Part 11: The misunderstanding

It was still raining cats and dogs. Raghu was driving and thinking that what he was going to say to her. Whatever he was planning, he was quite sure that it was not going to work because that girl is damn unpredictable. She kissed his hand in front of everyone. She looked at his eyes as if she was watching him and now...she called him to enjoy rain. Rain?? SERIOUSLY??

God, you must be kidding me!! You know that I hate rain. I didn't know this girl even 3 days ago. I was composed and happy. My life was planned. But now, let alone planned, it has become so risky, unpredictable and most importantly messed up. And now, Raghuveer Singhaniya is going to enjoy rain with Antara Sharma in City hospital. GREAT!!

He reached at the hospital. He entered into the lift. He suddenly felt that his hands had become cold. His heart was beating so fast. He was afraid that the nurse in the lift would be able to listen to the sound of his heartbeat. It would be so embarrassing. At last the lift reached at 5^th floor. He took a deep breath and walked to room no-64.

When he reached at the door of the room, he saw Antara's father, Devendra Sharma.

Raghu: hello, uncle. How is she?

D.S: she was quite upset. She is facing a lot of trouble for not ...u know ...seeing. 2 steps jati hai to gir jati hai. For a person whose hobby was to watch every little details in nature, reading books and writing poems, most importantly Dancing- it is so hard to accept the fact that she is not gonna see any more.(and tears started to fall from his eyes)

Raghu: uncle, samhaliye apne aap ko. You have to be strong.

D.S: (wiped his tears) Pata hai?? Antara bohot upset thi subha se but tumhare sath baat karne ke baad se smile kar rahi hai. She is so happy that though she is blind, tum usse abhi bhi pyaar karte ho...sorry I mean sameer usse pyaar karta hai.

Raghu: OK. I am going to meet her. See you later Uncle.

D.S: Ok, beta.

Raghu took a deep breath and looked inside her room. Her head was turned toward the window. Her eyes were closed. Raghu realized that she was actually trying to listen to the sound of rain. Raghu didn't know the reason, but he felt a sudden pain in his chest after watching this scene. He didn't make a single sound but the moment he took a single step toward her, she opened her eyes and turned her face toward him. Then Raghu saw it...she was again doing it.

She looked straight in to his eyes.

For a moment Raghu became confused that may be she can see now. But suddenly-

A smile appeared at her face. And that smile killed him from inside. She was smiling for sameer and HE WAS NOT SAMEER.

Antara: At last!! Why are you so late??

Raghu: I said na?? there will be heavy traffic on road?? I was absolutely right. Erm...may I ask you a question??

Antara: Yup, why are you asking?? Shoot!!

Raghu: How did you know that I have come?? I didn't make a sound.

Antara smiled looking at him.

Raghu: What?? Why are you smiling??

Antara: Actually I was also thinking that.

Raghu: What do you mean by that??

Antara: It is all new to me. May be because I am blind now??

Raghu: Meaning??

Antara: It was not like this before, come on you know that!! You used to scare me so much. You used to hide behind my curtain and shouted BUHAHAH just after we finished watching a horror movie. You used to make me cry so much. But I never felt your presence before. Pata nahi kyu par pichle kuch dino se tum aas paas hote ho to pehle se samaj jati hu. Isn't it great???

The heart beat raised again. Raghu could not resist asking-

Pichle kuch dino se matlab??kab se??

Antara:When you saved me from that accident, wo rail line ke upar!! Tab se. Mujhe car se bahar nikalne ke samay main samaj gayi thi ke tum ho.Warna main car se bahar hi nahi aati. Maar jati.

Raghu: Don't say th...

Antara: When I regained my sense and I realized that I can't see any more...I became so much violent...I was so sad and restless but then...then I sensed that same thing again. I felt that you were close to me and I calmed myself down. Then you spoke and I was so happy that ...I ...I can't tell you that feeling. I felt as if I got my everything back...I got my life back. I fell asleep in peace. And a few moment ago, I felt that again and I knew that it would be no one but YOU.

Raghu couldn't think straight any more.

She feels my presence even without seeing me. She never felt this for Sameer. Everything is happening from the moment I entered in to her life and interacted with her directly. My Gosh...She doesn't even know that she is completely misunderstanding me with someone else. She loves Sameer so much that she didn't even think about any other options. She didn't have any doubt about the person for whom she feels it. She just assumed that it must be Sameer for whom she is feeling this mutual connection. She doesn't want to think about anyone else...but why am I upset on that?? I have to concentrate. BUT IT HURTS DAMN IT !! SHE IS SENSING ME. SHE IS SENSING RAGHUVEER SINGHANIYA!!AND THE HARD PART IS- SHE IS NEVER GOING TO KNOW THAT. EVEN IF SHE GETS TO KNOW EVER, SHE IS NEVER GOING TO LIKE THAT.

It killed him to do it but Raghu composed himself and said- So?? What's about rain?? What do you want me to do??

Antara: You know na, I just love Rain.I never leave a chance to soak in rain water. It gives me so much pleasure.

Raghu:But u will catch cold.

Antara:Why r u speaking like mom?? She also tells me the same line.

Raghu:Besides, your head wound is still raw. Ur bandage will b soaked. U have to recover, remember??

Antara became silent for long 2 minutes. She was again looking toward the window. She was no more smiling.

Raghu: What happened???

Antara: Baarish me bhigna to bas ek bahana hai. Mujhe baarish dekhna bohot pasand hai...I mean thi. I think mujhe accept kar leni hogi ke main kabhi dekh nahi sakti. Kash...main dekh pati ke asmaan kaisa lag raha hai?? Kash...main mehsoos kar pati ke hawa mujhe chuke kis taraf ja raha hai?? Baarish ke bunde bara hai ya chota?? Kash...apne mann ko baarish se bhiga sakti main!!!

There was so much pain in her face. She closed her eyes and a tear drop fell. And that done a wonder.

Raghu didn't plan for it. But the sentence almost escaped from his mouth.

Mere najar se baarish dekh na chahogi??

Part 12: Things can be changed

Raghu: Mere najar se barish dekhna chahogi??

At first Antara could not understand his words. She was confused. But soon that sweet smile again appeared on her face.

Antara: You are going to describe me everything, right??

This time Raghu was smiling.

Raghu: I am going to take you downstairs. There is a beautiful garden out there in front of the hospital and ...

Antara: Garden???Garden?? oh my god!! Definitely there will be flowers,right??

Raghu: We will see. But main tumhe baarish mein bhigne nahi dunga. I will describe everything to you whatever you want.

After that whatever happened he was quite unprepared. Antara took his right hand and kissed on it.

Antara: Thanks. I love u. I ...

Raghu:ok I have to take permission from the doctor to take you out of this room.

He gently got his hand back,stood up and was going to leave but suddenly Antara again pulled his hand.

Antara: Why did not you kiss me back on my hand ?? That is so rude!!

Raghu:We have got our whole life to do all this...mmm..things. But Baarish khatam ho gaya to?? The whole plan will fail na?? I will..erm...kiss... you... later. Now let me go. I have to convince your doctor.

Antara: ok. Jaldi aana.

She let go of his hand and smiled again. Raghu almost ran out of the room.

(self thought)Pata nahi kitne samay tak main usse handle kar paunga!!! Uski kasoor nahi hai ke she wants to come close. I mean she is sameer's would be wife. And I am supposed to behave like her would be husband. But I can't. I CAN'T TOUCH HER COZ I HAVE NO RIGHT. She is pure and I have to protect her purity. I have to be strong. I have to take control. All right, Raghu??? Got it??now go to the doctor.

After 15 minutes...inside the elevator:

Raghu was holding Antara by her shoulders. She was still unable to move by her own. But her being blind did not ruin her happiness of going outside of that boring hospital room.

Raghu was staring at her face. She was continuously smiling. Suddenly she looked directly into his eyes which nearly made him dead by shock. She said- Why are you staring at me like this??? Aas paas ke lok kya sochenge??

Raghu nearly skipped a heartbeat.

Raghu: How do u know...I mean who said that I am staring at you?? I am looking at ...at...

Antara: Bas...bas...jhoot kehne ki koi jaroorat nahi. I know you.

Raghu:(self thought) No u don't know me. U Don't know me at all. GOD DAMN IT!! She can sense my stare also. But how??

Antara: (whispered) Tell me about this lift.

Raghu: (whispered too) There is a lady standing just behind you. Her make up is soo over the top that any one can mistake her as a bride.

Antara: Accha. Aur koyi nahi hai lift mein??

Raghu: Haan hai na!! Ek baby girl hai. Bohot hi cute sa. Pink colour ki dress hai uski.

Antara: usske sath koi nahi hai??

Raghu: Yes. Usski mummy. She looks like Deepika Padukon. No one can tell that she is a mommy.

Antara: Don't look at her.

Raghu: kyu??

Antara: Just don't look at her.

Raghu : OMG. U r getting jealous kya?? Come on. She is married.

Antara: Whatever. Aur koyi nahi hai kya lift mein??

Raghu : lift man hai. You need his description too??

Antara : No. May be we have reached.

They both got out of the lift. Raghu made her sit on a sofa in the launge and sat beside her. There was a large glass door infront of them.This was the main entrance door. It was closed.

Raghu: A lot of people are in the launge. Bahar baarish ho rahi hai na, iss liye. Two people just reached the hospital and they are opening the door.

The moment the door was opened, a flow of cold breeze entered the launge and touched both of them.

Antara: Oh my god. Kitne thandi hawa hai! May be there are some rose and sunflower plants in the garden!!! Itni acchi khusbu aa rahi hai dekho!! Kitna khubsurat najara hoga garden ka!! Hai na??

Though she was smiling but there was a sadness in her voice. She used to soak in the rain. Just hearing a description of her surrounding and listening to the sound of rain is surely not gonna satisfy her. If she was not blind now, she would definitely have done a lot of things. But her being blind is NOT her fault. She has every right to enjoy rain.

This thought made him take the risk.

Raghu: Tumhe garden jana hai??

Antara: This is not possible. Mere bandage bhig jayega.

Raghu:There is a small roof portion in the middle of the garden.

Antara: Waha jate jate hum bhig jayenge.

Raghu: Umbrella ka naam suna hai??

Antara: Hai rabba. Yeh to maine socha hi nahi. Sach me tum mujhe waha leke jaoge?? kitna maja aayega.wowww

Raghu went to the reception and asked for a ward boy. A ward boy came. He gave him some money. Within 5 minutes the ward boy returned with 2 umbrellas.

Antara: ok. ready??

Raghu: Ready.

They stepped out of the door.

Raghu: The sky is completely black. And...

A strong and cold flow of breeze nearly took away Raghu's umbrella. He hold that tightly in his hand.

Raghu: The breeze is a little stormy. Hold your umbrella tightly. There is a driveway in front of you. Walk carefully. Hold my hand. Road is very slippery.

Antara:(smiled) ok baba. I am not a child. Waise...

Raghu: Waise kya??

Antara :(smiled shyly) nahi kuch nahi.

Raghu: Bolo na.

Antara :ok. Mere taraf mat dekho. Kahi aur taraf dekho. Tab hi bataungi.

Raghu : (staring at her face) ok.

Antara : No cheating plz.

Raghu :ok. (staring dusri taraf) now tell me.

Antara: Tum bohot caring papa banoge. Ab mujhe iss bareme koyi sawal na karna.

Raghu:(feeling very strange) Accha hum garden mein almost pohoch gaye hai. Oh my god. U r right. There are a lot of rose and sunflower plants.

Antara: Dekha?? Par baarish ka jhoka ab kyu nahi mil raha hai?? Baarish ruk gayi kya??

Raghu: Arre nahi. Barish abhi bhi full on chalu hai tumhe impressed karne ke liye.

Antara:(smiled shyly again)

Raghu: Phir se kya hua??

Antara: Baarish se kahi jyada to tum mujhe impress kar rahe ho. Ajse pehle tumko hamesha majak ki mood mein dekha hai. Itna serious,responsible,caring kabhi nahi dekha. Accha lag raha hai. Pehle se jyada.

Raghu: life mein kabhi na kabhi serious to hona hi parta hai. Waise hum roof portion pe aa chuke hai. Tum aapni umbrella hata sakti ho. Yaha ek bench hai. Tum batho yaha pe. The entire garden is surrounded by trees. And all of them r looking so green.

Antara: Baarish ne sari dirt hata di hai leaves ke upar se. Iss liye itna green lag rahi hai.

Raghu: Grasses are green also. Do u want to touch flower? I can get one for you.

Antara: no. no don't do that. They have life. Don't separate an innocent flower from her mother just coz I want to take her scent.

Raghu: (silently watching her and thinking) look at this girl. Men kill men without thinking a single bit of humanity and this girl is thinking about a flower's life. This is so unfair. How can God be so cruel to her??

Antara: Don't stare at me like that.

Raghu: sorry. Ok you want to feel raindrops with your hands??

Antara: Yes!! Kabse yahi karna chah rahi thi!!

Raghu took her near the stair of the roof portion and held her hand in the rain. She was so happy. She was waving her hand in the rain. Suddenly she splashed some water to Raghu.

Raghu: what are you doing??

Antara : Yeh punishment hai tumhara.

Raghu: What did I do??

Antara: You still haven't kissed my hands. Yeh kya baat huyi?? Ladki pehle tumko kiss kare aur tum kuch bhi na karo?? Aisa hota hai kya?? Iss mein ladki ki insult hoti hai. Samjhe??

Raghu: lo karlo baat!! Main inhe khush karne par tula hua hu, aur yeh mujhe saaza de rahi hai. Kya jamana aa gaya hai. Kisiki acchai ka koi kadar hi nahi hai.

Antara: bas... aur natak mat karo. Main janti hu tum mujhe sata rahe ho. Tumhe pehli baar kiss kiya hai. Issi liye itna devar dikha rahe ho na??

Pehli baar??PEHLI BAAR?? Par ye kaise??These two are boy friend-girl friend since many monthes right??Then why??Iss ka matlab, these two are not THAT intimate as I was thinking. Sayad dono bohot acche dost the. Phir dono ko laga ke ek sath zindegi bitayenge. Intimacy bas hug karna ya haat pakarna tak hi thi, iss se aage jane se pehle hi shaadi tyar ho gayi and then this accident. Accha hai. Par mein itna kyu khush ho raha hu???

Antara: Pehle to bohot shaitani karte the. Hamesha (looked down shyly) wo...wo... sari baate karte the. Mere karib aana chah te the. Par mein nahi aane deti thi. Kehti thi ke shaadi ke baad. Aur ab mein khud se humari duriyaa mita rahi hu, to tum mujhse bhag rahe ho?? Tum mujh par gussa ho kya??

Raghu:(thinking vigorously) what I should say now??

Antara: Itna kya soch rahe ho?

Raghu : Gussa to main bohot hu. Par apne aap se. Maine tumhe yaha le aaya barish dikhane ke liye aur abhi bhi tumhe puri tarha se satisfied nahi kar saka.

Antara: who told u that I am not satisfied?? I am very happy.

Raghu: no. You are not.

He stepped forward and held her shoulders.

Raghu: If you didn't have any bandage in your head today, you would have soaked yourself in rain, right?? But I don't have any bandage in my head!! To phir mere bhigne mein kya problem??

Antara :Tum mere taraf se bhigne wale ho?? Sach mein??

Raghu: Maine kaha tha na-Tum mere najar se barish dekhogi'. To bhigna to parega. Jo tum karti, wo sab aj mujhe karna parega.

He stepped out of the roof portion. The raindrops touched his body after almost 22 years. A lot of sad memories woke up in his mind but he repressed all of them.

Raghu: You know rain drops are very cold. And big drops are falling. I am already fully soaked and it is not even 30 seconds till I am standing in rain.

Antara: Bas...bohot ho gaya. Tum aa jao. Aur bhigne ki jaroorat nahi.Thand lag jayegi.

Raghu: lo karlo baat!! Ab tum aunty ki tarha baat kyu kar rahi ho??

Antara: aa jao na.

Raghu returned to her.

Raghu: I tell u, agar tum mera jaga hoti to...wait ARE U CRYING??

Antara: (trying to hide her tears and looking other way)

Raghu: What happened?? Mujhse koi bhul hui kya?? I wanted to see you happy. For that reason I was doing all these. I m so sorry. Maine tumhe rula diya.

Antara: (silently looking at him)

Raghu: Sach mein mujhe nahi pata ke tum kyu ro rahi ho. Bolo na.

Antara:You have been always my best friend.You used to be funny. But today I met totally a different person who is so intense. I always thought of a prince since my childhood who will be this intense and told you a lot of time about that. But you always laughed at me and said- This kind of man is only possible in stories and movies'. But today YOU CHANGED URSELF just for making me happy. U became my dream prince. U fulfilled every wish I uttered this morning. And silly me!!! When I realized that I have become blind, I thought u would leave me. I am so sorry. Ek pal ke liye hi sahi, but I had doubt about you in my mind. You are perfect. And I love you.

She touched his cheek. Raghu tried to avoid that but she had so much love in her ...in her big hazel eyes. Yes her eyes are hazel. For the 1^st time he was watching her this close. She is so beautiful.

Her hands moved a little on his cheeks and it gave him a strange sensation. He closed his eyes and he felt that her hand reached at the corner of his lips. That's it!! He has to take control now.

Raghu: Antara. Koi aa raha hai yaha.

Antara:(took her hands back and looked down)

Her face was saying that she was feeling very shy.

Antara:(self thought) Hai rabba. Yeh kya kardi maine!! Ab wo mere kitna majak urayenge. Unka lips ko chuna nahi chahiye tha. Mere bareme kya sochenge wo. Ke main kitna desperate hu?? Chi chi. Ab main unke sath kaise baat karungi.

Raghu:Baarish ruk gayi hai. Chale???

Antara: ok.(thinking)Aare!! kuch bhi nahi kaha?? Mann hi mann mein mujhe lekar hass rahe honge.

But she doesn't know that what storm was going on inside Raghuveer Singhaniya's head for totally different reason.
