Time and Confusion:
It was one of those evening's again. The evenings you just want to spend at home alone, in your room listening to your music. Just to relax, maybe lay down for a while and do what you want to do. The sky was a purplish color and you could already see the stars and moon. It smelt like summer, nice warm summer. Those days you just want to hear the birds and take long naps. A peaceful evening.
That's was the total opposite of the car ride. Angad and Kripa were only about 30 minutes away from wherever it was Angad was going. Kripa wasn't at home, she sure wasn't listening to Atif Aslam, she could lay down or do anything she wanted too. She was just sitting, silently, listening to someone screaming on the radio, which was supposedly music. Kripa rubbed her eye's and yawned, moving into a more comfortable position. She combed her hair with her fingers, untangling a few ends.
"So are you sad?", Kripa asked Angad. "What?", Angad asked making a weird face again. "I'm mean, I know your sad but was your friend…were you guys really close?" she asked feeling a bit stupid. His friends but died in a massacre, what kind of question was whether he's sad or not. "You don't have to talk about it if you don't want too, I'm just trying to kill time I guess", Kripa explained with a half smile. Angad moved his neck around, and gave it a small massage with one of this hands. "Okay", he said plainly. "Okay what?" asked Kripa confused at Angad's one worded replies. "You said I don't have t talk about it, I don't want to talk about it," he said looking at Kripa for her reaction. Kripa was moving in circles around this guy, at times it would seem like they were making progress and then something like this would happen. This sure did entertain Angad since he would give a smirk looking at Kripa every once in a while.
After about 15 minutes, Angad a Kripa were at a crossroad. "Okay, so I'll drop you at the hotel and go do my stuff okay?" It was more of a command than a free willed question. "What hotel?" Kripa asked curious about exactly what Angad considered a proper living area. "I don't whatever hotel comes our way" Angad said looking around. "Umm…I don't…" Kripa didn't complete her sentence seeing that Angad was still looking around of God knows what. Angad scratch his head and looked back at Kripa, "I wont leave you in some motel with some fat chub as a clerk, if it makes you feel better. I think there's a Day's Inn somewhere around", Angad assured Kripa, although it sounded more like a mock to her. Kripa squinted her eyebrows, trying to give Angad a dirty look. "Why cant I go with you?" she asked curiously. "With me? Why, you don't know anyone there," said Angad looking adamant. Kripa thought for a minute and then replied, "Yes but, how do I know your not just going to take off someplace without me?" she said looking at Angad trying to see how he reacts. Angad rubbed his forehead trying to think of what to say. Apparently, he really didn't want Kripa to go with him. This was one of those Angad things, no one could ever figure out. "Tell you what, you can have this," said Angad handing Kripa Strata CD. "Take it with you, and if I don't come back…you can keep the CD", he said. Kripa rolled her eye's, "great so now if a get abandoned in Virginia, at least I'll have a moronic rock CD to listen too", she mocked Angad. Angad let out a small laugh mixed with a sigh. "Kripa…this CD isn't even out in the market yet…I'll come back for it," Angad tried to convince Kripa. "Yeah okay", Kripa murmured.
Angad changed the gear again and began driving without saying another word. "Where are we going?' Kripa asked after a few minutes of silence. Angad didn't answer this time, it seemed as if he was mad. Kripa looked down, and was saddened. She hadn't meant to make him mad, she just didn't want to be alone. It's the first time she ran away, and Angad was her only…help right now. Kripa wanted to go home again, she wanted to be in her room and hug Mr. Pinky her teddy bear. Angad and Kripa stopped in front of a house and Angad took the keys out of the car. "I'll be back," he said getting out of the car. "Okay," Kripa lightly whispered cautious not to get him angry. Angad was about to leave when he looked back, "Don't touch anything!," he said making the point very clear. Kripa jump in the sudden command and quickly nodded okay.
Angad went inside and talked to an old lady for about 3 minutes and then came back to the car. "What happened?" asked Kripa curious to know who the lady Angad was talking to was. She was defiantly related to Angad's friend who died, since she was in tears. What was amusing was that Angad didn't even hold her a little, being the friend of the desist, a little condolence was expected. But none what so ever from Angad Khanna.
He got into the car without making a sound and began to drive away without making a sound. But Kripa wanted to know now. "Was that lady your friends mother?" Kripa asked. "No, she's just a neighbor, I just wanted to know when and where the funeral is," said Angad pulling up by the Holiday Inn. "Lets go," Angad said getting out of the car with his back pack. Angad started walking before Kripa was able to tell him to open the back so she could take her stuff out. "Umm okay," said Kripa quickly following Angad. Inside the hotel was so pretty and cool. It somehow reminded Kripa of home for a few minutes. Angad talked to the clerk for a few minutes and then was handed keys. Kripa was still standing there waiting for Angad, slowly looking around making sure she didn't have any relatives lurking around. Knowing her huge family tree, there was a Sharma in every part of the world, in every caf, restaurant, hotel and mall.
"Wait are you waiting for?" asked Angad walking up to Kripa. "What do you mean?" Kripa asked confused. Angad pointed at the clerk, "Go get yourself a room," he said. "Unless you want to stay in mines, I personally have no problems with it, but I though I'd wait until we got to know each other a little more," he said making that idiotic expression again. "What? No, um. Do I have to get the keys?" Kripa asked very embarrassed. "You want me to talk?" Angad offered trying not to smile. "Please…," Kripa said looking down, if only her parents hadn't always done everything for her, maybe she's have better people skills right now. "Okay, but your paying for your own room," Angad reminded Kripa as they walked back to the clerk.
Angad and Kripa's room were right next to each other, so they walked up to them together. Just as Angad was about to open his door Kripa jumped up. "Oh my bags!" she exclaimed looking at Angad. Angad seemed to be a little irritated right now and held it in. "what about them Kripa?" he asked looking around to see where they were in the first place. "I forgot to get them out of your car, can I go back?" she asked. Angad rolled his head backwards and looked at Kripa, "Couldn't you have told me 2 minutes ago when we were downstairs, now I have to go all the down again", complained Angad. "Oh…sorry. It's okay, I can sleep in this too, its comfortable," Kripa said quickly and a bit quietly. "No, lets go", Angad sighed and started walking. "You don't have to go, you can just give me your keys and I'll get them, it's okay," Kripa offered. Angad stopped and looked at Kripa, and gave out a laugh, then resumed walking. "What's so funny?" asked Kripa. "You offered to take my keys…," Angad repeated with another laugh. "So?", Kripa still didn't get the joke. She began to think the bad humor curse was for real. "Kripa, no one touches my keys besides me, no one touches my I pod except me, no one lays hands on my clothes and no one drives my car except me," said Angad very seriously. Kripa didn't answer after that, they just went to get her bags. To say the truth, Kripa was a bit nervous now, she wondered what happened to the last person who touched something of Angads.
As night fell, both Angad and Kripa went into their rooms and fell asleep. It was a long day of driving for Angad, and a long day period for Kripa. Before sleeping Kripa looked through her stuff and found some pictures of her family. She missed them so much, and it broke her heart to not give a good night kiss to her daddy. If only they didn't under estimate her, if only they understood her, if only...
The next morning came way to fast. Kripa was still sleeping when Angad began pounding on the door. "Hello! Wake Up!" yelled Angad. Kripa twisted and turned in her bed and pulled the sheets above her head to block the sun. "Go away," said to herself, directing it to Angad. Outside Angad was about to break the door open. "Lady, would you wake up already, we have to go to the funeral!", he screamed, gathering attention of the other guests. "What are you looking at?", Angad asked one man how was staring at him. Mean while Kripa got up and dragged herself to the door and opened it. "What?' she asked annoyed. "Well good morning to you too," said Angad smiling. "Now get ready, we have to go now," he added quickly. "Why so early?" asked Kripa moving her head side ways. "I don't know, they like to bury dead people in the morning time I guess," said Angad shrugging his shoulders. Kripa didn't ask anything else and went into the bathroom. Angad was still standing there waiting for her, when Kripa yelled out "Stop listening to me pee you pervert!". Angad started laughing, "Sorry". He moved away making a mental note to remember how cranky Kripa is in the morning.
Kripa may have been a sorry pushover, but she sure did know how to dress. Now don't asked how she knew she's be attending a funeral, but she had the perfect dress. She wore black pants with a black sweater, whose collar hanged down. She looked quite attractive with her dead straight hair, you could fully see the natural highlights on her hair. Angad on the other hand had on a Rolling stones T-shirt with Juicy Jean's and his black converse. As Angad and Kripa drove to the funeral, Kripa decided to make some small talk again. "So how did you know your friend?" she asked. "He was my professor," Angad answered automatically. "Oh! I thought he was your friend like…class mate type friend," said Kripa surprised. "No, he was my professor when I went to Virginia Tech", Angad was interrupted by Kripa. "You went to Virginia Tech? Then you should have a lot of friends there…," said Kripa getting used to the surprised Angad was throwing at her. "No, I graduated two years ago, and I really didn't like anyone there. They were all just so…boring," said Angad looking the least bit interested in the conversation. "So, what about your professor?", asked Kripa. "He was okay. I mean, he almost failed me, but he was okay…he kind of grew on you," explained Angad. Kripa could tell how Angad's eye's brighten up just a little bit while talking about his professor. "That's nice," said Kripa, ending the conversation at that.
Angad and Kripa walked to the funeral home, and Angad stopped by the door. He stood there for about a minute, and then turned around to leave. "Aren't we going in?" asked Kripa following Angad. "No," replied getting taking out his keys'. "What, Angad…shouldn't go at least offer your condolences to the family?" asked Kripa racing to keep up with Angad. "What family? Those are all a bunch of sobs from the college. He had no family," clarified Angad. Angad was still walking when he noticed Kripa wasn't walking behind him anymore. "What?" Angad asked looking back at Kripa who stopped walking and was tapping her feet on the ground. Kripa stomped up to Angad, grabbed him by the arm and began dragging him back to the funeral home. "What are you doing?" Angad asked outraged. "You going to offer you sympathies, for their lose and your own, and your going to do it now!" commanded Kripa pulling him into the funeral home. "Hey! Watch the shirt at least," complained Angad as he let Kripa drag him inside the funeral home without much opposition. Almost as if he wanted her to do it.
