the virtues of a second child is a thread by itself 😆😆
i know several families in india having 2 kids too i agree its expensive but ironically only the rich stop having kids after one or none the regular middle class have 2 and send them to schools and they study ..most of us have siblings and couldnt live without them ..

I feel what vandu is shown here is exactly what happens in india , u fear for the costs and then gush how cute the little one looks and how he is going to study and make way..

Anu she means middle and lower middle class, many of my extended family, cousins, friends that are on one income and, two moderately low incomes have only opted to have one. They cant afford any more. Yes there is always the "posh" segment that will have one to kinda rub it in that, "Oh we are incharge of conserving world resources" types😆

P.S. Good to see you

Asma

My 16 year old and I often have very "deep meaningful" conversations. Race relations is our favorite topic. We talk extensively, during lunch hour whenever I read a NY Times article on it I email him the link, he will be waiting with the garage door open in the evening, and share his comments... so desperate

Too cute...

Yes hes grounded and real. I dont know if he will become the next President of United States, but I know he has his heart in the right place and has a "fair" mind. I live in a all white state, (by choice of course) so this is my favorite topic of conversation with gora friends. My husband's co workers will be amused they will ask "How come he doesnt talk such things" I will be like "Well he loves Bollywood and cricket... and gets by"

Indians IMO are the most hardcore racists, from Bollywood to Iyers... we are a bunch of homophobes. Matrimonial ads, commercial cinema, mainstream media all promote fair skin. My Mom is exceptionally fair, and Dad really dusky. We are a combination... we were "fortunate" to hear earfulls from every Iyer relative about "how unlucky we are not to have inherited my Amma's European skin color"

The fact we didnt commit suicide (sarcasm sorry!!!) and made it through teen years and 20s, and got married is nothing short of a miracle.

I have tried my best NOT to talk about character skin color in SW Symphony. Otherwise I would just be another Iyer hypocrite that never learned her lesson

I wanted to mention her when she suggested vandu not to switch to the bottle milk for the baby and explained her to try more
Also when she jumped to make dinner at 6pm right when bala mentioned it

My dad's elder sister...she is my neighbour but cares as much as mom does and more

Everything is so costly in India 😭...
A simple middle class marriage in Bangalore costs 12 to 15 lacs excluding gold n clothes...
The school fees 😡 ...when I see my colleagues talk about paying 1.5 to 3 lacs schools 😲..
Thank god I did my schooling in my home town and in govt schools with very nominal fees... I am happy that govt schools in my place still pull the crowd with good education even though private schools are popped up like mushrooms everywhere...

I studied at Carmel in Orissa, received the best education ever and the fee was Rs 40 or something. Came to delhi was enrolled in DPS, fee was some crazy amount and my classmates with all their Tvs and other multi media stuff (actually not so much then but better than Orissa of course) didn't have half the GK I had coming from a small non descript city.

Its sad that the public institutions do not offer the same compensation package as private schools do. I knew of plenty of younger people that went to Apeejay NOIDA, DPS NOIDA, not all of them ended up in Apple or Google or NASA

Private schools have figured out a way to game the system. You have enough money, or any bank is foolish enough to finance you, you can go ahead and start building a "Fully AC" school (Like its a honey moon suite😡) Atleast government schools dont claim to be top notch, the private ones do, and they produce Shruti Hassan and Aryan Khan😡

In India its a business now. There is no objective rating agency... everyone's their own boss... they do as they please, who knows who at NCERT and CBSE and All India Board gets "paid" so a Modern" or "Goenka" kid could become the topper...

the tragedy is 98% (just like the US the other 98%) get screwed

"The middle class" as we are called are interesting species
1.we find happiness in every little thing like finding a fuve ruppee coin in an old pant or a 100 rupess tucked away between clothes on some random day
But we are masters of complicating simple things too...by overthinking about them...like a power cut I'm the morning would mean a bad mood entire day

This makes us very sensitive towards everything in life...the middle class is AWARE of everything

2.considering that every rich kid is a brat...if he performs well in education he automatically excells as a person with an amazing character

3.considering that with money a person only becomes rude selfish and is an unreliable person

4.high amount of acceptance and concern...we might be hating somebody but we don't really try and push them out of our life...because what can I do? I'm a middle class simple man/woman
Anybody is in problem..or whatever situation that might affect them...we jump to alert them...suffering is already so high for a middle class man...he cannot see another man in suffering

5.counting each and every penny of expenditure even on the biggest happiness

6.considering lucky charm and the lotteries that they bring along

7. Dreaming about the kid's future and planning for it...even if he is a day old

These points are the essance of middle class I believe
Good or bad I don't know but this is how we are

And nisha u have so neatly and beautifully incorporated these are traits in sketching the iyer family and this update

Loved it

The highlight for me was ofcourse

Vandu cleverly putting across her deman or request about the big function...so much like my mom..embed things in conversations

Bala finding happiness in salary getting credited on.the baby's birthday... Just naturally fit in

Appa's care for dude...yes there is hope
If not kanna...atleast a little care
