trip tantrums
The passport arrived a week before their departure.
The evening before heading to the airport, Trisha and leela huddled in a corner looking at images on one of Leela's friend's
IG feed.
"I like purple... I like purple... I HATE the orange" Trisha gushed
"U know what you should do?" "say I mean?" Leela coached
Trisha nodded obediently
"Say EEE UUU" she said slowly

The girls giggled like silly teens
"Are u all packed?" Mandira poked her DIL
Trisha nodded still staring at the phone
"Trisha?" Mandira needed attention
Trisha immediately dropped her legs off the couch, and looked up
"Umm I packed morning only since I didnt go to college?" she explained
"I still see clothes drying in the service balcony" she reminded
"Oh just towel and a couple of things..."
"the red skirt is yours? Leela doesnt wear cotton skirts"
"YES I DO... I wear JCrew all the time and ANTHRO"
"I mean thats what I meant beta"
"I dont have her clothes... she has gorgeous cotton clothes" Leela looked at Trisha sadly
Mandira's plan to imply that her DIL's clothes were inexpensive backfired before it even ignited
"Ashvin will be home soon, you must leave at 9 if the flight's at 2 AM" she said firmly
"that soon?" Trisha asked confused
"Ashvin is very organized when it comes to trips" she said ina satisfied tone...
There will be so so so many things this girl doesnt know about MY son.
I know everything
She doesnt
That thought made her real happy in a childish sort of way.
She will still be "connected" to Ashvin and be the person that knows "most" about him
Trisha and Leela were back to giggling
"Trisha, did you pack sunscreen? Though its a beach, you shouldnt go out without sun screen"
"Umm.. weather will be good only according to Google"
"Did you know even cloudy skies can be harmful?" Mandira educated her DIL
"Umm.. I will buy" Trisha wanted her MIL to go away
"I can give you mine, come with me"
"I can take later?"
"Nahi, get up beta" Mandira was a lil stern
"MA... she is leaving already, please... bhai will be here soon and then I cant get to say a word even"
"Lee beta, utho, u havent applied that hair thing I brought for you, wear your cape and come down to my room beta"
"Maaa... tomorrow, Tri come back soon"
Ashvin walked in witnessing the argument between his mother and sis
"Hey kid..." he bend down and ruffled her hair
"Do u have to be gone for TENNN DAYS? U can do what u want to here " Leela mocked
"Umm.. no... not with you around" Ashvin grinned
"Have u heard of door locks?"
"No I havent" Ashvin mocked
"I dont care how long u are gone, can she come back soon?"
He laughed
Trisha returned with sunscreen and MIL in tow
"U know what u shud do?" Mandira quizzed
Trisha looked at Ashvin accusingly
"Packed?" he asked tapping her cheeks
"Kahan? half her clothes are drying out there... she has no sun screen.. she does have a rain parka" Mandira listed
"ashwinnn" Trisha cooed
"We can get what she doesnt have"
"But what about whats hers?" Mandira waved towards the service balcony
Trisha was in his room tucking the sun screen into her cabin bag
"U always have to put tubes in ziploc" Mandira waved a finger
mandira went to get one for her
"Did u need me?" he teased grabbing her
"U dont say anything na?"
"About whattt?" he was baffled
"I mean so many things Trisha is not doing?" Trisha accused
"Umm.. shud I ?"
"No, just let her keep telling me" Trisha was pissed
He kissed her neck
"u dont help me... be like this only OK?.. u will get nothing only" she mumbled, threatening to starve him, pulling away, eyeing the
door as Mandira approached with a ziploc bag carton
He laughed hysterically
