CHAPTER 5
" Passengers please pay attention. Train number 58478 Shimla Mumbai express has arrived on platform number 5."
Sanyukta sat up in excitement. All her tiredness was gone because of her excitement. She was finally in Mumbai to fulfill her dreams.
She took her luggage and got down. The platform was completely crowded with porters, hawkers and other passengers. People were running around like crazy.
" Kitni bheed hair yahan. Not the peaceful atmosphere like Shimla." Sanyukta thought as she started to drag her luggage and search for the exit way.
She made her way across the crowd when she saw a food stall.
" Bhaiya ek pani ki bottle dena."
As she stood there she saw a group a boys staring in her direction. They all had the unshaven, unkept look on.
They kept on staring at her and spoke something among themselves which resulted in a huge laughter among them.
" Disgusting." Sanyukta muttered.
" Bhaiya taxi kahan mil jayegi?" Sanyukta asked the shopkeeper. She got the directions from him and quickly started walking away from there.
She could hear those boys laughter behind her.
" Madam ji. Kulli ( porter) lengi? " A big burly man dressed in the usual porter uniform of red kurta and white pyjama came up and asked her.
" Nahi chahiye bhaiya." Sanyukta answered him and continued.
" Arree le lijiye madam. Kitna seaman uthayengi akele. " the man continued to walk beside her.
Sanyukta was feeling highly annoyed. First those boys now this man. Could they all not leave her alone.
She started walking faster when suddenly her leg hit her own suitcase and she started to fall.
"Aaa..". A shout escaped her mouth and she closed her eyes. But she did not feel the hard floor of the platform. Instead she felt like she was hanging in mid air. Slowly she realised about the tight but warm grip on her arm. She opened her eyes and looked around.
Her eyes met a pair of brown ones. Something about them felt familiar. Those eyes soothed her and the grip calmed her down.
" Arree madam ji aap thik toh hain?" The porters voice brought her out of her trance. But she did not pay any attention to him.
All her attention was fixed on the guy standing in front of him. The guy made her stand back on her feet.
" Layiye madam ji. Seaman mein letahuin aap chaliye." The porter started to take all the luggage. On seeing this Sanyukta lost her cool and stopped him.
" Bhaiya aapki mad ad nahi chahiye. Main khud kar lungi. Samajh gaye." She spoke in a loud irritated voice and snatching her luggage walked away.
Walking a few steps she realised she had forgotten something. Something important.
" That guy." As soon as she realised it she turned around to find both the boy and porter gone.
In that one moment of irritation because of the porter she had not even thanked that guy.
" Stupid porter." She muttered. " she was feeling really bad for not having thanked him.
...
Randhir reached the small coffee shop present just outside the station exit. He ordered himself a coffee and sat down. His mind drifted to the incident occured a few minutes back.
His train had arrived only a few minutes back and as he was making his way towards the exit he had seen that girl and the porter arguing. And then how he had run towards her seeing her on seeing her fall. " And she turned out to be so rude. Don't even say a thanks. Huh.."
" Bhaiyaji coffee." A small boy dressed shabbily brought him his order.
Randhir smiled at him when him eyes found someone again. " Rude girl." There she was that same girl just across the street heading towards the taxi stand. He shook his head seeing her struggle with all her luggage.
" Itni problem ho rahi but nahi. Kisi se help line bhi nahi hai. "
Huh..he drifted his eyes away.
...
" Bhaiya Presidency college le lijiye." Sanyukta spoke as she sat down in the taxi. She drank some water as she relaxed against the back seat.
She took out her earphones and put on a song.
...
20 minutes later..
She stood in front of a big black gate. On its top it read " PRESIDENCY COLLEGE".
She felt a wave of pride wash over her as she read the name. Here she was finally. To complete her dreams. To achieve her goals. There was no stopping now.
With a new determination and confidence she walked in to start a new chapter of her life. A chapter which she will write herself.
Or so she thought..
