MEMPHIS
PART 9
The worst way to miss someone is when they are right beside you and yet you know you can never have them - unknown
SANYUKTA'S P.O.V
"Why were you smiling?" I asked Parth, as we left the class, together. Randhir already flew away, as soon as the class ended. Kaustuki was busy with Jiggy, so we had to walk together.
"Uh, that? Actually, you know, I've seen you two, working together, during dream team project. You complete each other. You are the "idea"; he is the "technology". So I'm just happy that you, two, are friends now. Will help us in the competition, won't it?" He smiled at me. I nodded, in agreement.
I bid him goodbye and joined Kaustuki, going to our hostel.
RANDHIR'S P.O.V.
"So what did she say?" I asked Parth, as he entered our room. I had seen Sanyukta approaching him while I left. For the first time, it didn't affect me. Parth has been helping me and I know he doesn't feel for Sanyukta the way I had thought.
"Uh, actually, she'd caught me smiling at your friendship" he smiled, sheepishly.
"Oh, she said nothing about me?" okay, I admit, I was curious. I wanted to know what really was going inside her mind, what she really thought of me. It was frustrating to know nothing about her thoughts and feelings.
"No, I'm not her best friend Randhir. She isn't going to share her feelings with me" he answered, as if reading my mind.
"I don't really care about her feelings, I just asked, just like that" I lied. He rolled his eyes.
"Anyways, what next?" he asked, changing the topic, to my relief.
"Next?"
"Yes, level 3: find out what are the reasons for Sanyukta's depression" he said, crossing his arms on his chest.
"Me" I answered, making him roll his eyes, again. It almost felt like he was a teacher and I was that kid who isn't able to solve the maths problem, even after the teacher had explained it to him zillion times.
"Well, I guess, we already have solved that "reason", Randhir. You're her friend, now, remember?"
"Yeah, right, but there must be many more reasons which we are unaware of. How will we know them?" I asked, my chin resting on my palm, mouth curved into a pout. Parth was sitting on my bed while I was sitting on the chair next to my study table, my elbow resting on the table.
"No idea" he said, defeated and lay on my bed, his palms behind his head while his legs hung out of the bed. I covered my face in my hands, cutting myself off from the world, thinking with all the concentration.
"Hey, maybe that doctor can help!" I jumped.
"Maybe" he agreed.

"May I come in?" I asked, after knocking the glass door twice.
"Medical Room" was written above the door, in red, on the dull sky blue wall. Parth was still in our room. His mom had called and since their talk was too long and, well, hurting; I decided I will deal with the doctor, myself.
"Yes, you may" came the reply, from the familiar female voice. I entered.
"Hi" I smiled at her, as I closed the door.
"Oh, it's the just a classmate'" she teased, with a calm, elderly smile "please have a seat"
I sat down. "Yeah, but I got a promotion. I'm now just a friend'" I joked, back. She chuckled.
She wasn't very old. She was just the age Virdhan sir must be. She always wore an understanding smile. You couldn't feel uncomfortable or low in front of her.
"Oh, that's an achievement. I've heard a lot about you two, after her fainting incident. Seems like you were enemies, hmm?"
"Ha-ha! Yeah, we do fight a lot. We are famous for that" I smiled, sheepishly.
"Yeah, I did hear about your fights from the librarian. Seems like library is your favourite place to fight. Ha-ha! Anyways, what brings you here?"
"Ma'am, remember, I'd promised that I'd make Sanyukta normal again?" she nodded, so I continued "I'm friends with her but I don't really know how to do it as I don't really know what are the things that are worrying her"
"Gain her trust, she'll tell you" she said matter-of-factly.
"I know, but that will take so much of time"
"There is no other way, Randhir" she said, slowly. I nodded.

PARTH'S P.O.V.
Randhir threw his bag on his bed as he entered the room. I could see the tense lines on his forehead, clearly. I switched off my I-pod and climbed out of my bed, and went to sit by his side on his bed. He looked at me. I raised my eyebrows, asking "what happened?" through my expression. He looked back, on the floor.
"Doc says, I got to gain her trust to know her problems"
"I can't help but agree" I said.
"But that will take forever" he complained "there has to be another way"
I was going to console him but stopped as I saw Jiggy entering the room, talking on the phone. I signalled Jiggy's presence to Randhir. He nodded.
"Kaustuki, I'm here, na. Why do you worry about that Yo-yo? Anyways, where are you? Canteen? Oh with Sanyukta?" he talked to the phone while Randhir rolled his eyes and left the room.

RANDHIR'S P.O.V.
"What kind of friends Jiggy and Kaustuki are? They spend all the time with her and know nothing about her depression!" I muttered angrily, leaving the room.
But I have a more important thing to do than cursing those good-for-nothing idiots. Just when I thought that I couldn't do anything, anymore, an idea struck me. Yes! Maybe, that'll help. There is no harm in trying, is there?
Goin' 2 her rum. Will search 4 sumthin that can help us. Go 2 d canteen and keep those 2 girls der till I text nxt
xx
I texted to Parth as I left our hostel, smirking.

I climbed the window of Sanyukta's and saw around to check if the room was empty and that no one had seen me climbing. When I was sure that no one was present, I hoped in. I kept my bag on her bed and started searching, her books, her table, her almirah, Kaustuki's almirah, her table, in short; the whole room.
A dairy caught my eye. Kept below her kurtis in the almirah, it was covered with purple cover. It seemed like a personal dairy. I know, it's basic manners, I shouldn't touch it. But it is the only thing which can help me. I grabbed the dairy and opened a random page.
I couldn't believe what I just read. Had I even read it right? That can't be true!
On the top of the page, in elegant handwriting, were written twelve words that made me stare at them, with open mouth.
What do you do when you fall in love with your enemy?

This part was purely dedicated to Burauni (Niki)! Girl, I just met you yesterday, but we talked so much!! We even used the posts as chat option, haha!! In this short spam, I never felt the usual awkwardness between two strangers who meet for the first time. Thank you for your comments!! Love you! ❤️ totally in a non-sexual way, though. 😛
