PART 8

They left the hospital and proceeded towards the parking lot. Sanyukta took baby steps as she was feeling weak. They sat in the car. Sanyukta was looking at Vardaan; she wanted to say something.

Vardaan: "Yes, Sanyukta??"

Sanyukta: "Huh...umm...I mean...Can I...umm...nothing?"

Vardaan: "Are you sure? Do u want something?"

Sanyukta: "Yes...Can you please do one last favour for me?"

Vardaan: "What??"

Sanyukta: "Can you please drop me to my home...in delhi...now!! I am really missing home??"

She longingly looked at Vardaan, making a cute puppy face. Vardaan had to fall for it.

Vardaan: "huh...OK. Let's go."

Sanyukta became very cheerful, she made an attempt to raise her hands, to say yesss' as a sign of victory, but she got obstructed again due to the pain. "Ouuchh...she winced." Vardaan smiled looking at her kiddish behavior. He put on his glares and started the car.

It was more than an hour since they were travelling. Sanyukta got bored. She saw some music CDs on the dashboard. She picked them one by one and started going through the song list. She was disappointed seeing all old 70s and 80s songs on the list. She switched on the FM radio. Some latest songs were being played. Some of her favourite songs were being played, like, Disco Deewane, and Honey singh songs as well. She increased the volume and started grooving her neck to the tunes and in no time she started singing the lyrics herself. Vardaan was looking at her as if she's an alien. She caught him looking at her.

Vardaan: "Can you please reduce the volume."

She immediately obliged.

Sanyukta: "Sir, which kind of music do you like? Umm...rock, disco types, rap??"

Vardaan: "Nope. I don't listen to any kind of music. If at all, I listen to old ghazals of Mukesh-Lata."

Now, it was Sanyukta's turn to look at him as if he's an alien.

Sanyukta: "Who is Mukesh-Lata? I mean, are they your friends?"

Vardaan dropped his jaw his lil'bit. "She doesn't even know Mukesh-Lata? Was she living under a rock?", he thought.

Vardaan: "Nope they're not my friends? Duet ghazals of Mukesh-Lata as in Lata Mangeshkar and Mukesh. Both of them are very famous singers of the 70s and 80s. Their ghazals are very good."

Sanyukta: "Oh...I didn't know that. I'll google about them. So you like such old songs? Nothing among the present genre?"

Vardaan: "Nope...these songs give me a headache. But ghazals soothes hearts."

For the first time, Sanyukta became aware of the generation gap between them.

It was 5 PM in the evening. Vardaan was hungry. He didn't even have lunch today. Here Sanyukta was tired of sitting at one place for such a long time. She wanted to stand up and stretch herself. She requested Vardaan to stop the car at some local dhaaba. They stopped at a dhaaba. Sanyukta came out of the car. They sat on the makeshift bed, that is available at all the dhaaba's made out of jute ropes and wooden sticks. People were staring at her coz of her dress. She became a lil conscious. Vardaan could notice this. The waiter got them the menu. Sanyukta took the menu book. She wanted to eat something good, after what she had eaten for lunch. She started going through the each item one by one.

Sanyukta: "hmm...ek paneer tikka aur do butter naan. Nahi, who cancel kijiye. Aap do aloo parathe le aaiye. Nahi nahi, who bhi cancel. Aap ek paav bhaaji le aaiye. Arey nahi..."

Vardaan: "Quick Sanyukta, We don't have the whole day. So much time to decide what to order?"

Sanyukta: "What do you mean? I am indecisive? I cannot take my own decisions. Of course, I can take. And I have decided that I will have one paav bhaaji. Aur haa bhaiyaji, butter bhar bhar ke lagaana. " She said looking at the waiter.

Vardaan: "Do methi ke parathe, aur haa ghee ya butter mat lagaye."

There was total silence between them. Sanyukta was eagerly waiting for the order to arrive. The weather was getting cold. Their order arrived. Sanyukta could smell the awesome paav bhaaji. She quickly started eating it. Vardaan saw her dish. It was full of unhealthy calories. "This girl follows a really unhealthy diet", he thought. Sanyukta took a morsel in her mouth and was happily munching when she caught Vardaan looking at her. She humbly smiled, as her mouth was stuffed with paav bhaaji. Her cheeks became even more chubby now. Vardaan smiled back, looking at her childishness. They finished eating, paid the bill and stood up to leave. Some guys were smoking in a corner, when they spotted Sanyukta. All of a sudden they came close to Vardaan-Sanyukta. Sanyukta got scared and hid behind Vardaan.

Boy 1: "Hey dude...wassup? Man...you've got one sexy girlfriend."

Vardaan glared at him in fury.

Boy 2: "Oh..accha.. She's not your girlfriend...I am sorry. It's too good then. Hey listen, after you are done, just send her to me. We can work on the commission as well."

Vardaan lost his cool now. He held the boy's neck and pressed it with full force. Sanyukta got scared looking at him. Vardaan hit one punch on his nose. The boy fell on the ground. People gathered on the spot. He held Sanyukta's wrist and took her with him with force. He opened the car door, slightly pushed her inside and closed the door. He came on the driving seat and started driving, without saying anything. Nobody spoke anything anything during the journey. After some time, Sanyukta slept resting her head on the window pane. Vardaan just could not help mesmerising about how beautiful she looked while sleeping. After about two hours, they finally reached Delhi. Vardaan had to wake up Sanyukta to know her address. She woke up and guided Vardaan through the lanes and the shortcuts. Finally, they reached her home. Vardaan stopped the car. After a few minutes of awkward silence,

Sanyukta: (Looking down) "Sir, I am really sorry. You had to take so much trouble because of me. Starting right from yesterday night, till tonight. I am sorry for just colliding with you in the college premises. And I am also sorry for putting you in lock up during our first meeting. I am sorry for causing so much trouble in your life. I am sorry for everything."

Vardaan was surprised hearing all this. He was somewhat sad hearing all this.

Vardaan: "Sanyukta,...It's all right."

He wanted to say so much more. But he could say only these four words. He saw Sanyukta getting out of the car, and moving towards her home. He watched her retreating figure.

Vardaan: (Thinking) "She's right. Before she came into my life, my life was serene and calm. But after I met her, it has become a roller coaster ride. But,...I kind of like it this way. What the hell am I thinking. I need to away from this girl."

He went to a motel to sleep for the night. He decided that from tomorrow, he'll be the same old Vardaan.
