DIFFERENT STROKES DIFFERENT FOLKS

Written after reading the disturbing news of a young life snapping after clearing IIT entrance and mulling over the happenings in the lives around

Parents are vested with exclusive rights we think

We want a say in every matter ...even in the lives of grown ups

We treat our homes as fiefdoms to exert our sway

Fall in line tow my stance or be disinherited

Come on our education needs to widen our view our experience better sense instil

Primitive and Parochial our views and stances

Negotiations and dialogue a forgotten art we want our way in all matters

The garb they wear the course they pursue the job location they opt

The spouse they choose

If what you need is another chance to re script your life why thrust it on another

Bide your time till you are reborn and relive and reinvent yourself

Spare the youth they have a dream to pursue a life to live

No dear O...I have written before ...have been busy with work and donning the care giver mantle...Now i have a few weeks break from work and a dear friend's plea that i should commence my writing prompted me to do so as i can't ignore those that love and care for me...
Have sent you a PM...Asma was excited going on her anniversary dinner and looking forward to the long weekend. Await her return like you.

Oh please please... pick SOMETHING!!

She dropped the mug on her kurta accidentally

"Kuch bhi nahi" she said

She lacked confidence, she was nervous, she constantly second guessed herself and there was noone to boost her morale
He made her feel like a queen when he looked at her and made love to her

A delirious happiness over took her, she couldnt recall the last time anybody ever asked her what she wanted

"How about you watch Aadhya until Noon on a Sunday and I get to sleep?"

"How about when the maid if off I dont have to do dishes or laundry or clean the toilet?"

"How about when I feel like some one is knocking on the door at mid night, you open the door, or when Aadhya and I return from Mumbai, or someplace (she hadnt gone on any serious vacation in years)
at night, some one opens the door first and enters since I am afraid to step into an empty house?

"Someone stay up with me when Aadhya is sick and throwing up? Walk down to the society gate and hail a rickshaw? at 2 AM?"

"Do u like chocolates?" he asked looking into her eyes

"Aadhya ke liye laati hai main, to khaati hoon, waise nahi" she said somberly

"Whats your favorite food?" he asked

She lowered her gaze "Fish in coconut gravy" she said

He gently reached and felt her lower lip, when she met his gaze again

"Spicy?" he asked

" Barobar" she whispered quivering unable to let go of his glue like gaze

She pushed the hand away
Aadhya was playing on her phone (which Neel returned)

"Do u like flowers?" he asked

She looked up at him... "Gajra?" she asked

She LOVED flowers, Aai pinned home strung gajras, she even got Varsha's share since Varsha hated them

"Roses" he said softly

She shook her head, and body, and shook her head again... confused

Her only benchmarks, whatever she had watched in movies

Rutwik never sent or bought flowers for her (she was desperately throwing herself at him he didnt have to)
And the office hook up hoped to pay her for a threesome so no flowers there either

"Aisa kuch manga to mere dabbe kabhi nahi milega"
He laughed out loud for the first time

She watched his neck and his teeth and his jaw, he had a mole under his chin

"U love your containers that much?" he asked (why would any one refuse ROSES?)

"Aai ka hai dabba" she said, some unannounced visitors creeping behind her eyeballs, transparent and sparkling

He realized why she loved those inanimate objects so much

"Will you text me tonight?" he begged
"Kis topic par?" she asked seriously

She took everything literally, matter of fact...

She didnt have the big city art of making pointless conversations

He thought if she were in charge Mumbai would be bar less
Nobody would get picked up, no drinkis would be bought "for that man in the black tee" "that lady in the orange saree"
No wasteful conversations about cricket or Shiv Sena politics

"I can tell you how the aloo baingan is" he offered

"Gurpreet sounds like she is a Punjabi? Punjaban?" Suvi hesitated (shes probabaly a fabulous cook so dont be bitching about her to me!!)

"How about I tell you why my week was lousy?" he offered

"MERE KO?" she asked ( I am nobody to you, why would you open up to ME? You dont have to... you know if its only for sex later... so tedious)

"Aap mujhe batayen Nihar ne aapse kya baat ki?" was his third offer

Her eyes finally lit up...
