CAPTURING HEARTS

Shatrughan almost bounced on the chariot, causing Bharat to laugh.

"Lalla, calm down. We will see them soon, said Bharat.

"It is not just Bhaiya and Bhaiya, Bhaiya, said a hyper Shatrughan. "I want to see the beauty of Mithila, of which both Rama Bhaiya and Lakshmana Bhaiya have written to us about

"I wonder, said Bharat, a smirk on his face.

"Bhai, what happened to you?, asked Shatrughan. "Seeing you with a smirk is equal to seeing Lakshmana Bhaiya without one. It doesn't bode well

"It is fine for you and Bhaiya, Lalla. But Lakshmana, on the other hand, said Bharata, mischief sparkling in his eyes.

"Rama Bhaiya is very right, said Shatrughan. "You become as mischievous as Lakshmana Bhaiya generally is when it comes to Lakshmana Bhaiya himself

"Ripudaman, Bhaiya is even more mischievous when it comes to Lakhan Laal, said Bharata, laughing. "I am just joining his side

"And who will be on Lakshmana Bhaiya's side? I will always be on Rama Bhai's, said Shatrughan.

"Maybe our new Bhabhi will, said Bharata.

"I thought so too, said Shatrughana. "From what Ram Bhaiya wrote, Lakshmana Bhaiya and Bhabhi are already very close

"We will be too, said Bharata, smiling, ruffling Shatrughan's hair. "But first thing I am going to do is find ways to tease our darling Lakshmana

The two brothers grinned at each other, and started plotting on how to tease their brother.

Lakshmana rushed toward the main entrance, knowing his elder brother would be there, when he bumped into a shorter wall, almost coming to a standstill. He gripped the person in front of him, knowing it was Urmila.

"Rajkumari!

"Sumitranandan!

She seemed flustered, and turned a dark shade of red, making Lakshmana smile handsomely.

"I didn't see you, said Lakshmana, his voice low.

"I didn't see you either. I.. Sita Jiji needs my help, said Urmila, her naturally wide eyes widening further, almost as if pleading with him to believe that she was not trying to escape his presence.

"And Rama Bhai needs mine. The Baarat arrives today, said Lakshmana, smiling softly.

"I know, Sumitranandan, whispered Urmila, her eyes blatantly showing her love for him.

"Urmila? Sakhi? Rajkumari Sita is searching for you

The distant voice of her Sakhi Priyamvada made Urmila sigh, and giving Lakshmana one last look, she almost ran in the direction of her sister's chambers, leaving a grinning Lakshmana.

Bharata smiled widely as he saw the curious, yet welcoming faces of the Mithilavaasis. His love for the people came naturally, as he saw their genuine happiness at their arrival. Mithila was a highly enlightened Kingdom, he thought, as he immediately felt at home, and the spring in his step grew. He already felt at home, and his smile only grew wider as he saw the Rajarishi waiting outside the palace with Maharani Sunaina.

Mandavi felt her face colour as she heard whispers pass on about the first younger brother of Dashrathnandan Rama. She didn't know why, but the mere name of Rajkumar Bharata was enough to discompose her, and make her nerves flutter all over her body. What was it that his name had that send her into a daze, one that she herself teased her youngest sister, Shrutakirti about wanting? The same nerves that Kirti, the hopelessly romantic sister described, it was those nerves she was feeling.

"Mandavi, look at your situation. If Urmila ever hears of this, she will laugh uproariously. Without even meeting a Prince, how can you feel the way you do?

She muttered to herself, walking along the garden, as she felt the evening breeze hit her face coolly. She had slipped out of the palace for a few quiet minutes, as all that she had done is work for the past many days. She needed her peace to gather her wits so that she doesn't end up blabbering in front of Rajkumar Bharata.

"Mandavi!, she said loudly, frustrated with herself.

"Is there anything wrong, Rajkumari?

The soft voice of someone from behind her made her whirl around, and she gasped, as her eyes met brown eyes, exuding kindness and honesty, yet with a subtle tinge of something akin to mischief.

"Forgive me, said the man standing opposite to Mandavi. "I am Bharata, one of the four princes of Ayodhya

"The first younger brother of Rama Bhaiya, said Mandavi. "I am Maharaja Kushadwaja's elder daughter Mandavi, the cousin of Rajkumari Sita

"Pranaam Rajkumari, said Bharat, soft smile gracing his face. Mandavi blushed when she observed how handsome he truly was, and she could feel her heart thudding faster.

"Pranaam Rajkumar, said Mandavi, confused about the jumble her emotions were, yet determined to keep herself steady and pleasant.

The two of them stood in a comfortable silence, and just as Bharat was about to say something, a warning bell rang through the air in the form of the sound of anklets. Her youngest sister was approaching, in some form of distress. Worried as to what had happened, Mandavi, turned to Bharat, and said, "I will see you tonight at dinner Rajkumar. My sister needs me

Saying thus, Mandavi took off to Sita's chambers, knowing that Kirti was headed there, and that Sita and Urmila were within the chambers as well.

"I met the youngest Rajkumar of Ayodhya

Kirti's whisper across the silent room made the three sisters blink. They had never seen their sister so flustered, or confused either. She was blushing as she said it, and Sita couldn't help but smile softly. She knew Urmila was deep in love with Lakshmana. She prayed to all Gods and Goddesses that her father, who was usually perceptive had noticed it as well. If he had, she knew that Urmila would be coming with her to Ayodhya. But now, her baby Kirti too? Her smile grew, as she looked at Mandavi, hoping to see Mandavi's reaction. The words that fell from Mandavi's mouth surprised her.

"I met Kaikeyinandan Bharata, said Mandavi, her face looking determined, but her cheeks colouring red anyway.

"And you...

Urmila gasped loudly, her heart beating fast. The knowing smile spreading on Sita's face confirmed her own hopes. Her two sisters had met the other two Raghukula brothers, and it looked like they were in love at first sight as well.

The four sisters looked at each other, all with bated breaths, before one final look of mock outrage on Sita's face caused all four of them to erupt into loud laughter.

It was with that same laughter and cheeriness that they entered the guest hall, their spirits and hopes high, as they would see the ones who had captured their hearts!
