Short Story: Our first Meeting
By Neha Sharma
We met again in College. It was the last night of my first year and my friends had kept a party to celebrate our survival through first year. I could still remember the night of that final year. It was like every other night.
"Neha…"
Someone yelled behind me. I turned around smiling to find Bryan peering at me with a surprised look on his face. Chuckling I ran straight into his arms, "Wow. Look at you" he said still holding the surprised look, "You look like a girl" he was smiling.
I punched his shoulder lightly, "Bryan…" I yelled, "What?" he responded, "Neha, you look unbelievable… Just look at you…. you look beautiful" he said kissing my cheek, "I'm serious. I'm having a hard time keeping my eyes off you".
"Thanks." I shook my head still smiling, "Where is Jenny?" I asked him instead trying to look over his shoulder for his girl friend. But she was nowhere in sight.
"She is on the dance floor" he said chuckling, "There." He pointed out to me and sure there was Jenny on the dance floor dancing with a senior.
He surprised me by asking, "Dance?" extending his hand. I smiled placing my hand in his, "It's Kripa" I said politely reminding him of my real name.

It was past midnight when I walked out of the campus smiling with my purse tucked under my hand, when suddenly someone grabbed my waist, and pulled me around in a secluded corner. It was him, alright.
"Oh Prithvi" I said irritably, "How lovely to see you" I managed to pull myself to get out of his arms.
"Marry me, Neha" he begged, holding my hand, "Marry me"
"Prithvi, I don't think you're quite in your senses." I said hesitantly, "And I don't think your new wife would appreciate that."
"She is horrible. I love you Neha… I love you… And you know that, don't you?"
"Prithvi…" I whispered trying to think of an alternative way to walk out of here. I regreted for not taking up Bryan's offer of a ride.
When he tried to wrestle the ring in my hand and pulled me roughly. Out of reflex, I punched him on the jaw and he fell down with a loud thump.
"Are you alright?" A voice called out from the corner,
"Oh yes" I replied trembling. I couldn't believe I'd punched Prithvi, "Thank you, I am fine"
"Was he trying to force himself on you?"
"Yes" I said turning to face the stranger. I caught his green eyes, his brown hair, which was freshly cut, and the stubble on his jaw. He was tall, dark, handsome.
"You have an excellent aim" he said coming to stand beside me, as he looked on at Prithvi with a grin.
"Well, thank you" I replied with a hesitant smile, "I'm Kripa Sharma."
Something flickered in his eyes when I mentioned my name. "I'm Angad Khanna" he said shaking my arm, "You look so familiar. It feels like I've known you for ages."
I laughed it off, as I turned hesitantly to look at Prithvi and bent down beside him, "He is badly hurt, isn't he?"
"yes, I'm afraid he is" Angad replied turning to the man in question, "Do you need any help?" he asked when he noticed me trying to pull Prithvi up.
"Yes" I said, trying to pull Prithvi's arms and immediately Angad bent by my side. We both attempted miserably to pull Prithvi up, who was unconscious, "What are you studying?" Angad asked, distracting my thoughts.
"I knocked him out quite badly didn't I?" I said turning pale, "He deserved it" Angad answered, "Why don't we just dump in a garbage bin and head home?"
I laughed, "I don't think so" I said holding Prithvi, "We are going to find a cab and send him home."
"I don't understand" Angad paused, "Why are you trying to help him out here when he was trying to force himself into you?"
"I'm not sure" I said looking at Prithvi, "He is just drunk, not quite in his senses, I believe and I don't think it's right to leave him here all by himself."
"All right." Angad said, immediately pulling out his cell phone, and calling someone, "…yes… I'm at Mathison Avenue, please come"
"So, what are you studying?" Angad asked again, as we stood in the corner holding Prithvi, who kept muttering something like, "Iloveyou"
"Psychology," I replied, holding Prithvi, "What about yours?"
"CA!"
"That's nice" I glanced at the empty street, "I was always terrible at accounting back in High School. I almost managed to fail that, so I have a lot of respect for you."
"I suppose I'm terrible at Psychology too, but it's an interesting choice. My younger sister plans to head in that direction."
"How old is she?"
"About sixteen. And a pain in the ass" when I chuckled, he elaborated, "The problem is she has a major crush on my friends and always almost tries to grab their attention"
"Really?" I asked sounding fascinated, "Tell me more about her"
"One time, my friend Simon came home to stay for the summer, she was bold enough to walk up to him, and ask, "Can I kiss you?"
"She said that?" I asked chuckling in disbelief, "What did he say?"
"Well, I am assuming you don't have an elder brother, because if you did you would know the rule"
"The rule?"
"We aren't supposed to lust after our guy friend's sisters"
"There is a rule like that?" I said in disbelief, "No wonder" I said with a smile and when he frowned I explained, "My best friend had this huge crush on this guy back in Grade three and he happened to be her brother's friend. The guy never paid one bit of attention to her, she was quite disheartened. Anyway, what happened to your sister then?"
"He politely declined. The next summer when Simon came home in order to impress him with her new found cooking skills she forcefully fed him spaghetti-well, she had cooked it and the poor guy had no choice. He was always very polite"
"I find your sister intriguing" I said with a smile, "I would love to meet her some day"
And that's exactly when Prithvi chose to stir and push Angad Khanna away, as he pulled me towards him and almost slammed me on the wall, "Marry me, Kripa, otherwise I will be miserable without you" he begged, as he again tried to push the ring on my finger and tried to kiss me.
Some one pulled him roughly out of my hold and I shivered. "Do I have the permission to punch him?" a voice asked and I simply nodded. The next moment Prithvi was punched so roughly that he fell on the floor bleeding and this time he lost all of his senses. "He isn't going to wake up, until tomorrow morning, I suppose" Angad said with a ghost of a smile, "I think we should find a cab and send him home"
* * * *
I never saw Prithvi ever after that night. And I married the stranger, who almost came to my rescue that night. We dated for a period of six months after which he separated. Two years later we met again, this time our parents had fixed our marriage. Later I also learnt he asked me questions only to distract me and the fear which was evident in my eyes. I thought that was very sweet of him and I'm glad he did that, at least that got us talking. We are happily married now. Like every other couple we'd our share of difficult time, but we survived through everything. I love him a lot and so does he. In the next week's edition I'll provide a short story of my memory loss, titled Colours of my life, a story very close to my heart...

I really wanted to make the Epilogue different. So instead of their last bit - I brought up their first meeting. Also I wanted to keep their first meeting as simple as I possibly could. They are a normal couple and as you can tell their first meeting was not the most romantic. Hope you guyz enjoyed the epilogue! 😳
I want to thank each and every person who has written to me about this FF 🤗🤗🤗. Each and every comment means a lot to me. If it weren't for you this FF would not have been possible. I'm serious. I do believe that a reader shapes up the FF. It's your comments that encourage the writer and motivate us to write more. Sometimes we shape up scenes keeping your views in mind. It's not the writer that the credit for a story goes to, but the reader. You 🤗 🤗🤗
I get asked a lot why the Kripa's in my FF's are this crazy? Let's just say, it all started when I wrote the first part of Mismatch and I'd sketched a serious, sad, quiet Kripa. I reread the first part and I trashed it right away, because it was so boring I doubted anyone would read it. We all need a break from our serious boring life and want something to laugh or smile about, hence the creation of a crazy, wonderful Kripa.
