Chapter 10
"Taani.." Laughing in her own world along with Rajeev, she suddenly startled as one very familiar voice reached her ears. She snapped on him gradually holding down the giggles. Slowly the smile died down and a frown took its place.
"Tu yaha kya kar rahi hai?!" He said completely ignoring her frown. His eyes turned to Rajeev who suddenly become all quiet. Without a single realization, he carried a scowl on his face.
"I gotta go." Taani said looking at Rajeev, finally breaking the silence. She got off the rocks as she passed a smile to Rajeev. He cordially returned it making Rey frown further. The volcano inside his stomach seem to bring a disaster within a few seconds. Walking further, she stepped down the rocks and moved further passing the shocked Rey. Oh God!! She is ignoring me already. He looked at her retreating back as she moved forward towards the crowd of the beach and suddenly the entire Volcano turned into cold ice making him shiver to death. His worst nightmare coming true. His eyes snapped on the guy, who had already taken his way. His eyes traced him from back making another shiver ran through his spine. Damn Hell !! He looks good. And suddenly another thought crosses his mind as he remembered their morning conversation.
"Matlab, agar tujhe bhi koi HOT and SEXY ladka mil gaya to..Will you ditch me?!!"
"Depends"
"On what?!!"
"Well..how handsome that guy is..if he takes care of me..if he can bear me..if he can oblige all my requests..if he can be a perfect BOYRFRIEND material."
"Damn.." He growled.
"Hot, Sexy and Handsome.." He played Rajeev's face in his mind. "Check.." He whispered.
"Caring.." And instantly the image of him and taani laughing together came in his mind. "Check.."
"Already two conditions fulfilled.." He whispered with a haunted look. "Ab kya hoga.."
"Taani, you gotta listen to him at least once." Swayam spoke while trailing behind fuming taani.
"Will you just stop following me?!" Taani snapped at him.
"Taani, please. He is really guilty." Swayam gave a pleading look.
"Then why isn't he here?! Are you his lawyer or what?!"
"Taani, vo aaye bhi to kaise. Tumhi to usse baat nahi kar rahi ho. You are completely ignoring him."
"Ofcourse, yaha bhi galti meri hi hai..." She growled before pacing up her speed making swayam run faster to catch up.
"Kaha reh gaya yeh.." Rey whispered while pacing in the lobby, waiting for Swayam. His eyes frequently moved from the corridor to his watch. With every passing second, his pace increased while the entire staff of the hotel looked mockingly at him. Hearing a sudden giggle, he snapped in the direction only to find a waiter holding his mouth tightly with his palms. Giving him a warning glare, he turned back to proceed the pacing.
"Ouch!!!" Two voices intermixed as he heard his shriek along with a feminine one. He looked up to catch the face of the person he collided with and soon after his mouth hung open in shock. The same British girl he met before going to the beach, stood in front of him. Eyes pale and tears stained on her skin. She was continuously wiping her nose with her shirt's sleeve hanging on the back of her hand.
"You Ok?!" He asked concerned and it was then when she finally took the notice to his face.
"Oh. The Road Guy." She said almost a whisper. Rey gave a small smile.
"Nice to meet you...again." She said in between her sobs.
"Are you fine?!" He asked while forwarding his hanky. She took it instantly quiet tired to use her shirt. Putting it around her nose, she wiped it while the tears continued their way out.
"Thanks.." She finally said.
"Its okk.." He kept giving an assuring smile. "Um..if you don't mind, may I ask Why are you crying?"
She looked up at him with numb eyes. "My Boyfriend ditched me." Suddenly the sobs increased along with flowing nose and tears.
"Oh." He could only say. She gave an apt impression of a broken woman in need of a hot bath and cold bucket of ice cream. Oh-man-this-love.
She snorted once more in his hanky looking at it helplessly. Her eyes moved to him conveying a silent sorry.
"Its okay. You can keep it." He smiled and for the first time in the entire conversation, she smiled back making him a little relax. His eyes moved around the lobby as he finally eased but the happiness was transient. Stopping his gaze in a particular direction, his mouth hung open and sweat trickled on his forehead. Eyes widened and throat dried up, he gulped down his saliva along with praying for his precious life.
"Damn Taani!!" He whispered finding her all red in anger standing in another corner of the lobby glaring at him while taking deep breath, may be to ooze out the anger.
"This is what you call guilty.." She told swayam without even looking at him.
"No..No.." Rey murmured only to see her stamping her foot as she walked past swayam and returned to the same way from where she came. "Shit!" He cursed loudly.
"Taani, I said I'm sorry.." Rey said for the trillionth time while pacing behind her in their room.
"I don't want your sorry." She growled while picking up another top of hers, throwing it in her bag. There was no way, she will stay with this man in the same room.
"Arre yaar!! Now this is too much, taani. Itni der se soory keh raha hu. Jabki galti to teri bhi thi na!" His voice mixed with frustration and pleading.
She stopped in her tracks, looking back at him with eyes impassive.
"Taani, I'm really sorry.." He said once again taking the advantage of silence. Folding her arms around her chest, she exhaled. Why is it so hard to neglect his pleas?! She suppressed a giggle seeing his puppy face. Holding her stern face, she tried her best to make it harder for him. Taani Vaidyanathan was not so easy to get back.
"Taani..are you going to say it now." He looked at her in hope.
"Say what?!" She snapped.
"That 'its ok Rey. I forgive you.' " He said trying to mimic a girly taani.
"I don't talk like that." She tried her best to hide the laugh in her eyes.
"Ok, may be not. But the words will work. Take any style you want but just say the words.." He almost plead. Alright, how hard its going to take.
"Fine." She said still maintaining a stern face.
"Fine what?!" He suddenly become alarmed.
"Fine, its ok Rey. I forgive You." She repeated exactly and instantly his face glow in the brightest smile making her smile as well. He suddenly fisted in the air before hopping on the carpeted floor. Ok, this guy is cute as well.
"So, that means you forgive me?!" He asked to confirm. This was more than unbelievable.
"Yes.." She smiled a little.
"Seriously?!"
"Yes.."
"Pakka na!"
"Rey!!!" She scowled preventing him to ask that thing once again and that was his last call. He lost himself to a weird dance and soon left his body to fall on the bed. The ultimate relief. She smiled on his antics. Do I really matter that much to him?! The thought itself made her smile with all her heart.
Smiling to his own, he was suddenly pulled out of happiness as his mind replayed the laughing session of taani with that stranger. He suddenly snapped at her. She was busy in setting the clothes.
"Taani.." He called her.
"Ya.." She answered without looking away from the bundle of clothes.
"Who was that guy, you were talking on the beach?!" His eyes still on her, the question skipped out like the biggest unsolved mystery.
"Oh that..he is Rajeev, my boss." She momentarily looked at him with a smile and then turned back to her work.
"Boss?! Matlab ye wahi hai jo tujhe itna pareshaan karta hai.." He asked in disbelief. "..aur tu uske saath khi-khi karke hass rahi thi.." Frustration dripped from his each and every word. She giggled.
"Actually, I am surprised as well. Delhi mein to itna khadoos hota tha ki pucho mat. Aur yaha suddenly itna polite aur caring ho gaya..weird." She shrug her head. "But anyway, vo ab mujhse achhe se baat kar raha hai so don't do anything stupid. Who knows, shayad vapas jake mujhe promotion mil jaye.." She said in a voice filled with excitement. She went back to her work while leaving him with his thoughts.
"Goa aate hi banda change..." He whispered making sure not to reach her ears. "Khadoos se Caring..aakhir chakkar kya hai." He scratched his head analysing all the facts in his mind.
"Taani.." He called her again with a small smile playing on his lips.
"Hmm..."
"Tujhe vo kaisa lagta hai?!" He asked while concentrating on her face looking for some change in expression.
"Rajeev?!" She asked to confirm. After a small pause she continued, "Achha hai. Actually ab kafi achha hai.."
"Bas achha hai.." He nudged her to continue. "I mean aur kuch nahi.."
"Aur kya lagna chahiye?!" She looked at him confusing.
"Nahi..kuch nahi.." He whispered giving up.
"Vaise agar tera questionnaire khatam ho gaya ho to mein kuch puchu?!" She raised her eyebrow.
"Ya, ofcourse.."
"Vo ladki kaun thi?" She eyed him suspiciously.
"Kaun..Ana?!" He confirmed. "Arre vo to bas aise hi..I just met her twice.."
"And why was she crying?!"
"She just had a breakup." He made a pity face.
"Oh.." She turned back to her work.
"Why were you asking?!" He looked at her suspicious.
"Just has the curiosity." She shrugged off his words.
"Jealous?!" She snapped at him with his single word echoing in her mind. He looked at her raising his eyebrow.
"What rubbish?!" She snorted. "In your dreams.." She hissed getting the already messed up clothes more tangled. The level of her frustration reaching new levels.
"Ok fine..I was just asking.." He raised his hands surrendering. There was no way he would get into another fight with her.
"By the way, why were you asking me about Rajeev?!" She turned the tables. Now its she who rule.
"Vo..vo..bas aise hi.." He stuttered a little.
"Why am I smelling jealousy?!" She twitched her nose trying to smell the air.
"Oh please.." He snorted. "Jealous and me..in your dreams.." He hissed before turning his back to her. She instantly did the same. Both of them getting themselves busy in some or the other work while thinking about each other's words.
"Jealous?!" They whispered quite unknown to each other. They shrugged their heads immediately.
"Ofcourse not taani, that's not possible.." Taani shrugged. "..but the butterflies.." She was lost again.
"Jealous and me?! No ways..." Rey shrugged. "..but that volcano in my stomach.." He drowned back in his thoughts.
Their minds worked in their own accord trying to bring a stable answer while in the midst of all this their subconscious ask with suspicion, Am I jealous?!
