Such a beautiful chapter Nisha!! 👏
Envy in 4 different ways..

Akka's envy of II
II's envy of R&B
Manya's Envy of R&B
Shravu's envy of Shatabdi..

Poor Akka.. Bala needs to learn to say no to his relatives.. I agree that he has to take care of his Amma-Appa.. With a brother like his, one can't possibly force their parents to go to them.. But keeping a cousin for so long, especially when they have no space and Vandu already has her hands full, is too much..

Manya's feeling is very natural.. When she sees her siblings moving on and she stuck in the same place, she is a little envious.. But she will be fine..

Shravu's envy of Shatabdi .. looking forward to how Vandu & Bala handle it..

I can already see srividya tearing Bala apart and shredding him to bits 😆 .
Interesting moves and plots make it riveting.

Kalpana i am all ready...Ashu used to call the Dude Nalayak for reasons valid...i would like to offer Appa at times and Bala most of the time this title...

KALPANA

We have a few sayings in Tamizh that must have gained credibility after instances unfolding like in DII and Munirka.

Vendathava kai patta kutham...

When you dislike somebody you end up picking holes in all they do ...your perception colours every action in the hue you seek...twisting and turning as per your whim

the sole custodian of this belief is Sriman Vishwanatha Iyer of DII fame only that there is a gender reversal and he is the male version of what Tamil serials rely deeply ...conflict between MIL and DIL

Nayi soch kuchbi nahi udhar

Maamiyar odaicha man kodam mattupon odaicha pon kodam

Anything Bala does glorified attributed to his sense of responsibility, caring nature and understanding

Anything the Dude does is attributed to his meanness, arrogance being disrespectful

Come on...

Bala knows of his FIL 's stamp of approval for all his actions as he was chosen matching Jaathagams...in a traditional way...wallows in the same state his FIL put himself Amma and the lovely girls...

With absolutely no help how is poor Vandhu going to manage with her physical financial and emotional mess the useless CHOSEN ONE shoves down her throat?

How much is poor Amma enduring after a work day and care of a post partum daughter...A soon to be mother and Janaki Athai Lakshmi venkat...micro managing her family's needs from shruti potti

My respect for the typical Iyer Maami/ Iyer Ponnu (in this context sole claimants ) grows whereas the harmless way Kamakshi Athai, Janaki Athai pile on...is Ok...

From Amma's reverie of Vaishnavis mom and her antics...if the daughter has imbibed and throws that attitude Vandhu will be expected to endure...

Bala...in madras lingo ...VAADA MAVANE ONNAKU VECHIREN AAPU...NEE SETHE...

KALPANA, PUTTI AND PRATHIMA

like deffered live of DD telecast i am in delayed response mode

The Crazy Colonel...used to be kernal kernal crazy kernall
i used to try learning Kannada from serials just as i started watching YHM with a writing pad and pencil and learn new words...till i abandoned the TV and SoSy became my obsession

Crazy colonel's atics were like the Yeh jo he Zindagi types harmless
I watched Biulu Kudihre for the hero...yes then called Prakash Rai

Putti he tasted better success in Tamizh serials and movies with the new name Prakash Raj...
you should watch his performance in Balachander's Kai alavu manasu...Duet movie...

Bommarillu and Abhiyum naanum saw the possessive cute dad portrayal amazingly done by him...
Bhaaji Rao Singham was cute too...the only Kannada movie of his i've seen is Vagarane(based on a tamizh movie i hear)

His face is what comes to mind thinking of the possessive Appa...like the Sinhala man in Kannathil Muthamittal he might be able to mouth the typical lines of Srimaan Vishvanata Iyer...

Srividya's,you are on a prowl 😆 .
Sri, I try to look at bit more optimistically here.
No doubt their methods may be selfish but their motives are not ,I feel.
Appa has taken it upon himself to take care of his brother and Bala, his parents.
It's was easy for Appa to hv sent periappa or Bala his parents elsewhere, but they chose not to and when the going gets tough, they turn to their women to tide
They have weaknesses , opinionated, chauvinistic ,biased but they are not weak.
It takes a lot of strength to take care of your elders till they bite the dust.

Men like chachu are parasites, chameleons, blood suckers , useless and WEAK , Nalayak but men like Appa have weaknesses , biases but are not weak per se.

But I do understand the edge they have and I do understand your stand , just that I wouldn't classify them to their extremes. They do take undue advantage of the women in lives.
It's going to break their women's back and knee but they will take care of their wives too when they are ailing.

Vandu has to take a stand for herself and tell Bala that this is not happening and he has to refuse his uncle.
People like Ambala Anna are too selfish.
Even bala's patents know that they wouldn't be comfortable there and enforcing their entitlement with Vandu.
Bala's major weakness is his balancing. Vandu was able to stand up and talk back to her father when she wanted II to marry the dude. She has to let Bala know that this is not going to work anymore.

Kalpana let me explain why i call them thus

I agree whole heartedly that they are very dutiful to the responsibilities they feel and i think that is how it should be and it is a value i cherish and uphold(we were 4 generations under one roof ib both my home of birth and marriage i live with my MIL)
What i find very objectionable is the fact they are not fair in addressing the needs of their wife and kids.
You need to be caring but what is happening is Bala is converting his home into a inn and his means are limited and he has no qualms of taking what he needs and yet not having the grace to say thanks...he is selfish to the core in that sense they are spineless...imagine expecting a wife in her final trimster in accompany you for the silver jubilee of some decoration for your brother because you dont have the guts to leave ...what did that so called gallant do on the punyajanam? Walk away...What has he taught his son? leech on to those in power...
When he expects lil shravvu to be mature and understanding does he demonstrate an ounce of it to Vandhu and him?
It is always he his needs his image and his ego...hell ya why perpetrate the stereotype?
When a phrase girls are as good as boys was pointed out as unfair i took it back as i agreed i was being condescending in tone not intent...i have no sympathy for those that dont respect the giver in others

Sri, my Appa and Amma took care of three elders at home including his mother , uncle and aunt. All three lived till their 90's and with three of us siblings ,we were always a family of 8. And now and then with extended relatives dropping in to stay, it was always a mela.
The responsibilities broke my mothers back and knee and she has a tough time managing the winters now . She is a very positive lady but her health breaks down now and then.
It's the heavy load she took then. Now she is a queen with my dad taking care of her like a baby.
He does everything and my mother is enjoying her well deserved 'break'. Every weekend , they go for movies, go out to eat in a restaurant, go on trips.
I feel both of them are only now enjoying life. Touch wood .
