Part 32:
Both Kaira and Rey were equally excited for the dinner. At the dinner table Kriya started serving the food to everyone. She made all the dishes twice. One set containing garlic and the other without garlic. Everyone was impressed with Kriya's cooking skills.
"Mommy you are an amazing cook." Kaira said.
"Thank you sweety."
"Seriously Kriya, you are truly an all rounder." Ranvijay said.
"Thanks dad." Kriya replied whilst her eyes trailed to Rey waiting for to say something. But he doesn't. All he does is staring at her with a wide grin while stuffing a spoonful of rice in his mouth. This action of his confirmed her that he approved of her cooking.
Suddenly dadi bua starts coughing so badly that her face turns deep red. Everyone gets worried for her.
"Bua ji paani li jiye." Preeti says handing her a glass of water. Even after drinking a whole glass of water her choking doesn't stop. It becomes unable for her to breath.
"Is...isme...la...lahsoon(garlic) h..." Is all that she managed to utter! All the eyes shoot towards Kriya. "Kriya are you sure you didn't add garlic in bua ji's food?" Preeti asks.
"Yes mom. I was very cautious while preparing the dishes. I clearly remember avoiding garlic while making the dishes separately for dadi bua."
"Kriya you could've been a bit more alert." Rey says.
"But rey I didn't add the garlic." Rey takes a spoonful of food form dadi bua's place. After tasting it he almost yells at her. "Yeah Right, you were cautious?? Is this your carefulness?? If you didn't add the garlic then how come it is present in the food??"
Kriya was taken aback at this. She couldn't believe that rey was actually accusing her. "Sheela, take Kaira to her room and Sarita you go get bua dadi's medicine box immediately." Rey ordered the maids.
"And Kriya, you need to admit that you're fault." Rey said sternly. This was enough to raise her temper. "Mr.Reyaansh Singhnaiya, I've had enough of your accusations, but now no more. You cannot blame me without knowing the entire truth." Kriya said trying not to raise her voice.
"You mean to say that blaming you is pointless. Oh, I see! Maybe while you were cooking someone would have come and dropped the garlic in the food or maybe dadi bua herself did all this so that you could be guilty in front of everyone. Is that what you are trying to point at?" Rey said with heavy sarcasm dripping in his voice. Even though dadi bua was in a terrible state she managed to smirk at Kriya without anyone observing.
"The latter assumption might be true because you oh-so-loving dadi bua pratcially hates me for no reason and maybe she wanted to frame me guilty in front of you." Kriya replied eyeing dadi bua with utmost abhorrence.
Rey was about to reply to her but the maid interrupted handing him the medicine box. Rey immediately took out her anti-allergy pills and made dadi bua have them.
"What do you mean by that?" Rey asked closing the box.
"I'm telling the truth. Your loving dadi bua isn't as caring and loving ads you think. She's the most cunning person I've ever met."
"ENOUGH Kriya, not a word more against dadi bua." Rey yelled at her.
"Stop raising your voice. Even I can do that but I won't cause I pretty well remember that there's a small kid in this house whose probably worried on hearing her parents argue." Kriya replied referring to Kaira.
"What's your problem with bua dadi??" He asked.
"I have no problem. But surely this lady does. A month ago she put a condition in front of me that she'd accept me as your wife only if I succeed in giving positive news about a child in three months. And If I don't then she'd probably throw me out of this house by crook or crook. And it's only in front of that she acts sweet to me." Kriya completed letting out a perturbed sigh.
Rey was beyond shocked on hearing this. "Dadi bua is this true?" He asked her in complete disbelief.
"Ha Rey yeh sach hai." She replied calmly.
"But why?" He asked more like a whisper.
"Kyunki hum Payal ki jagah kisi aur ko nahi de sakte. Aap jaante hai Payal humari beti jaisi thi, bahut kareeb the hum uske. Aur achanak se kisi aur ko uski jagah leta huya dekh hume acha nahi laga. Aur vaise bhi Kriya mein Payal jaise ek bhi gun nahi hai jisse humare dil mein unke liye jagah bane."
It even more infuriated her when the old lady again compared her with Payal. It's as if she wants her to act like Payal which she cannot. "But dadi bua Kriya Payal nahi ban sakti. Aur isse aapko accept karna hi padega. And Payal ki jagah iss ghar mein, mere dil mein koi bhi nahi le sakta, Kriya bhi nahi."Rey explained her in a calming tone.
Somewhere it hurt Kriya when he said that no one cane Payal's place in his heart, not even her. It's not that that she wants to take over Payal place but instead she wanted to create herself a new place in his heart which now seems to be impossible. She quietly left the dining room and approached the garden.
