They sat like two statues on the ground in two corner of the Arnav's hotel room leaning over the walls, looking at each other unblinkingly.
The room may seem silent for any passerby but it was the silence before the storm and if you look closely to the occupants of the room you might find their eyes were speaking volumes. They were loud and arguing. Fighting a battle of its kind.
The language of silence only for them to understand...
Arnav: Why Khushi?
Khushi: Hard to explain...
Arnav: Believe me I have all the time in the world. You can't imagine how I have waited for this explanation... try Khushi... try and make me understand... why you made us suffer... don't you trust me enough to tell me everything...
Khushi: I was scared Arnav...
Arnav: for what?
Khushi: of your denial... of your reaction... what if...
Khushi turned her face to a side closing her eyes and fresh tears made their way down and then it hit Arnav clear and hard.
In a one swift movement he was up and by her side dragging her on her feet harshly, but he couldn't help it...
She knew and that was the reason for her running away...
Shock and rage taking over his senses as he understood that his Nani and Mamaji had played on his weakness...
NO!
How could they?!
And how dare they blackmail her this way?
He shut his eyes as the knife of betrayal twisted in his heart in renewed vigor and the pain coursed through his body like fire.
Khushi understood that he had guessed and she took him in her embrace to absorb his pain as much she could...
"Khushi you could have tried?" She heard him whisper.
"Then what do you think I have been doing?" He heard her answer and came out of her arms. He stared at her face astonished and Khushi knew the time was here.
She wasn't afraid anymore. She had him where she wanted him, alone with her. Almost prepared to face the truth. If he couldn't take it all well then he had her all by himself, as his support and strength, to hold him together. She smiled.
She made him sit on the bed and started sitting beside him... "Arnav it's not the only file that you think your Mamaji had showed me that day..."
Arnav cut her mid sentence smiling wryly "I know now... He and Dadi had played on my weakness and they have succeeded to scare you enough to push you away from me."
"NO you have got it all wrong Arnav." Khushi said grimly making him look at her serious face and he waited for her to continue...
Khushi sat beside him taking his hand in hers, looking at his eyes she started talking "The other file contained your medical reports of long time back ... Arnav looked away knowing very well was there in the file but Khushi made him look at her and said, there was no way in the world that I would have left you seeing the file rather I wanted to stay by your side more than ever... Then what went wrong?' Khushi found him asking through his eyes and she answered, but it wasn't that easy because what I had to tell you made me fear that if it makes you again go into denial and if it will affect you in a worse way this time... she gulped... so we decided that let you find some of the truth by yourself..."
"We?" Arnav had to ask.
Khushi smiled, "Me and Mamaji."
Arnav stared at her astonished.
"Yes you might think him wrong but he was trying to help us. He couldn't help his sister so he tried to help her son the only way he could." Khushi stated.
Arnav face was picture of confusion.
Kushi eased his creased forehead with her thumb and started to speak again. She told the part of conversation where she was able to convince the old man that whatever happens she would not leave Arnav for anything. She would be his strength.
Khushi went through the pages carefully. Her eyes grew wider with the severity of the fact but she didn't lose her calm as she looked straight into the eyes of the man, who looked torn between the right and the wrong and also in the conflict between of his mind and heart.
"I already know about this", Khushi tried to sound confident though she felt anything but, after reading the reports.
"I assumed that." said Mamaji. He needed to probe. He needed to know the extent of her love for Arnav, "though I am sure you didn't quite understand the severity of the issue."
"I won't say I did completely but I didn't take it lightly too." She said the truth.
"Do you really think Arnav would be able to handle if you said him everything?" Mamaji asked seriously.
Khushi smiled as she said, "I do hope so and don't forget he will have my support; I won't let him drown to the darkness again."
He visibly relaxed. It was not her words but her confidence in herself and her love reflecting from her whole aura made him feel light.
Yes Arnav Singh Raizada was in denial after their parent's divorce. And when he finally accepted the fact he tried to commit suicide but was saved. It wasn't the end of the story. He was under psychiatric treatment for long before he could become normal again.
That phase of his life wasn't easy at all. He had suffered. He was hostile and self-destructive.
But when he understood what impact of his behavior and condition having on his family and especially on his mother and sister, he had tried to gather himself together and be normal.
But was he ever?
The insecurities had never left him.
The fear of losing his loved ones hadn't let him be carefree.
He had tried to protect his family like a shield over the years. He had done everything to keep them out of any harm. He had tried to keep them together, near to him always.
Wasn't it the reason of following Anjali here from UK?
He felt the pain rising again in the left side of his chest but before he could succumb into the pain he found a hand rubbing soothingly over the place and he sighed and heard her saying, "When he told me everything I tried to be strong but truth to be told I was afraid... Arnav looked at her helplessly, trying to convey without word that he wasn't that weak and she nodded... I will always be Arnav when it comes to you. I can take risk for you but not with you. So rather telling you face to face we made you find yourself."
Arnav sighed, yes he had found out many things. Like,
How his father not just cheated his mother but his Nanaji too.
How he had wronged Khushi's father.
He had found out about the whole new side of his Nani.
Another sigh escaped from his mouth.
Khushi kissed his cheek and for the first time a genuine smile appeared on his face after a long time and Khushi was mesmerized to see its beauty. So much so that she almost stopped breathing and couldn't help but kiss his full lips.
Arnav welcomed the kiss like a parched man in dessert and soon one kiss become several more until they stopped for breathing. Both smiling, for a moment forgetting the seriousness of the moment.
Khushi regained her composure back after few minutes when he heard him saying "Khushi I know what you did and why but you should know I am not that weak. I could have handled this much. You made ourselves suffer too much for too little. Don't you think so?"
It was time for Khushi to sigh. She looked deep in his eyes thinking how to say but she had to. She stood up and walked to the window overlooking the sea.
Waves falling hard on the shore one after the other. The wind blowing madly. The turmoil apt to represent the turmoil between them.
Wasn't Arnav meant Sea?
Then how can his life be peaceful and smooth?
And she had sailed in that sea knowingly and she cannot back off now. She didn't want to. She would have to face the storm headlong. Closing her eyes she tried to gather her thoughts and courage before she said "what you know is not all, Arnav."
The gravity in her voice made Arnav's head snapped up and made him look at her.
"You know only half the truth and I wanted you alone, just you and me when I say you the rest of the story and its time you know."
She looked straight into his eyes and he knew he was missing the most important part of the story till now.
"Arnav did it ever occurred to you who killed my father?"
"Who lodged the complaint against him after his death?"
"Why we left Lucknow and who helped us?"
Arnav slowly left his seat and stood facing her.
Her eyes said everything to him but he still wanted her to confirm and she answered her own question, "It was Avinash Malik who was behind the murder of my father."
"It was you Mamaji who lodge the complaint but it was your Nani whose idea it was."
"Your father's goon chased us away from Lucknow and it was your mother who helped us leave safely."
Khushi saw with eyes wide as Arnav slumped down on the floor his eyes still locked to her. She felt like running to him, hold him but her feet gave away and she stood numb where she was standing.
You have your father's eyes...
Her words came back to him like a bullet. So this was the reason of her distancing herself from him still she gave away to his persistence.
He was the son of her father's murderer...
He was the son of the man who killed her childhood.
He was the grandson of the person who destroyed a family, a family close to them.
He was the son of the mother who couldn't tell her children why they couldn't be proud of their father, because what a pathetic human being he was.
He couldn't help the feeling of self-loathing he felt at that moment and he knew he couldn't stand there before her any longer.
Her presence was making him aware that he was wrong to make her fall in love with him.
He was wrong to chain her with his love.
He was wrong to even keep her in his life.
His eyes...
It might have reminded her of his father many a times.
The rage and helplessness she would have felt together seeing him every time he couldn't imagine. It broke his heart.
She had to compromise with her memories when she had decided to love him back.
Did she still find the similarity in their eyes?
And if so then he was hurting her all along.
In a way he was some of the reason of her misery and he couldn't stand the realization and this time it was his time of running away and he just did that.
He just left like wind and Khushi only stared after him. It wouldn't help if she followed him. He needed to come to terms with the truths and she would go when he needed an anchor to hold on to and the pain gets the better of him.

Khushi entered the bar but was stopped by those bodyguards again but one look from her and they knew it's better to stay out of t e lovers' way and they stood aside giving her way to go in.
She saw him sitting on a stool and gulping one shot after the other. She shook her head and went to sit by him.
Arnav saw her but she did not look at him instead she ordered for a drink for her. He too sat quiet.
But after a while silence from her side was unbearable for him so he said what he was thinking for so long, "I am sorry Khushi. I shouldn't pursue you. I shouldn't force you to make you fall in love with me. I shouldn't be there in your life to remind you of your father's killer every moment. I am sorry."
Khushi's finger curled up against the glass of drink she had just ordered, fighting the urge to slap him hard.
She hissed "Don't you dare insult my love for you Arnav Singh Raizada. What do you think yourself? Bloody cupid? That you aimed your arrow and I fall in love with you? NO."
Arnav looked at her fiery stance when she grated, "I wanted this as much as you wanted."
"Yes I tied running away but fate brought us together and now I know I couldn't have settled for anything less than what we share with each other. It is precious and needs to be treasured and I am doing just that. So don't you dare think that you made me do anything? You can go to hell with your sorry."
"I am already in one", was Arnav's answer.
Khushi closed her eyes and calmed herself before she said; "If it is hell then I am here too. You are not burning alone."
"And Arnav", the call made him look at her face which had a serenity at that moment, "Heaven is not far away."
"How Khushi?"
Khushi didn't answer to his question rather she held her hand out for him to take.
He stared at her hand for little moment before taking it and let her once again take control of his life just like the other time.
Khushi smiled and lead him out of the bar, out of the Hotel and to the car park. She made him sit in his car and he didn't question once about where they were going.
He didn't know when the car stopped before a building. When he entered the lift, when they reached the 4th floor of the building and, he didn't know in whose flat she took him, he just only followed her, dragged by her.
Too tired and too devastated to think about anything else.
She took him to a room and helped him out of his jacket and shoes.
Then she made him lie down on the bed keeping his head on her lap. She ran his finger through his hair giving him the much needed tranquility and he finally felt relaxed somehow and she hummed...

Send a wish upon a star
Do the work and you'll go far
Send a wish upon a star
Make a map and there you are
Arnav smiled a far memory of her singing this song came back to him.
Send a hope upon a wave
A dying wish before the grave
Send a hope upon a wave
For all the souls you failed to save
He still had questions for her but right now her hand was creating magic in his hair, making him feel relaxed and sleepy...
And you stood tall, now you will fall
Don't break the spell of a life spent trying to do well
And you stood tall, now you will fall
Don't break the spell of a life spent trying to do well
And he fall asleep again in the laps of his guiding angel forgetting the world of pain. Khushi kept humming...
Send a question in the wind
It's hard to know where to begin
So send a question in the wind
And give an answer to a friend

Put in everything you ever took
Place your past into a book
Burn the pages, let them cook
And you stood tall, now you will fall
Don't break the spell of a life spent trying to do well
And you stood tall, now you will fall
Don't break the spell of a life spent trying to do well
