Chapter 6

Manali.

"Amamma, you have a visitor.." said the nurse walking into her cabin.

The lady who looked no more than 40 years, looked up with a frown, "who would want to visit her so early in the morning?" the wall-clock showed it was 4.30am.

"who is it?" she asked wrapping the thick woolen shawl around her.

"I.. er.. That person didn't tell his name.. he kind of insisted on seeing you personally.." nurse fidgeted with her fingers. The Most important rule of Rehabilation centre was, No strangers allowed! Did she break the rule? But then the nurse couldn't have done anything, the man looked like he would eat her alive.

Sensing the slight fear that tickled the young nurse's face amamma sighed, seems like the weather was going to be worst, she thought warily.

"Alright. You go back to your work, I will check on him.. and listen, next time please ask the guards to take care of such matters okay.."

As amamma walked out of her cabin the nurse bit her tongue, the said guards were all drunk and strangely those guards never drank anything other than water or milk!

"I didn't expect to see you this soon!" Amamma said glaring at the man standing before her.

"You wouldn't if you had listened to me two years ago.." his tone was sharp like a knife. But that didn't make her flinch, she was used to worst!

"What do you want?" Amamma came straight to her point.

"Everyone calls you Amamma, but I won't do that mistake by giving you the place of a god-mother. I would rather address you by your name, Ms.Vidyarani Iyer."

This time, amamma flinched. It had been so long, so long since she heard her own name. from past ten years or odd, this place had turned her life into something between peace and war. And now after what seemed like ages, hearing her own name made her heart swell with disgust. She hated her name. she hated the life she had led once. In her past she had seen herself as doctor going against the rules just to save patients. She had been cursed, taunted saying she was a black hole for doctors clan. She always wondered, wasn't the first lesson thought to the doctors was to serve and save people? Then where the hell did money, status, rules come from? She never knew. That's why she left everything behind, came here started her own little home to serve the people who needed her. She was finally at peace, until..

"I see that you have done your research. But why are you here?" Amamma asked calmly. This certainly surprised the man standing before. He wasn't expecting her to ignore whatever he had found out about her. Sure, he knew she was clean. He knew she never did any mistake other than saving lives. but what he didn't know was how the hell was she involved in such a mess?

"I need information about a patient!" he replied.

"Not possible. Against the rules. That would be the end of our discussion, if you have anything to say you can come with an appointment and please next time don't get my guards drunk, I need them to protect this place from people like you, barging in without notice!" she spat and turned to go.

"Ms.Iyer! you and I very well know what we are dealing with. You can get into trouble." He called out.

She turned around rolling her eyes, "Trouble you say? haven't you done your research? I have seen worst!"

"this could be worse than that, trust me!" when amamma didn't seem to budge he replied "May be this would do?" he said swinging a file into her face.

She caught hold of it mid air recognizing it instantly, when she opened it, she blanched.

When the ray of light met his face, he was gone. Before leaving his last words hung in air as her ears finally heard what he said, "Tell her, not to lose it next time! Because next time, she wouldn't be alive to regret."

For some reason she felt a pang in her heart. She couldn't let anything happen to her baby, what if she didn't give birth to her? The two years that girl spent here, was enough to fill her womb with a daughter she never had!

Running back to her cabin she dialed a number.

F.I.T.E.

"Sanyu!! Your phone is ringing!!!" Kaustuki screamed from under blanket trying to shut her ears from the shrilled voice of that dammed phone. But sanyukta didn't seem to move an inch.

And the phone continued to ring.

Kaustuki got up exaggerated, and found that her room-mate wasn't in her room. 4.55am her watch read, kaustuki sighed as the phone stopped ringing. But now she was awake. She walked towards the balcony to find sanyukta seated in her yoga position, eyes closed and she was murmuring something.

"Sanyukta?" kaustuki called thrice but no reply. It was as though she had gone deaf to the world. Kaustuki shook her, bringing sanyukta back to her senses.

"What.the.. kaustuki?"

"What are you doing here? I didn't think you were yoga-girl" kaustuki commented.

Sanyukta shrugged "I am one!" saying so she folded the carpet and walked inside her room.

"how is your leg by the way?"

"I am fine.. but oh- your phone was ringing for a long time.." kaustuki said as she walked towards the washroom.

When kaustuki was out of sight sanyukta called back, "Amamma?"

"Finally! What have you gotten yourself into this time?" came amamma's yelling voice. Sanyukta shivered at the intensity of her voice. Something is wrong.

"I.. what? I don't know what are you talking about amamma.."

"Oh you very well know! Where is the file I gave you?"

Sanyukta stood unmoved for few seconds recalling the familiar black file she had kept it in her bag before she left. She sprinted to her cupboard pulling her bag out, file wasn't there.

"i.. I lost it?" she mumbled.

"oh yes you have! Stop by this weekend, i have something to talk about."

The line went dead and sanyukta sat there stunned.

She clearly remembered not losing it, or did anyone steal it? Or did she..

"First day of college! I am so excited!!" kaustuki chirped walking beside the sanyukta. Sanyukta looked dreamily at her classroom, "me too!!!"

"All the students please collect your manuals and notes and precede to Mechanical lab in second floor for your first practical class. You shall receive you time-table and syllabus with a small workshop on machines & circuits in the lab.

F.I.T.E Welcomes all freshers. Good Luck!"

The note was written in bold letter in the black board. Sanyukta beamed, "Lab hour! Wow this is awesome!!"

Along with other students both made their way towards the lab, but sanyukta stopped dead on her tracks as she found the familiar face on the corridors of ground floor. This couldn't be happening. No way. Her hands started to sweat as she went pale.

"Are you sure about this Ajay? Because I am really feeling awkward!!" Tara tugged him.

Ajay rolled his eyes, "we have been into most awkward situations, this is nothing, all we have to do is give a long speech and a small presentation.."

"yeah I know that, but engineering college? Seriously?" tara cursed him under her breath.

"I heard you calling me - asshole, you really don't have a small voice you know. Anyway, this is F.I.T.E. tara and trust me, the person we are hunting down is the former student of this college."

Tara stood there dumbfounded, You got to be kidding me!

On the other side of the second floor there was one more person who stood numb seeing the two officers walk inside the college. No freaking way! He murmured.

As he walked in the opposite direction he hit something very hard yet soft. Wait what?

Sanyukta who was standing rooted to her place fell on the ground with a thud and the person who sent her down straddled beside her; with a yelp sanyukta cursed him under her breath.

"What.The Hell??"

"You Again?" both said in unison.

"I cant believe it! You really don't have eyes do you?" he taunted her.

"ofcourse genius! I really don't have eyes at back of my head! But I can certainly see you have your good vision in front, couldn't you use it atleast?"

Sanyukta's come back only triggered his anger more.

"I really wouldn't find human-pillar standing on the corridors every day, now do we?" randhir glared at her.

Sanyukta rolled her eyes, no point in arguing with him! she thought. That's when she recalled why she stood there like a human-pillar as he said. Oh god! She had to run away, now.

"Sanyukta there you are! Come soon, classes are starting!!" kaustuki screamed standing infront the lab.

Sanyukta sighed. May be she couldn't.

It may be their mere fate that they were clubbed together as partners for their first lab ever. What a great way to start the a new life!

Randhir and Sanyukta who supposedly came late to lab, stood beside each other shooting daggers. They instantly knew, They loathed each other.

But both of their minds was busy calculating the footsteps of certain person, both their minds were also trying to process any information on why, the said person was in their college.
