Chapter -4

To say that Jeevika was scared would be an understatement. There were only a couple of hours left till Mr. Vadhera's class and she was already ready to bite her nails.

"Jeevika? Are you okay?" Sahil enquired. Aditi and Shreya both turned to look at her.

"Yes. I am Fine."

"You don't look fine."

"No I am Okay!"

Just as Sahil was about to say something, Aditi intervened, "Scared of Mr. Vadhera's class eh? I take it you have never been thrown out of a classroom before?"

"Never. It was a first for me."

"Well not for me. I think I have spent more time roaming the halls in school than inside the classroom," Sahil Laughed. "Listen Relax! He won't eat you up. He's just a teacher."

"And a pretty good one at that too. After you two left he started teaching again. He maybe an asshole but I think he knows everything. Like literally everything!" Aditi cooed.

"Also he isn't bad to look at" Shreya continued with a wink.

Before she knew it was 3o Clock again. Even before Mr. Vadhera entered the class everyone was in pin drop silence. So much so that even though it was a room full of 50 students the tick tock of the clock could be heard loud and clear.

"Turn to page 394." He commanded as he entered the class and strode to the podium with long swift steps. "All phones on Silent and all eyes on me. There are pictures on that page of various historic figures. I need you all to identify each and every one of them. Mr. Mehta can you help me with the first one?" Viren directed his first question at Sahil.

"Mr. Abrahim Lincoln." Sahil answered. His voice loud and tone confident. She didn't know why but his answer made Jeevika smile.

"Perhaps you can help me with the second picture Ms. Chaudhary?" and that was it. All it took for her to forget every word in the English Dictionary and stare at him like he was an alien was a question that he directed at her. She couldn't even utter a yes or no in response.

"You know I would throw you out again but I doubt that'll do you any good. Maybe tonight you could stay in a study for a little while instead of going window shopping for hours."

Mr. Vadhera continued his class as Jeevika stared at her desk for the entire hour. When he dismissed the class everyone hurried out in rapid speed. While Jeevika was still collecting her books she saw Arushi walk over to the table next to the podium swaying her hips with extra effort and playing with her long curly hair.

"That was a great lecture Sir!" she batted her eyelashes at Mr. Vadhera who hadn't even noticed who it was. "Your point?" he said without looking up.

With one quick hop she sat on the desk swaying her legs back and forth and said "Sir! Could you give me reading list for tomorrow?"

"Everything is available on your online Portal for the tutor centre. You would have noticed had you taken two minutes off staring at yourself in the mirror." With that he walked out of the class without even turning to look at either Arushi or Jeevika.

As Jeevika was walking out of her classroom in a daze she saw Viren in the small shop next to the tutor centre buying a pack of cigarettes. He quickly took out a lighter and made his way to the same tree with a cigarette between in lips. Jeevika shook her head and walked away.

-----------------------

For the next whole week the same schedule followed. Viren would enter class talk about some war or natural disaster or election or some other happening of the world, throw around a bunch of questions which Jeevika would never be able to answer and lean against a tree after class to smoke till nightfall.

Jeevika who was a brilliant student in every other class failed to understand why she always went blank the minute he asked her something. Any question any word or even any look thrown her way by him would all but mummify her in her spot. But she had also noticed how Mr. Vadhera who was cruel and mean to every other student in the room irrespective of their gender would never say a word to her despite her not being able to answer any of his questions. He would always just give her a small nod and move on to some other student. Nevertheless he never failed to ask her a question in every class.

Today's one hour had been exceptionally eventful. Had he not only yelled at Shreya for not answering even one of the multiple questions he had asked her, he had also thrown her and her boyfriend out of class after telling her to learn to be less annoying'.

Enough is enough!' thought Jeevika. This is no way to speak to someone.'

She stood outside his cabin and knocked. "WHAT?" he said without looking up. Jeevika took a deep breath and entered his cabin. She had fury emanating from her eyes. Shreya was her friend and she had left in tears after being insulted by this man. An otherwise meek Jeevika was confident and angry, a bunch of not-so-pleasant-words at the tip of her tongue.

"Do you want to say something or are you just hear to stare at me? Viren said as he looked up.

"How can you talk to a girl like that?"

"Excuse me?" these were the most number of words he had ever heard coming from Jeevika's mouth.

"She is your student. You have no right to treat her like that. If she knew all the answers she wouldn't be taking your class in the first place. She's a 21 year old girl who is looking for some direction. You yelling at her is not helping her. You're supposed to be a mentor. You're supposed to Encourage us, inspire us and all you do is crush us. Just because you are well read you think you can treat people like trash? I ..." Viren held up one hand.

With a stone cold look in his eyes he said, "LEAVE!"

And just like that all blood drained out of Jeevika's face. She stood there stupefied. He strode towards her. For every step he took towards her she hurriedly took a step back. At one point he was so close to her that she could see his blazing with fury and feel his breath of her lips. Jeevika felt like her knees were about to give away while her mouth went dry. Viren took a step back and closed the door of his cabin on her face. She hadn't even noticed when she had reached outside the room. But standing here looking at him through the glass door all she could see was his eyes and in that moment she knew that all she would be able to think about that night was his eyes.

Sorry about the delay guys! College is driving me crazy! I literally wrote this in the college library instead of doing the assignment due tomorrow.

Aha! This story just keeps on getting better & better, you write so well
Mr. Vadhera's a bit of a douche but idk there's something really hot about him too
Really enjoyed Jeevs standing up to him like that
But, man oh man, he got super pissed
Wonder if he's gonna be picking on Jeevs more now in the future?
Or maybe he's avoiding her because of some secret attraction...
Only you know!
Still totally mystified as to why he is how he is, although I'm sure you'll be addressing that in later chapters
Can't wait to see how this story progresses!
Update super soon Pankhuri ❤️

This update as ALWAYS was super amazing
Viren not saying her anything even when she doesn't answer to his questions... and on the other hand he yells on other and throw them out... that's something to think about

And wow wow jeevika faced him she stood for her friend and that too voiced her thoughts against viren the angry young man.

This story is getting more interesting with every passing update and I'm waiting to know the reason behind viren's rude behavior and his smoking habits.

Eagerly waiting for all the mysteries to unfold.

Hope the next update is coming soon.

If you guys totally hate me and never want to read my stories again I totally understand. I am so so sorry! The last two months have been eventful to say the least. I lost my grandfather and things just went downhill from there. But I will try my best to make up for this lost time and will update almost every day if I can. Here is the next Chapter. you guys can abuse me in the comments if you like.

Viren was furious. A student, merely a 21 year old girl, had the audacity to stand in front of him and lecture him on decency and etiquette? If he hadn't thrown her out god knows what he would have done. No one has ever had the guts to stand in front of him and even look him in the eye. And this skinny, meek looking girl who he had never heard a word from, who stammered every time he asked her a question was yelling at him about manners.

"This is preposterous!"

What Jeevika didn't know though was that things were about to get worse. Viren's anger was beyond bounds when it got out of control and she hadn't seen the half of it. Just as soon as her temper came in check she realised what a bad idea yelling at her professor had been. Her legs were shaking all the way home and she had a pit in her stomach all night. How will I ever be able to face him again? I hope he doesn't throw me out of class tomorrow.' By the end of it she decided to lie low for the rest of her life if she had to. The last thing she needed was for him to do to her what he did to Shreya.

Every day every class seemed dull until the most dreaded class of the day. As Mr. Viren Vadhera entered class the next day he had his eyes fixated on her face. Her eyes were memorizing the patterns on the floor and her long skinny fingers were playing with her finger rings. He proceeded to talk about the formulation of the Constitution of India but couldn't take his eyes off her face, the face which refused to tilt up and look at him. The fury he felt yesterday was gone, replaced by the image of her grey watery eyes and trembling lips. Who knew this little girl had that loud a voice?' somehow the incident was amusing to him now.

20 minutes into the session Viren had given up waiting for Jeevika to meet his eyes. It made him restless that he hadn't made eye contact with her yet. He didn't know why but it was beyond annoying that she hadn't looked at his face with the sweet yet apprehensive look on her face like every day. He hadn't even noticed how in anticipation of that eye contact he hadn't noticed a single other student in the class at all. His concentration was broken by a knock on the door.

Viren saw Shreya and a lady who he could only assume was Shreya's mother. He summoned them in and stood by his podium.

"Sir, I am Shreya's mother. May we have a word in private please?"

"I am afraid I can't leave the class at the moment. Why don't you tell me right now?"

"Mr. Vadhera I really think we should speak in Private."

Viren could see from the corner of his eye that even thought Jeevika had decided to look up and was on looking the events in front of her she refused to meet his eye. It's like she was purposely avoiding eye contact with him. Before he even realised it he was furious.

"Ma'am if you want to talk do it in front of your daughters classmates. Otherwise I suggest you leave!"

The apprehension in her mother's eyes was obvious. Yet she pulled out a sheet of paper from her bag and continued.

"Sir, this is Shreya's medical report. She is slightly dyslexic and that is why she is unable to catch up with the events of your class. I heard about what happened yesterday and I would just request you to go easy on her from here on now. It would be alot of help."

There!' thought Jeevika. That should teach him to be nice to people he doesn't know anything about'.

"Is her Dyslexia over the threshold limit for comprehensive examination?"

"Umm.. no.. it's just below the border."

"Then I am sorry but she has no excuse to be a slacker."

"But if you could please just take a look at this report.." she said as she handed him the report.

Just as she did this Viren and Jeevika locked eyes and he could see a hint of triumph in hers. Without so much as a look her Shreya's, her mother's or the report's direction he tore up the report.

"You can leave now. Both of you. Shreya can attend class tomorrow if she arrives on time. Otherwise you can keep her at home and Protect her."

Nobody knew what to say. Shreya and her mother turned to leave. Viren turned to the rest of the students and for the first time, without knowing why, he said so can the rest of you. OUT! NOW!

The class quickly cleared up. Jeevika was still gaping at what had just transpired in front of her. For a moment she thought she saw guilt in his eyes, but this man was so mercurial. She never saw this coming.

When Jeevika realised she was the last one still sitting in class with wide eyes and trembling hands she quickly collected her books and walked out.

"What? You got no expert comments on morality and decency for me today Ms. Chaudhary?" Viren taunted.

Jeevika turned around and said, "I am sorry Sir."

"Sorry? Why Ms. Chaudhary? I thought people who do the right thing never apologise and are never scared. Yet you can't even look me in the eyes as you're standing before me."

"Sir, I didn't say I wasn't right. I just shouldn't have spoken to you like that. I had no right."

"So you realise that?"

"Yes I do. I had no right to speak to you like that, just like you had no right to insult an old woman like that!" Jeevika said before she could control her words. She stole a glance in his direction and saw him leaning casually on the podium with his arm resting on the stand and his right foot crossed over his left one. They were both equally surprised by Jeevika's sudden outburst. Surprisingly to Viren this outburst was more amusing than infuriating. She continued

"But I don't know why I am even bothering with this discussion. Clearly you were raised by Wolves. Or worse. I suppose even wolves treat each other with respect." And before Viren could say something she quickly turned around and attempted to walk away.

Jeevika hadn't even reached the classroom door when she felt something pull her back. Before she knew it her books were scattered on the floor, she was backed up against the white board and Viren was holding her there with both his bands clasping her upper arms. And for once she wasn't looking at the ground. His eyes locked with hers and the shooting pain where he was holding her became went to the back of her mind. Blood shot Brown eyes to greys, she had no idea why or what she was doing here. He towered over her, almost no distance between their bodies but all contact limited to her arms.

After what felt like eternity Viren finally spoke,

"DON'T EVER MENTION MY PARENTS AGAIN."

Also I will be commenting on all your stories now. Hopefully the kink in the IF form should be sorted by now.

Love, Pankhuri.
