They gazed at each otherlongingly

He grinned

They lay there still

“She is probably crushing onsomeone” he growled

He stiffened

“I am just afraid she is going totake off some night, go off to Singapore or something and just wander”

“Did ?” he rose up and stared ather face

“Yeah Dad told me about AnyaGulati ( grand daughter of a fat catfriend from Chanakyapuri)

She nodded and stared out thewindow

“I doubt she would II” he lay onhis side and gathered her close

“that’s why I keep saying youneed to be here more” she accused

He grabbed her hand and kissedher

Hi Nisha ... awwww 🥰

wow u remembered 🙏 There is a moment of silence around 10.30-10.40 (work, school), half mast flags, posts honoring our lost fire fighters, then everyone moves on. I always have the urge to stop my husband from going into work or taking a plane that day. But life has to move on. We take a pause and remember and move on.

I talked a little about it with my son. He wasn’t born yet that day. We talked about one of our colleague - Joseph Mathai who lost his life that day leaving behind his wife and two young kids. He was kind of my mentor when I was still figuring out my ways in the big city as a 24/25 old and helped me settle in the financial services sector of our company. He was attending a Risk Management conference that day in North Tower. What an irony !

His wife called him - He answered the first time and then never again. How fortunate were we. My husband walked out of the building when the first plane hit. He called me and I asked him to come back home. thank god that he didn’t listen and go back into the building to take the train. It was very very late in the evening when I received the next call from him. One of the worst day of my life yet fortunate to see him back in one piece.

My daughter was few months old and I couldn’t take her to Massachusetts to Joseph’s funeral. My husband and a few other colleagues from NY drove up to send off Joseph one final time.

His kids both were in elementary at that time. We donated generously to their education fund. His son turned into a fine young man now. Here is story from few years ago

Terror/ Tragedies bring the good and bad in people. Changes people (/lives) forever. Victims and witnesses don’t bleed everyday but the sorrow is buried deep. What they do with that sorrow is really what makes each man great. Teresa Mathai did a fantastic job as a mom to positively turn that grief into more meaningful things.

What a courageous story Jas, thanks for sharing. I cannot imagine what your husband goes through on that day and how lucky he considers himself for making it out alive

Very courageous Jas, can't even imagine a percent of what the victims and their families would have faced.

A unknown fear exists in all of us I think which surfaces now and then where the mind imagines all sort of worst things with respect to our loved ones. It persists for a few hours or days and the only way I have been able to overcome these depressing thoughts is by prayers
