Part 1 - The First Meet
Day 1- June 13, 2014: The first ever recess.
"You can't jump straight to the end. The journey is the best part"- Robin Scherbatsky, How I Met Your Mother
The first thing that struck me about the canteen was blue. The walls were blue and so were the waitresses' uniforms. The tables and chairs too were shades of blue. The only things not blue were the students' uniforms which were of different colors for different houses.
The second thing was how filled the canteen was. I could barely spot three empty seats in the entire canteen. One was at a table where the entire group was playing cards, the second was at a table where each and every person was writing something frantically, and the third was a guy was sitting alone, eating his food calmly.
Deciding that the guy was the safest option available which will prevent me from going insane, I walked up to the food counter and grabbed a bread and omelet. I placed the tray on the new found table, raising many eyebrows, including the guy's who was seated there.
I again felt like I was part of a movie, a dramatic one in this case where everyone gasps when a new person sits next to the untouchable or the bad boy of the school. I hoped he wasn't since he looked normal.
"Why are you sitting here?" he asked me, generating hushed whispers all around me. I felt like screaming Is this Mean Girls 3 you idiots? Shut up and carry on with your lives,' but I didn't, because this wasn't Mean Girls and I wasn't the lead in some stupid movie.
As I realized that I had zoned out, I looked at the guy who was giving me weird looks. "Err, sorry, what was your question again?" I asked him. He continued looking at me like I was some alien and took his time before he answered, "Why are you sitting here?"
"Never mind, there's hardly five minutes left so let me just finish eating my breakfast. Thank you for letting me sit here," I rambled and started eating. Those five minutes were the most enlightening five minutes of my life.
I noticed the different shades of blue such as sky, light, turquoise and many more which I did not know. The omelet became the most interesting thing in my periphery of vision. I could still feel his eyes on me. So I continued observing the omelet. I cut the omelet into a small square and cut the bread into the same size. Slowly, I picked up the omelet with my fork and placed it on the bread, eating it like a sandwich. Seeing that he was still staring at me, I continue eating that way, just a wee bit quicker. As I was eating, my eyes saw everywhere but him. There was one thing in this school which was not in most, uniformity, you could see everyone dressed the same way, and no one was trying to show off. Frustrated with my omelet for being so big, I cursed it under my breath, earning a small laugh from him.
As I was almost done, I could hear a guy apologizing to some girl behind me and smiled to myself, immediately stopping the cursing. The guy stopped laughing, probably thinking that I was weird to suddenly go from angry to happy.
Just as I was done eating, the bell rang. Thanking every god (yes, I tended to thank them a lot, since they saved me from any kind of mishap) for not forcing me into talking to the guy, I simply said a, "Meet you in lunch" and sped away to my class. I got lost in between, but anything to get away from that guy.
