Music began to blast from the twins’ room

Anubha woke startled from bed and rushed to yell at them

“Dadi aap inko kisi din dopahar mein bula lein aur araam se chai peete peete ghar ki sari video dikhlayen”

He noticed a distinct UP twang to her speech

Why didn’t I notice it before? He thought

“Jagao to” Dadi whispered waving at Akash

“I will come back Dadi” Raanav got up almost body slamming “Biveka” as she stood inches from him in the furniture filled living area

“Chal diye beta?” Dadi was upset her homie was leaving

“Phir kabhi?”

Akash woke up startled

“Arey rey… ruk jao beta”

“Dadi is boring him to death Pa”

Akash yawned “Kya kahoon main…. 10 baje pi hai inhone chai” he was exhausted

“If you have the habit of staying up at night, you should come entertain her” Viveka cracked herself up

Akash got up and stretched

“Chaliye beta chhod aate hain

“Don’t worry I am good” he reached for a hand shake

“Arey nahi”

“Papa aap so jao I will show him how to use the elevator”

She heard Raanav chuckle

“Baarish bahut hai beta, chhatha le ja” Akash sat back down and yawned readying for his next session

“I am not going down Papa” she mumbled

She ran inside to grab her phone, and then grabbed her keys from the chest of drawer by the door

“Beta… kal aa paogey?” Dadi looked away from the blaring TV to ask her new best friend

“Umm.. try karta hoon”

“Kal asal mein Dadaji k eek dost aa rahe hain… unke saath who kaam kar chuke…” “Kya naam hai unka… Munnaa”

Akash woke up with a jolt

“Arey Maaa”

Anubha peeked

“take care” she smiled

“Yes I will… thanks for the meal…”

“You are welcome” she smiled politely but did not gush

“I liked the subzi”

“You haven’t had lotus stem before?”

“umm.. I guess” he nodded

“Its Viveka’s favorite… well everything’s her favorite” Anubha walked to her husband

“except ME” he thought as she checked her phone and shut both doors softly

“If we can draft the terms tonight you can have Dadi” she laughed

He began to laugh “Love her that much huh?”

“U cud call it that”

“She has no hesitation in talking to strangers”

“Nope…”

“Why do you love her so much?” he mocked

“Umm.. no I do” “I am tired of her nagging”

They approached the elevator

It was a beautiful rainy night, the air smelled like moisture and earth

“Well drive safe” she said politely

He gave her a meaningful look

“I am used to getting home late…. I attend book reviews and reading clubs and such” she explained

He folded his arms across his chest and waited to hit the down arrow to summon the lift

“So it’s a no?” he asked grimly

“No I am careful… we will have the car looked at” she smiled

Mostly she spoke to him like she spoke to a coworker

Friendzoned, polite…

He wanted to just hang out and chat

“What book are you reading right now?” he asked leaning on the wall between two elevators

“GDP: A Brief but affectionate history” she said thoughtfully channeling the book in her head

He wanted everything to be different

He wanted her in his bed, he wanted the “book talk” he wanted her… he wanted her intellect, he wanted that fanatical love for the subject

He smiled at the title

“IKR… U name a book like that I will pick it up”

“Was it your turn to pick?”

“Hmm”

They just could not talk anymore

It was too awkward

“Its really late” she said quietly

“A book waiting for you?” he asked wistfully

“That an 4 journal articles and test corrections”

“You didn’t thank me for bringing you home”

She turned bright red….The elevator appeared

He walked in and turned to her

“Have a good night Viveka”
