Part 3

The doctor arrived. She checked Khushi and gave her an injection. She frowned looking at Khushi. Khushi was snoring. All were looking at the doctor impatiently.

Arnav: How is she?

Doctor: I have given an injection. She will be alright within few hours. Mr.Raizada I want to talk to you.

All the family members went out to give them privacy.

Doctor: Does she sleep so much everyday?

Arnav was confused by the question.

Arnav: No

Doctor: Does she take any pills for sleep?

Arnav: No

Doctor looked at him.

Doctor: Then why didn't she get up when I gave her injection? Usually people sleep for so long only when they are under the control of any drug, like sleeping pills.

Arnav was shocked was an understatement.

Arnav was not sure if Khushi took pills. My marriage harmed her so much!!

Doctor: I should do her blood tests.

Arnav: Ok.

He let the doctor take her blood samples. He searched in her room for the bottle of pills, but it was nowhere.

The wardrobe!!!!!!!!!!

He opened the wardrobe and saw the bottle. It had one or two tablets left. His eyes became moist. He couldn't believe that Khushi was taking these.

The doctor went. Payal was too worried.

Payal: What did she say?

Arnav: Nothing Payal, she said that we need to take care of her.

He lied not wnting her to be tensed in this condition.

Payal: Then why did she speak to you alone?

Arnav: You are pregnant right Payal, she didn't want you to worry much.

Payal frowned.

Payal: Really?

Arnav: Yes Payal. Don't worry Khushi is fine.

Payal was somewhat convinced now.

Payal: You aren't lying right?

Arnav: No Payal, Khushi is alright. You people go, I am here with Khushi.

They agreed. He sat beside her on the bed.

What did you do Khushi!!!

He caressed her hair. He felt very bad for her now.

After an hour,

He could not see her like this. He wanted to remove his frustration badly. His eyes became moist when he saw the sleeping pills bottle. There were only 2 left indicating that she had taken eight tablets already. But how many bottles did she empty?

He covered his face with his hands.

Why Khushi?

If you weren't comfortable you could have said me. Why are you punishing yourself?

He could not meet his eyes with her. He looked at the photo frame in which he was present. He could feel how much she had awaited for him. He couldn't stay there anymore.

He saw Nani passing by the room and called her.

Arnav: Nani will you please stay with Khushi for some time.

Nani: Sure bitua.

He thought of going to his room, but he knew that Sanchi would be in his room, and he needed privacy. He went to his study. While going to his study room, he saw Di.

Anjali: How is Khushiji, chotte?

Arnav: Aapko kya faraq padta hai? (Why does it matter to you?)

Anjali's face became dull. He didn't treat her like before. He hardly looks at her nowadays. She could see him gritting his teeth.

You are the reason for all these Di!!! He thought.

I wish I could hate you..

He gave a final stare at Anjali and marched to his study.

He hit the boxing bag hard another time. His hand was paining but yet it was nothing compared to Khushi's pain.

Does she take any pills? Like sleeping pills?

The doctor's question rang on his ears. He shut his eyes when he remembered her sleeping inside the wardrobe holding his photo. He hit the boxing bag once more, until he felt a hand on his shoulder.

Akash: Bhai stop..you are hurting yourself.

He stopped.

Akash: Bhai come sit.

Arnav: Akash please leave me alone.

Akash: No bhai.

Arnav finally had to agree. He sit on his sofa beside Akash.

Akash: I know you are stressed bhai. But don't get upset like this.

Arnav: How Akash? How can I not be upset when I found her in the wardrobe, and..

Arnav stopped realizing that he shouldn't reveal about the pills or else everyone will be upset, especially Payal.

Akash: And?

Arnav: Fever

He quickly blurted out something that came into his mind.

Arnav: She is very upset with the marriage.

He gulped his throat.

Akash: So are we, except for Di.

Arnav sighed.

Arnav: Sadly she is my sister.

He said sarcastically.

"I don't know how to face Khushi. She doesn't share her feelings with anyone. She keeps holding it to herself. i didn't realize till today that she was in so much of pain" he said to Akash.

Akash: Bhai..dont be sad. I know its difficult, but still bhai, you need to face her. I will make sure that today you get to clear your doubts and misunderstanding. No one will be in home except for you both. You need some privacy.

Arnav: Thanks Akash. But how will you convince Di?

Akash: Leave it to me. And bhai, one advice, ask her(Khushi) about her feelings, make her feel comfortable, and atmost make her happy. Don't run from her. She loves you a lot bhai..she can do anything for your happiness.

Akash left from the room leaving him alone.

Arnav: She is my happiness.,he murmured.

She slowly opened her eyes at late afternoon. She couldn't see anything properly. She could see some person sitting there. Her blurred vision became clear. She saw him. She could not believe her eyes. Arnav was happy when he saw her opening her eyes.

Am I dreaming? How did I come to the bed?

She tried to sit properly, but she couldn't. He helped her to be seated. Their eyes met.

She slowly released her hand from his grip. She could feel herself becoming weak in his presence.

Khushi: You here?

Arnav touched her forehead with his palm to check if the fever had become less. It was normal. He was relieved.

Arnav: Why did you do this?

Khushi was confused.

Khushi: What?

She didn't meet her eyes with him.

He touched her chin and made her look at him.

Arnav showed the bottle of pills to her. She was shocked would be an understatement. Her eyes were moist.

Khushi was fumbling for words.

Arnav: Why don't you share anything with me Khushi? Why didn't you say that Di forced you?

She looked at him confused.

Khushi: How did you come to know?

Arnav(cupping her face): You think I would never come to know? Today morning, Nk told me everything. You know how I felt seeing you inside the wardrobe? Do you realize it? Do you realize how I felt when I saw that sleeping pills in your wardrobe? Do you realize damn it?

He blasted, but softly.

Khushi was dumbstruck.

You love me!!! She felt happy when she saw the concern for her in his eyes, in his words.

She could not control her emotions anymore.

Khushi: I didn't..kn.. she couldn't speak much. A lone tear fell from her eye.

He wiped the tear droplet slowly from his thumb.

Arnav: Khushi promise me that you will never take the sleeping pills again.

She nodded her head. He kissed her forehead.

She hugged him with all her strength. He caressed her hair. She had missed him from so many days.

He slowly broke the hug and cupped her face, wiping her tears with his thumb and placed a soft kiss on her cheek. A small smile appeared on her face.

Khushi-' I had been for a walk that day and the people started speaking of us...

She couldn't even complete her sentence, her eyes became moist.

Arnav- you need not pay attention to what people say.

He kissed her forehead. She looked into his eyes.

Khushi- do you still love me like before?

He didn't expect such question from her.

What do my eyes say,? He asked. She became quiet.

Arnav- I still love you like before and I will do so in future also

She was happy to hear that from him.

Khushi- but usually people love their second wife.more.. She stopped when she felt his finger on her lips.

Arnav-but not me ..I love you and only you.. Thats all. Her all doubts cleared. He slowly carried her to their room.

As soon as he went near the door of his room, Khushi stopped him.

Arnav: What happened?

Khushi: Its not my room. Its yours and San..chi's

She gulped her throat feeling the pain.

Arnav: Shutup. Its OUR room.

He stressed the word OUR purposely.

Khushi: But Sanchi..

Arnav: Firstly i dont consider her as my wife, secondly no one is in home..only you and me, they will return by tomorrow.

Khushi agreed.

She could hear his soft snores. Yes, his snores did disturb her sleep but she was happy today. What mattered to her was that she was with her husband in her room, in her bed.

She felt his strong arms on her tummy and his chin touching her ear. He slept hugging her from behind. She missed him from a long time. A smile appeared on her face.

She closed her eyes trying her level best to sleep inspite his snores. Today she had a peaceful sleep, without any worries.
