Link in a chain

Morning dawned sunny and bright

Ragini made chai and toast, a fave UP pre breakfast snack

Toast on tava... with ghee

Bhuvan wandered aimlessly until Neel woke

Nihar was knocked out until Noon thanks to dinner party at Gagan's

"Aise to chalega nahi" Bhuvan began talking softly in the terrace

"Abhi saal bhar hua hai" Ragini looked up at the sky to catch a glimpse of her daughter

"Jinko peechhe chhod gayin woh unki haalat bhi to khushiyon waali nahi"

"Kaise rahegi?" Ragini begged

If it was legal and if they had a divorce, Bhuvan would have picked Neel... he loved him so much

Just like Neels' Amma picked Nupur

Such was the love...

Maybe thats exactly why it was so shortlived?

"Preet ko Nupur ne bheja shaayad" Bhuvan smiled

Ragini did not...

"Nupur ko nahi jaana chahiye tha" she began to cry

Bhuvan cried softly too

"I know what you are thinking... but its going to be impossible for me to find him a bride"

"Lekin raat ko?" Bhuvan stopped shocked

"I was insane... I dont know what I was thinking" Ragini sobbed

"Would you rather Neel be the only person in a room full of 30 somethings with no spouse and just a child?"

Ragini shook her head in agony

"But by him remarrying,... Neel woh kadi hai jo hame Nupur se jodti hai Bhuvan... kaise todey hum us kadi ko?" she pleaded

Bhuvan's shoulders slumped

"The fact that we are here is so wrong... we wouldnt even be in NOIDA... everything is wrong

Us being awake at 5 AM unable to sleep... sitting in a strange rental bungalow in UP... without Nupur's chatter" Ragini explained

"Aapko itna mehsoos ho raha hai Neel ka sochen zara"

"Kabhi to hamey selfishly apni sochne diya karen Bhuvan" she shouted angrily

"Aap nahi hai slefish Ragini... u are selfless... you care for Neel and Nihar... your angst stems from the fact that your daughter left your son in law half way... or even 10% of the journey

"10 saal bhi koi count hota hai Bhuvan? Aapko yaad hai when we were married for 10 years?"

Bhuvan shook his head

"Its al a blur... bache hue... I went from a hospital job to a clinic job, Amma Bauji guzre... thinking about one of us being gone?" Ragini wondered stunned "Such thoughts never occured"

Bhuvan sniffled

"Here he is... married, fathered a child and widowed all within 10 years"

"We have to find a way for him to be happy" Bhuvan said firmly

"I am not so noble Bhuvan" Ragini said vehemently

"Aapki beti ki yaad mein agle 50 saal kaat dein? kya Neel?" he challenged

"Shaayad" Ragini nodded gasping... all choked up

"Seeing him alone and miserable, will somehow bring you peace?" Bhuvan asked

"He loves her too much" Ragini was sure

"Maante hai hum" he said wiping more tears

"Nihar ki sochen aap... there are too many negative reinforcements everywhere... step Moms are evil... agar Nihar ko ignore karey? Raat ko bhooka sulaye?" Ragini was terrified

"tch tch tch tch" Bhuvan shushed her

"How will Neel even come to know? Hamesha to Preet ke padosi honge nahi..." Ragini speculated

"Dont let your fear swallow you" Bhuvan scolded

"I dont know any examples of happy, well adjusted healthy kids" Ragini sulked

"Aap Doctor hain... you must have seen cases"

"Dekhe na... of the economically disadvantaged families where the men take on second wives and the child is malnoursihed and depressed"

"I dont think Neel will be indifferent"

She was unable to nod

"Agar Nihar ko woh pasand nahi aayi... its not like a toy that can be returned" Ragini aired her next fear

"Its a long steep climb Ragini... I see myself happily married for 33 years... I see a forlorn Neel" Bhuvan said compassionately

"What if he forgets Nupur?" Ragini demanded "If the new woman is wonderful... at some point... he is going to let go of our daughter"

Bhuvan nodded... he had no defense to that statement

A very real worry that any mother could have ...that her child will be stored away in some memory box and brought out for a couple of days , dusted and put away again. 😭

I try to place myself in Ragini's place and wonder if I would be able to think or do otherwise. And it would be hitting closer to home when they see the attraction Neel feels for Suvi.

I had mentioned in my previous post that this couple might play Cupid, but the hard and rocky road ahead seems a bit daunting after reading this update

And would Bhuvan be able to persuade his wife to think otherwise when none of them have actually recovered from Nupur's passing.

The monsters hidden deep down surface. We are steeped in stereotypes that sometimes even the truth do glaring in front of us goes in noticed or gets brushed under the carpet. While Bhuvan sees Neel as a son and is treated so by Neel to Doc he still is her daughter's husband. The mind latches on to all the negatives and finds its sweet spot in memories. Truth may be hard to digest but we eventually have to let go...I am so in love with Bhuvan all compassionate and empathetic.. I see him as a male version of O when it comes to the attachment they both share for the Son in law...some how it reminded me of The Patriarch of Malcha Marg... It is confusions such as these that make life very colourful I guess.

Fear of letting go, so natural and so so true. It can't be easy can it to break the existing link? But Dr. Ragini the link won't be broken, because there is someone who is craving to be a part of the link, waiting to be loved, cared for and give equal measures or perhaps more of love and care back. Let love flow, rest will take care of itself.

And as for Suvi, you and I would have to get into the pages of ID and state her case to Ragini to push the envelope forward...at least at the pace we want 😊

Mrs. Mishra's fears are real and tangible. But here I think convincing suvi will be the most difficult task. Coz she is so broken from inside that I m sure amma n ragini will definitely take her under their protective wings once they know the real her ..

Loved the title link in the chain. The last two updates , the feelings portrayed , the emotions involved of the Misras have been as close to real as it could be.
Ragini misra's fear of the chain snapping cannot be disputed as is Bhuvan misra's practicality, may be I should rephrase it to that of as a resigned acceptance to look ahead.

When we look at life by itself as a chain of events, death as an event and the circumstances it creates is an impudent /unwanted visitor that snaps the link, throws you off the trail in the bushes.
The cog in the wheel which was rather insignificant in the scheme of things earlier now getting it's due respect, it's Like putting a value to that cog doing it's job of keeping the wheel functional.
And only few are fortunate enough to
Snap back the link in the chain in place to get up from the bushes and join the trail of life.
