First she decided to place Sahana by her, so she can feel her skin close to hers after the ordeal
Ved pretended his "thoppe hurt" (belly) and then Sid and then she felt bad for Nivi who had received a quiet but firm talking down from R&B
She lay in bed, her eyes extremely tired body achy and cold but unable to go to sleep
He read a book on the couch in the master bedroom
The dogs whimpered below the bed
"Hey how come every one is up there and not us?"
They licked and scampered around R&B hoping he wud pick them up and place them among royalty on the bed
"We have 4 legs and they have 2, its all abt the legs dude" James croaked
"No its not" Chuck shivered... "they love us man"
"Sure" James sniffled and nibbled R&B's foot
He picked the guy up
"What do u want?" he asked'
James turned to the bed and barked
"Umm.. there isnt enough room on the bed" he lied
He barked again
Ranjan peeked/knocked
"DADOOO" Ved screamed
Sat up in bed the blanket clear over his head
Sahana who had just begun dozing sat up too
The family that had taken her in had given her a hand knit skull cap in multicolor yarn, with three pom poms on top
She wore it until bed time
The boys wanted it, so they pulled it off her head and it was quite the scene
Nivi got off the bed, followed by the twins
"So gaye ne?" Ranjan enquired softly
II got off the bed
Thankfully fully clothed
"Arey nahi Dad I came up to bed, charon mere paas aa gaye" she lied
"dadu paas soyegi aaj?" he picked up Sahan
She reached for her face object, his glasses, he let her
"PLEASEEE" II nodded joining hands in prayer
"Amma I sweep by you" Ved told her
"Seri da"
She signaled R&B to say something to his Dad
"U can sleep on this floor if u like" he muttered
Ranjan nodded, overcome with emotion
"Mavvy ne dadu ke liye hot chocolate banaya seega, tussi peyyoge?" he cooed to Sahana nibbling her fat cheeks
The dogs went beserk, they loved Ranjan and Sahana equally... well they feared Sahana
The talk of food made them delirious
Mavvy showed by the door with many mugs and a pile of cookies
She kissed him back "sissy?" she said (Kissy)
"Wah je waah, khoob meetha" he kissed her again
"Dad brush bhi kara denge?" she asked
Ranjan smiled, the three followed him
Ved pulled his jammies up every two seconds sucked his thumb "Amma I sweep by u" he said waving a wet finger
"OK da" she smiled back
"Amma can I also sleep on this floor?" Nivi asked
II nodded.. "Inge va" she urged
Nivi returned
"Daddee kochindala kozhandaya?"(did he scold u?) II whispered gathering her daughter and hugging her
Nivi began to cry
R&B grunted staring at them, pretending to read his tome
"She is sooo little no?" II whispered
"Amma she is sooo naughty" Nivi whined
"I KNOWWW kanna" she agreed
"I mean the twins and her. They never listen to me. They always bring the dog into my room, their feet are dirty, they sit on my bed" Nivi listed off
"shh shhh shhh" II rocked her
"Vedu broke my pencil sharpener, my binder is not for his art work, Greg laughed at me" she said horrified
"Well, Greg doesnt have twin brothers so its OK" II advised
"Last weekend when he came, Siddu came out of the toilet with his underwear on" Nivi said loudly
R&B chuckled
"Serii puriyardu da" (I get it)" II sat up, yawning
They keep knocking on my door, even when I am busy" she said haughtily
"they dont know u are busy... BTW, u are only 13 how can u be "busy" II gently teased
"Amma I dont want to play with them always" she claimed
"Paavam da they want to be let in" she explained
"They know everything I have in my room, what is there to see?" Nivi was baffled
"who knows? They are babies no? They think the more u hide there is more to see" II hugge dher daughter
"Well... its rude" Nivi said sniffling, cuddling with her Amma
"They think u are a celebrity" II flattered Nivi
"No they dont" Nivi was sure "they just want to follow me" she rolled her eyes
"Sahana opened my lip gloss and applied it all over the bathroom floor" she said
"She thinks its a crayon raja" II had no excuses left. Her lil ones were monsters
She spent the better part of everyday trying to teach the boys and Sahana how to respect Nivi's privacy, trying to teach Nivi how kids are
"There are finger prints all over my door" Nivi cringed
"Paavam dee, when u shut the door they feel neglected" II chuckled
"Sahana answered GREG'S CALL" Nivi accused
"Bummer" R&B chuckled gleefully
"Its not funny Daddy... nobody's brothers or sisters answer their phones" she waved a finger
"really?" he couldnt contain his smirk
Nivi stiffened as she detected R&B's contempt
"Please da... shut up" II begged
"I didnt plan to lose the baby" Nivi said primly
R&B shifted uneasily he wanted to say something

"Its OK, she was safe, she is with us now" Ii hugged her
"U know once many many years ago, when Amma went to Paris she got lost too" she smiled
Nivi looked at her attentively
"I took the wrong train, didnt take my cell phone and spent a bunch of hours being lost" II squeezed Nivi
"How did u get home?" Nivi fingered her mangal sootra that nestled on her cleft
"Well Daddee found me and scolded me all night long" she laughed
"He was mean to u too?" Nivi asked in teen angst
"Umm... he was no mean raja he is concerned, he is paranoid. His heart beats for u 4. Dadooo, you 4" II sighed
Nivis face broke into a smile "He always asks Dadoo to sit down when he is talking on the phone" Nivi remembered "And always makes sure Mavvy uncle makes his dinner nice and hot"
II nodded choked up at the lil girl's observations. There were many signs of how much he cared for his 70+ year old father.
In almost invisible quiet ways
"And the dogs" II laughed "If they were here they wud accuse me of not loving them" II told Nivi abt the dogs
"Mimika your bomeeta" Sid brought her chocolate
Its spilled all the way to the bed
"Yennn daaa?" II was distraught
"I ate some of ur cookie" he handed her a melty half eaten gooey mess
"Euuu" I dont want that"
"Niviii" II scolded
"Amma he drooled all over it" Nivi was adamant
R&B dragged his son closer and took a bite off the gooey mess
"Where is Amma's share?" Hmmm?" he nuzzled his son
"Amma taaachi" (she is asleep) Sid claimed
Ranjan brought hers, he brought R&B and himself a cocktail
The kids swirled around, and cackled
II shut her eyes after her drinking her hot choc... slowly floating away
Ranjan took the kids and left the room, shutting the door as it locked...
The dogs realized it was curfew time they followed Ranjan hoping to be fed some random junk before bed
R&B slid in beside her, holding her close
"Thats for going batting for me" he whispered kissing her neck
"I was just lying" she lied
"I wondered" he whispered chuckling at her unwillingness to admit she knew he cared for them
sliding over her purposefully parting her legs, beginning to kiss her
"Did u notice how pointedly I left myself out from the list of all those u cared abt?" she gasped after the kiss
"I didnt" he lied groaning, nipping her neck
