Roller coaster

Amma called Varsha after obtaining the number from Suvi.
That happened after Mamiji spoke with Suvi for over an hour

After Mamiji's call on Sunday, Mamaji and Amma called her on Monday to ask if she would come over for dinner with her Tai.
Suvi's heart sank... she wasnt even sure how Tai was going to take this news. She herself was reeling under tremendous shock

Mamiji had explained to her how she did not know "how to approach" such a situation

"Hum Neel ki taareef saari raat kar paayenge, par aapko meri baat par yaqeen karne ki koshish shaayad itni achhi tarah nahi kar paayenge" Mamiji admitted

"Aunty mere paas koi hey nai aisi baat ke waaste" Suvie xplained

"Aap dono ek doosre ko jaanti hai, saath kaam karte hain, is maamle mein bahut cheezon ke baare mein sochna padega" she said firmly

"Yes aunty" Suvi nodded "Shaayad Nihar se bhi nai poochha aapne?" Suvi questioned

"Nihar se hum baat karenge, Ruchi karengi, Neel karenge, Jiji" Mamiji listed

"Itne saare log?" Suvi was certainly deflated

"Aapko himmat nahi haarni chahiye" Mami said

The fact was Suvi didnt "hope" for anything. She knew she couldnt, the prospect of spending the rest of her life with Neel was thrilling.
Thrilling would be an understatement... but the possibility of it actually happening, she knew, held extremely small odds.

She was going with the flow as if it was an amusement park ride, like the ones Varsha mentioned in Singapore

Varsha had described how the churn began in the pit of her stomach and swirled up to her heart and converted it to a jello and sent a huge volume of blood to the brain

This was like those rides for Suvi

Getting off at some point was a certainty

"Main baat karegi aunty?" she offered, hoping to prolong the thrill

If Nihar said yes, then she could ride it whenever she wanted

She couldnt believe she was begging a man's aging aunt, she would convince the man's son to approve of him marrying her


"Get in line" she told the thought... "there are so many bizarre events that have happened in my life since I got a new boss, talking to a 11 year old features on the bottom of any such list

"Neel aise hi kisi ko pasand karenge nahi, yeh baat sabhi ghar par jaante hain" Mami said firmly

Suvi smiled softly... it meant a lot to her

The fact that she was so special to have been chosen by a man like Neel

A man with such a close knit loving family

She was greedy for it
She actually wanted the family more than she wanted Neel

She had tried to recollect the words the clothes the laughter since she had returned from Pind Baluchi

She was too embarrassed to ask for a selfie, she could have used a selfie

The smells of chandan and simplicity

The crisp kota sarees, the pallus wrapped around the shoulders
The amiable warmth and cheer

"Zaroor keejiye baat" Mami said excited "Aap itni dari sekhmi hain... ek baat kahenge, hum... zara zor se taaqat se karen aap baat" mami laughed

Suvi laughed shyly

"Kal unke maa ke sthaan mein rahengi, to itne dar se kya kaam ban paayega?" Mami smiled

His family liked and trsuted her unequivocally... as if all they cared about was "Neel likes her" she MUST be an angel

Mami spoke OF her and TO her like she was one in a million

She had handedVarsha's number akwardly... not knowing if she should forewarn Varsha


And then after staying up all night on Monday decided she wouldnt call Varsha

She wanted to see how Varsha would react

When Amma called her she got Varsha's VM

Twice? Thrice... Varsha returned Amma's call, much to Amma's chagrin on WEDNESDAY

"Mere ko is number se call aaya" Varsha said in bad Hindi

"Hum Mrs Pandit.. beta... aapke sister ke...(boss ki ma?) aapke sister ko jaante hain" Amma said instead checking herself

"Suvi ka neighbor?" Varsha asked

"Nahi... hum NOIDA rehte hain" Amma smiled

"Umm..." Varsha was confused

"Hamara... umm... hamare bete Neel ko jaanti hain Suvechha" Amma said

"OK?" Varsha said as a boy screamed in the back

"Humne suna aap expect kar rahin hai dobaara? Congrats" Amma smiled

"Thanks" Varsha said making a face... acting as if her prvacy was breached

"Woh Neel aur Suvechha ek doosre ko jaante hain... aur pichhle ek mahiney mein kaafi samajh chuke hain... ek doosre ko" Amma took many deep breaths to give herself some oxygen

"OK?" Varsha was suspecting where this was going

"Suvechha ne kaha, bus aap unki sister hain" Amma said

"Barobar" Varsha said

"Neel aur Suvechha ki shaadi ki baat karne ke liye humne kiya" Amam finsihed

Varsha just literally let the phone slip out of her hand... as if she was flung out of a roller coaster

AYYYOOO...this roller coaster ride was too much for me !1

Belated happy birthday Nisha

For quite some time... ..I've been dreading to buy a ticket for this roller coaster ride... Just the thought of it made me feel queasy . I've been dreading to read this part when varsha would have to be informed.
It's one of those life situations where You knowthat you really don't want to really do something but propriety demands that it be done. Conventionally accepted standards of behavior can seldom be overlooked. I wish we could bypass all the bottlenecks suvi has and go straight to the wedding... No there's no escaping that bitter pill .

But who said life was fair? Coming to think of it it's also may be true that as I read somewhere that the problem is not that life isn't unfair but it's our broken idea of fairness.

Varsha... For once let your sister be the Cinderella who does not have to let go of her golden carriage and her glass slippers. Graciousness is the call of the hour and we neither need pumpkins nor vain and selfish sisters.

It was a fabulous Bday
Ate Asian for lunch and we went to a nearby lake to canoe and paddle board with friends on a 100F/40C burning hot day.

Cant celebrate Bdays without thinking of those who wont get Birthdays anymore

Life is a bitch for so many... including our dearest Nivi

I dont drink... otherwise it would all make sense to me, I know...

Mamig is so sweet
