Chapter 26: The Heart's True Strength

Arnav got up. It was quite a dark room. He noticed that he was under someone's bed. This spot looked eerily familiar. He tried to get out of the space and realized it was Khushi's room. It was the same bed under which he had hidden. He saw himself in the mirror. But wait, it was his younger self. There were tears in his eyes. Arnav realized this was the same memory where Khushi had talked to her friends about him.

He looked around himself and to his surprise he saw Khushi on the other side of the room. He ran to her to turn her around. She was crying.

"Is this how things work Arnav?"

Arnav looked at her confused.

"I know you are hurt but are you going to push me away every single time I try to come near you" Khushi said as she came close to him with anger evident in her eyes.

Arnav responded, "But Khushi, I'm just trying to protect you."

Khushi's anger increased as she pushed Arnav back and further questioned, "And who are you to protect me?"

"Your husband."

Khushi came closer to Arnav and caught him by his collar and pulled him flush against her.

"And what the hell does that even mean to you? Do you think all I need is a man with a credit card who is just a good friend?"

Arnav noticed his close proximity to her. His breathing became rugged and uneven. Khushi looked him in the eye and asked "Why are you breathing heavily? I'm just some responsibility to you right. Why are you affected by me?"

Arnav opened his mouth but no words came out.

Why was he still feeling? He never felt love ever again after the day his parents died. But was that because he couldn't love anyone else or was it because he couldn't love anyone else except the one person he had long given his heart to.

"Khushi..." he breahed,

Khushi pushed him and started running. Suddenly he noticed that they were standing in his garden in Delhi. Arnav ran through the garden chasing after her. He saw her standing a few feet from her. And suddenly he crashed into something.

It was the tree Khushi planted. The base of it seemed like it was glowing. He went down on his knees and there he noticed something that was carved onto the tree itself. It shocked him so much that he got up with a jolt.

He was still sitting on his chair and he was sweating.

"It was a dream."

Or was it.

He got up from his chair. Logic went through the window as he wanted to make sure what he saw was just his imagination. He hadn't taken a lot of time to inspect that tree Khushi had gotten planted.

But his dream had made him restless. He had to know.

It was raining heavily but Arnav didn't care for it. As he ran through the garden, he got drenched. He used to love it when it rained. It was in the rain that he could freely cry and no one will be able to see his tears nor judge him. It was the rain that kept him company all these years.

As he finally reached the tree he stopped. Today he wasn't sure if he needed the rain to hide his tears.

It was quite dark and he could barely see. He got down on his knees and used his hand to graze the trunk of the tree. Suddenly his hands stopped as he came in contact with the engraving. He pulled out his phone and switched on the flash.

It was there. The same thing he saw in his dreams.

Engraved on the tree were the words "Khushi loves Arnav"

And his tears fell. He didn't know how to control himself and fell against the tree. His arms wrapped around the tree hoping that she was here. He hugged the tree as tight as he could. He needed her.

Arnav needed Khushi.

And so he shouted with all the energy he could muster "KHHUUUSSHIII..."

Though the shout was hardly loud for the rest of the family in Shantivan to hear, the heart's strength is such that it carried all the way into the bedroom of a certain princess in Sheesh Mahal.

Khushi got up from her bed with a start.

Note:
Ok. I used to think that nothing would top the fact that I had to correct people that I am a guy. But a few of last week's comments need to be addressed. I don't think there is a word yet that talks about man equality like feminism does. Maybe Man-empowerment😆?

There were some comments that caught me by surprise. Some of you were surprised that "Men too feel. And that too this deeply?".

Well all I want to say that everything that has a heart inside, feels. Though our biology is different than girls (The Y-chromosome etc etc) there are still things that make us humans.

Men do feel. And in matters of the heart, be it for family, friends or "the one", our feelings go quite deep too. The difference between men and women is that Men don't really share as openly as women do. Call it ego, pride, or whatever you want. Men don't let anyone else see their vulnerability. Only the ones in the innermost circle will truly know. To the rest we have to show a stronger front. The problem is if we show our vulnerable side, we are considered weak. The thing we guys never seem to understand is that just because we feel, it doesn't make us weak. It makes us human. It gives us immense strength.

But you will never see us admitting that. We just aren't that vocal about our feelings. It's hard to compute our feelings into words. That's why a lot of cliches are used. Though they are cliches, they are classics. So yeah Men do feel deeply. We just don't do a good job of putting that across.

I truly love the way you write.. I'm still a little confused about how each one is handling the situation and if Arnav's reaction is bit too extreme.. but with the current update I think I'm beginning to understand how they both feel.. I always read ur AN it kinda helps me figure things out better.. and wait for the next one. So thank you..
