PART 8:
"I don't think things are simply right or wrong. They are much more complicated than that!"
~Aryana
Soon, Randhir reached the hotel. All that kept playing in his mind were ways to get Sanyukta back. But what could he do? Aise toh who idiot manne se rahi! How could trick her in at least letting me clarify.
Just then, the door flung open, and Sid entered.
"Hey! Where did u run off? That too in a cab?"
"Nothing... I just had some important work... I just... Like. I..." Randhir stuttered, Sid's sudden appurtenance in his reverie seemed to have him taken aback quite a bit.
"Hmmm... though I don't believe you, that's a different issue all together!" Sid mocked.
Ignoring his sarcasm, randhir sat on the armchair, taking off his shoes and loosening his tie.
Thoughtfully, he said, "so, what do you think about Agarwal and Agarwal Automobiles? You think their good enough to actually crack on this deal?"
"Well, that's dependent on you right? After all you're the scion of SGI. This deal depends on whether you want it or not!"
"Oh come on Sid, this company belongs to all you guys, as much as it does to me. I can't make decisions alone. I need you people to give me your inputs regarding this. Because frankly, we're investing a lot here. This deal could make or break our already established name in the market."
Plonking on the armchair in front of randhir Sid looked at him and said, "Your right bro! This is deal is quite a striker u see! But I think, the Agarwals have proved themselves enough in the market. They've taken calculated risks in case of design and automation when it comes to their vehicles. The company has a good post production line that's excellent! They company's ethos and way of working is a bit different, but it's very much innovative and rigorous like ours is. So we're looking at quite a good deal here, if you ask me!"
"Hmm. I agree"
"But we should talk to the board about it. Let it be a fair and square game. Let's see if they're in for it too. I personally really like the company. And I'm assuming even you do..." Sid trailed, trying to hide a grin.
"Eh, Mr. Casanova, whatever you're aiming at. Stop!" Randhir said, getting to know what Sid seemed to be hinting at.
Saying that, he got up, and headed towards the washroom to change. He had to go to the gym. It was his solace. For some time now, he had two things to juggle. One, Sanyukta, and oh, the other one, the deal, of course!
Turning the level slope of the treadmill to a threatening 9, randhir continued to run. A Bluetooth piece in his ear, he was waiting for a call.
Just then, he heard the buzz of his cell.
"Yes Mr. Anand. It's me."
"..."
"Yeah, Mr. Randhir Singh Shekhawat."
"..."
"I was thinking if we could meet up tonight. Yeah."
"..."
"Exactly, it will better for the company if the deal done with soon... yeah... yeah. I understand."
"..."
"Sure. I don't think any of the SGI board members have a problem. If you could just speak to agarwal automobiles. That would be great."
"..."
"Thanks! Have a good day!"
Triumphantly Randhir disconnected the call. A wide smile took over his sweaty face.
"It's a tough road ahead, but Randhir LOVES challenges" he smiled to himself.
"WHAT?????????????????" Sanyukta looked at Shanaya, with a shock adoring her face like none other.
"They want to discuss the deal. Like today evening? Over dinner??????????" Sanyukta's head was officially spinning! What on earth was going on? Wasn't today enough to digest that now she'd have to face her demons for dinner too?????
"Umhhh. Yeah. I got a call from the SGI person, asking if we were okay with it." Shanaya stammered.
"And what did you tell them?" Sanyukta eyed Shanaya suspiciously, knowing her penchant for the truth!
"Ughh. All I said was... she doesn't really have anything scheduled this evening, though I will talk to her and let you know ASAP!"
"PHEW!" Sanyukta sighed, relief washing over her.
Pacing across the room, her hands trying to gauze the appropriate reactions, she thought to herself, "Sanyu, and think about the deal, not the damn the guy. This deal is a heck lot important than him. Focus!"
Turning to Shanaya she said, "Shanz. Call them; tell them we have no problem with a business dinner tonight!"
"Huh?" Shanaya wondered, looking at the sanyukta whose moods seemed to be changing at the drop of a hat in the past 24 hours more than anything else!
"Okay. I'll do that." Shanaya turned towards the door. Stopping back at the door, she said, "Sanyu, you're sure right?"
"Of course. Go now!"
It was 9. The tables at The Oberoi were set. After all, two of the biggest automobile companies' delegates were going to be here.
Sanyukta and her team reached before. After all, weren't they the hosting party? Within a few minutes, the rest of the delegates were seated too.
Sanyukta glanced nervously. As much as she was nervous about running into randhir, she was nervous about the deal. She HAD to crack it.
"Or a better option would be to crack that nut's head!" her conscience quipped in.
"They're here" Shanaya said hurriedly, as though it was Amitabh Bachchan who probably took the wrong route and landed here!
Randhir and the rest of his team sauntered in, now giving brief nods o their counterparts.
Sanyukta came forward and stuck her hand out for a formal handshake, a smile plastered across her face. Her smile broadened as she shook hands with Randhir.
"So very pleased to see you again Mr. Shekhawat?" she went on, sarcastically.
Huh? "What the hell is wrong with her fake smile!" Randhir wondered.
Taking in her sarcasm, he replied back, "Oh! Likewise Ms. Agarwal!" and winked.
Rolling her eyes, she took to her seat. Quickly, Randhir came forward to pull out the chair out for her. Sanyukta realized this, and stopped, throwing randhir one of her angry looks.
Glaring at him, her eyes seemed to convey what she wanted to say, "Thanks but I don't need your help."
Randhir looked at her and his hand stilled. Realizing how hell bent she was on not taking HIS help to be precise, he took back his hand from the chair.
Satisfied by the fact, that he got a hint of what she implied, sanyukta settled on her chair.
Soon, randhir spoke up. "So as you all now, my Board Of Directors and I have come to a conclusion regarding this deal. Mr. Jha will explain you the rest of it..."
"Thank you Mr. Shekhawat. So as the head of design at SGI," Mr. Jha continued...
Sanyukta looked at him intently. Her eyes reflecting the quaint excitement as the head went on to complement their company on their technology.
Having been in the business for quite some time now, she knew when to let her heart take in if it was going to be a deal maker or deal breaker.
Randhir too seemed to be intently listening to the on-going procedures, but his mind seemed to have been diverted quite a long time ago. All he could think about is the ways to talk to the woman sitting beside him and how he was going make her to let him enter her life. He couldn't let go of this opportunity. He just couldn't.
"...and Mr. Shekhawat..." But Mr. Jha's voice trailed off, as he saw randhir lost in his own sweet world.
"Ahem ahem... Mr. Shekhawat..." he coughed uncomfortably. Their boss had never slackened back during any meeting to be precise.
Just then, somebody stomped his foot foot hard. The pointed whatever it was sent a searing sensation even through his shoe. It was Sanyukta's heel!
"Oww!" Randhir yelped.
Before he could say anything else, he realized that he had drifted off in his own land during such an important meeting, and that his drowsiness hadn't gone unnoticed by the people at the table!
Immediately regaining his composure he got up, and took over the meeting. "So, as you can see, the two companies will definitely benefit from this deal. Welcome to the family folks!" Randhir smiled gesturing at everybody from Agarwal automobiles sitting at the table.
"Phooo" Sanyukta excluded! A wide smile taking over a face as she got up from her chair and looked at her team members.
Her happiness seemed no bounds. She had finally done what no Indian company could have been able to achieve this far. Going international with SGI! It's one of the best leaps her company could have taken till date! She hugged Shanaya who was equally elated by the fact that they had bagged one of the most complicated and elite deal till date!
"We did it Sanyu!" Shanaya squealed in a hushed voice.
"Yup girl! We deserve the party now!" Sanyukta winked at her.
She proceeded to further congratulate the rest of her team as well as the Board Of Directors of SGI.
"Welcome to the gang Ms. Agarwal. Hoping to look forward for a great time to working with you!" Sid smiled magnanimously at Sanyukta.
"Of course Mr. Sarin! We look forward to it too! And please call me Sanyukta! I think we've had encounters to call each other by first names!"
"Hahaha! Of course! True that!"
"On that note why don't you join me and Shanaya for a drink. Think about it as a treat for the deal and to us becoming friends!"
"That is a great idea! Would love to join you lovely ladies for it!"
Randhir stood there silently, as he saw Sanyukta hug Sid. For him, somehow he didn't really feel a pang of jealousy; he just was too engrossed in the questions swimming in his head.
Will she hug me too?
Will she give me the same pretty smile that she gave Sid?
Suddenly, in her excitement, Sanyukta failed to realize that it was Randhir.
To her, it felt, that after years, with this deal, she had found her own self back.
"Randhirrr" she squealed lightly, and hugged him, thoroughly not in her senses.
Taken back, Randhir drew a sharp breath. Suddenly he was standing there, with Sanyukta, her arms wrapped around his neck, her warm breath on his neck, her shimmery flowery scent enthralling his senses. Just as he was about to nuzzle closer into her, he felt a hard jerk.
Not realizing what she was doing, Sanyukta had hugged him. For a minute, she thought she forgot what her world was. It was the most blissed feeling in the world. But soon, she realized what she had done, she broke the hug, and jerked him away.
Shocked by what she had just done, she stammered, "Ummhh... I... I'm.. I'm sorry! I just.. I mean... congratulations to you!"
She averted her eyes quickly, flustered.
"Yeah.. yeah... to you too!" Randhir said, trying to find a way to divert himself from what just happened. A part of him somehow seemed to be disappointed for getting off from that hug!
"Randhir, bro,..." Sid started off, but looking at the uncomfort evident on the their faces, he decided to tread his path of words carefully.
"Isss... everything okay?" he asked questioningly.
"Yeah!" both of them said in unison.
"Ohkayyy! So Sanyukta suggested that I join Shanaya and her for a drink later tonight! Sanyukta, is it okay, if Randhir joins in too?"
Sanyukta only widened her eyes at the suggestion.
"Okay, ya, I know, but don't worry, as a badass he looks, Randhir's a lot of fun! I bet you'll will have a great time!"
"Oh sure! Why not! The more the merrier..." Shanaya quipped in.
Sanyukta turned around, a threatening look on her face, but a sarcastic smile playing on her face.
"OF COURSE, Shanaya! Why not! The MORE the MERRIER na!"
"Errr.. yeah!" Shanaya shifted in her place uncomfortably.
"All settled then! We'll see you girls outside in a bit! Excuse us please!" Sid said pulling Randhir aside.
"Sure!" Sanyukta smiled, moving away with Shanaya, who now smiled dreamily at Sid.
"The more the merrier huh? What is it? Your wedding? Or some satsang seating?" Sanyukta started with her banter, trying to wonder how Shanaya readily agreed to the boys intruding in.
"Well, I thought..." Shanaya tried to reason with her...
Looking at Shanaya intently for a minute, her expression going interrogating to utter shock and teasing.
"OMG! You have the hots for him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Sanyukta exclaimed!
"Ughh.. no.. what.. wait.. WHAT?" Shanaya said, her cheeks pinking up soon enough.
Yes, it was true. Shanaya Kapoor was falling hard and fast for the suave and jovial Siddharth Sarin, and she knew she couldn't let it be a secret for too long from Sanyukta atleast. But letting her know about it so soon? God! That's definitely something she didn't want!
"Ahaan!!!!!!! You are blushing Ms. Kapoor. So, since when has the whole 60s heroines sort of aakhon hi aakhon mein baatein' had been going on?" Sanyukta teased her.
"Oh please babe! Its nothing of that sort. He's a good guy. We spoke like what? Just thrice maybe!"
"You spoke THRICE , when we've met these company people just TWICE? Wow! Your quite a girl haan!" today was the day, Sanyukta had the glorious chance to pull her best friend's leg!
"Oh please! Tell me, how much would it take to kill you at this point of time!"
"Oh, not a lot, maybe just a gazillion dollars if you say!"
Just then, Sid came by, "Hey! Sorry for keeping you ladies waiting! Just had to finish off a few talks with the directors! So you guys ready to head out?"
"Oh yes! Of course we are! We were waiting!" Sanyukta said excitedly, eyeing a visibly flustered Shanaya.
"Come.. lets go then!"
Randhir was waiting here in the car. He decided he's drive. It was his favorite Audi. Atleast that way he'd be concentrating more on the driving than Sanyukta who kept diverting his mind.
To him, everything about her mattered. Her joy, her sorrow, everything. He was elated on seeing how happy she was on bagging that deal. He was proud, that HIS girl had managed to crack such a difficult and horrendously complicated deal with his company on her own merit. But he felt equally restless, with the growing indifference she was showing towards him. As though his presence didn't seem to affect her. What the hell was happening to him? He felt like a 40 year old woman who was probably expreincing menopausal flushes!
Joking around with the two of then, Sanyukta reached the foyer of the hotel. Randhir was there. She felt uncomfortable and uneasy. At one point of time, there she was, telling him, never to interfere in her life back again and that they don't exist for each other outside the office, and on the other point, here she was hanging out with him, to say with him and his best friend.
But Sanyukta was Sanyukta! She had a plan in mind. She wanted to remain indifferent to him. To let him know that the wounds he scarred across her heart 10 years ago, wouldn't really make a difference right now. They were healed. She had moved on. She wanted him to know, that even today if he's here only to witness her misery, he's not going to get it.
For Sanyukta Agarwal, didn't reveal in the past...
