Also Satyen should really stop pushing Smrita to show any kind of care for Viveka. What is the use of this kind of fake concerns when the fake concern becomes a jab by the time it reaches Viv or her family.

Maybe it is time for him to accept that his wife is an asshole (not sure if this can be used for a woman too) and move on.

For a moment as a reader even I thought maybe Viv is pregnant and was kind of thrilled. But true, in between all that is going on, an unexpected pregnancy will only complicate matters further.

When will Raanav acknowledge to himself first that his mother will never be fair and nice to his wife? He might not able to change anything regarding his mother, but at the least he can stand in support to his wife.

What do they say, a leopard never changes its spots! Applies to Smrita. You’re so right, the more Satyen pushes her to be nice towards Viveka the more snarky she gets with her. The anger she feels at been forced to do something she takes out on Viv. Totally defeats the purpose

“I should just say I don’t feel good and we can stop fighting” 😆 I sooo wish that worked for me atleast sometimes 😋 but it's tough luck all around 😆

checked on her multiple times at night ♥️♥️

Raanav returned early around 7 ish when he didn’t hear from her 🤗

He wondered who was expected There's a formal dinner of sorts at home, MEA and all.. no one informed the second set of kids? Umm.. couple, yeah!

Maybe Smrita believed Raanav would be late in returning and didn't bother with Viveka? Mhmm.. I was just thinking if someone would've tried to inform Viveka, then they would've known sooner that she's unwell!! 😒

Smrita did not want to go There is something about Smrita that upsets me terribly! She has a startling lack of finer emotions like empathy, humanity, vagerah..

It's not even about being a mom like Satyen expects her to.. it's that she's unable to feel any concern for Viveka even in the worst of situations! Now when she's sick, the car wreck, her PhD rejection, Naina-Inder running off to Dubai.. uh huh, not a single kind bone. 🤔 Sooo hurtful!

People show more concern towards acquaintances and strangers on the roads 😭

Btw, I'm surprised she even got Raanav's jab over the purse comment 🤣

A person won't change unless they want to by their own effort and intention, not by someone's force. Smrita has to accept Vivekaa for who she is, Vivekaa usually takes Smrita in her stride not overtly anxious about her behaviour. Here is Satyen who wants grand kids and his better half getting scared and anxious.

Loved the banter between Vi and Ra, his concern for her☺️

I want to play Devil’s advocate for the moment in the story.

We all are looking at the story from Viveka and Ranaav”s perspective and anyone who is in line with them. Hence villianising Smirta and Naina to a certain extent.

Smirta is a loving mother, caring wife. She is very attached to her second son. She adores his extremely good looks and proud of his model life For her mental aptitude and alignment of priorities, she doesn’t appreciate his mental sharpness, his need to have an intellectual conversation with his life partner and how he is attracted to superior brain power. She lacks the understanding that some people thrive in debating. She is not an evil TV series mother-in-law. She is unable to connect with viveka. Infact she is intimidated by Anu. She believes Ranaav’s attraction will fades off and didn’t want things getting complicated. You love and like people who you can connect with. Not who you are intimidated by. So to her point, she let Satyen be happy not protesting to the decision of Ranaav and Viveka’s being married. May be she is tolerating Viveka similar Satyen tolerating her life style Or Lekha’s.

For all of us to love her, she has to go against her grain. She is not going to grow appreciation for economics in a blink of an eye. Infact if you think about it, people like Lekha and her are pumping money into the system and contributing immensely to the consumer spending, driving up the GDP of the country 😇😁

Ohhh

This is gives me an altogether different perspective even in real life 😂.

Yeah, she might not be Lalitha power types mother in law but definitely not an empathetic human being.

and in this story I most relate to with is Ranaav’s point of view.

Tied & untied

“Its like I have my life back” Viveka said quietly sitting down with a stack of journals on her lap

“I heard he gifted you a nice case”

Viveka nodded shyly

A day before Lohri he had surprised her with a giant desk and chair and what looked like a real high end wood bookcase with glass doors, with a lock and key with a keyring that had a a pair of silver eye glasses

“Its in his music room, I am sorting through this pile to arrange it over there”

“He is very thoughtful” Smrita claimed a piece of her son just as he seemed like he was being swallowed into this intellectual girl’s world

“I agree”

“How are you feeling?”

“I am fine now”

“Is this the first time you took this pill?”

Boy! This is awkward… Viveka thought to herself

“Yes… umm”

Smrita wanted to probe more, she felt wicked doing it

“Sometimes your body does not even know a thing called birth control so it has to figure stuff out” she probed more

“I generally don’t like medications” Viveka silkily avoided the topic

“We both were thinking different things” Smrita kept at it

“Who?”

“Dad was thinking it’s a baby, I was worried I mean… you both are just starting out right?”

“Dad thought I am pregnant?”

“I mean you cant blame him, married and nauseous right? Hes a simpleton” Smrita spoke with amusement

“He is a kind funny man” Viveka found herself defending Satyen

“Oh yeah, I know” Smrita reminded her who he belonged to

“We sat on the floor and ate khichri and papad in the evening” Viveka laughed

“Oh?” Smrita had a look of how dare he do these person affection displaying activities with this girl

“He reminds me everytime how both houses are the same” Viveka smiled fondly

“Well hes always been like that” “In the initial years, he would make sure the help made the exact achar and namkeen my Mum made”

Viveka did not know of Smrita’s antecedents she just knew she dropped out of college to marry Satyen

She must really love him she realized

She would never do that herself for any man

She doubted Ranav would make such demands either

“Are your parents from Delhi?”

“Hmm… they are no longer alive, shaadi mein aate nahi to” Smrita smiled

“Oh I am so sorry”

“I was talking to your Dadi a lot, my Mum was feisty like that, my brother? Uve met my brother, Viren, he says I am like my Mum”

“How nice” (Dadi is a wicked witch! She thought)

“Yeah I am like her though I think she might be a hundred years older than me” Smrita quickly put the distance in age between them

I mean how can a 78 year old Dadi and a 55 year old Smrita be of the same generation

“I asked her if I can call her dadi she became very happy”

“Nice” Viveka nodded

“I couldn’t do birth control, and Parashar men are restless, (self consciously lowering her gaze) why do u think I had Raanav anD Rakshit so close together?

Viveka’s jaw dropped at that condor

“I just got my tubes tied after that” she began to laugh in her signature tinkling of wine glasses way

“Ah! Um”

“Its totally your choice I mean… these days I know young people have their own idea of freedom and happiness” she nodded

“I agree thanks”

“I would totally not interfere”

“Thanks”

“Dad will not either… I know he sounds silly when he says he wants to be surrounded by grandkids” Smrita tried to appear “cool”

“I get it… my grandparents are the same way”

SEE… you just said GRANDPARENTS, it should not be a requirement of the 2020s, it used to be a requirement in 1980s, or 1990s, so ancient”

“That’s OK he loves kids, or must love them”

“Choose your life beta, if you want to live free then go for it” she squeezed a confused Viveka’s hands

She had subtly conveyed her message that she did not expect ANY grandkids from this union

Smrita prayed the message was received as well

Raanav walked out rubbing his head with a towel and had to pull it down to see his Mum and Viveka chatting

“Are you OK?”

“Of course she is” Smrita hugged Viveka’s shoulders

Viveka turned red, Raanav’s lips twitched with amusement

“I was telling her about Parashar men” Smrita goaded her son

“Oh yeah? What about them?” he bend down and picked up a glossy econ magazine from the table flipping through it

“I was teaching her to be strong and independent and cower to pressure”

“Ha” he turned to look at his wife

“Shut up shut up don’t say anything” her eyes begged him

“I didn’t know she needed any kind of support”

“Gawd! You cannot be quiet can you?” Viveka’s gaze accused

“Umm.. I know she is smart, but I am wise”

“You are admitting wisdom?” he laughed (u actually said u are old?)

“I have to tell you to ignore Parashar men when they are obnoxious” Smrita got up in a huff

“Are they here?” he urged his mother to leave

“they are, but family is important” Smrita has to score her points right?

She bend down to kiss Viveka, “See u out in a few”

When she left Raanav sat by her

“Why do u have to mock her?”

“I wasn’t actually”

“U were” she got up

“What did she say?”

“I should choose… I don’t have to have kids if I don’t want to, I can get my tubes tied right away” Viveka spoke with enormous calmness

:”Well you WONT” he barked

Wow this is such an awkward conversation to have with a MIL.

I guess in the need to come about as a cool person, Smrita does embarrass herself in front of others a lot. People must really be mocking her behind her back.

And Nisha you have shown this nature of Smrita right from the beginning in so many occasions.

“I asked her if I can call her dadi she became very happy”

One more dialogue and her foolishness is shown again.

Viveka must really be laughing remembering her MIL's dialogues when she is alone.

And seriously she asked Viv to not have kids at all. Her hatred for Viveka out ways her love for her own child.

Like I said in my earlier comment too, Satyen should really stop pushing Smrita to be nice to Viveka. Her irritation towards her husband will further increase her hatred towards Viveka.

Viveka is not an idiot to not get what Smrita says slyly. Good that she told Raanav about getting her tubes tied. Let him also know what kind of thought process his mother is capable of.
