CHAPTER : 15
"I am not sorry that I met u;
I am not sorry that u made me question everything;
That in death u are the one that made me feel most alive;
I am not sorry that I love u"
-Elena Gilbert.
----*----
Sanyukta Agarwal was known for her tenacity. But for once, all her mental stamina failed her. For the first time in her 2 years in FITE, she spent the night outside her hostel and on the terrace.
There had been a time when she couldn't fathom ever falling in love with someone. She had landed in FITE to fulfil her dreams. Love was the last thing on her mind. That was until she met Randhir Singh Shekhawat. Formerly her number 1 nemesis, her arch rival and the bane of her existence, this guy had slowly captivated her senses and before she knew it, she ended up losing her heart to him!
As for him, he had softened up towards her gradually. He slowly started to acknowledge her presence and credentials. There were times he even helped her, although never without failing to pass snide remarks. But she knew that those were just his way of keeping up his 'I-am-a-jerk' facade.
But who knew that it was all just an act. An act to make her see this mirage where she & him were in love and it was all a paradise.
The tears kept falling. She didn't even try to wipe them anymore. What was the use? Fresh tears would leak out anyway even if she dried them!
She had been up the entire night, constantly replaying his words in her mind.
"A nobody"..."A silly girl.."
She felt fatigued. Her face was a mess. Her head hurt and her eyes were droopy.
"What have I done? What was I thinking? He merely said two nice words and I assumed we had something going! I fell for him...For that jingoistic bas***d...Sanyukta, u are a fool...A fool who failed to see past his pretence..."
As these thoughts swirled in her mind, she felt dizzy. She felt alone...She felt fear...Fear of losing herself ...
"Sanyukta beta, zindagi mein kabhi bhi, koi bhi musibat aaye, toh yeh zarur yaad rakhna, upar wala humesha unhi ka sath deta hain jo sahi ho..."
She recalled her mother's words.
It gave her the impetus she needed. It made her determined.
"Randhir Shekhawat, I won't let u ruin me anymore. It's time for reality check."
And with that thought in her mind, Sanyukta slowly got up and walked out of the terrace and towards her hostel.
It was 5 AM.
~0~
He had called her for the 17th time that night.
Heck, he even tried to reach her phone at freaking 3AM.
His desparation got the better of him.
He was worried...worried that she was cross with him because he left her unannounced.
"Randhir bhai, Sanyukta toh party se achanak gayab ho gayi thi...Fir pta nhi kaha chali gayi...Arey aap tension mat lo...It's the last collaboration night. I guess she is with the students of the other colleges, enjoying maybe..", Jiggy had hold him when he had asked about Sanyukta's whereabouts.
But he that wasn't the case. Sanyukta barely knew anyone else from the other colleges besides Parth and Karan.
And Parth was at the party & Karan with him.
So where was Sanyukta?
He kept tossing and turning on his bed.
"Damn it Agarwal...why on Earth is that phone of urs switched off? I needed u tonight..." was his final thought as he drifted off to sleep.

The tech-fest was over and all the students of all other colleges had departed. Randhir saw Karan off, whose flight was early in the morning, but he was distracted all through. Karan noticed that and smirked mentally.
"Job well done' he thought as he waved goodbye to his friend.
Randhir then returned to class, their first class since the start of the fest. It was Vardhan sir's lecture. The moment he entered the class, he scanned the room for 'her'. She wasn't there.
The seat beside Kaustuki was empty. Majorly disappointed, Randhir went to take his customary seat beside Jiggy.
Minutes later Vardhan sir entered the class, an envelope in his hand.
"So, we are meeting in a formal class after almost 10 days. I have news for all u people. As u all might have heard, someone from this batch disgraced out institute and has been suspended for 3 weeks. Vidushi Kumar..."
A murmur erupted among the students at this news, but Vardhan silenced them and continued, "But the thing of importance is that..."
"May I come in sir?"
Randhir's eyes immediately went to the door. There stood Sanyukta, her face hard, her eyes emotionless.
"U are late", vardhan sir told simply, "Any special reason?"
"I am sorry sir. I was just seeing off a friend from RCE, Parth Kashyap..U know him I think..." her voice was devoid of emotion.
Randhir felt a blow in his stomache the moment she said this.
"So she was with parth the whole night? And all this time I thought...That explains why her cell was switched off..."
"I expect u to be punctual henceforth, Sanyukta. Take ur seat", replied Vardhan.
Sanyukta nodded and walked towards her seat without glancing at anyone.
Randhir frowned. She didn't even spare a look in his direction.
Vardhan sir meanwhile started speaking again saying, "So the thing of importance is that this fest was a preliminery trial for bigger things to come. So i don't want anyone to get complacent. FITE holds the numero uno position and I want that upholded at all times. But first, let us show our appreciation for the two people who made us proud with there innovativeness and brilliance...Randhir & Sanyukta...I am proud of u both...Well done."
As he said this, the entire class cheered for them.
Randhir looked at Sanyukta proudly, but she was staring straight ahead.
"Thank u sir" she said and sat down.
He was baffled.
"What the hell is her problem?" he wondered.
Soon after, vardhan sir left the class.
One by one the students followed him out. Jiggy asked Kaustuki & Sanyukta to join him in the canteen. Sanyukta declined.
Randhir watched as she packed her bag and started to leave.
He followed her. And when they were both in the corridor, which was thankfully empty, he pulled her aside and into a nearby room.
"What the..." she said before he covered her mouth with his hands.
She struggled in his grip, but couldn't free herself.
"Wait, Agarwal, just stop trying to get away..."
"mmphhh" she kept struggling.
Ultimately, he pinned her to the wall and brought his face close to hers.
Brown eyes met the grey ones, as his gaze pierced her.
"Sanyukta, I am sorry about yesterday", he said, still covering her mouth, "Actually Karan had called. I met him. And..we...we have sorted it out...Just like u asked me to.."
And as he said this, he slowly released her and stepped back.
She shoved his hand away. He was taken aback.
"Oh really? So i take all is now well in Randhir-land?"
Her words stung.
"What do u mean? U are acting odd Agarwal, what's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong Randhir. I am merely pointing out the very interesting scenario in ur life. U have ur 'BEST' friend back. It's all sunshine and rainbows now. But guess what? I DON'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT UR STUPID LIFE ANYMORE..."
Randhir couldn't believe what was happening.
"Sanyukta, what...What are u saying? All this time I have been searching for u because i wanted to tell u this...and here u are behaving like..."
"Like what randhir? Say it..."
"Like I am at fault or something...Will u please tell me what's going on?"
"Oh sure. Let me enlighten u. U wanted to know why i arranged the party for u right? Well here is ur answer. I did it for U..." she spat bitterly.
Randhir stood shocked. Her words made his heart soar. She had done it for him. But wait, then why was she looking murderous?
"I saw u up on the terrace looking lonely and hurt...and i wanted to make u smile...I wanted to let ...to let u feel that...i am ur frien-d..."
Tears. They always came at the wrong place, at the wrong time.
Randhir took a step forward. "Sanyukta, why are u cry-.."
"DON'T", she said coldly, moving backwards, "Don't...I am a nobody right? A silly girl? Well Shekhawat, this silly girl is done with her compassion. I am done trying to be friend. Clearly u don't care..."
"Sanyukta, I never said.."
"YOU DON'T GET TO MAKE EXCUSES RANDHIR..."
Randhir flinched. He stared at her horrified.
She looked hysterical.
By now their spat had attracted a crowd. Kaustuki & jiggy were amongst them, watching in horror at the scene that was unfolding before them.
Randhir tried to calm her down again.
"Sanyukta please, u are getting this wrong..."
"Am I?? U didn't say those words?? U DIDN'T SAY THO-..."
The rest of her screaming was muffled by Randhir who had once again covered her mouth and dragged her away from the onlookers.
"Keep it low, damn it...What the hell is wrong with u?" he spoke venomously, his patience fast depleting and anger replacing his concern.
But what she replied, left him numb.
"The only thing that is wrong with me is that I am in love with u...And u don't give a damn..." she said, before fleeing the room.
