey upar jaaney ka waqt aa gaya…..BATAAA….KRIPA KO CALL KAREGA KE NAHIN? CALL KAR YA ABHI GOLI SE TERI KHOPDI UDAA DOONGA…

Josh calmly said: Tumhey jo karna hai kar lo….main call nahin karoonga….

Josh had accepted that he was going to die….even if the killers nabbed Kripa (and he desperately hoped they wouldn't) they would never spare Josh….
Josh already knew too much about their plans, he had seen them, talked to them…and most of all, he was a CBI Agent. They couldn't leave him alive as a witness.

Khera threatened again…..pushing the barrel of the gun on Josh's forehead.
THEEK HAI, TUJHEY MARNEY KA ITNA SHAUK HAI….TOH KAR DETA HOON TUJHEY KHALAAS…..lekin yaad rakh…Zaib ya teri biwi hamarey haath se nahin bachengey….

Khera placed the gun on his forehead again. Josh closed his eyes……
his entire life flashed before his eyes….Sunny's cute, innocent face, Kripa's beautiful smile, their little house in Delhi, Sunny playing ball in the garden…..
Goodbye, Sunny betey! Im sorry, main tumhara saath nahin nibha sakaa….tumhey bada hotay dekh nahin saka…..mujhey maaf kar dena! …..Alvida Kripa! Angad ke saath khush rehna! I will always be watching over you and Sunny! Alvidaaa…..

There was a soft PINGG of the silencer-fitted gun being fired….and then silence.
Khera and Jacko slipped out of the room silently after killing Josh, leaving the door open……….ten minutes later, Kripa had entered the room and discovered Josh's body!

Nishant and his agents listened in silent horror, with utter shock to the whole tape.
It was devastating that their own agent, Kanan, had been responsible for Josh's death….she had helped the killers trap him, torture him.

Nishant's face was like stone, deadly and dark as thundercloud…..a pulse beat fiercely in his jaw. He turned to Tony and Neeraj: GO TO THE HOTEL AND ARREST KANAN RIGHT NOW!

Neeraj and Tony ran out at once. Inspector Han sighed and asked Nishant: Agent Saxena, who are these men, Jacko and Khera ? How can we identify them?

Nishant's voice was tight with controlled emotions: They belong to the notorious D-gang….Damodar Pandey's men….they control Upper Mumbai. D-gang are old enemies of Mr. Bajaj and Zaib. They wont escape this time! They killed our agent, my friend! I will hunt them down, wherever they are. But if they are still in HK, I will need your help of course. I will access our Central database in Mumbai and send their photos to you! Put out an APB for them…..I want them dead or alive!

Inspector Han nodded silently, looking sympathetic. Nishant asked the Police to make a copy of the tape and took the mini-recorder with him back to CBI-HQ.

Back in his office, he searched out Khera's and Jacko's photos from their criminal database and sent them to Police HQ.

Then, he finally broke down….he sobbed for his friend, his face covered by his shaking hands….the tape had been heart-rending to hear! Josh had been so brave till the end. He had refused to call Kripa, he had given his life for his love!

Nishant silently saluted Josh: Shabaash Dost, pyaar karna toh koi tujhsey seekhey! I am proud of you! Rest in peace, my friend!

In his secret hideout on Stanley Island, Zaib restlessly paced the room at midnight.

Godfather's Yacht was leaving Hongkong the following day! Prateek was safe and on his way to Bangkok, alongwith Mrs. Mittal and a trained nurse. The kid was still groggy from the effects of drugging, but his fake passport and visa indicated he was Mrs. Mittal's grandson. Nobody had stopped him at the Airport. From Bangkok, they would board a plane for Dubai.

But Zaib was leaving HK on Godfather's yacht. The yacht was supposed to sail to Bangkok, from where they would all board Bajaj's personal Jet to Dubai.
Zaib was extremely worried about Kripa.

Kartik had informed him that Kripa was in the Hospital, in very bad condition! She was in deep shock…she had been the first to discover Josh's body.

Poor Josh….Zaib sighed…..he didn't deserve to die like that! He had taken Zaib's death…..Damodar's killers were here to kill him, Zaib…..but Josh died in his place.

But as far as he knew, the killers were still loose….somewhere in Hongkong. He hoped Kripa would soon be in safe territory….on Godfather's Yacht. He couldn't wait to see Kripa again….".I miss you, Sweetheart! Hang in there….hum dono bahut jald saath saath hongay"

Midnight shift at Saint Mary's Hospital, Hongkong……Overnight patients in the Emergency ward were still lying in curtained-off beds. Kripa was one of them…..deep in drugged sleep, unconscious.

The doors to the Ward opened…..two figures stepped in. One was a very tall man in a white coat, with the tag: Dr. Gupta. The other was a shorter Chinese ward boy in blue uniform.

Dr. Gupta showed a paper to the Night Nurse: Mrs. Kapoor got a room upstairs…shes under police protection. She needs a separate room, we are taking her upstairs.

The Night Nurse nodded after looking through the paper. The ward-boy wheeled unconscious Kripa out of the room, Dr. Gupta walking alongside, holding the rolling I-V stand, checking on her pulse. The doors closed…..they went into the large Hospital Elevator, wheeling in Kripa's bed. But instead of going upstairs, the lift moved down….to the Parking Garage. The lift doors opened, Dr. Gupta and Jimmy wheeled Kripa out to a white Medical van waiting outside. She was lifted alongwith I-V into the Van, the door closed, the Doc and Jimmy climbed into the front seat and drove off into the night. No sirens were heard from the Van…..

kanan that *****!!! she deserves to die!!! a terrible death...with torture!! poor josh!!!!!! 😭 😭 😭 he died trying to protect kripa...so really i hope that kripa isnt with the mob! i pray that she is the hands of godfather's men! and i hope she gets better real soon!!
thank god prateek is alright and with godfather!!!
yea i know i doubted zaib...it was in the spur of the moment!! i feel bad now...but deep down i had a hunch that it wasn't him...but can't rule out all possibilities huh?
can't wait for zaib and kripa to reunite...but that won't last long once kripa finds out the truth
wonderful part!! 😃

OMG!!! i am speechless!!! Josh died!!!! i did not want him to die, as much as i hate him, he was helping Kripa get Zaib!!! i cannot believe he died!!! i was crying, a LOT!!! nd Prateek is away from Kripa, poor her, she has been through sooooo much!!! nd the whole scene where Josh was remembering his flashbacks!!! sooooo sad!!! i never liked Kanan, from the moment she entered, i hated her!!! ughhh!!! nd where is Kripa going!!! i hope nothing bad happens, nd i hope Zaib comes in like the knight in shinning armor nd saves her, lol... also glad tht Prateek is safe!!! anywho, dying to read more, continue ASAP!!!! 😃

p,s, sry cudn't comment earlier, had exams, so was studying alot!!! but i am free now!!! 😊
