Sonal hope your mom and brother in law feel better soon. Yes it's disheartening to read the situation in Delhi. Hope things get back to normal soon. Take care

Raising a teen as they strive to become more independent takes them a little away from parents as their world expands, when they try to become their own individuals , the whole bunch of changes physical, emotional and intellectual leads often to rebellion and conflict with the parents and most definitely between the parents too. Each parent has his or her own style.

Trust too is I feel is independent. It's also while one parent's trust on certain matters is high , it could be a slightly diff set of matters that the other parent is able to trust his child on and this leads to conflicts between parents themselves . My personal opinion on this is that Trust is always levels or Degrees. I mean it cannot be whole. While I would trust my daughter's judgement to keep good company in the choice of her friends, in the company, I wouldn't trust her blindly with the car keys yet. Two yrs bk I remember I was jittery to give her a set of house keys . Now it's no matter at all. In that sense she has gained our trust by being responsible. But I don't trust her with the car yet. Therefore she has to work to earn our trust and she is well aware that no tantrums for her own car would work until she gives us the feeling that she's ready as it's also matter of building skill with utmost safety awareness. That expectation is already set .
Drugs, smoking, alchohol , teen sex as big a problem is still pales today when we compare it to the stuff that happens social media. I feel children learn to read expectation of parents though we don't necessarily spell it for them. But unfortunate today the expectations and the upbringing we give to our children have to compete with peer pressure and ill effects of social media where they feel the necessity to make an online identity at this age more .

Anyways I'm going on a diff tangent . To come bk to the story, II trusts Nivi when it comes to affairs of the heart while she continuously barks on her when it comes to other matters that require her to reach discipline whereas for Dude he's cool with what Nivi does or says but isn't ready to give the freedom when it comes to boys. I don't know if the meaningful intrinsic convos and understanding that he has normally with his daughter extends to this topic too. His history isn't that great when it comes to his posssiveness . Trust can't be blind and should not be too. But when it's paranoia that every boy standing in the vicinity of his bungalow at MM is only out there in the world to get his daughter , it doesn't help... trust suffers.

Hi sonal, hope all well now. Delhi is really becoming pathetic by the day. Smog, etc issues. But living away one always views the city you have spent innumerable great moments in, with kindness and longing.
