Magna Carta

The Vaidya family rituals were elongated, traditional and very sincere. Shyam and Himani were in absolute admiration of it all. The no drinking part baffled them. But upon insistence they were serving no alcohol.

There was no fake flowers anywhere, only orchids and roses in the exact color of Avantika's outfit. White gloved service, waiters wearing ear pieces and almost robot like weaved their way through the event with quiet professionalism

Chandan did not leave her side one second after spotting her, the jaimala was raucus and noisy

When she leaned over to garland him his friends dragged him back, causing her to plead with her eyes

"Teeku, go for it beta' Shyam urged

She couldn't bring out any sound from her dried throat

"TEEKOOO, come on her brothers urged

"Bhayya she turned to Vibhu and groaned

"Boss behen hamari sundar hai hum inko keh denge jo aage aaye unko pehna lein Vibhu threatened

Chandan wanted a garland too, he got one

Harit approached tamely and when she was just about to aim for his neck with the floral rope he tilted his head the garland falling over his shoulder

"Ufff she sighed audibly

He heard that and stood still and bend down finally

The muhurat was at 3:14 AM she was dozing off by the toasty fire, on the cold March morning

"Dulhan ke soney se pehle sampan kar denge panditjee? Dhruv teased the pandit

"Hum to tabahee se baithe hain, logon ka khaana nahi hua he bristled

Dhruv offered Teeku's hand embedded in puffed rice and Harit held it in a warm grip

Chandan was asleep in Lakshmi's lap next to Harit his legs spread out, exhausted after trying o stay awake so he could make sure Teeku Maasi was indeed with him

He had two clashes with Garima and one with Vivaan that night over silly things resulting in giant meltdowns each time that caught Teeku's attention

She would have got off the gazebo to go mediate if it weren't for Meeta bhabhi's look of stern disapproval.

Maneet and Akshat introduced themselves to her and a dozen others, she nodded dazed as to how come so many took time off to drive 8 hours to Roorkee

Lots of Roorkee jokes were cracked to her chagrin

She stiffened claiming she was actually from Delhi, causing Harshal Rishabh and Harit's friends to tease her more

3:14 arrived and the ceremonies began

She spotted Harit yawning multiple times and wondered if he spent his night poring over deeply "riveting case documents about the magna carta, grant deed or malicious prosecution.

Teeku paani dein beta? Himani asked in a fatigued voice hoarse after non stop talking for two days

"Maa.. khaana? she said not too softly

Harit could not hide his chuckle

She didn't notice it Himani did and smiled congenially.

"shes never fasted before she supplied to her son in law

"Ouch exclaimed Harit

"this is a real test of endurance Himani continued much to Teeku's mortification.

"she should have eaten he said coolly

"Your Mom said I cant Teeku began her first fight, though not quite Mrs Vaidya yet

"Teeku... will get u a juice Himani promised trying to deal with a hangry Avantika

"Huh he grunted

"Leejiye, pehnayiye the pandit handed the black beaded mangal sootra

He reached and hooked it in a second, and filled her forehead with vermillion

People cheered and clapped and the shehnai hummed noisily.

Himani was gawking at those moments holding Teeku's juice she went up to hug and kiss her daughter

"U took so long I am married now Avantika growled

Harit laughed out loud.

Married, and now begins the drama! but it was so sweet, I love the ceremonies, the traditions, the rituals, makes it so meaningful.
