"There is something in you that reminds me of someone!" Arnav said pensively!

Who was she and why did she look so familiar to him!

"How tacky! I never thought Wadera.Jr. could use such a well worn line!" Khushi said twisting her lips wryly!

Hey Devi Mayya! Bus inhay yaad math dilaana kutch bhi! Humaari taraf dekhthey bhi nahi tho how does he know! Please help me!

She mentally crossed her fingers!

Arnav fumed under his breath!

Bloody hell! She thought he was making a pass at her? Time to set things right!

"If you are thinking that I am making a go at you! I am sorry to disappoint you but I am not! I ...er...mayI say, you are not in my league and I do have a partner..."He looked back at Lavanya who was pouting at his mother and said,"...er...who is right there chilling!"

"Hmmm!" Khushi said smiling at Lavanya!

"I am definitely not in your league!" She said very easily but why did he feel there was a hint of sorrow in it?

"And your partner?Well ! To each his own! You are welcome to her!" Khushi said!

"How could you say that! By the way what do you mean by to each his own?" Arnav asked her!

"I just meant that every one begets a partner that suits his or her persona!" Khushi said with a pang!

"Oh? And What is it that I have done to deserve my girl friend?" Arnav was absolutely angry with her high handed and boorish comments!

"Simple! You didn't do anything! Thats why you landed up with her!She found you! You never did anything!" Khushi said and chuckled to give it an effect!

C'mmon Khushi you can pull through! This is the reason for which you came here! She mentally egged herself on!

"What?" Arnav almost felt like shaking her! But he simply asked," Whatever do you mean by that!"

'I meant what I said Mr.Wadera!" Khushi said.

"Do you always talk in puzzles?" Arnav asked...

She laughed sultrily and said,"No! Its a Wadera special!"... making him to thaw and laugh!

She liked him...to... smile which he seldom did!

"Tell me why you said that!" Arnav insisted.

"Arnav! Come here meet Mr.Reddy!" Gayithree Wadera waved at him and he waved back saying "Be right back!" To Khushi!

Khushi smiled and said," Leave me at your own risk!"

Aranv who turned to go, froze and said,' Wonder...Why do you say that!"

"Coz I told you I am an illusion and well I might just..." She waved her hand in the air and said "Vanish you know?"

"Please! Don't!" He said looking at her with mock hope!

"Don't what?" She asked looking into his chocolatee brown eyes!

"Don't Go! Don't go yet?" Arnav asked her!

"Oh! But I have to!" She said a tad sadly!

"Won't you tell me your name?" Arnav pleaded with her!

Khushi almost fell for the ruse!Then she mentally shook herself and said,"My sur name is Vanra!"

Arnav wrinkled his nose and frowned! He never heard any such name in the circles! You are...???" He couldn't finish when his father called out to him," Arnav!..."

Arnav apologised gave her a look that said don't go awayand trotted to his father!

Khushi flopped into the nearest chair!

What was happening! Her ploy was to get him interested in her! She tried and found that he was getting to be interested! Now what next?

She texted base camp!

The phone rang!

"What did you always fantasize about child? "Neeta asked..

"Hmm...er nothing!...er... to be with him I suppose!" Khushi was nervous! Now that the moment has come, she was absolutely cluless of her own self!"

"Be with him is a different thing girl! What are the things you wanted to do with him!" Neeta groaned exasperatedly this time when Khushi called her!

"Have ice cream...Dance...look at the stars...walk in the rain...Oh so many things..." Khushi blurted out...

"Oh God this girl! Ok ...So do that!" neeta Abaya barked on the other end.

"But...how can I...?'Khsuhi wailed she felt muddled!

"Do that!Any which way! How does it matter! You are not what you are!!! Now you have another two hours max!" Neeta Abaya said and the phone went dead!

Khushi stared at her phone but quickly kept it into her bronze clutch and smiled at a young man who asked her if he could join her!

Arnav looked at he talking to Shukla his mom's secretary!That fellow had a weakness for petite women and he was leering at the Vanra lady! He excused himself but his dad latched him on to another of his friends and he had to entertain the couple!After twenty minutes he found her dancing alone as many young men vied with one another to shake a leg with her...

He watched her discreetely!

She looked and acted very vague and bored,... but there was an unmistakable child like freshness in her! Her movements were very graceful! They were not bold and provacative in keeping with her character! There was a mismatch somewhere!

He called Aman Mathur his secretary and asked him...to dig out the details of guests and search for a guest by surname Vanra.

He sauntered on to the dance floor and joined her and she turned and her eyes smiled at him and she danced so well! Her toes were like magic! In no time he was actually dancing with her and when they did a flip where he lifted and flung her across him and then turned to gather her, the entire floor cheered for them and then he saw her resting her hand on his chest and moving with him in perfect harmony with a look of absolute bliss on her face!

"You dance so well! Whoa!" He complimented her!

"You are not bad either!" She said making him to raise his eye brow at her audacity yet again!

"What? Grow up Wadera! Just because of your surname you need not be accomplished in everything ok? I had my doubts and they are quelled now!"She said trotting with him!

Arnav again was called back and Khushi chilled at the drinks section!Akhil and Deepa were enjoying their time and she had Deepa texting her every two minutes "Howz it? Howz it"...and she finally had to threaten her that she would blow her cover for her to stop pestering her for details!

"Awe! It hurts!" Lavanya's complaint let Arnav excuse himselves and walk to her saying," It will! Just hold on to that ice pack!"

"Ha! You talk as if I am in a spa! Its so...embarrassing and also boring sitting here! While you...you are enjoying your party!Heard that you danced with some pretty chick on the dance floor??" She pouted!

Arnav felt bad for her! He sat besides her and said," I was just dancing away La!Ok! Talk to me!"

Lavanya smiled and put her hand on his chest possessively and said," How I wish! I just wish we were together..."

"We are La! Tell me! How was your day?" Arnav asked her to start with!

Khushi would never forget the moment in her life as Arnav held her secure in his arms! She was lost for a minute in the warmth of his body! A sob escaped her lips as all the pent up frustration of years of waiting, came out in the form of grief!

She waited all those days...just to have a glimpse of him

just to see him breeze through the den...

Just to watch him munching on his sandwitch and sipping his coffee...without a care!

But right then... she was in his arms!

He held her, enveloping her with hsi arms and she could feel his warmth permeating her body! His breath fanning her cheek and the faint odour of soap and musk drugging her senses, so much so that she wanted to feel him!

Arnav realised what he had done after he did it! He had gone ahead and hugged a stranger! A woman who he knew nothing about except her name-MayaVanra! How good was that! For all that he knew she could be a fraud!

Being the Scion of the Wadera clan he was well aware of such initiatives by their rivals and was cautioned by his parents much before! With Lavanya he just hit it off well initially and later realised she was hollow from inside! But he liked her company after a day full of mind rattling wotk and absolute chaos! She provided him with entertainment and fun and he made it clear that tehre were no strings!! He realised within the first few weeks that she was not the woman for him! Neverthless he put up with her as she warded off all the other sharks inbcluding the parents of so amny eligible girls!

Lavanya grew on to him and he was ok with her, as he never believed in any lasting emotion! He had seen his parents and found them to be drifting apart all the time! They lived conveniently together! They were wedded to their duties to each other and to him as their son! Otherwise, they were as good as strangers!

It was tough for him to take a decision to settle with Lavanya because, she was within reach! She wanted fame and money! He had it! He wanted some glamour,entertainment and she had loads of it.. he could do with that! Marriage was an entanglement he could do without and relationships were nooses that strangulated you and suffocated you with overloads of melodrama and emotions!

He enjoyed his holidays with La and work! Thats it! But what was with this woman that he lost his grit and hugged her actually! He wanted to protect her! Take her pain away! Make everything right for her!

Was this love! Grow up bro! You never even had a whiff of such an emotion so it ,ust be some kind of empathy! He concluded!With that came anger swift and unabated! Arnav wadera and love? No way! That was an extinct emotion in the modern world!

But then her hands came up and she placed her palms on his back and he could feel the body heat of the woman who was in his arms...

She was vibrant yet strangely subdued! She was very gentle yet very direct... she was an enigma but wore her expressions on her face! She was naive yet very smart! She was a young lass but all woman!

Something snapped inside him, which he could not quite place!why was she crying and the way she clung to him he realised she was starved for affection and warmth! Was Vanra her father's name? or was it her husband's.

What ever it was, it was a man who would be the reason! He held her a tad tighter and asked...

Khushi struggled to hold herself but ultimately her will power lost to her heart and she held him... savouring the strong muscles of his back! She noticed that he held her with care and with discretion! She was wearing an off shoulder dress and he held her by her waist and she could dictinctly make out the thudding of his heart through the sheer fabric she was sporting! Could he also make out her's which was pounding away in her ears she wondered!

As a child she used to dip her toes into warm water and found the warmth swirl over her body.It was an exhilerating and tingling sensation and she found it exactly that way when she hugged Arnav! So much for her musings but she felt she crossed an invisible barrier which was a cardinal mistake on her part as after that, she felt she ould never be able to be teh same with Arnav! She sadly realised that, it would be the last time she would be with him! She cried for her unrequited love and raised her face to look at him and Arnav chose exactly that moment to ask her

" Who is he?"

Khsuhi froze! How did he know!

he looked up and then realsied what a mistake it was! She confirmed his doubts by her reaction!

Arnav swore under his breath and asked," What did he do?"

She was lost! This was all going the wrong way! She was there to spend her dream time with her dream man and also to pull him out of a debacle of a relationship! And here she was... almost about to blow up her cover!

Arnav saw her flinch at his question and he deduced... Yes! She was in an abusive relationship! Often he had seen that spirited women went into relationships that turned abusive and she looked very harried as if she was in a lot of pain that she could not share!

"Why don't you leave him?"He hissed holding her still...

Khushi shot out of her revierie and asked "What?"

"What are you saying and how do you know?" Arnav asked frowning at her!

"The question is what do I know!" Khushi corrected him.

"Ok what?" He dared her!

"Your fiancie is a fraud!" She told him and flinched inwardly!

It was not Khushi at all! It was Maya taking over! Khushi would never called names nor told on any one nor carried things!

"Don't you dare!"He drawled becoming defensive!

"Try saving your self not that money sucker!" She said succinctly!

"Do you know LA?" He enquired!

"Nope!...But... " Khushi tried to tell him the implications of marrying La.

"Then how can you say all this! Oh! Yeah! You are jealous!" He said smiling smugly!

She stared at him! This time Khushi really got irritated from within! Not because of his words but because of his inability to see !He never acknowledged her as Khushi Marwah! But now even Maya seemed to be an illusion!

She simply caught his collar and hissed," Designer Danny Ahuija! Does he ring any bells? Go and find out about him and your...that leech of a girl friend! Dont you get your women investigated or are you so after female company that you just forget the cardinal rule for a wealthy man like you!"

She did not know how she mustered so much of courage to even talk like that, but she did and she did well! She realised as his face showed signs of reception and then the reaction set in!

"How Dare you! Here I was thinking of helping you and.,... you showed your class! Clothes don't make you but your attitude does..."Arnav went on in a rage... but Khushi just stared with her jaw wide open! She was shocked!!!!

"How much are they paying you for this...?"He asked holding her by her upper arms!

"Try earning it! Its a better option as you will know that money earned out of illegal means always brings sorrow with it! Thats why you are in such a relation! Wait a minute! Is that also a made up story that you concocted to win my favour?" Arnav was going on...

She loved this man? Who did not have any regard for another human being! She thought he was oblivious of her! But it seemed more and more that he was so very stooped in his own self that he did not care to acknowledge the others or their feelings!

"Why are you looking at me like that?" He was shaking her but all she could say was a " How could I?"

"Yeah! How could you! How could you malign another woman! Without knowing the truth!

I know about La and Danny Ahuja! I don't need to tell you or explain but since you raised this issue, let me tell you that,...La told me everything!And that too in detail! I am going to adopt her two year old daughter after ...er... if we get married! Thats what is making me think as I am not sure I am up to the responsibility of taking care of a child yet!But thanks a lot Maya! You made it easy for me by letting me know what LA is facing and now I know why she is so very agitated about this whole marriage thing! I am going to go right now and announce my engagement with her!" Arnav said loudly!

"Arnav! Listen to me I..." khushi could not finish as he spoke again.

"Shut Up! Just shut up! I thought you were different! But you turned out to be a first class *&^%$!"

His words pierced her heart shattering it into a million pieces!

"But I... "She tried to speak as her throat clogged!

"You what? Who sent you? Some rivals of LA! I am sure" Arnav said disdainfully!

"Thats what I was wondering as how you got to be so familiar! Now I know you must have stalked us a lot, learnt about us... and were fed information to come and break us! Yes! You are that! But let me tell you! I am going ahead with the whole thing! Tell who ever it is who has sent you that Arnav Sayan Wadera does what he deems fit and none can stop him!

If they have the guts ask them to come and confront me! There is no need neither place for women like you! He spat at her! He then turned and said before going! Just get out of my home and never again make the mistake of appearing before me! Coz as such forgiving once is going against my principles! Now GET LOST!"He said and walked into the darkness!

"Will you tell me whats up?Its my sister out there and I have aright to know!" Akhil asked Deepa for the umpteenth time! And he again got a baleful look from her as she sat huddled in the sofa!

"Aunty! Is...she...er... Khushi...I mean is she pregnant or something?" There he asked aunty Jo who kept puffing her swollen eyes with a hanky every few minutes!

She gasped and said" How could you?She is your sister and you think that of her?" And gave him a dirty look, which irritated him further!

"No! I don't" Akhil said full of anger!

"Then how could you ask such a horrible thing Akki?" Deepa almost pounced on him!

"If she...Khsuhi comes to know...that you think so about her...aaarrrggghhh! What kind of a brother are you?" She yelled at him!

"Deepa its Monday! Since saturday night, she is locked up in that room and all she is doing is crying! I dunno whats wrong! But you both seem to know being women may be..." He looked at them helplessly and then his voice shook with emotion," She is all that I am left with,,,in the name of family!"

Deepa got down the sofa and went and hugged him saying," She will be alright Akki! I promise!"

He held her but said softly," I dunno Deeps! I am worried!I feel I have neglected her because of THE DEN!!!!My fault! This age is for having fun and I put her into too many things! She works at THE DEN, the whole day and then attends the classes! God knows how she manages to cook and clean for both of us and study and help me at THE DEN!!! Plus her projects and the usual student stuff! I ... think I failed her, as her guardian" He flopped on the sofa holding his head in both his hands!

"No you didn't! She will come round!" Deepa said with conviction!

She crossed her fingers and thought hard!

On saturday Khushi went home without informing them and Arnav announced his engagement with La which was due in two weeks time!

That shocked LA as she then thought Khushi could not disclose about La! But after she came back and found Khushi cry herself to a semi-conscious state she understood there was more to it!

But Khsuhi went into a shock! She was only crying and keeping quiet!She and Aunt Jo tried their best to rattle it out of her but all they got was only silence out of her!

Come Monday, Akhil came to know as for a whole day, sunday, they maintained she was just feeling low! But being a responsible brother he wouldn't buy their theory anymore! Deepa decided at that moment that they would not disclose about Khushi going to the party to Akhil, come what may as there seemed to be some hitch, and Akhil would rip them apart if it came to Arnav! He was very fond of and very possessive about his friend!

She knocked on the door again and this time walked in without waiting!

Khushi lay on the bed looking at the ceiling!

"Khushi!" Deepa called her softly! "Won't you come to THE DEN?"

Khushi turned to her slowly and asked "What time is it?"

"Almost ten!" Deepa replied feeling relieved that she spoke atlast!

"Gimme half hour Deepu! I will get ready!" Khushi said!

"Thats a good girl!" Deepa said and did not linger! She went out and told a relieved Aunty Jo and Akhil about Khushi!

All four of them went to THE DEN! And Deepa found Khushi busy serving the customers! She insisted on taking most of the orders and by lunch she looked thoroughly exhausted and Deepa was sure she didn't sleep at all the past two nights!

"Why don't you go home?" She asked Khushi!

"NO! I need to attend my evening class!" Was the reply!

"Thats at seven right?" Deepa said!

"Yeah! I will work as usual till six and then go!" She said lifelessly!

"Khushi! What happened! Please won't you tell me?" Deepa asked!

Khushi avoided her and started loading a tray with crispy spinach and a cold coffee!

"Khushi!" Deepa held her and shook her making half of THE DEN look at them alerting Akhil, who sauntered across and asked "What happened Deepu?"

Khushi left the tray and ran towards the washroom!

"I will look into it!" Akhil warded off a protesting Deepa and walked after his sister and caught her in the corridor just before she entered the ladies restrooms!

"Khushi! Whats wrong beta?" He used the childhood endearment which was her undoing!

She turned and looked at him for a second and hugged him tightly as sobs raked her body!

"Arey! What happened love? Tell me! Your Bhaiyya is still there! Just tell me what it is and I promise I will try my best to do whatever I can!" He assured her!

Khushi wretched and held on to her brother! She just could not digest the hateful words coming out of the man who she literally worshipped for five long years! He rubbished her for another woman! Okay he was justified in thinking well of Lavanya as she played it very smart! But how could he say such spiteful thngs to her or any other woman! Was that the man she loved! Who was so unmindful of other's feelings! She was so shocked that suddenly life seemed empty to her!

Her whole day centered around one thing! Waiting for Arnav!

She finished all her tasks class projects and the work at THE DEN, just to catch a glimpse of him at five! Just for that she lived! But right then everything seemed doomed! What was she doing with her life! What was all this! Oh! What did she do! It would have been a beautiful dream if she hadn't become Maya!She hated Maya!

Khushi! Her brother was shaking her now and was in panic and she opened her eyes and looked at him and he gasped saying," Look at you! Whats wrong love? Tell me! Did anyone say anything at the college? Is anyone...er... troubling you?"He went on...

Her heart welled up for her brother! She hugged him and said "I am sorry Akhil!

Bhai! Please forgive me for giving you such a tough time for the past two days! I promise I will be ok! Please don't worry!"

Akhil patted her on her head saying! "No I want you to be OK not for showing me but for your self!

Do you need money? Do you..."

"No Akhil! I am fine! I just...I just happen to dream a lot off late and all of them came crashing down! But you know what! Now I am out off it! Good for me" She said sadly!

"Now I am in real world! Just gimme some time and see how I will shine!I promise I won't let you down ever Bhai!"

Akhil looked at her oddly! But thought the better of it and said," OK! As you say! But remember... no matter what!... I am with you and you can always tell me" He kissed her on her head and was gone!

Khushi felt as if someone had knocked the breath off her lungs with a very powerful punch on her gut! She just stared at him! The normal reaction to Arnav set in!

Her legs started turning to jelly! Mouth parched out... lips went dry and head began to reel! She was stricken!

Arnav narrowed his eyes! she looked...aaararrrggghhh ever since his encounter with Maya...he turned really idiotic! He shook his head and looked at Akhil's baby sister!

Whats wrong with this girl now! She never liked him! He always saw she avoided him and it was something new for him! A man who every girl wanted to be with! Deepa was cool! But this girl was crazy!He tried several times to atleast connect to her but she never let him...and now he got to know! SHE HATED HIM!!!!

Deepa looked at Khushi and then at Arnav! Oh no! Whats this now! As such Khushi was hurt and now this chap had heard what she said! She caught her head and said," Khushi! Stop joking!" And tried winking at Arnav!

"I was not Joking!"

"She was not joking!"

Both of them spoke at the same time!

Deepa looked at them flabbergasted!

"I want to know why" Arnav prevailed...

Khushi who was almost dizzy with panic then she was reminded of Neeta Abaya's words! Yes! She was out of her dream land now! She took a deep breath and said,

"I dont need to reply" Khushi turned away leaving a stunned Deepa and furious Arnav.

"You cant say that you hate me and then say you wont explain"Arnav said.

"Why? Is there a law that you should only be liked?... and who asked you to join here? Those who do eves dropin...never get to listen good about themselves!" Khsuhi said narrow eyed.

Arnav's jaw dropped this time!

Was this Akki's baby sister? No way! She has become a tigress with pointed claws! Whoa! No way! He simply turned to Deepa who was just looking at him expressionlessly and asked,"...what's wrong with her...Deepu?"

"Everything!Any problem?" Khushi could not control her tongue and she flinched as words rolled out of her mouth without any control!

"Why are you not fixing my snack?" Arnav demanded walking towards her!

Khushi took a step forward saying..."...coz I don'r er...want to..."

Deepa was called on to a table and she looked at them helplessly and trotted to the table which was near the entrance and was far from the counter!

"Why?" He asked stepping behind the counter!

"I am busy!" Khushi said taking another step backwards!

Arnav couldn't help but find her very very familiar!

How could it be that... he was reminded of Maya?Even her voice seemed to be so!

"But you always fix my table isn't it?" He glowered!

"I did! Not any more!" Khushi replied!

"The question is why?" he asked loudly!

"I don't need to answer you!" khsuhi said boldy!

"You do!"a rnav insisted!

"Oh yeah? Why may I know Mr. Wadera?" She demanded.

Again Arnav could not help but notice the similarity!

There was something to all this!

"Why? That ninny who you sent in your place makes it yuk... "He made a face and then added and "she...er... "He looked around and whispered "...tries to touch me! I hate it! If it were not for Akki I would have..."

"Feel free..." Said a voice!

Arnav almost fell off on to the floor! The voice was of Khushi! How different she sounded!

She continued...what do you want to do? Tell me!

Arnav just glared at her!

"Let me know when you decide about your subjects!" Khushi exclaimed dramatically!

"Khushi! "Deepa returned and tried to warn her!

"Let him do whatever Deepu!"Khushi said!

The fashion show was indeed an elite affair and all apprehensions of Khushi vanished, as she found out from the other girls that, there were ten clients-all middle-aged and who were actually checking out the collections for mass production!

What was she thinking! That Neeta Maasi would play Cupid to bring her and arnav together? That happened in movies! She blew her tresses which were exactly made the way she wore them to the Wadera party!

"Ok! Now! Khushi chalo girl! Time for the designer's choice and for me to present myself before the clintele!" Neeta looped her arm into hers and urged her to move into the hall!

Khushi walked into the hall and having seen the clintele from behind the curtains confidently walked on the ramp with Neeta Abaya! A few press photographers of some elite magazines and a fashion channel,covered the whole thing!

As all the other models assembled on the stage, suddenly one of the clients got up saying," Can I ask a friend who is just in this hotel to take a look at the collection!"

Neeta scrunchd her nose and said," Sid! You know I don't want crap in my ...dos...and..."

But Sid prevailed saying," Oh she is not crap Neetu believe me and infact she can help you get a fat wedding contract!"

Neeta nodded her consent and he rushed out calling someone on his mobile!

"I swear if that turns out to be someone shady..."Neeta was badmouthing much to Khushi's amusement when Lavanya Datta entered the hall and she just squeeled at the show of dresses saying,"Just what I wanted!"

A Neeta Abaya outfit for my evening after!

Khushi froze and it made Neeta ask her," What happened child?

"Maasi that's...er...e.r... La! Lavanya Datta! Arnav's fiancie" Khushi sputtered!

"Ahaaa! look at her!" Neeta said and then whispered! "You don't worry!"

"No its alright!" Khushi said with a sigh as by then she was reconciled to the fact that she was worlds apart from Arnav!

Further she had much more to do than run after a self-centered scion of a rich business family who was not at all in her league!

Lavanya was literally drooling over every outfit on the show and she jumped when she came to Khushi and tried to take a snap with her mobile when Neeta kept her hand across Khushi's face and protested saying," No! I did not give permission for private snaps as this would be covered exclusively by Fashion-able'"She gestured towards a press man quitely taking snaps!

"Awe! A snap wouldn't hurt!" La haggled!

"Nope! Sid! Please ask your friend to behave or leave atonce!" Neeta was at her worst!

"Well! I thought I will pick a couple..." La baited her!

"Sure do! But at my price and terms! I am not for sale but my emsembles are!" Neeta was Neeta and Khushi felt like clapping for her, for putting Lavanya in place!

La's face scalded but Sid prevailed saying," Babe I thought you wanted some premium designer ware for your engagement so... you see genius people are cranky! Give it to that!"

Khushi's lips twitched at Neeta's reaction to that as she muttered under her breath," Cranky my swanky!"

La shook her short hair typically- a gesture the gossip magazine said even Arnav wadera fell for... and said," OK! I will take that that and Ummm... "She looked at Khushi and narrowed her eyes and Khushi held her breath!
