They didn't call each other for a week, she texted him finally on the 9th day after that watch party.
She spent many days agonizing over why he would be dating someone while he was hooking up with her
She cursed herself for being too old fashioned and jumping to conclusions for no reason
Not every woman is a girlfriend, I am so stupid she told herself
She felt better for a few hours, telling herself how she was judging someone exactly the way she herself did NOT want to be judged

She texted him 9 days later with a "That watch party was fun
"Thanks he responded promptly
"How have you been? he asked
"Busy, as you saw from my dozen emails to you everyday the cheap phone didn't have any fun emojis

A couple hours later he texted her "The weather's nice I am taking Toast to Nehru Park do u want to go for a run?
"I don't "run I will walk she said
She realized how easy it was for them to be pleasant to each other
"Just wear comfy shoes he texted
She met him at 6 ish after one of Delhi's famous dust storms, and drizzle, the temps had dropped from 40+/100F down to a "lovely 30ish/80+ with a moisture laden earthy breeze
She took a Metro to Chanakyapuri and walked to the park and texted him by the gate, he was pulling in, he saw her, she had her laptop backpack with her (she couldn't leave it in her locked car in the Stern parking lot as usual)
He slowed and Toast almost leaped out of the Jeep he was driving
She shrunk back afraid
When they finally started walking Toast looked like he was exhausted from greeting her, she handed Avyaan a gift bag with dog bone on it
"For me? he laughed
"NOOO
He pulled out a giant ceramic divided dish with an image of dog on one side and cat on the other
"Dogs drool it said on the dog side and "Cats rule it said on the other
He stopped and laughed out loud
"If u are trying to be his friend this is not helping he waved it gasping with laughter
The dog pounced on it, he had to show it, he saw the image of the snowy white cat and growled
"Yep.. Avyaan nodded
She smiled sheepishly
"I just want him to know I don't like him either
Avyaan fished in his pocket for a treat set the dish down and threw some in it
"He drooled over your cat, Ouch! Avyaan mocked her picking it up and putting it in the gift bag walking towards the Jeep
"Good to see you that night she mumbled after they had walked quietly for 30 minutes Toast changing birds, butterflies, lil kids and anyone who he wanted to scare
"Oh yeah he suddenly remembered
"Who were you with? he asked
"A friend she said stiffly
"An old friend? he chuckled
That irritated her
"My DAD actually she snapped
"Oh? he was shocked
"is that why you rushed back? he asked thoughtfully
"I didn't see you wanting to chat, I saw you DUCK when the woman at your table started looking for you
It came out...
"Whattt?
"I saw it
"U think I am ashamed of you? he asked horrified
"Maybe that's a stretch, but definitely not happy
"Can I say the same about you?
They were glaring at each other
"He was there for a quick visit
"Meeting me would have made him miss his flight?
She squirmed
"Why are we even bothered about getting to know others in our lives she said with sage like wisdom
"You started it Samidha, you lied about your Dad
"I didn't lie
"Really?
"You still haven't told me who YOU were with?"
"MY MOM he said incredulously
She turned a guilty red
"It doesn't matter" she said primly
"Oh why?
"U love Charu, and I love my husband Bik" she said haughtily
"You talk as if he is still alive" he said pissed😡
Color washed off her face
"If you can still love someone that left you for someone else, then I can love someone that has only ever loved me" she said her voice trembling...😭
