One afternoon the family was busy preparing dinner for close relatives which were staying with them for some time. It was Mrs. Leela and her young daughter, Priya.
The two families knew each other very well, and had shared a long journey through the years. They walked toward the front door where they greeted them. Soon enough they shifted to the living room, where the girls placed a few drinks on the table in front of them.
Mrs. Leela raised her gaze when she took a small sip from her cool drink. "I cannot believe so much have happened in the last few years. I guess I've missed a few things while being abroad."
Mamta nodded. "Well, it's good to know that you've come back from the trip of yours."
Mrs. Leela saw the women seated as well in the room and couldn't help but ask if they were the daughter-in-laws of the house.
Mamta felt a proud smile escape her lips and nodded. She introduced them to her close friend and her daughter. However Mrs. Leela's eyes couldn't help but take her eyes off of from Preeti. She knew that she was the one who married Prem.
Mrs. Leela exchanged a small look with her daughter and knew what they both were thinking the same exact thought at the moment.
"So how are things going lately? I know that you've got such a cute grandson, Mamta." She paused slightly. "Is there no other on the way?" she joked lightly.
Mamta shared a small look at Preeti and turned her attention on her friend. She told her about Preeti's situation, as she was a very close friend of the family. The mother and daughter kept listening to what had happened in the last few months.
They were listening rather too intensity. The reason was mainly because of Prem.
Priya had developed something toward Prem in the yearly years and therefore gotten interested in him. Her mother had supported her feelings and thought that was the best decision she had ever made.
Being the mother and close friend of the family she always wanted to become a part of the Ram Kishan family, - more exactly her daughter marrying Prem, but at that time it was not possible, but that might change in the future.
Mrs. Leela tore her thoughts away and asked her old friend, how life was treating her lately.
The girls sensed that they would give the two old friends some privacy and took Priya outside to the garden area to get a chance to know each other better.
"So Priya, what are you busy with in your life. I mean where are you working at the moment?"
"I've actually studied management and I'm currently working at a company downtown."
"Oh, so business is your interest, huh? Sounds exciting," Sapna said.
"Oh it is," Priya replied. She turned her attention on Preeti and took a long look at her, while studying her for a short while. She couldn't really understand that she was the one who married her prem. What on earth was the family seeing in her? What was Prem seeing her?
She shook her thoughts away. "How is Prem doing?"
Preeti got surprised by the sudden question of her asking about her husband. "He's doing fine."
"Oh, I'm just asking because we were very close friends when we studied abroad. I've known him for a very long time."
Preeti nodded with a smile on her lips.
"I hope you don't mind me asking, because after hearing what happened between you two. The news that you can't become a mother must be hard for him. God knows what he might be feeling."
Preeti was unable to move by what she just had listened to. She felt a pang of guilt wash over her as she thought what Prem might have felt during the whole process.
She was simply unable to form a sentence as she was too stunned by her words.
Meanwhile both Sangeeta and Sapna exchanged a look and sensed that they should change the conversation.
"Uhm, why don't we head back inside. I'm sure the food is ready by now."
Priya shrugged her shoulders. "Sure."
Once they entered inside, they noticed a familiar voices coming from the living room. They got closer and saw that Vivek, Vinod and Prem had returned home from the office.
Before Preeti could say anything, Priya approached Prem with a smile on her face. "Prem, my god, it's been a while. I must say you haven't changed for a bit. Still handsome as always."
Prem turned her attention on the young woman and nodded. "It sure has. It's good to see you again, Priya." He then excused himself to go up to his room in order to change his clothes.
Sometime later during the night both Mrs. Leela and her daughter were having a small conversation in their room. Concluding what they had seen and witnessed earlier on the day.
Priya had just changed her clothes and went on to sit on her separate bed. "So did you meet Preeti?"
Her mother nodded as she placed her cell phone on the night stand. "Yes, I did. Frankly I cannot see what Mamta saw in her in the first place."
"I felt the same way. She's not that special. I wonder how Prem is tolerating her." Priya said as she got under the covers.
"Don't worry, honey. We'll make sure to make them realize that they haven't made the right decision for Prem."
The young woman smirked slightly by the idea as she closed her eyes and let the darkness surround her.
The very next morning, every house member was busy preparing a small party for their close friends. Sapna was making sure all the music equipment's were in the right places. The elder women and men were greeting the respective guests while others made sure that they were enjoying their time.
A few hours later, Mrs. Leela stood talking with Vinod about something. Vinod's eyes caught Preeti trying to see if anyone needed anything - being the perfect host of the party. "Preeti," he called.
Her eyes found them and smiled when she joined them in a conversation. "Don't tell me you felt lost in the crowd?" he teased her.
She rolled her eyes at him and shook her head in disbelieve. Before Vinod could continue he heard his brother call for him.
"Excuse me," he said as he took off leaving the two women behind.
"It's so hard to believe that you're the one who have stolen Prem's heart."
The young woman blushed slightly. "I've heard a lot about you, from Mamta and others. I've also got to know about your small incident" she paused.
"I mean there must be a reason of why this situation occurred. Say, it's not everyone who can become a mother - and a very good mother in fact."
"Excuse me?"
She took a small glance at her before continuing. "Just imagine what might have happened to Prem when he heard the news? I hope you understand what I'm telling you."
Before she could continue, music started to splay from the speakers in the huge room. A few family members were sitting at a small stage and started to play a few instruments changing the atmosphere into something livelier.
Preeti stood alone in the crowd while her mind was racing with different thoughts. She couldn't understand what was going on. Why was she feeling so... lonely and empty?
Her vision started to blur before her. She could keep lying to herself that the words hadn't stung her - but they had. She couldn't stop the tears forming in her eyes a she slowly walked backwards; ignoring the laughter and joy around her.
She couldn't take the pressure anymore. Why was she suddenly feeling so weak? Her heart was not strong enough to beat all these comments about her.
She turned around, making her way into another room - away from the crowd. This did however not go unnoticed by her father, Pritam. He furrowed his brows and followed her daughter to see if everything was alright.
He had always witnessed his daughter being the laughing child and making everyone feel better with her presence. He had never seen her being sad or bothered about something.
Once he approached her he saw that she was crying silently. Tears falling freely, as if she had held them back far too long.
"Preeti?" he called out.
"Preeti, are you okay?"
She quickly brushed her tears away as she didn't want her father to see her upset, but he knew her daughter too well.
He made her turn around and he knew something was wrong. He caught Prem making his way toward them. He saw the concerned look he had on his face and hoped maybe he would know what might have happened to her daughter.
Prem approached them where Pritam placed a hand on his shoulder giving him a small nod.
Preeti brushed her tears away and looked up to meet her husband's gaze. He could tell that she was not okay. He gently brushed her tears away with his thumbs and asked her what happened.
She shook her head, "nothing, I guess I was just having a small moment, that's all."
He nodded gently and decided to let the matter be for now. He would ask her about it some other time.
"Care to go back inside?"
Preeti nodded with a small smile forming on her delicate lips.
He reached out for her hand and held it as they both walked back inside to the others, leading her through the crowd, passing Mrs. Leela and her daughter, priya on the way.
Hey guys! I'm back with another update. ^_^
I hope you'll enjoy the new chapter. đ

Chapter 4
The next day:
It was early Thursday morning where everyone had a busy start. The two brothers went to settle a meeting with a company while Vinod and Sapna were out with Sangeeta and her husband as they were looking for a house to buy. Being the lazy one among the brothers, he had decided to go with his sister rather than on work. He somehow still hadn't gotten used to the hectic work schedule.
Preeti was currently at home as she wasn't needed at work that day. She made her way toward the kitchen and saw her sister-in-law making tea for Mamta and Mrs. Leela.
Preeti took the tray where the tea was placed and made it to the living room where they were seated. Suddenly upon hearing the voices - or rather the conversation, she stopped in her tracks.
"I'm telling you the truth, Mamta. I've been a very close friend of this family for decades. I would never give you any kind of wrong advice if I didn't see any potential in it."
The elder woman was left in deep thoughts after her friend's words.
"You have to think about your son, Mamta. You must feel what he has been feeling lately. Haven't you noticed a few changes in him?"
Mamta was quite, gathering her thoughts.
"Why don't Prem marry someone else? It's very common now days. He should be thinking about himself rather on Preeti in this case. Why should he suffer because of her?"
"Leela! Enough of this. How can you say such thing?" Mamta exclaimed.
"I can say such thing because I'm not blind by a daughter-in-laws love. I can see through it - and so should you."
Preeti was beyond shocked by what she just had heard. What happened in her life was not in her hands. If she could change it, she would do anything in her power to do it - But she couldn't.
She was simply unable to move from the spot. She gripped the silver tray in her hands of what she was feeling at the moment.
"Prem should find someone else. I think he should remarry."
"No! What you're thinking cannot be granted. We love Preeti with all our hearts. She's like a daughter to me. My son loves her dearly and I would never attend to hurt his feelings."
"But Mamta..."
"I think it's best for you if you don't discuss this with anyone else."
Preeti took a deep breath and gathered her thoughts and went inside the living room. She placed the tray on the table and gave them both a cup of tea.
She tried to look at them and steady her voice as well. "I thought you both might want something to drink."
Mamta smiled, "Thank you, honey."
Preeti nodded gently and turned around as she went back in the kitchen to Sangeeta.
Mrs. Leela couldn't help but clench the cup in her hands from frustration. What was going on? She was supposed to be the friend who Mamta could trust. Who was this girl to make her feel like she had lost something?
However a few hours later, the whole family was reunited on the dinner table. Food was already prepared as they all shared a delightful evening together with laughter.
After the dinner, Ram-Kishan decided to go for a walk. Everyone was keen about the idea and the fact that they could enjoy the warm chilly breeze which was roaming around. A few minutes went by and they were already heading out.
Priya took a small glance around and noticed that Prem wasn't with them. Before she could ask, Vinod had interrupted her thoughts. "Where are the love birds?"
"Careful, you don't want Prem do hear you say that" Sapna teased her husband.
"Right here," a voice said as Prem came down from the stairs. "And I did hear what you said Vinod. From tomorrow on you're going at the office from 6 o'clock."
"Hey, that's not fair," he complained.
Prem chuckled slightly upon seeing the expression his younger brother had.
"Prem, there you are. You should come as well. It's such a beautiful evening outside."
"I know, but I think I'm going to stay inside with Preeti. We're not feeling like going at the moment."
She raised an eyebrow, "So, she can stay here if she wants. I'm sure you could need some fresh air." Priya insisted.
"It's been a long day. I think I'm going to rest a bit. Besides you've got the rest with you, so you'll do fine."
But I don't want the rest - I want you!' she thought silently and gave him a nod accepting the decision.
With that they all went outside while leaving the couple in their room. Prem came inside the door and saw her wife standing by the window. The soft wind was blowing her hair, making her appear even more beautiful in his eyes.
"I thought you were going with the others?"
He shrugged his shoulders as he approached her. "You didn't need to stay if you didn't feel like it."
"Nah, I'm fine where I am," he said with a wink.
She shook her head making her way toward the bed with a book in her hands. It was a way for her to relax in the evening. To let go of all her busy thoughts and led her inside another dimensions of life.
Preeti got under the covers, opening the book and finding the page where she had got to.
Prem, who had moved to a chair with his laptop, was watching her with intensity.
He was currently writing a few notes on what he had to do tomorrow morning in case he would forget it later on. He watched her expression as she was so concentrated yet her body language showed she was in ease.
He would never grow tired of watching her - even if it meant small things such as reading or doing something important.
During the night they had somehow both fallen asleep concluding that it was time to rest for them both. However Preeti was still wide awake, constantly going through the words which had lately stung her in a hurtful way.
"Just imagine what might have happened to Prem when he heard the news?"
"Prem should find someone else. I think he should remarry."
Preeti closed her eyes, hoping he would forget the sound of the voice - but it never vanished. She kept replaying the scenes in her head.
She would be lying if she hadn't notice Priya's behavior with Prem whenever they were together - however it had always been one-sided.
She took a silence glance at the sleeping man beside her. She noticed the way his strong chest rose and fell whenever he took a relaxed breath. Just by looking at him made her feel a strange tingling feeling in the pit of her stomach. He never failed to amaze her in all different ways.
A small smile was visible on her delicate lips, yet a dark thought invaded her mind. How good would it be for him if he married again?
How on earth did she come up with such an idea as his wife?
But why should he suffer because of her? It wasn't fair for him after all he did not deserve to go through all this. But unfortunately she knew Prem well. He would never tell her, even if there was something bothering him. He was the one who would keep everyone together and happy, nothing else in return.
She raised her gaze slowly letting the warm smile vanish from her lips. Her mind was already set.
He wasn't going to suffer because of her. She would make sure that if Priya and her mother wanted to become a part of the family - then she couldn't stand in the way. Maybe being with her, he would be able to live the life he had wanted; the family wanted.
She dismissed the thought for a while letting the dream consume her in the dark - a dream of them staying together.
--------------------
The next morning:
Slowly a pair of dark brown eyes opened and blinked a few times upon the surroundings. Prem took a small glance at the watch beside the bed and yawned slightly.
He lay on his back as he carefully stretched so he wouldn't wake the sleeping brunet beside him. His eyes fell upon Preeti and couldn't help but admire her for a short while.
She was sleeping peacefully on one side while facing him. He noticed that the sun carefully shining down on their bed through the white curtains of their balcony. He formed a hidden smile on his face. 'Can anyone be so beautiful in the morning as her,' he thought to himself.
He strived to make her happy. It had always been his main goal when he married the woman he had loved ever since he got to know the meaning behind the word. He would do anything just to see her smile and be comfortable with just about everything.
Prem reached a gentle hand to brush a few strands of hair away from her face. He decided to let her sleep for a while so she could get a few more hours of sleep.
Prem scooted up in a sitting position and couldn't help but take his eyes off of her. No matter how hard he tried, he just couldn't find himself tearing them away.
It was true; a man will always end up thinking how lucky they were to have such a woman in their life - It just gives them an advantage of him starring at you without realizing it.
So he sat there in pure silence, simply watching his beautiful wife.
Sometime later the brunet woman stirred in her sleep and slowly opened her eyes. She took a look around and to her surprise found a pair of warm brown eyes staring at her. Preeti blushed immediately upon seeing his intense gaze. "Morning" she heard him speak.
"Morning," she replied while smiling as she sat up as well.
Prem brushed a few strands behind her ear. With that he leaned a bit forward, close enough where she could feel his hot breath on her neck. She tensed for a short while under his electrical touch.
He smirked lightly upon seeing the kind of reaction he was getting from her.
"Close to your eyes" he whispered which sent shivers through her body.
She did as he told her. A few minutes later, she opened them only to find the bed was empty and heard the door getting closed. She looked back at the bathroom door and gave a silent laugh by his behavior.
He loved teasing her sometimes - especially in a situation like this.
She however shook her thoughts and pulled her hair into a high ponytail. She decided to clean the room after them before they could head down for breakfast.
Once they were dressed, Prem stood in front of the mirror as he reached for his watch to put on. Preeti stood silently watching him for behind.
"I was thinking on staying at dad's house for a few days? I haven't really seen him for a while, and I thought maybe I could stay there for a bit?"
He smiled as he turned around and touched her cheek. "It's fine, you can stay there for as much as you like."
She gave him one last smile as she made her way toward the door, but he grabbed her hand and stopped her.
She turned to face him, where he slowly leaned forward and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead where she closed her eyes in the process. He made it to her ear and whispered. "I'll pick you up later on the evening."
With that they both made it down the stairs and into the dining room where everyone was already seated. Ram Kishan raised his and saw his son making his way to the front door. "Prem, you should at least eat breakfast before you leave."
"Don't worry; I'll eat some on the way, bye." He called back.
The parents sat shaking their heads and turned their attention on the food which was placed on the table.
Sapna took a slice of bread and a few vegetables. Suddenly she remembered something she had to tell the family. "Oh, I almost forgot to tell you all," she said once getting their attention, "Sangeeta and Anand managed to buy the house they were looking for. They already settled the paper work and they'll most likely shift in the upcoming months."
"That's great news, it was about time. They've both searching for a house nearby and it's good for them."
"Yeah, I'm so happy or them."
They nodded and went on their small talks between themselves.
Ram kishan saw that his daughter-in-law was not really paying attention to anything which was being said. Mamta followed her husband's gaze and noticed that Preeti was constantly playing around her food.
She reached out to place a hand on her arm, "What's wrong, Preeti?"
She raised her gaze. "Uhm, no I'm fine."
"You sure?"
She hesitated slightly, but spoke eventually. "I guess I've just been missing my father for a while."
The old couple broke into a smile. "Don't worry, he's doing fine form what I recalled yesterday, although I'm sure he's not stuffing himself with sweets anymore," he said trying to light the mood.
Mamta shook her head by her husband's choice of words. "Do you want to see him for a few days? Maybe it'll do well for you."
Preeti smiled, and nodded. "I already talked with Prem about it. He'll pick me up in the evening to drop me off to my father's house. I think I'll stay there for a few days."
"That's absolutely fine by us," she said, not noticing that the guests were carefully listening to their conversation despite talking to others.
A smirk formed on Priya's lips as she heard that Preeti was not going away for a few days - this mean that she could finally have some alone time with her husband. She almost laughed by the idea and felt herself rather relaxed.
"Was she dumb or something that she is leaving her husband behind while we are here?"
Now the real fun would begin.
