CHAPTER 3

RECAP: PAST REVEALED, REY GUILTY.

It was a new day and both taarey were sleeping peacefully on their bed. Taani woke up and saw that she fell asleep in his room and rey was sleeping like a kid, so she got up and kept his head aside carefully and was ready to leave but there was a tug on her hand and she saw that rey held her hand with painful expression.

"Please stay" he whispered

She looked into his eyes and sat beside him, he woke up and taani helped him to get up as it is difficult to stabilize with a broken arm and broken leg, taani took the quilt and folded it and kept it in the cupboard.

He held her hand and made her sit beside him and he leant on her shoulder taking a deep breath, taani was helpless and

"Taani" he whispered

"Hmmm" said she

"Can I get a hug?" he asked surprising her with his question

"ummm, rey___" she stammered

"Please..." he pleaded

She forwarded her shoulder and circled her arm around his torso and wrapped his lower back in her other arm.

He hid his face in the silky locks of her hair inhaling the scent of her deeply and tug her hair in his fingers, he slowly started to caress her hair and relaxed in her embrace.

The shrill of his phone broke their trance and he received the call

A: hello! May I speak to the great Reyaansh Singhania?

R: Arjun, tu mera taang kyu kheench raha hai? Naraaz hai mujhse?

A: nahi nahi, me kyu naraaz rahunga? My best buddy got married, I don't know about that! And he met with a severe accident, yet I came to know via the other people in the office. Just see how much I am important to you! I mean Swayam and Vicky are your friends and they know the matter and I don't know, and aapne toh aapke shaadi me bhi mujhe invite nahi kiya.

R: arey arjun, its not like that yaar! Time nahi tha, harr waqt hospital, medicines, checkups, doctors and all. And rahi baat shaadi ki, sab kuch itna jaldi ho gaya ki mujhe khud pata nahi chala tab.

Taani's face showed immense pain, she got all the bitter memories back as she was listening to his words, neelam's death flashed in front of her eyes and rey's revenge for his sister's death marrying her, everything started to play in front of her eyes.

Rey sensed the pain in her face and intertwined his hand with hers and he held the phone between his ear and shoulder and started to talk. But taani took the phone in her hands and kept it at his ear, they both were caught in an eye lock and then their conversation continued.

A: well dude, Singhania industries is the major source for all the other companies to work as it has the partnership with your company, but as you are hospitalized, me, Vicky and Swayam thought that we would take a break and attend you for a while.

R: great idea lets meet! When are you coming?

A: we are ready right away! But I just wanted whether it is okay for you or not, aise hi hum bhabhi se bhi mil lengey!

R: abhi? tum sab abhi aa rahe ho?

A: ummm, yes! May be in an hour!

Taani was looking at rey and started to panic,

R: okay dude, see you all soon!

A: okay! Bye!

R: bye!

T: rey, aise kaise itni achaanak? Me jaa rahi hu rey, rooms saaf karaana hai, bohot kaam hai, breakfast bhi banana hai aur sab kuch dekhna hai. Kitne log aa rahe hai?

R: first relax, tum kyu karogi? Maids and servants hai, they will manage! And you have to supervise them. Okay? And 6 people are coming, three of my friends with their wives.

T: okay, I will give you sponge bath and get ready as soon as possible!

Ramu kaka! Zara saarey guest rooms and bedrooms clean kardo!

She brought a small tub of hot water and a sponge, he unbuttoned his shirt and she helped him in removing his shirt, she gave him sponge bath and he observed her face throughout, she did not show any expression on her face except a blank and straight face. The guilt complex in him was building up so rapidly that he thought he would become mad one day and get admitted in mental hospital. He imagined himself with a large beard and behaving like a complete mentally retarded patient.

"No way" he exclaimed, taani was petrified with his sudden scream and looked at him confused.

"What happened?" She asked

"I started to day dream now; I need to go out taani! I can't rot in this room with slings like this" he said frustrated

"Its okay, your friends are going to come today, so don't worry! You are not going to be alone"

She said finishing his sponge bath.

She got up and left the room leaving a lonely rey behind.

Within a couple of hours everything was done and they all arrived to the Singhania mansion.

First Swayam and Sharon followed by Vicky and Neha then Arjun and Purvi. They all came inside the mansion and taani warmly welcomed them, she gave them some refreshments and finally they were in Rey's bedroom.

Sw: hey! How are you man?

V: finally we are here! I wish tere do aur haddiya toot jaate! Tune humse chupaya na!

A: Chalo, koi nahi! You are fine now na?

R: ya guys, mujhe kya hoga? Taani is there to look after!

V: offo! Not bad, not bad! Apne khadus reyaansh singhania dekho kitna badal gaya! Biwi ke pyaar me pagal deewaana!

R: oh please!! Tum sab mujhse zyada jhoru ke ghulam ho!

Sh: excuse me???

R: I am just kidding Sharon!

Sharon, Neha and Purvi were looking at taani so keenly to discover something.

A: tum teeno taani ko aise ghur kyu rahe ho?

N: Taani Raizyada?

Sh: St. Teresa school?

P: 1989 batch?

T: ya, aap sab mujhe jaante ho?

N: nahiii!!!! (Drama style)

Everyone looked at them

Sh: wow, what a discovery!

P: hamaari cabbage hame bhool gayi!

Sw, Vicky, Arjun and Rey: cabbage???

T: oh shit! Sharon, neha and purvi!

Sh: you don't talk to me! Yaad bhi nahi hai hum tujhe! Shaadi pe bhi nahi bulayi tu!

T: arey aisa nahi hai!!!

P: kaisa nahi hai?? Bilkul gayab ho gayi, contact me nhi thi and ab dekho!

N: chalo yaar, isko padi hi nahi hamaari!

T: arey I am really sorry yaar! Halaat hi aise they ki, I couldn't contact you. And maine kisi ko nahi bhoola, I just couldn't recognize!

She held her ears cute and the guys were enjoying the scene,

A: aap logon ka patchup ho gaya toh rey se bhi baat karey?

Everyone sat in pairs around and on his bed; taani did not have a choice and sat beside him.

A: now tell us, aap dono ka story!

There was a lump in taani's throat and she couldn't speak anything as she and rey only knows how they got married and what she suffered!

P: wait! Taani, you had a crush on someone na in school days?

Rey was shocked and his face fell in seconds,

V: really? Who was it taani?

N: he is her brother's friend neelam's brother!

Rey got a 1000 v shock as soon as he heard that! He never knew that taani had a crush on him, he looked at her and her head was down. Neither rey admitted that he was neelam's brother nor taani.

N: and taani loved him from class VII

Soon, Sharon asked her how is neelam di.

Taani's eyes brimmed with water and spilled out; she clamped her mouth with her palm and started to sob. She rushed out of the room and went into her room sobbing.

All were pale at the sudden change in the atmosphere,

R: guys, wo actually she passed away!

Sh: sorry rey, we dint mean to hurt her!

R: it's okay Sharon! U weren't aware of the fact.

A: purvi, neha and Sharon please go to her and calm her down. And rey, you take rest man, we will get back to you by lunch time.

R: yeah!

Soon the girls went to taani and lightened her mood, she became normal and everyone started to cook lunch.

By lunch time all decided to eat at rey's room as he cannot go down stairs. So the maids and servants shifted the dishes upstairs and spread a carpet on the floor and started their lunch.

Everyone was eating and suddenly looking at an over roasted roti Purvi started to giggle and showed it to neha.

Neha also started to giggle and looking at them Sharon started smiling.

Sw: what happened?

Sh: you know what will happen if you eat an over roasted roti?

Taani looked at them in shock, and understood why they were talking like that.

Sh: kya hota hai taani?

T: bohot mazaa aa raha hai na meri taang kheenchte hue! Revenge le rahi ho na?

Sh: awww, meri cabbage mujhse naraaz hai!

T: don't call me that!

P: well over roasted roti khaane se cancer aa saqta hai,

A: what???

P: taani madam ne bola that seventh class me, and you know how cancer doesn't occur?

A: kaise?

P: simple, cabbage khaao!

N: so jab bhi over roasted roti khaate hai toh baad me cabbage zarur khaana hai!

(Cabbage waala scene, college me frnds k saath hua so i included: sorry if it dint come out properly)

And all girls started giggling and taani pouted. And rey was adoring her face, which was finally happy after ages, she was laughing feely and openly.

After the whole day with lots of jokes and laughter it was finally night and everyone went to their rooms after the dinner.

Rey was lost in his thoughts

"So that is the reason she tolerated all my tortures, because I was her first love. And I blamed her for all the loss of my life, for di's death and for arnav's betrayal. How I used to love her when I first saw her! And everything turned to hatred when neelam di died. I became blind with revenge and made her life hell."

Later taani was dressing the wound on his chest and after bandaging, he sees that there is a long scar on her back as she wore a nighty, he then remembered that he beat her black and blue the night of his birthday when she made a birthday cake for him. How animalistic! Taani left the room to see the last minute work in the kitchen.

Tears streamed down his face and he got down the bed, taani did not come into the room yet, so he slowly got down the bed and went into the washroom dragging his fractured leg.

He bent to the wash basin and splashed some water on his face but he couldn't do properly and the water spilled all over his face and hair also. The other hand is in the sling so he cannot use that he splashed another hand full and it settled on his hair.

Taani came running into the wash and she caught hold of his hand, she held his hand around her shoulder and took him carefully to his bed and started to dry his hair with a towel. He was looking at her with blood shot eyes.

"Please stay taani, I am not able to sleep alone, please" he pleaded her cupping her face.

She agreed and slept curling into herself on the edge of the bed after tucking him in the bed.

He almost looked at her a zillion times to look at her face at least once before he falls asleep. Sleep consumed him soon as he slept with those painful thoughts.
