Part 9
Adi grasps her hand and they both immediately felt a connection.
They all pile into Adi's Lexus, with Aman, Jhanvi and Malini in the back.
Malini: so Raj, what are you doing here in Toronto?
Raj: I came to start a relationship with Adi for his chain of restaurants and I also came here to patch up with my girlfriend.
Malini: girlfriend?
Raj: ya, my girlfriend Maya.
Jhanvi: really? That's cool, so Adi, what do you do?
Aman: Jaanu? Are you deaf? Raj said he came here to do a business partnership with Adi for his chain of restaurants!
Jhanvi: don't call me deaf! Sorry Adi
Adi: don't worry about it Jhanvi.
Raj: so Malini, what do you do?
Malini: (thinks) God, my name sounds so sexy coming from him!
Malini: I'm a photographer, a fashion photographer.
Raj: interesting, what about you Aman?
Aman: I'm the CEO for DGI Industries.
Adi: oh cool.
Raj: K, we're here
They all get out of the car, and Adi takes Raj's hands and….
Adi: (whisper) we thought only one friend was coming with Jhanvi, what do we do now?
Raj: ok well, Arushi shifted into Maya's room right?
Adi nods.
Raj: then you come to the loft with me, and that leaves three rooms upstairs for them.
Adi: ya, fine that works! So you seemed to be really friendly with Malini…
Raj: no way, there is nothing like that.
Jhanvi: what are you guys talking about over there?
Adi: nothing, here let's go in.
He rings the doorbell and Maya comes and opens the door.
Raj: Maya, meet my sister Jhanvi, and her boyfriend Aman, and her friend Malini.
Malini looks Maya up and down and smirks.
Maya: Hi, nice to meet you all.
Adi: Maya? Did Arushi call by any chance?
Maya: yes she called, but…for ME!
Jhanvi: who's Arushi?
Adi: Arushi's my girlfriend.
Malini and Maya both notice Jhanvi's face fall.
Adi: why'd she call anyway?
Maya: she has to go out to dinner with a client of her's and she wants you to come with her obviously but she also wants me to come, to balance out the table.
Adi: balance out the table, huh?
Maya: ya…so I'm definitely going, but you'll come too right?
Adi: I'll see Raj probably wants to take his sister and her friends out for sightseeing right?
Maya: so then how are you needed?
Raj: Maya's right Adi! You go with Maya.
Malini takes advantage of the situation and goes and puts her hand on Raj's arm
Malini: Raj…. you'll take us clubbing right?
Maya looks at Malini and Raj and raises an eyebrow.
Adi: wait a minute. If Aru wants you to come meet one of her clients, is it a girl or a guy?
Maya: It's a guy, which is why she wants you there!
Raj: then why are you going?
Malini: obviously as a friendly date for the client!
Maya: umm Malini, if you don't mind, Raj and I could talk about this in private. Adi, will you show them their rooms?
Adi: sure, guys follow me!
Jhanvi: Adi, we're girls not guys! LOL
The four of them go upstairs, leaving Raj and Maya alone.
Maya: I'm going with Aru just as a friendly date.
Raj: but why should you go? Can't someone else from her office go with her?
Maya: Raj, as it is, you're gonna be with Jhanvi, Aman and that stupid Malini, so it doesn't even matter!
Raj: stupid Malini huh?
Maya: well she shouldn't be flirting with my boyfriend in front of me!
She puts her right hand on Raj's back, and her left one on his chest.
Raj: but she can, when you're not around right?
Maya: RAJ!!
They both laugh and….
Raj: make sure you wear something really ugly tonight!
Maya: why?
Raj: so he doesn't make a pass at you!
Maya: you are SO insecure! Nothing is gonna happen with me and Aru's client!
Raj: good!
They are both hugging while Malini and Jhanvi watch from the banister.
Jhanvi: what's with you? Can't you see how happy they are together?
Malini: I'll change that!
Jhanvi: why are you doing this Malini?
Malini: you're one to talk! You should have seen your face when you found out that Adi had a girlfriend!
Jhanvi: i….uhhh….
Malini: and you even have a boyfriend!
Jhanvi: I know, but…. I need a way to keep him home tonight, and a way to get Adi to come with us!
Malini: I have this….
She takes out a bottle of laxative.
Jhanvi: that's perfect for Aman, but what about Adi?
They both think about how to get Adi to go clubbing with them, that when Maya calls Adi for the phone.
Adi: hello?
Arushi: hey!
Adi: oh it's you!
Arushi: you sound disappointed!
Adi: not at all! What's up? Do you miss me? Cause I definitely miss you!
Arushi laughs: yes Adi! I DO miss you! Anyway I called to tell you to go out with Raj and his sister and her friend!
Adi: what? Why?
Arushi: because you should be a hospitable person!
Adi: are you sure?
Arushi: Yes and besides Maya will be with me!
Adi: ok fine, I'll go with them
Arushi: good! Love you, Bye
Adi: love you too! Bye!
They both hang up and right then Maya calls everyone down for lunch.
During lunch, Jhanvi mixes the laxative into Aman's food and Adi tells them that he will be coming with them so Jhanvi is ecstatic!
Maya walks down the stairs dressed in a pink knee length halter dress, with a pink shawl around her shoulders. She left her hair in a high bouncy ponytail. Her ears are adorned with clear chandelier earrings.
Raj is waiting by the staircase for Jhanvi and Malini when he sees Maya
Raj: I thought I told you to wear something ugly.
Maya: that, you know, can never happen!
Raj: I know! But anyway have a good time and I'll cya tom! Love you!
Maya: bye Raj! Love you too! You have fun too!
Raj: It'll be hard without you!
Maya smiles and they both give each a peck on the cheek. Maya gets into her BMW and drives off to where Arushi is meeting her client.
Malini and Jhanvi make their way downstairs and by now Adi as already reached the bottom of the stairs. Both Adi and Raj look up at Jhanvi and Malini. Jhanvi is wearing a white cocktail dress complete with a brooch at her left side. Her hair is left down, all perfectly bouncy. Her neck has a light silver chain with a diamond-studded heart, resting on it. In her ears she has two simple diamond studs.
Adi: (thinks) wow she looks so beautiful! Wait! I have a girlfriend and she has a boyfriend. Speaking of Aman, where is he?
Adi asks, "Where's Aman?" but only loud enough for Raj to hear. But Raj doesn't hear because she is too busy staring at Malini, who is wearing an identical dress to Jhanvi's except Malini's is deep red. Malini has put half her hair up in a ponytail, letting her curls bounce around as she walks. In her ears are deep red chandelier earrings. Adi fed up with no reaction from Raj, elbows him in the stomach, which immediately grabs his attention.
Raj: (angrily) what??
Adi: where's Aman?
Jhanvi: Aman won't be able to come with us…he's having stomach problems. But don't worry, I told him to call on one of our cells if he feels any worse.
Raj: are you sure he's ok Jhanvi?
Malini moves to where Raj is standing and links her arm in his.
Malini: Raj, Aman will be fine! Don't worry about him! Let's go!
She puts her head on Raj's shoulder causing Raj to send a look of panic to Adi.
Jhanvi: ya, let's go!
The four of them get into Adi's Lexus and drive towards club Nirvana.
At the Dessert Bar
Maya: (thinks) where is Arushi? How am I supposed to find her?
She looks around for a bit, and then dials Arushi's number.
Maya: Hey! Where are you?
Arushi: Hey, um I'm running kinda late. Where are you?
Maya: you're running late? I'm already here!
Arushi: ok well. Just ask the hostess for the table with his name, he booked it anyway.
Maya: It might help if you actually told me his name!
Arushi laughs: oh ya, It's Rahul Khanna. And I should be there in about 5 minutes max. Bye.
Maya: ok, hurry!! Bye.
They both hang up and Maya asks for Rahul Khanna's table. The hostess takes her to a table with someone working away on their palm pilot. Maya stands over the table.
Maya: Hi…. Rahul Khanna?
Rahul: Hi, ya. Are you Arushi? (He gestures for her to sit)
Maya: no. I'm Maya. Arushi wanted me to come along… (Interrupted)
Arushi: I see you two have met? Hi Mr. Khanna. I'm Arushi.
Rahul: please call me Rahul. (He gestures for her to sit also)
While Rahul and Arushi discuss business matters, Maya takes in Rahul physical appearance. The first thing that catches her attention are his hazel brown eyes, that you could drown easily into. Then Arushi makes a joke, and so Rahul flashes a smile, showing off his mischievous smile, along with his dimples. She looks down at his impeccable dressing sense, he is wearing black pants, with a white shirt and a lime green tie, and he also has a black blazer on.
Arushi: what do you think Maya?
Maya: hmmm?
Arushi: what do you think about the long-term contract?
Maya: oh umm…. it's good…
She quietly goes back to sipping her coffee.
Arushi: then I think we should sign it today, and make it official.
Rahul: great idea.
He gets out the contract and a pen, and then hands it over to Arushi. She reads over the contract and then she signs it.
Arushi: Rahul, we have finalized the partnership for 5 years.
Arushi looks over at Maya and sees her sipping her coffee, but looking at Rahul over the rim of her cup.
Arushi: Maya, it's getting late, we should start heading home now.
Maya: Ya sure Arushi. (She gets up and so does Arushi, followed by Rahul)
Rahul: Maya, if you…ummm…don't have to be home right away, would you like to…. umm…accompany me to Nirvana?
Maya: Nirvana?? Why??
Arushi stands back and watches this with a smirk on her face.
Rahul: ok here's the deal. I own Nirvana, and today is its 5th Anniversary, and I have to go there, but if I go without a date…I…uhh….
Maya: so basically you want me to be your date?
Rahul: ya, if that is ok with you….
Maya looks at Arushi, who gives her a slight nod.
Maya: Rahul, it's ok. I would love to be your date.
Rahul: really?
Maya: ya, but I need to make a quick phone call. (She looks at Arushi, with a knowing look)
Maya goes towards the restroom, followed by Arushi.
Maya: what do I do? I can't go with him as his date!! That would be wrong! I already have a boyfriend!!
Arushi: listen carefully to me! You do have a boyfriend, but he doesn't need to know, that you went out with Rahul. You just tell Raj that we met the client, and had our meeting and then you met some old friends of yours and so you went partying with them okay?
Maya: I should lie to him?
Arushi: to protect your relationship, yes. And now go out there, and have fun!
Maya: if you say so
Arushi: I do! Now go! Bye, call me if anything goes wrong.
Maya: I will.
They quickly hug and Maya leaves the restroom.
Rahul: are you ready to go?
Maya: uh huh.
They leave the dessert bar, and go to the parking lot and Maya follows Rahul to his blue Mazda Miata.
Maya: wow, nice car!
Rahul: you like it?
Maya: I love it!
They both get into the car and go to Nirvana.
