The first step of love was attraction... and he was getting pulled towards her, so she was on the right track. But why was it that she was getting pulled towards him too? Why was it that the space between their lips was increasingly vanishing and she was allowing it to happen?
She couldn't even hear her own heart hammering, that was how lost she felt. Her fingers wrapped around the cloth of his shirt as her eyes closed. His hand held her waist, his other hand burying itself in her hair. As soon as she felt his face moving closer to her, she moved her face forward too.
She didn't know why she was doing this. She just knew that she wanted it and she wanted it
badly.
Before she knew what was happening, his lips brushed over her ear lightly, causing her to nearly gasp.
"Do I have to prove it anymore?" he whispered, his breath tickling her ear, causing her to shiver slightly.
She didn't know what he was talking about, all she knew was that she wanted to close the distance between them and be as close to him as was humanly possible.
"P - p - prove what?" she stammered, finding it hard to speak.
She couldn't see his face, but she could feel him smirk, and suddenly her heart dropped, knowing what he had been trying to do.
"Prove your attraction Sanyukta Agarwal," he told her, letting go of her waist.
She snapped her eyes shut and felt like crying all of a sudden. She didn't know why this affected her so much.
She couldn't let Randhir see her like this, so she got up immediately and started to walk. She didn't know where she was walking, just knew that she wanted to get away from Randhir and think about what just happened.
"Sanyukta?" he called out from behind her, sounding confused. "Where are you going? Wait!"
Then she started to run and before she knew it, she felt tears stinging her eyes. Why was she crying? Over that sodding MCP? Out of all the people, why did she expect anything from Randhir Singh Shekhawat? Why did she even care? And why was she getting pulled towards him? Even now, she wanted to stop running away, and run back to him. She wanted to hug him tightly and ask him to hold her. But
why? She forced herself to keep running though.
Unfortunately - or fortunately - for her, Randhir was faster than her and he caught her arm, forcing her to stop.
"What's wrong with you Sanyukta?" he asked, turning her around.
He noticed the tears in her eyes and she noticed concern - or was that fake? She couldn't trust him after all... he might just be playing another game with her.
How ironic, here I'm supposed to be trapping him in my love, and it seems like the exact opposite is happening, Sanyukta thought to herself.
"Are you okay?" he asked her. "What happened?"
Before she knew it, she threw her arms around him and held him as close to her as she could. She felt his arms protectively wrap around her, his hands rubbing her back, trying to soothe her.
"I'm fine," she whispered against his chest, suddenly feeling very safe.
She inhaled his scent, unsure of why it was that she was so comfortable around him, especially for the fact that she wanted to keep
smelling him. That was weird.
She wasn't attracted to Randhir, it couldn't be possible. She didn't believe in lust! That was a foreign concept for her. It was either love or nothing, she didn't believe in anything else. What she felt for Randhir was definitely not
nothing. He infuriated her, he pissed her off, he made her angry, but she still felt drawn towards him, she still continued to want to get closer to him. She wanted to hold him when he was upset and craved to feel his arms around her when she was.
She closed her eyes, confused about what was happening.
"Don't cry please," he murmured. "I'm sorry."
She then took a step back and looked at him, surprised that he apologized.
"Really MCP?" she asked, smirking, "My plan worked? Wow, I got an MCP to apologize to a girl - that too, Randhir Singh Shekhawat apologized to Sanyukta Agarwal."
She wasn't going to make him realize that he had such a big effect on her - not yet anyways.
She saw his disappointment, but he quickly covered it up.
"Still want that kiss farzi?" he asked her with a cocky smirk.
She folded her arms and glared at him.
What was his problem?
"Stop trying to make excuses you MCP!" she retorted, her eyes falling to his lips. "I know you're trying to find a way to kiss me right now."
"I have no interest in kissing you farzi, now let's go back to FITE. I can't tolerate you any longer," he said, rolling his eyes.
She started to fume - she didn't understand why he couldn't keep his snide comments to himself.
"Yeah yeah, fine, and I don't want to be near you for another second!" she shot back.
She glanced at her phone. It was nearing 3 AM.
"I know the guards are still there," he said, as if he read her mind, "But we can sneak in just like we sneaked out."
She chewed on her lip nervously. She really
couldn't get caught.
"Fine," she finally said, deciding that his life was at stake too and he wouldn't suggest it if he wasn't confident with it.
"I wasn't asking for your approval farzi, I would have left you here and gone," he told her rudely.
"You need me you MCP... to work on the project!"
"I can do it without you and you very well know that too."
He was provoking her, and Sanyukta could feel her blood boiling once again. She didn't understand why he kept on angering her, as if he enjoyed doing that.
"Let's go," she said, deciding that she was too tired to argue with him.
Once they reached his bike, Sanyukta was extra careful to wrap her arms around his abs this time and not anywhere lower.
"Randhir," she said, after a few minutes of silence.
"Yeah?"
"I'm scared."
"Of what?" he asked.
She tightened her grip around him. "I'm scared of getting caught."
"Farzi, don't you trust me?" he asked her softly.
Did she trust him? She wanted to say no, but she couldn't bring herself to. Her heart told her that she did, and that's what she decided to follow - just this once.
"Yes," she breathed out.
She tried to justify herself with the logic that rank one wouldn't dare risk his spot at the most prestigious engineering college.
"Good," he said simply before driving the rest of the way to FITE.
Upon reaching the college, they noticed the guard was asleep. "Only in FITE," Randhir muttered under his breath, causing Sanyukta to giggle. Noticing her laughing, his eyes lit up.
"Come on," he said, taking her hand and leading her towards the entrance of the hostels, past the guards, slowly.
Entering the building, Sanyukta turned towards Randhir and smiled at him, deciding that she would need to leave an impression that would keep her on his mind until tomorrow.
"Bye Randhir," she told him sweetly, trying to sound as soft spoken as she could.
She decided that she had to change her entire personality for tomorrow, and also needed to dress so that he would keep staring.
"Good night farzi," he replied, and was about to turn around when Sanyukta caught his arm.
"Wait Randhir," she said quickly, "I really enjoyed spending time with you tonight."
He looked at her suspiciously.
"I didn't... I was dying for it to end," he told her.
She almost retorted by saying she didn't have the time of her life either but stopped herself on time. After all, she had to be the sweet, straightforward, soft-spoken girl that Randhir wanted.
"I'll see you tomorrow morning at ten?" she proposed, to him, "To work on the project."
"Make it eleven farzi. I think you'll need the sleep tonight."
She nodded and smiled at him.
"How considerate," she said, sweetly, "Good night!"
Then they both disappeared their separate ways for the night. Sanyukta was quite happy with the progress she made for today - she made Randhir at least open up to her, albeit it being in a mean way. He told her about the kind of girl he liked, he told her about his first time going to a dhaba, and he even proved that physical proximity with her was something he was comfortable with.
Sanyukta knew that she needed to separate her feelings from all this though, because she could already feel things herself around Randhir, and these feelings were
not welcome.
The thought of that almost kiss continued to haunt her - it was something that she had hoped would happen and she didn't even know why. She lay down in her bed and closed her eyes, touching her lips, feeling Randhir's breath on them.
