~Chapter 3 - Small trips to the past~
We went to the balcony and I couldn't face him. My heart was aching and I could feel him coming closer.
I leaned on to the barriers.
I gasped as I felt someone's hand turning me around and pulling me aggressively.
I closed my eyes, as I violently hit my head on his hard strong shoulders. My hair flowed in his face and I felt him taking in the fragrance of my hair for a while.
This made my breathing heavier. Why did he do this? I wanted to shout at him, scream but he didn't give me a chance. He made me hopelessly weak.
"Now you listen to me Ms.Roshni Patel", his words came out harshly.
His grip tightened on my hand and he made his way up to my arm and eventually both his hands clutched my shoulders.
I could feel his touch directly to my skin. His fingers lingering around my shoulders nearly touching my sweet spot, my collarbone. I could notice his distraction.
He walked closer to me, and our faces were barely apart. I tried talking but no words came out.
"You're enjoying the closeness, aren't you?". Damn, why does my heart always speak out at the wrong time?
"I don't know why you're doing this, but get one thing straight I will never accept this marriage even when we're married".
What the hell did he just say?
"What the hell did you just say" I screamed.
"You think I did this?", I asked with shock.
This guy was unbelievable. Did I not literally just refuse to marry him?
How can he think I am doing this on purpose?
His forehead creased, and his eyes widened as I spoke to him with confidence.
"Sorry but Mr.Khurana I should be the one saying these words to you because downstairs you were the one who agreed to this marriage".
"I agreed for the sake of my company, if I didn't say yes the reputation of my company would go down the drain and all my partners would break the contract.", he replied straight away as if he was trying to justify himself.
Flashback:(Third person POV)
Siddharth came in with his luggage. He entered his parent's huge mansion.
"Mom, Dad", he wanted to get this over with.
Simran and Raj came down with bright smiles on their faces. They both knew this would be difficult but they had it all planned in their heads how they'd word it.
"Sit down Siddharth", Simran ordered him after the greetings.
"What's going on", he said as he took a seat.
"How do I say this?", Simran sighed.
After a while of silence and Siddharth's constants questions, she told him everything that happened at the party ages ago but didn't mention names just yet. (The one with how they told the media Siddharth and Roshni would marry each other)
Siddharth raised his eyebrows. "This is a joke yeah?".
Both his parents stayed quiet and Siddharth then responded to their silence, "I'm not doing this".
He sounded firm and Raj decided to convince him anyhow.
"Siddharth this concerns our honour, our company's dignity. Think about it, if you lose reputation then all our partners will back out of the contract".
Siddharth thought about it. It was only marriage. His life would be the same, its not like he was going to put any effort into this marriage. - That was the way he viewed it. And his work life was everything to him
"Okay", he didn't really care.
"Don't you wanna know who she is first?".
"You gave me this big news, now tell me her name, its not like its a big deal".
He stood up, ready to go to his room.
"Roshni Patel".
Silence. He stopped in his tracks.
"I'm sorry, what did you just say?", he asked his mom.
"Roshni Patel", she repeated herself.
His hands whirled into a tight fist. His teeth's clenched. "Roshni", he let out a whisper.
He walked away, not even mentioning a single word only thinking that maybe this was all her plan.
Flashback over: (Back to Roshni's POV)
"You are a huge attention seeker right? You probably wanted to get close to me just like you did to Ak...", he stopped at the name.
"You always wanted to get close to me. Everyone knows my family is richer than yours. You want money right", he said without any sympathy.
I could feel my jaw tightening.
Feelings rushed up my whole body, while tears formed in my eyes.
He took me back to the past, the past where I was proved to be basically a characterless girl in front of everyone.
His grip weakened as he saw tears in my eyes.
He immediately turned around and was about to leave when I spoke out, "why did you stop? Come on say it? Say that you think I want to marry you because I'm characterless? Because I want attention?", when the words were coming out, more tears slipped down my face.
It's horrendous how he thinks about me like this. Who would've known the guy who I admired more than anything would prove me to be like this one day..
He didn't move for a second, but then he slowly turned around and looked me straight in the eye.
"Your tears don't affect me because they're fake". Then he left.
I was shaking, all the memories came back to me like a hard stick poking my heart.
One sentence he said, broke me. Up to yesterday, tears were kept inside but now all the tears came flowing in one go. Why did he make me feel so vulnerable?
I felt like such a bitch, even though I know I wasn't. Why does he have that much effect on me?
I took in deep breaths and wiped my tears. My mind went back to when he nearly took that idiot's name. Akash, the name that ruined everything.
Akash, his best friend. He chose friendship over everything. My teeth tensed just at the thought of it.
He was the one who made me laugh, who made me smile not the one who made me cry.
Flashback: (Third person POV)
It was about nine months in school. Roshni and Siddharth were closer.
They became really good friends and Roshni kept her feelings hidden.
There was one month left for the last year to finish.
She wasn't even that aware of how much she liked Siddharth. All she knew was she wanted to be around him at all times.
They would all sit together at lunch talking, laughing sharing jokes.
However there was also someone else who would sit together. The troublemaker, Akash. He became quite good friends with Siddharth.
Siddharth started to slowly drift apart from Veer because of this. Veer on the other hand didn't mind that much...
He was happy Siddharth was making new friends in the school.
This happens to everyone at some point in school, where you start to be influenced by other people some your friends some your enemies.
They were all sitting down at the table when, someone put her hands on Siddharth's eyes from behind.
"Guess who", she said with her red lipstick and her short casual black dress.
"Nina!", Siddharth grabbed her hand and stood up to hug her.
Someone was burning intensely. Roshni could feel her stomach churning seeing them together.
Nina had asked Siddharth out and he agreed. They were together since one month, but Siddharth wasn't really into it.
For the school they were together, but privately it was never that deep.
He agreed, because he thought once school was over this would be over.
Nina liked him because he was handsome and hoped to continue the relationship even after school.
Nina had become good friends with the rest including Roshni. They shared a lot of things together and even she'd notice the chemistry between SidNi sometimes, but she'd brush it off thinking they were just friends nothing else.
Physically yes they were friends but somewhere mentally they were more.
Roshni saw Nina kissing his cheek.
She left the table and ran to one of the classrooms.
She couldn't bear the thought of them together, but she didn't want to ruin anything. She didn't want to take his happiness away. Selfless, unconditional admiration.
"Roshni", came a voice from behind.
She turned around to face Siddharth.
"What's wrong", he could notice her gloomy expressions.
"Nothing", she faked a smile.
"Roshni I know when you're happy and when you're sad".
Roshni swallowed hard. What was she going to tell him now? She couldn't tell him she was jealous, that would break their friendship.
"I..I failed my maths test, that's why".
Siddharth smiled. "Come on Roshni, it was a stupid class test".
"Yeah I guess so", she was enlightened that he was interacting with her and trying to make her feel better.
"Siddharth?", Roshni looked up to him moving one step closer.
"Yeah?", he answered.
"You're never going to leave me, are you?", she made eye contact with him while her heartbeats rose up and up waiting for his response.
He moved another step closer and took her hands in his. "Never".
Roshni felt a sense of relief. His hands, slowly touched her cheek caressing it with the palm of his hand and he brought his lips forward.
Roshni's breathing hitched wondering what he was doing. She closed her eyes softly and Siddharth grinned seeing this.
He left a wet, soft kiss on her forehead.
Roshni's hands were tempted to reach out for his face as soon as his smooth lips touched her temple.
She slowly opened her eyes, but Siddharth wasn't there anymore. He had already left.
Roshni was left smiling holding her forehead reminiscing the kiss.
She reached to touch her forehead and kissed her hands that touched her forehead.
His presence made her feel a sense of peace. A weird kind, the best kind.
Flashback over: (Back to Roshni's POV)
I wished he never left me those memories. It just hurts me more, a lot more than somebody else betraying me.
He gave me hope, and he took that away himself.
He was sitting down beside his parents. As I streamed down the stairs, his eyes shifted to me.
As soon as I glanced back at him, he looked somewhere else.
Just ignore, Roshni just ignore. He means nothing to you.
Veer came up to me. "Are you alright? Did something happen?".
I then told him everything that happened on the balcony. He gave Siddharth an angry look.
"Still the same buffoon".
I giggled a bit at this. Siddharth's eyes were on us the whole time.
He went red and it looked like he was raging. But why was he angry?
Oh who cares?
"You do, you care about everything he does".
After a while, I talking to my friends, he left with his family.
Mom came up to me and gave me another surprising news.
"So we've decided to keep your engagement tomorrow".
I didn't react. My friends around me tried to make me feel better but the conversation with Siddharth was on repeat in my head.
It was barely even nighttime but I already felt tired, mentally tired.
Siddharth's POV:
As soon as I reached home, I went straight to my room slamming the door.
"Aargh", I threw a vase across the room.
The image of her crying came to my mind. How dare she make me weak with her tears?
"I hate you so much Roshni".
Someone knocked on my door.
I opened the door to find out of the maids. "Sir, someone's waiting for you downstairs".
Who is it now?
I went down still in my suit, to find someone familiar. Veer.
He looked like he was about to punch me or something.
"What do you want?", I asked him in a cold tone.
"What I want is for you to stay away from her", Veer replied.
Who the hell was he to say this?
"Oh the girlfriend send you here?", I sassed.
"What are you on about?", Veer looked confused.
Such a drama queen. "Oh stop the attitude man, you know what I'm talking about. I know you and Roshni are together".
I don't even know why, it took a lot of courage to say that.
Someone died inside of me when I said those words.
My mind shifted back to the day I saw them together.
Flashback: (Third Person POV)
It had been quite a lot of months since school started. There was only about 1 months left. This is a few days after the last flashback..
Siddharth walked past the class and slowly retreated as something caught his eye.
Roshni was hugging someone very close. As he moved his head sideways to see who it was, he saw Veer.
He held the wall beside him and continued looking at them, especially at Roshni.
Roshni for a minute held Veer's hands.
"They're just friends they're just friends", he kept on saying the words to himself.
"You're wrong bro", Akash came.
"What are you talking about?", Siddharth inquired.
"They're dating each other".
Siddharth's breathing stopped for a second.
"No chance, Roshni would've told me and Veer too."
"No bro, trust me they are secretly dating. This Roshni is very tricky, she goes out with so many guys".
"Shut the f**k up dude.", Siddharth caught his collar.
Akash tried to let go but Siddharth was way too angry for this.
"You don't trust me? I mean just look at them, they're hugging".
"So? That doesn't mean anything. Friends are allowed to hug."
"You don't believe me? And here I thought we were good friends. Trust me when I say last week, Roshni came up to me wanting to kiss me".
Siddharth looked at him suspiciously for a second.
"Even if they're dating, I shouldn't care. I have a girlfriend anyway, Nina".
He meant to say it casually but it came out as a question. It's like he was questioning his own feelings and thoughts.
Akash took out a video and showed it to him. It was a video of Roshni saying 'I love you' to Akash.
Siddharth grabbed the phone violently. He wanted to smash the view he was seeing in front of him.
Akash pretended to care, and try to comfort him. Didn't work and Siddharth angrily walked away.
He reached one of the classes. He tried to convince himself, that the only reason he was upset was because Roshni was a good friend of his and she didn't tell him.
But he didn't know, the true reason behind it was jealously. It was because he couldn't see Roshni with anyone else.
He always respected Veer and Roshni's friendship but what Akash had said to him and what he showed made unnecessary doubts form.
Something he doesn't know- that day Veer and Roshni did hug and Roshni did hold his hand but it was as friends. Veer had lost his mom that day and so Roshni was trying to comfort him. Of course Siddharth wouldn't know because he had already drifted apart from Veer.
And that video, Roshni and Akash were doing a role play in drama class. Akash made someone film it.
Siddharth had decided he wouldn't talk to Roshni. This was the first step to an end of a great love story...
Siddharth start drifting away from Roshni and ignored her completely.
His impression of the sweet, confident but innocent girl had changed drastically.
Roshni focused on her studies as there was only a few weeks left for exams.
She'd sometimes notice Siddharth's cold behavior towards her but assumed it was just because he was tired and she'd go back to normal at graduation.
But how did she know? Graduation day would be the end to everything.
Flashback over: (Still third person POV)
Veer's loud voice stopped Siddharth from properly remembering that day.
"You're disgusting? You think me and Roshni are together? Years ago, you had also claimed the same thing in graduation and now you're saying it again? You're sick man. You were too blind being friend with that ass, that you didn't even realize I was in love with Sona. You would always joke with her, have I ever accused you two of being together?", he was furious by Siddharth's words.
Siddharth couldn't help but think twice about his words.
"You're in love with Sona?", he asked with a little doubt.
Veer didn't think it was smart to answer the question and he left the house stomping.
Siddharth was clueless, he didn't know what to believe anymore. It had been many years, but he still wasn't over what happened. He still wasn't over her.
He went back to his room thinking deeply.
Patel Penthouse: (Roshni's POV)
I sat on my bed curled up with my pillow. I felt so alone, I didn't want to get married to him. I always thought I'd get married to someone I love like every girl.
But who am I kidding? I could never fall in love and I won't let myself.
"You're already in love".
I shrugged off what I thought I was feeling and started bottling up my feelings again.
I had to be strong. I had to face him and his taunts. Maybe I could run away from the marriage and never come back.
Okay Roshni now you're just going mad. I wonder what he's doing or what he's thinking.
I can't stop thinking about him. First he comes into my life like a storm and then, blames me for this marriage.
Is he serious? He actually thinks I still think about him even after all these years.
"He's not wrong, you do still think about him".
I shook my head in attempt to make my heart's feelings go away. This was hard though.
Tomorrow was a new day, my engagement. Let's see how that goes.
